What a fabulous topic! You've dropped a statement which will no doubt have unimaginable repercussions on the way everyone looks at EVE and life and the universe and everything! Not only that, but you've made your point with an absolutely overwhelmingly convincing argumentative discourse which redefines the way everyone in the world should try to spark debate!
Here's to you, o prince of eloquence!

True - there will always be a need for a HAC. However, the new BC's have reduced the demand a bit, since people have new options to fly. Not everyone has 200-300mil to buy and fully fit a hac, but they can fly and fit a BC in under a hundred mil without any problems, probebly half that if they use t1 gear.
A BC + T1 gear is only really a 10mil loss if it dies due to insurance. A HAC on the other hand.... :)
A lot of people are now understanding that BClvl4 is easier than HAC lvl4, so this increases demand of the new BC's.

yeah hacs are useless now because the hurricane does just what the vagabond does right?
and the drake is just as good as a sniping eagle
hacs are different in many ways and their agility and speed over bc's will always make them a heavily used ship for pvp.

If you're in a gang of say... 6 people, I don't see why you'd bring a HAC over a BC. Your tank will matter only if you're primary, and one of the BSes or utility ships will going to be primaried over you anyway. With the BC, you'll be doing more damage to them, and at a lot less risk.

Put it this way I much more prefer having the choice out of the two then only having one option! I love the new BCs as it means more players can join in on larger engagements, yet I love the HACs as they are something to be feared generally as most often the pilot will no doubt be a good one.
There are lots of reasons they are good other than those above, they can't be put under the same branding, gotta love them each on there own.

Higher resists and lower sig, especailly the sig radius, makes sure that i take less damage, surely i will do less damage, but lets say the zealot vs. harbringer, the zealot has more range and speed too.

Fly HAC if A- You are very rich or very experienced that you pvp in them without fear of losing it. B- You finally gathered enough money and now buys an HAC to do the same thing you used to do with other ships in empire -->> no fear of losing them -->> dont care about the cost. C- You are BoB and you get free HACs.
So for those who keeps the HAC demands up because they've been losing them, they proberbly wouldn't want to swtich to BC Those who uses HAC in empire would proberbly buy 1 HAC every year, so even if they switch to BCs it wouldn't cost the producers much. As for BoB, free HACs, who cares.

Btw, besides that (which I agree with anyway) you have NO IDEA what kind of a godsend those BC were for us <10m sp people.
It's like finally being included with the cool bois, whereas previously, only option was a subpar t1 BS, or a Cyclone (bleh). Now, you get on a fancy t2 Hurricane and kick ass left and right with the best of them :D It really made a difference

Agreed. If isk is no issue, then fully fitted t2 hacs, which are more agile than BC's and have other... features are the way forward. However, not all PvPers can afford HAC's, and I dont see the value of a HAC without t2 fittings, which further increases its cost.
I myself have nothing against those who fly HAC's, heck, I even faction fit my Recon ships for pvp to get the edge over t2 pilots. The bottom line is Value. We know the value in getting the extra 10% out of a ship, and we may be happy to pay a disproportionate fortune to do so.
But Joe public may not have the cashflow to finance a 300mil loss for a HAC + full t2 fitting, and these new BC's mean they can at least take something to battle and not get their asses handed to them. In the end, I guess it means more targets for all. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

All depends which HAC you're talking about now doesn't it?
I doubt a Zealots extra few m/s could make up for the 50% more firepower and dronebay of an Absolution, or the cost reduction of a Harbringer.
Vagabond on the other hand is unique in its role as heavy tackler and no BC can make up for it.. As are the Ishtar, and Cerberus. Seems to me like certain HACs retain their value while others are hopelessly outclassed.

Why use a tier 2 BC if you can just ad 10 mill and use a tier 1 bs???? but HACs tend to be more fun and they ad a scarefactor into small gang warfare. But as ppl have said, tier 2 BC gives the little man a chance.

