I've emailed customer support but I'm not expecting anything more than either:
-It's your fault -It's BT's fault -Please look at our useless FAQ's that you probably already have but we don't care we have your money.
EDIT - Just as a cross-check, I tried running KC Easy and I couldn't connect to any of the networks. Cheers Tiscali!
I was just a bit too late to edit and add your name.

quoting gm.....(08/07/2007) Players using Tiscali as their ISP seem to have problems connecting or staying connected to the server, this is a problem known by Tiscali and they are working on it.
-------
are they fu*k, 6 months on and it still aint fixed.
i pay ccp for a service, o and not being able to connect is hardly a service......
ok Tiscali are the biggest pile of **** going, but as far as i am concerned it up to ccp to make a stand against this isp.. (it is blocking there product) and fix this.
like many i am changing my isp, but this is not the point ccp should be doing there best to keep there paid for product availble to all.
did i mention that tiscali users have no problem conecting to WOW, maybe we should all just subscribe to that instead... ok its rubbish but atleast i could play it.
yes I know IÆm a dyslectic illiterate monkey. please donÆt waste my time with none constructive criticism

Actually, I'm with you there. I don't understand why they're happy to lose players through this.
I did say that I'd probably have to suspend my subscription, and it was "OK, sorry. It's down to your ISP".
If I ran a shop, and the road leading to that shop was permanently closed, I'd be making more of a fuss about it.

Just got my MAC from Tiscali.
They asked why i wanted it so i told them flat. They are ****e and don't deserve my money. I also got the "we are sorting it but give us a few weeks" response from their Customer nonservice team.

CCP dont have a contract with Tiscali you do if you feel so strongly take them to a small claims court. 6 months x subs + 6 months x tiscali fees assuming you been affected.
When they lose they might up the priority on a fix.

You can't expect CCP to do anything with this. No matter how and what you think, they are not the side of the problem that exists between you and Tiscali. Do you expect CCP to change their client-server protocol (that's what would have to be done to fix the problem without involving Tiscali) because some ****ty ISP is trigger-happy with L7 filtering? Three solutions are: 1) you change ISP 2) you quit playing EVE 3) you look for a workaround.
Personally I feel 1) is best, but I have 3) for you if you can't change your ISP for some reason. Look earlier in the thread, or on http://eve.75.pl/ - I however feel that you should vote with your money and move elsewhere. Filtering by ISPs is getting really bad and letting them do that will just make things worse. Just don't blame CCP for this, or their inaction - there is not really much they can do.

You can also nail a 300 name list of people on their forums and see if they ignore it.

Edited by: N4PALM on 21/01/2008 06:43:41 Those who have recieved the eve mail about contacting Ofca for a so called solution to the not being able to connect issue.
Sorry Ofca but I recommend users dont do this. Ofca is cashing in on yr troubles and it may not even be safe for you to do so. This looks to me to be him setting up a proxy, and thats all good but...
You dont know who he is, do you really want your EVE traffic going through his server which includes yr login password.
AND why pay isk to this guy for this service when there are free alternatives out there already. If you read these various Tiscali related threads you will know this. I posted the following solution on these very forums months ago, it was the only way I could connect at the time. (For a permanent solution leave Tiscali FFS its not hard to do, do it already, Tiscali suck)
HTTP-Tunnel Is a free app that will solve your problems. I was using this program for months before I finally left Tiscali for a better ISP. There is also a paid version of HTTP-Tunnel that gives you a higher bandwidth service which I also used to pay for, costs soemthing like ú2.50 per month and you can pay by paypal.
So you have the option of a reliable service that works already and you would be dealing with a proper company not just some guy on EVE that you dont know.
P.S. I realise Ofca is probably just trying to help, and it may well be genuine, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt be cautious of such offers. --- I'm in yr posts dleetin all yr sigs - Cortes Fight the power! - Cortes |

Please do not spread hoaxes and your so called "ideas" if you don't have a trace of knowledge on the topic you're bashing me on. All EVE traffic is end-to-end encrypted, there is cryptographically sane way for me to view legibly or change any traffic between client and server or vice-versa. My alternative and solution is also free money-wise and much faster and more stable than your solution.
Now we all have things straight.

This method of SSH tunneling is often used to encrypt firewall management traffic . If its secure enough to pass stringent audits from large financial institutions, then its secure enough for my Eve traffic.
This solution is real money free, has no bandwidth restrictions and works. What bandwidth does the free subcription of http-tunnel get?
I don't see why Ofca shouldn't receive something for putting this solution together, taking you through getting it working, giving up his bandwidth and ensuring that his equipment is always on.

