Well I got a response on my ticket :-
Thank you for letting us know.
We are aware of an issue currently with this Game.
We are currently investigating and shall update you as soon as we have further information.
I'm not going to hold my breath on this one and after 48 hours relatively issue free I'm back at Checking Status errors. I have also noticed that my Bittorrent goes to pot at the same time as my eve connection - could there be some p2p issues involved here?

Some web searching leads me to believe that port 26000 is used both to connect to EVE and by a number of download tools/systems. So, wouldn't really surprise me if this is indeed a switch being flicked at Eclipse; maybe not manually but by some "overload protection".
That's why it would be extremely useful if experts from CCP could get in touch with experts at Eclipse and hammer this one out. I am operating purely on observation and limited technical knowledge (and some research results from websites, none of which has any Firm answers).

Edited by: Jeretomi on 01/10/2007 10:08:48 Well, managed an hr or so this morning, but now back to constant disconnects and hangs at various points of the connection process. Stuck at "Checking status" now.
It's only EVE I'm having trouble with, and I vary rarely download/torrent during the day/evening...will always start big downloads just before going to bed, so I can't really comment on their performance

I have been having this problem of being stuck at aquiring bulk data for about 2 weeks now.
I have found that deleting the cache directory (c:\users\username\appdata\local\ccp\eve\cache\ on vista) will get around it, however I need to do this after EVERY downtime. Once cache is deleted I can log in and out fine however until the following downtime.
It is also occuring on 2 windows XP machines, one of which I formatted and installed nothing but drivers and eve with no success.
They all run through the same dsl connection, however I happen to be in the position of working for the ISP I use and can state with certainty that nothing network side has changed and it has been functioning just fine up until recently. I wish I had taken note of exactly when it began, but I think it coincides roughly with the last patch.
The whole thing is quite frustrating tbh, especially since you lose everything in cache which adds extra loading time to certain elements of the game. |

Back to where I started. Checking Status... then Unknown.
I know the server is up --> Check service
Sigh.
This is getting beyond a joke...

Ok... it is not a problem with the bulk data section of loading for most of us. We are stuck on the log on screen where you put your username and password in. This is because the server status for Tranquility is reporting "checking status" then "unknown" for us!!! So it seems for what ever reason our clients can not connect to the Tranquility server! This is happening more and more frequently and mainly at busy times. It looks like its being switched like others have said. Oh and yes, I have had completely enough of it and it has gone far beyond a joke now. I am contemplating ringing eclipse and disconnecting with them if this is not resolved by the end of the day. I pay for four eve accounts plus the 8meg eclipse connection and im not paying for something I cant access and use.

I've been with Eclipse for about 4 years now. Their service has been excellent...
Up until about 2 months ago. Then I started getting problems with EVE which I had never seen before. Been playing EVE for about 18 months.
I have just had a second phone line installed and I was about to sign up for another connection with Eclipse. Not now. No way.
I've ordered my broadband through zen. I hear good things about them. So here's hoping...
If zen works out I will then drop Eclipse.

I too have been with eclipse for a number of years and never had any problems, it'll be a shame if this forces me to move ISP although the Sky offer does look quite good.
I've sent them another polite service ticket to jolly them along a bit anyway......

Jumping in as another guy with connection Issues & Eclipse.
I've been having the Bulk Data cheese for a few months now; from back around April when I first moved to Eclipse. I've always just assumed it was my fairly random network setup that was causing it (same time I moved to Eclipse, I changed my network setup so that I had a wireless bridge between the router, and a wired network in my room where my computers are).
However, today, I can't see the server at all.
Tracert is giving me an almost identical route to Crayathan, nothing after hop #8 for me, at company.customer.muc.de.colt.net

Not sure if you are with Eclipse, Alster, but if you are, wait until tonight and see if it still works. I can connect fine during "UK off-peak" hours. The problem appears to kick in the moment people come home from work and log in en masse.
Nevertheless, I hope it continues to work for you

Just spoke to them on the phone, apparently the engineers are working on a fix atm.
but, they have no time scale to when it will be completed by. I asked a day a week... they said hopefully within a week.

wonder if I can sue eclipse for lost ISK or atleast claim back the time I would have spent in game from them! I've lost the best part of a months gaming because I've not been able to login to any of my accounts, maybe I could charge them the fee for that period?
I'm not going to hold my breath, as soon as I've had the chance I'm going to swap to ADSL24, cheaper, reliable and a whole lot faster!

OK, I just tried using an SSH tunnel to my Dedicated Server.
Using port 31337 from my computer -> my server, then onwards to Tranq works fine. Using port 26000 from my computer -> my server, then onwards to Tranq works fine. (Although the latency seems to be MUCH higher)

wonder if the nice people at CCP could make us all a nice little SSH tunnel or somthing to use!

I'm going to fiddle a bit more, and talk with a few people. I may possibly dole out some accounts for people to at least temporarily use so that they can get access to Tranq, however it will potentially cause a few problems for me in terms of keeping it secure. (There's a few people in EVE that would happily take my kindness in this respect and use it to either damage my Server and/or get me in trouble with CCP.)
Also, guess who will be getting my MAC code as soon as Eclipse send me one

I can connect (very slowly mind) using an application called HTTP-Tunnel-Client. From what I gather is it routes you around the bottleneck; you can use it for free and it'll be sloooow, or you can pay for the service.
Check it out at http://www.HTTP-Tunnel.com.

Mine lasted about 20 mins, with 2 clients, then I got kicked off.
Just got back in, sticking with single client for the moment.
I had a really bad day at the office. A cold beer didn't help, but I'm still working on this. I don't like to give up too easily. So I'll have aonther beer ... It might work eventually.
Bu55er! Just got kicked out again. While I was writing this... Damn.