Mighty Baz I have a question for you. Have you ever flown one of the new bc's or even the famed HAC your talking about as dead?
Last I have seen "yesterday" then Hac's are so dang kick ass its scary.
Granted the new bc's (the myrmidon to be exact) can give Some hac's a run for their money. But this is only with a foolesh pilot. I fly the myrmidon cause I love good drones and ship graters (blasters). I have given a vaga quite a scare took him to structure before he somehow got away bummer for me.
While the idea that I was able to take a vaga into structure makes your idea of hac's being dead a feasable assumption. its not. Don't assume this as the pilot was quite an idiot. not sure wether he goes afk after engaging or what cause i was able to turn on my ab and just get to web range. sadly vaga's are fast enough that he could get away even with my webber.
Sinse then I have added a second web in hope that he comes back mindless again
But hacs are rly fking good I was just ready to fight anything that will let me get close. I engage geddons with this thing too all i have to do is get to 10km and its dead. But if you think A hac cannot do this as well your nuts, hac's damage is much better than my myrmidon. I just like 100% insurance especially with my current warring self with the BoBits from hell who are very good and do not like solo fights >.<

HAC vs BC is an endless debate and it all depends on what you intend to do. the HAC is probally one of the best all out combat ships in game but it is a very single minded roll. the Battlecruiser brings a highly adaptable frame to the battlefield for a low price and is fully insured.

A bigger ship gives a smaller ship problems? Oh no! The new BC have good damage, but if you're facing a BS there's no doubt in my mind as to which ship i'd prefer, shooting at 260m signature isn't exactly hard in a BS, and T1 resistances isn't impressive.
I run level 3's as easily in my AF as in my BC due to the signature and high resists, this is the same deal.

All HACs worth time since HAC lvl4 is a prequesite for CommandShips which are way better in any ways. New BCs are pretty good in gang fight, but they still can't compare to HACs for soloing lvl4 agents. Yes, Drake can get pretty good resistances, but having twice larger signature than Cerberus makes it suffer a lot from BSs.

Aren't there other ships than BCs? Does everyone mine and haul in the new BCs? Cause you make it sound like they are the only targets around. I mean, if the only thing there was to shoot at was BCs, and BC > HAC always, then yeah of course HACs are useless. So is that the case?
Would a BS setup to kill a cruiser give a HAC a run for it's money? Cause I always thought that's what a BC was supposed to emulate.

Some HACs are now useless yes but those with a niche role will never stop being popular. Ishtar, Cerberus and Vagabond are the 3 non-useless HACs because they all do things no BC or other cruiser can do.
Zealot is gimp because Absolution makes it so utterly obsolete while the T1 Harbringer does the same job for less ISK
Sacriledge is a PvE complex tanker that sort of doubles as a rather expensive tackler in PVP.
Deimos is a terrible ship because it can't fit a plate, its even worse now than it was pre-Rev.
Eagle and Muninn are still decent for frig popping but small/medium turret sniping was never that popular.
So out of 8 HACs, 3 remain very good and 3 remain decent.. if you can call the Sacriledge decent.

That is a great point. Are the new BC nice? Yes Can a new BC PWN a HAC?..No What is the point of HACs?..let see... HAC are good 4 3/10 farming Wolf packs and PVP So no HACs will never die And Yes they cost way way way too much HAC's cost way more than a Commandship. But a Command ship will PWN a HAC and his buddy.

none of the new BC can replace the eagle or Cerberus Range of fire, neither the Vagabond's high speed, and the munin's erm, nm. harbinger is a big cheap zealot in the other hand. sacrilege blaa blaa blaa poing. ishtar is sexier, nuff said. deimos will be preferable to those who dint do drones.
also don't forget HACS can use T2 rigs, tier 2 bc can't

Originally by: PeoplePerson Some HACs are now useless yes but those with a niche role will never stop being popular.
The Absolution and the Harbinger have no optimal bonus, so they cannot make the Zealot obsolete. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

I dont agree with you...if you believe that HAC has any chanace to beat drake or myrmidon I suggest to beat them by your favorite vaga, ishtar or cerberus. Good luck !!!

any vaga pilot that loses to a myrmidon is a noob vaga pilot. it has around a 12km nos range and the vaga goes faster. most of them carry heavy drones and even if they have mediums they still probably get outrun by the vaga and blasters aint hitting it for **** so u work out the outcome of that fight?

