I was OK this morning. Now I'm stuck at 'Acquiring Bulk Data'
It sits there and sulks for several minutes then drops out and goes back to the login sceen.
I assume that this is the same basic problem?

Edited by: Ace101 on 02/10/2007 18:46:26 im on eclipse and im having exactly the same problems as everyone else. i just got onto this connection a week ago so didnt know if i was my fault or not.
i was playing fine this morning, fine yesterday morning. couldnt connect between 15.00 and 23.00 for the last 3 days. i get to the character screen and it just dies after on entering ganme. i have also had the aquiring bulk data crash too.
another thing ive noticed is that it is very slow to show TQ's status normally, and sometimes not at all.

Hi there everyone.
Wow - Eclipse are being a bit naughty! Hmm - I've opened a ticket too. I was really looking forward to playing tonight - very upset about this. I Like Eclipse - they would give me a static IP address and host my Domain - and they don't block ports - like a lot of other suppliers do.
I will expect a full explanation from Eclipse for Censoring my internet.

Nope. Dead in the water again...
Eclipse are finished as far as I'm concerned.
All I can get from them is "We're working on it".
Just not good enough. This has been going on for 5 days. It started (for me at least) on Friday of last week.
It's a real shame, they used to be really good.

i'm off to sky.. but reckon i might be taking my chances a little.. (wanted the TV channles to much to go the other way)
www.skyuser.co.uk is a good forum resource on them.. but from the posts its a bit hit and miss.. the thing which swung me (apart the TV channels) was that my exchange has been llu enabled for sky so should be pretty good service..
well fingers crossed

I'm lucky. I've got a second phone line. So I have arranged to get a second ISP on the other line. I've opted for zen. Should be enabled a week today. 5 working days.
Just getting the MAC isn't really good enough for me. I have to change Email addresses and give people time to register the change, etc. It's a real hassle.
So I'll run the 2 ISPs in parallel for for a couple of months. I'll move my Email to something which is ISP neutral (google?, yahoo?) I can then just drop Eclipse.
zen appear to have a good reputation. (So did Eclipse ) zen have a monthly contract plan. I'm always wary of 12 or 18 month contracts. So we'll how it goes.

Five days? That's a lot of chances.
The thing that annoys me is the quality of service. No explaination. They closed the call without asking if the problem was resolved. All I can get from them is "We're working on it" No ETA, not even a guess. It's just not good enough. That's the real problem.
I know the world is not perfect I don't expect it to be. I do expect decent customer service. Eclipse have failed to provide decent customer service. It's not just me who thinks this.

The point I'm trying to make is that they might very well be in the middle of a technical s**tstorm right now and simply not be wanting to let on how bad it is for pr matters. They are providing the levels of customer service required to inform us of whats going on. They are acknowledging calls in a reasonably prompt manner (despite people like you continuously harassing them), they are informing people that the issue is being attended to and will no doubt get a resolution in due time. The call being closed could just be an error by a stressed out helpdesk operator having a bad day because geeks are harrassing them about a video game.
So unravel the knickers, put teddy back into bed and stop being a n00b.

the fact that CCP has not publically addressed the issue is a gripe with me, but they are the providers of a game that we choose to play as we enjoy it when it works.. thus i have a certain level of patience when there is an issue such a emergency reboot etc..
However eclipse is simply a way for me to access the net, and what they providing is not a unique service, therefore i beleive that they should maintain a certain level of professionalism and provide a clear explaination as to the situation, not just 'we are working on it' after four days of nothing.
I had been with eclipse for three years and in that time i have been impressed with the service all the way through, but it has clearly been going downhill as of late and for me broadband is a luxury service from which i would like to get what i pay for... bearing in mind that anyone like me that runs two eve accounts the money we are wasting in subsciption is building up...
(plus i really want to play eve.. lol)

Hold on. I have not continually harrassed them. Two polite enquires over 4 days is hardly harassment.
I have worked on a hep desk. I know what it's like to be harassed by irate customers. My 2 polite enquires are not even close.
As for being a noob. Actually I have over 25 years experience in the IT industry. Inculding my 3 year stint doing end user (help desk) software support. I know all about the stress involved in customer support. I also know how to do it properly and this ain't how you do it.
You're right about one thing though - I am going to go to bed.

