agreeing with most of this, personal biggest beefs are the vertical spacing, fixed width, last (own post) page upon thread open and the background colour (the one in the reply box is a LOT better in terms of contrast!).
Something I haven't seen mentioned yet are the tooltips that pop up on a board index, am I the only one who is irritated to no end by those? They steal my clicks!
I do like the new larger pictures though, and the cleaner look. I'd just wish the latter did not come with a sauce of unnecessary vertical spacing and fat frame top bars. Oh and I love the quick reply, long-overdue that one.
Could not care less about like buttons or spacebook integration, but those are personal preferences, not so much efficiency-breaking. edit: come to think of it, I do dread the Like-whoring that is bound to be incoming.... |

How would you feel if they shut down tranquility and told everyone to go use SiSi until Incarna is released?
Why does a forum need big avatars? Who gives a rats ass what the person posting looks like? I use a forum for information etc. You can easily make an excellent forum without the need for all the glitzy crap. Content is waaaaaaaay more important than seeing what shade of eyeliner Milla is wearing. |

I'm not saying there aren't legit issues that need to be discussed and fixed. I'm only suggesting that maybe there's a more civil way to go about dialogging with CCP on these kinds of things. Raging isn't it. haha Well raging troll posts on EVE forums is a time-honoured tradition, and I'd feel dirty if my first post wasn't one

Content is indeed more important....but if you can have good looks and stellar content, why not? I for one support the awesome looking avatars pics on the new forums. |

I feel ya...sometimes a good rage is called for, but even rages can be done in civil ways. Don't attack the person, attack the idea (no "F you CCP! You suck big fat monkey balls!"). In fact, the raging on Eve-O forums sometimes gives me the most gut busting laughs of my day.

Agreed the avatars look good, but they are too big and its detrimental to the content imo. Just look how much page space a 1 line post takes, its stupid. |

So, instead of displeasing this or that perspective, why can't they stick to usability standards and enable the user to excercise control by means of a setting in a profile. Not exactly rocket science.

I think that the like thing isn't so you can say "I like this person...I want to snuggle up next to them in my hangar"...it's a way of saying "I like this post/support this post".

Personally, I've simply applied the forum-fixing CSS and the link-fixing javascript I got ready for the test forums, and then blocked googleapis (most notably jquery-ui, which is the culprit of all the linking hideousness, and the rest of them are a main cause of the slowdown in loading the forums now suffer).
GǪand now it's actually a somewhat useful place to be. Of course, without being able to rearrange the code, the CSS can only do so much GÇö some stuff is simply beyond fixing from client customization, and other will simply become incurably bugged, but that's still hellalot better than what the forums themselves currently offer. |

I especially dislike the fact that the search function excludes the old forums. So you now have an advanced search option which is completely useless - or, you have very interesting stuff (especially feature/ideas and CSM section) on the old forums which are cut off and dead.
Bravo... not.
I don't need to mention the complete fail design, the forums are full of it already. |

Clicking a topic sends you to the last page of replies. How on earth are we to know what the actual subject of the forum entry is without scrolling back to page 1?
Edit: found post 29 after scrolling back to page 1 and working my way down. See what this crap does? Double posts ftl |

Maybe it's just me who's stupid and don't understand how to open the first page of a thread, does someone know if there is a setting or something I could change to open the first page by default instead? And while on the subject of settings I'd like to be able to disable the warnings about external pages.
If it could be smart and only go to the most recent post if you've already viewed the thread it would be ok. Why would anyone want to skip straight to the end of a new thread? |

Akita T wrote: Problem 4 : Readability sucks.
On top of the fact that you're eating from the both vertical and horizontal display areas, SOMEHOW you managed to make the actual text EVEN LESS READABLE than it was on the old forums. I can't put a finger on it and say it's the font type or size or colours chosen for text and background, or maybe the weird contrast between the huge portrait plus large text beside it and the tiny text for the actual posts... but fact remains, IT IS HARDER TO READ. Fix : look at the old forum, copy the style as it was there. It's THAT simple.
The white is too bright. It's a bit like having someone poke your eyes with needles.

Actually, "raging" is one of the methods with the best track record in interactions with CCP. Especially large-scale, extremely loud raging leads to results faster and more often than ANY OTHER method. Sure, it helps when you ALSO have a cogent point, but that alone seldom yields results, and when it does, it takes ages.

CCP, I understand you are proud of your work on the new Character Creator. Really, I do. It's a great piece of work, highly realistic, etc. etc.
However,
There is no need to devote 2x2 inches of my screen to each portrait. It is an unnecessary waste of forum space. I don't come to look at all the ****** (minus a select few) "I put five minutes into my character" clones. I come to read words.
Why is there so much wasted space? I don't want the Incursion background, it's silly and pointless and there is unused grey everywhere. Wasn't this one of the major complaints during the beta period?
It doesen't look good. Period. |