Not if you want to force your target to downsize ammo by orbiting out of web range, which you can do with the range bonus.
The Zealot has 7 lows and a 215 base speed, it isnt a vagabond, but it isnt a slug like the abso and the harbinger. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

There's still no BC that can do what the vaga can do ;)
That said, i wouldn't even try to engage any of the new tier2 battlecruisers with my vaga, if i knew that they are pvp fitted... either that, or i'd orbit them at 22km+ :P

teir2 BC FTW, down to the hacs.
another good thing about the teir 2 BC is that if you got BC lv 5 you can use all the BC at lv 5 whlist with HACS, you need cruiser V for all the races.
being able to use all races BC in eve very well over using 1 type of race hac is also a added benifit

i am a skilled HAC pilot, that makes my HAC tough. Could i beat a new Tier 2 BC - Yes. i beat a raven a wk ago in my ishtar.
Its all about the PILOT!
if i spec'd in a new BC then am sure i would pwn a HAC.
yes the new BC are good but dont underestimate a HAC. most HAC pilots are skilled and know what they are doing.
Jeeez! Its more about the pilot, less about the ship.
Bottom line - a good skilled PvP pilot will take a average skilled pilot, iregardless of BC or HAC.

If you take the price of a vagabond.. buy 4 drakes.. now put a single vagabond a gainst 4 drakes and see who wins? No doubts on thta. 1v1 is not the only thing in game. For solo HAC are great, but for a cost bennefit view the BC rule. Even on tier 1. get 10 Cyclone and put against 1 vaga.. lol If brute force doesn't solve your problem.. then you are not using enough!! |

What realy makes a HAC effective is the fact that when you see one you can expect a highly skill pionted player with T2/faction gear and implants.
Teir 2 BCs on the other hand maybe piloted by a 2mill sp player useing t1/named with little in the way of pvp experiance.
The question we need to ask is what happens when the high skill pointed HAC pilots plug there t2 gear into a BC and can pvp alot more often in a almost equaly effective ship at a fraction of the cost, you see what you see now lots of BCs in low sec looking for a fight.
The BC changes were a mastersroke and HAC prices have all ready started to plummet the only thing that will change once they get closer to there production cost is a slow migration back into HAC's.
The fact a relitively young corp can field alot of cheap effective ships(that they feel can compete with groups of hacs) will bring newer players into pvp and thats good for every one.
So while i cant agree that the HAC is dead there currant profit margin is.
Why spend 400 mill on ship and fittings when you can have as much fun in a ship 100 mill plus fittings. It's great being Amarr, aint it? --------------------------------

You have used a fairly poor example to prove that HACs are better than BC, setup corretly a Myrm can kill a HAC and the same is true vice versa.
Your Ishtar maybe able to eat "your" Myrm because you know what setup both are useing i could say my Zelot eats my Herbinger but i cant say my Zelot eats anyones BC till it actualy does. It's great being Amarr, aint it? --------------------------------

One of my corp mate used to solo 6/10s and 8/10s in a cerberus. Average time, 10-20minutes. You can't do that in a BC. Been there tried that, lost my ship. The resistances and speeds favour the HACs so much, it just hurts. HACs are very good at what they do. BCs are just too slow for it. ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

As no ship in the game does what the Cerb does best (speed and ranged DPS) it does not prove it to be better than a BC in pvp people dont behave like NPC's. It's great being Amarr, aint it? --------------------------------

I haven't attempted to prove that HACS are better than BC's in fact, the Myrm is very typical of a poor mans Ishtar and so comparisons to an Ishtar seem applicable.
I also didn't rely on my own personal setups or skills in making a comparison between an Ishtar and Myrm, but simply used the generic ship info and bonuses. On paper..the Ishtar should out perform the Myrm becuase the Myrm has a limited drone bay and no specific bonus to medium guns. The nice thing a Myrm has going for it is the great medium armor repper bonus, but one could easily argue the tech II resists of the ishtar even the playing field.
I enjoy both ships, but each have their own roles and neither makes the other obsolete.

When I read this, all I think is "Subarus made Ferraris useless." Fact of the matter is, if you're a Suby fan, you're a Suby fan. If you love Ferraris, you love Ferraris. Does the fact that an STI can kill a 360 change their prices? Nope. Same thing here.
Nine times out of ten, the 360 is going to blow the doors off of whatever it comes across. Against a skilled STI driver, it's going to lose. Same thing here.