Harlequ1n, while you're mostly right, it doesn't work exactly this way. Traffic is encrypted between you and me only, but I can still view it unencrypted on my side. That said, unencrypted traffic is encrypted itself by the eve-client, so to put it simply: there are two layers of encryption, first one is decrypted on my server, second on CCP server. I could easily look beyond first encryption layer, but not beyond second. Your passwords, pew pew traffic and other oh-so-important things are safe from my oh-so-nosy self. ;p
PS. Why there are two stickies on the same subject? :)

I cancelled tiscali - 3 days got MAC code - went for Fast.co.uk...
Last friday night - no internet - called Fast.co.uk - 2 rings - spoke to the guy - he said - yes - you are with us now :)
He gave me my details - which were stuck in my hotmail account (no net - no mail)...
Entered the garbled username and password into my netgear - kaaa-pow online...
I had an IP change on Sunday night - other than that - no outage - no "server could not be fouond" or "client didn't perform the secure handshake in the required time" messages :)
Missus and I on 2 machines - on EVE - no issues :)
Plus - my router says i now get 3.7 download - better than tiscali - who gave me 1mb :)
If you are with Tiscali - just leave - they have breached your contrac t- not you...
every where i go - i will deter all users from Tiscali...
I still can't believe after a few years with them - they c**k up like that - out of the blue...
tiscali = a need to change ISP...
If your parents pay for your ISP - say that it's more secure with BT or Fast.co.uk or any others - which i'm sure they'll think of your saftey as a minor...
if not - tie their shoe laces up every morning until they cave in...

oh - and for pricing - i went for 2gb download limit option to start - as i only download patches for games - so don't need uber connection - fast is the same as the package i was on with Tiscali - except fast is (pardon the pun) faster and doesn't filter or monitor...
well, they don't actively monitor - passivley they get a flag if you go over your download limit - then call you up to make sure this isn't regular... As i'll only be doing patches - i don't see i will clock up the download...

If you go over your monthly limit for Verizon FiOS (fiber optic), they just shut your connection off. ------------------

Originally by: Ofca Black Spartan, do you still have the problem and old solutions stopped working? I would be willing to let you try without any costs just to see if my solution is better. After today's experiments I can confirm that problems are due to some L7 filtering/traffic shaping; problems persisted until traffic has been encrypted. Contact me in-game if you wish. :)
hehe i would love to try it dude, hehe i have tried everyone else i know. like i said we set up a working system a few months ago but that has been borked. could just be a blip my end. ermmm lol i would also try and convo you now but i cant get on eve lol. ermm you can mail me @ [email protected] so we can arrange something as due to work i think im only available during tiscalis extra downtime :(

I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry....
Something has definately changed for me today as for the first time in two weeks I can access Eve tonight (20:02). I certainly could not on Saturday afternoon and didn't try on Sunday afternoon (although was okay as normal Sunday morning) so I don't know if this was related to the changes that were made on Friday. I also seem to have just developed (since starting to write this mail!) a complete loss of DNS. Can't easily spot if my trace to Tranq has changed or not although the IPs look familiar - I'll retry this when I get DNS back. I also seem to be getting "normal" (slow line here) download speeds for me - which I'd noticed had been reduced to about 1/2 some evenings - this may or may not be related.
Please can Snaith let the Tiscali guy know that at least one Pipex user here has noticed some difference ...

Edited by: Shpuntik on 21/01/2008 21:06:52 lets face it the truth of the matter is tiscali over past week shot itself in the foot by bringing in these new and wonderful bandwidth reduction stuff but what it didn't say on the tin was that its most likly to cut your customer base by 30% at least as this programming blocks everything but web browsers and msn.
It seems ofcom aren't all that interested unless we got everybody here to sign a petition and send it to them asking them to sort it out. I think I will see if I get a reply from my sh*t*y e-mail tomorrow just so I can get a laugh out of it then look at new ISP.
Anybody got any recommendations?
PS I am banned from tiscali forums for telling them to get there fingers out there asses with of swear word or 3 for added colour, seems the truth hurts and I have now been fired from my job as a cleaner for tiscali HQ.......there goes my career as a goon spy :'(

Pipex Could not connect to EVE from at least 19:20 tonight. But I noticed I'd lost connection earlier today and had picked up a different route via ge-7-1-0.lon11.ip.tiscali.net [213.200.77.49]
Refreshed connection about 20:05 - no DNS, as Kaloss found. Rebooted router about 20:10 - DNS restored and EVE accessible via xe-1-3-0.lon20.ip.tiscali.net [213.200.79.181] xe-2-0-0.lon10.ip.tiscali.net [89.149.186.185] which seems to be my normal route, with one extra hop.

Eve was Ok for me on Friday night, I didn't try on Saturday, and was back to disconnection hell at 4PM on Sunday until 11PM. My connection is so slow once the traffic management kicks in that it takes about 15 seconds to load the BBC news site and I'm unable to download anything at all. This really is sub-dialup speeds and a complete joke. My written complaint to Pipex customer services and Ofcom were sent yesterday.
