IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
just had tiscali uk head office on the phone- they called me there policy is they cannot and will not garentee a service for eve on peak hours of the day. this is a direct contrivension of our contracts, i highly advise any customer having this problem to look into taking matters that one step further. i know i am and will kick some serious ass. so tiscali if your reading this look the hell out you got a storm coming i promise you.

if they cant garenty me what i have paid for and my persistent attempts to get them to solve the problem continue to fail im gunna have to demand they release me from what ever 12 month contract im in and allow me to migrate, i cant see how they can hold me to it if they are providing what im paying for
i dont wanna move i want the stupid problem fixed

Thank you for getting back to us with the information.
I have forwarded the issue to our engineers. They are aware of this problem and are currently working on a resolution.
In the interim, please accept my apologies if this issue is currently affecting your peak time usage.
Regards,
Tiscali Technical Support
hehe a resolution.. basically away that doesnt involve them turning off all there restrictions on what people use hehehehe

Guys? I know this may seem kind of giving in but it seems to me that you might be far better off by just migrating? I'm sure that if you are still under contract but you threatened to advise OFCOM about this they would be prepared to let you go? Just tell them that you were not advised specifically that certain sites would be arbitrarily restricted at certain times of day. I would suggest that would make the contract voidable in your favour.
When I DID migrate I found that BT could provide a FAR faster speed on the same line...and THEY have more subscribers than Tiscali and ALL their subsidiaries. Tiscali is bad...and will only get worse. Bale out now and vote with your wallet!

sorry but i wouldnt go to bt if someone paid me, all connections were bt and 99 percent still are just re branded undersomeone elses customer services number. i liiked tiscalis fair use policy compared to bts and many other companys but it said nothing in there about periodic restrictions when they feel like it
there is nothing ofcom can do, ofcom wont handle individual complaints, they only note what the complaint was about and put them in a pile if the pile gets big enough then they act on it, imagine how big that pile needs to be for them to take notice
if i migrated, it would probably be to adsl24

Edited by: Al Thorr on 02/09/2007 13:16:24 Used to be on tiscali several years ago - and believe me they were just as bad.
I had to ditch them via the long route of cancellation then wait for token to be released on line.( no Mac codes) Went to Nildram ( now pipex) and they were fine until 5 months ago the latencies became higher and extra hops being added.
So moved to Be Online and all is sweetness and light. ( for now - touch wood)
My advice to anyone who is able to leave tiscali - do so.

I do not look at disconnects then rather on a tremendous amount of packet loss, nearly 50% at one server. This surely makes lag and desync worse.

hi richy was after my one year contract so could leave np. shame for the year it was a good isp with no problems. if you kick up a right stink though and tell them they have already made the contract null and void i really dont see how they can make you adhere to it. also asked for my mac code today and within two hours it was in my e mail address ready for me to use good luck to you all i really did try to deal with them for us all but they really dont want us as valued customers anymore. keep in touch using this forum for a while and if your ever in isinokka 5-2 please look me up and say hi.

sucks big time they say just becuase i cant play online games in peak hours its not a good enough reason for them to release me from my contracted 12 month period.. shocking which bascially means ive gotta continue complaning forr months and months till i finally get through to someone who can actualyl say i can leave

Mate...you have to speak to someone in a position of responsibility. They cannot unilaterally decide which uses they are going to restrict you to....did they specify this upon you signing the contract?

its not like you get a contract to sign though is it you simple tell them over the phone you wanna join then 3 days later you have internet, if i dont have the mac code and eave i willbe forced to wait 15 odd days thats after i get cut off and then pay an activation fee with the new company but i would rather someone else have my money than tiscali who has provided a rubbish to no survice. i still would like the mac code im gunna right a letter to customer services then try trading standards if i dont get a satisfactory reply

I can't belive this issue is still going on! I had the connection probems, months ago. In fact, it was late last year!!
Do yourselves a favour all and change ISP!
Ring Tiscali and get your MAC code. They are obliged to get it too you within 24 hours. Find new ISp, demon are superb. I get lightening fast service and higher bandwidth. Is slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Tiscali are hopeless.
Sign up with new ISP, your service will switch over instantly in a day or two. You will not experience any loss of connection and you will not be charged for moving ISP.

Forgot to mention, If your on contract and they try to chrge you, just compain. I told them they were breaking their own FUP by blocking access to the game server (which they were back then, between 5pm and 10m). keep complaining and you'll win

Eclipse Nildram homecall (pipex) easynet
each of these ISP's were owned or used pipex for there internet accsess. and now pipex have been bought by Tascali. BBC news report. so I would expect over time each of these servises to continualy get worse as they "load balance" there network.
however currently I am on Pipex and my connection has been prity stable, only really bad on bank hollidays

IM FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE free to do whatever i....
finally after loads of phone calls and emails tiscali have released me they are migrating the current customer base from ipstream which doesnt allow connections in peak im assuming due to extreme traphic shaping due to congestion at peak times.
anyways the process is automated and is planned over the next year or so... so when they keept sending me emails saying please bare with us the engeineers are working on it was a bit of an understatment!
you just neeed to get the engineeres to admit that it will take a silly amount of time to fix and then they have to let you out of your contract becuase they cant provide a service
so 1 month into my contract and after they upgraded me to 8mb as well ive been set free im planning on moving to adsl24 i here its all unlimited and noblocking or p2p restrictions!

its not on purpose eve uses a quite high up port 26000 i think world of warcraft uses a much lower one for example something like 60 i think at peak to stop peer to peer downlaoding on the ipstream service which is congested they basically stop everything they can get away with above the most common ports. else becuase its sooo congested most peoples internets would probably grind to a halt they thought buying up a few other companys extra pipes would have sorted the problem and i did notice it ease slightly but nopw its back to starting being blocked even earliyer at 4pm! they are never going to release there restrictions becuase they will never get a handle on the congestion becuase they simpley arnt willing to invest in enough new capacity no company is hence why the internet is so crap in the uk compared to other leading countrys
its a shame that they dont consider blocking eve a problem ! i bet if they had blocked world of warcraft they would have noticed the when 1 million customers migrated looool
Bottom line and i think it should be added to the first post for new people to the thread, is tiscali have NO estimated time on fixing the problem becuase they have no plans on fixing it they will tell you they are attempting to fix it but its all support line rubbish if you get through to any one that knows anything they will tell you its been going on for a year and they still have no idea when it will be fixed ie: never! you ARE allowed to be released from your contract, I was ! they arnt providing the service your paying for and can not provide it! if you keep on and on at cancellations they will let you out with out penalty and give you a make code
i recommend ADSL24 for uk customers

I've had absolutely zero problems with Tiscali, in two years.
...until I tried to play EVE.
I managed to get on for a few hours in the early hours of the morning, but other than that, nope. MSN works, WoW works, every concievable other Internet related thing I own, works fine. But not EVE :( It's annoying, because from the few hours I played, I love the game.
Two months until I move into my new flat :D A flat that Tiscali will get absolutely nowhere near.

Just to check it is actually Tiscali's fault, I thought I'd post what's happening to me, so I can check if it's the same for everyone.
I load EVE. Underneath the Server dropdown box it says "Checking Status". Trying to log in at this point gives an "Unable to find server" error.
After a short while, 'Checking Status' changes to 'Status Unknown'. Trying to log in now goes to 'Authenticating', and stays there until it eventually times out.
Does that sound familiar?