Thanks for the irrelevant life story regarding your IT background, I wont bother you with my IT background story.
Fact remains that they could have a number of issues to deal with here, we dont know that and I'm sure that if thats the case then I'm also sure they dont have time to explain it in detail to every tard that mails them. Variations in severity indicate that they are trying things, the problem isn't just being ignored. Factors involving the length of time to sort it can include liasing with outside contractors, serious data loss and recovery on servers, unplanned maintenance problems, late pizza, take your pick.
Just give up on the "OMGWTFZORZ my isp iz n00bs for not being able to shake a stick at a problem and make it vanish in 3 seconds" cus thats the n00bish part.
If it remains in 2-3 weeks without explanation however....

Well the issue has been running since the middle of August so either you have the patience of Job or they have gone way past due time. Yes they could have major technical issues but the only people up in arms are those using port 26000 from what I have read, EVE and Quake players on Eclipse and Tiscali. As for PR this issue seems to be snowballing and that is a recipe for a PR disaster.
They are not informing anyone of anything - there have just been a series of cut and paste reply's to tickets. My first ticket was closed without me agreeing the problem was fixed and indeed it has proved not to have been.
The total lack of communication is looking rather suspicious now and might reflect anticipated potential legal difficulties in terms of broken contracts. Of course this could all be made easier with a public statement and an time line for a fix.

Eve on Eclipse is still broken
I have to agree - 5 days is too long for them to put back the change they made on Thursday / Friday. I have been with eclipse since 2001 or 2002 - they have been good with a couple of exceptions.
Eclipse - please fix your network. This is not acceptable.
If you tell us what you are doing, its one thing. But not even publically recognising the issue is a real issue to your customer is a major issue. |

I wasn't going to dignify this post with a reply but I couldn't resist this. I started having serious problems on Friday the 28th Sept. I didn't log the ticket until 17:00 on Saturday the 29th Sept. So I gave them a days grace before I logged a ticket.
A day is a bit more than 3 seconds. Just thought I'd point that out.
Now, what did I do with my teddy...

Eclipse here as well. Started getting these problems a few days ago but now I can't get in properly. Unfortunately, I do not have the option of switching ISP.
I want some background intel on what is happening. Clearly there is no general issue since ICMP packets get through to the servers, basic connectivity is proven..
Either Ecplipse / BT or CCP logs MUST show something out of the order or at least contain clues as to where the problem lies. Now, employees (or devs by all means) from the above companys, get the intel on what is happening and post it.

So, obviously no bandwidth throttling going on here, then...

well I've asked for my MAC number and I'm off to Plusnet who are pro gamer. Apparently they "regocnise" gamers needs and put gamers first knowing their needs. I pay for internet NOW not next week/month so stuff Eclipse. I pay to play EVE NOW not next week/month. So Eclipse can swivel as far as I'm concerned. If an ISP cannot provide for your needs surely that is a sign to switch?

Yep, Eclipse used to be one of the best around when they were a small operation. I've been with them since 2003 I think.
In the past year their general service has gone downhill though, E-mail access in the first half of the year was poor and general speeds have gone downhill.
This whole EVE fiasco just shows how low they've fallen. Probably some kind of port throttling, traffic shaping, whatever but I'm not interested in paying for that sort of nonsense.
Requested my MAC code this morning. A sad end to what used to be a great ISP. I'll probably move to an EntaNet reseller.

Well I've been thinking this might have to do with their "fair bandwith allowance" bull****, or rather that "feature" not working properly as I can always get in late at night or early mornings. The thing is, I don't use up much bandwith and my status is "green" on the support pages so I should NOT be affected by the limitations implemented for heavy users.
ICMP echo tests and tracerouts prove that it is not a latency problem either as I never get over 50ms responsetime with 30ms being the average. Of course I have no way of checking latency withing the evecluster but I really doubt that is the issue.