Hmm... Cerberus, Drake, or NH, which can tank both the Cerberus and Drake.
HACs are very nice in some situations, however I would not make a habit out of using a HAC to take on skilled pilots in tier 2 BCs.

Unlike you I do not mimic my setups. Vaga with armor tank? Better tank than shield tanking obviously. Viable? Yes... To say otherwise means you know nothing about the ship shield tanking, armor tanking, or no tanking. Non stabbed Vaga, and you still complain. Next please...
Stabbed Tempest hrrmm Why would my Tempest be stabbed including a Rapier that has cloaking technology. I mean it can cloak for god sakes. Why do people put stabs on there ships? To escape... It's fun jumping into a crowd with a Rapier and ECM jamming 3 people to kill 1 then escaping due to the 4th able to scramble you. It's like assasination baby. You wouldn't know anything about tactics. You're still stuck on cookie cutter setups and mimican what others say is bad. Solo is the only way to live. Also something you know nothing about. Next please ;)
Before you even attempt to reply to my response. Have you flown a Rapier with WCS's on in PvP? Have you dont the same with the Tempest? How about armor tanking the Vagabond for example. If the answer is no to all 3. Then why are you even posting a reply... When you figure that out, you will understand why we have less real combat pilots in EVE who actually know anything about the system.
wtb real pilots commenting on setups please.

10-20 minutes to solo a 6/10 or 8/10? A cerb will be lucky to finish an easy level 4 mission in 10-20 minutes solo, so either your corpmate lies, or something is very wrong with those plexes.

WTF are u on dude. you don't know me fool.
little comment about what your saying
firstly you said you don't mumic your setups? you don't copy your setups? well why would you they're yours lol.
ok i solo pvp a helluva lot if you speak to anyone who knows me and fitting 2 stabs to any pvp ships post kali is dumb and will get u killed very easily. and a rapier with cloak and 2 stabs? do u ever hope to lock anything in time?
ppl like you make me laugh, you say that i know nothing about tactics, i use cookie cutter setups, that i don't solo or know anything about staying alive? u got all that from me laughing at u flying a stabbed rapier and armour tanking a vaga. wow that is seriously impressive. take a chill pill, lose the stabs and fight like a big boy. if u wanna see me fighting solo 4bs to my 1 then pls check podbase or my own killboard before ranting off. and next time try to make them actually make sense also pls.

I havent flown my vagabond since Kali but thats mainly because of the wcs nerf. I fell in love with the hurricane though. so yeah RIP HACs.

lol at that famine guy, what a nub :D
Anyhow, i don't see how a hurricane substitutes the vagabond?
It's way easier to catch a hurricane than a vaga. Ofcourse vagabond probably does less damage, but it's a lot faster.
The only way to make the hurricane go as fast as vaga is to shieldtank it.... That would make it have a lot worse tank than a vagabond...
Maybe i am missing something...
Anyhow, that said, i don't generally bother engaging drakes with my vaga, but hurricane/harbringer/myrmidon aren't that hard to kill when you can just use the vagabond's falloff bonus and stay out of web range.
Simply said - if you get webbed in a vaga, it's time to stop flying it, if you don't get webbed, there's no way to get killed imo.

my opinion, not that its important but here it is lol, is that the pilots who originally flew HACS are moving on to Command ships. So to those pilots they are almost useless. however, i think its really remarkable how EVE is set up in a way that now there is a whole slew of new pilots just now jumping in to them.
But regardless of what you personally think about HACs, when you run into one on the battlefield you still have to show it respect because oyur dealing with a new generation of pilot with new ideas and battle tactics. Even if its useless to you, never underestimate your oponent. Especially if you think your the best thing in the world. Cause its only when you get that*****y that some "newbie" in a HAC will tear you to pieces.
Welcome to EVE :)

I <3 watching HAC videos and I plan on getting either the Zealot of Ishtar when July '07 rolls around...maybe both.
HAC's aren't dead. Adapt and survive. High resists combined with superior boni equals a very competative ship. T2 BCs can and aree killed every day by HACs.
As a sidenote I wish I had joined BoB but was fooled into thinking AXE Alliance was halfway decent. Any room for a 3-month old 3 mil SP 'newbie' in BoB?

<3 Assumptions. Pre-Kali not Post-Kali.
To the other babble, I wont comment on. You obviously have no clue what you speak of, only assuming more non-sense due to the typical cookie cutter pvper attitude on assuming you know when you don't. You have to fly the ships and the setups to have experience in them. It's like being a virgin and giving advice on sex.
Stabbed ECM Rapier = Overpowering (Now nerfed) :) Stabbed Tempest = Annoying but effective (Now nerfed) :) Armor Tanking Vagabond = Different and fun Shield Tanking Vagabond = Annoying but effective Shield Tanking Vagabond Stabbed = Annoying but effective (Now nerfed)

The above is another point on why so many pilot fail to understand that it's not just the setup the beats your opponent but you yourself that beats your opponent. If you came here thinking that flying A ship with B fitting because C said it was the win or uninstall EVE. Then you have already lost.

So Rock please meet Paper, Paper please meet Scissor and Scissor please meet Rock.
you know.. rock paper and scissors dotn work when you hit two rocks until you put the paper on fire and use it to melt the scissors.

Welcome to EVE.
Actually, i got a kill:loss ratio of about 90:1 atm, so i do know how to win.
I also know that in a 1v1, i'd *****an armortanked vaga any day with a shieldtanked one.
Let's see.... you are slow as hell, your tank sucks, and you do no damage, yeah great idea...
You know, there's a difference between good out of the box setups that work (Nanophoon anyone?) and just shouting EUREKA at everything that is different.
Different doesn't mean better, just because you convert your vaga into a three legged puppy, doesn't mean that you are now special and uber.

I fly Zealots and Absolutions (and Harbringers). They all have their individual uses.
An Absolution is a much heavier tanked Zealot. Sure it can dish out more damage, and tank more, but it's not as agile, and takes a ******* age to get into range (if it does).
The Zealot is an awesome ship. It can dish out damage far beyond the reach of the Harbringer and Absolution, and is insanely hard to hit because of it's agility. Factor in the T2 resists, and you have a nice little package.
The Harbringer is a cheap mix between the two. It can dish out damage, but it's cheap, has T1 resists, it also can't lock as far as the Zealot or Abso can.
Each individual class has it's uses. HAC's are deffinately not useless, and they have their uses, and are very good at what they do.
Think about it - You're more likely to lose a tier 2 BC against a BS than you are a HAC, and HAC's are made specificly to take out battleships (as has been said thousands of times). ---

While I do not fly the vagabond I can see that it *could* be made effective while armour tanking. Try a different and it may just work. I like the idea of it tanking instead of a running ship like those lame stababonds.
Would have to have balls to take it into pvp instead of saying, "oh well i cant kill it i will run instead". at least he has to commit to the fight. Lets see if my sig can survive this round of *****ing

I could see where your argument is coming from. But with a 200m ship, running isnt a half bad idea. Also the ship is a very terrible armor tanker with only 4 low slots, and without those 4 slots used for damage mods, you wont break a T1 frigs tank.
Tanking is nice, but armor tanking on a vagabond is a no no for anyone. No matter how smart they think they are.
And to Thama, thats pretty much all the vagabond was made for

Edited by: ThaMa Gebir on 25/12/2006 21:02:05 True, that point I will concede to but I do also find that the real "spice" in this game is the fact people can ad will use non cookie cutter setups, thus creating situations the enemy might not have thought of before hand, possibly throwing him off and him losing the fight.
As an example I have on a couple of occasions scared a few people off before when in an armour tanked cruise missile ecm raven, they weren't expecting that one......
As they hit the brick wall they crapped out one I am sure.
Anyway back to topic.
If you wanna chat anymore will be on tomorrow early in am (approx 8.00 eve time).

This is perhaps the funniest forum post I have ever seen, and to be sure the funniest in the eve forums. I choked on my lunch while reading this, and made me feel comfortable and safe in my assumption that in the vast jungle of idiocy to be found in Eve, there are green lungs of intelligence and wit. Thank you very much.
I second that, I nearly sneezed cola throught my nose sitting here in the office. Thank you very much indeed
