Well, the title says it all. Can we please, pretty please, with sugar on top ALSO have it as an OFFICIAL torrent download ? You know, when it comes out.
The full client too
I'd really hate to TRY to download 2+ GB and keep failing or getting a corrupted download. I know I had big issues a long time ago even with the <700 MB client installer (I only ever downloaded it succesfully ONCE, more than a year ago, never again), I shudder to think of the 2+ GB one. _

Besides, somebody WILL be uploading it as a torrent anyway. I'd just hate to download it from thepiratebay and later find out it's spyware/keylogger/trojan/whatever "loaded". That's why I'm saying "official" torrent _

You do realize this is many weeks away, right? Not that I'm saying it shouldn't be done when it's ready, but this is way ahead of schedule.

Well, the decision to use a torrent as a distribution method AT ALL is an issue CCP will have to discuss, rediscuss and mull over repeatedly. I guess it would help if we "lobby" them into even considering it in the first place. They didn't even hint at the possibility that they might be thinking about it.
So nope, 1-2 months in advance isn't "too early", not with this issue _

MUST. HAVE. NAO...
Really, I'd pay some money to get myself a hard copy of EVE. Even if it's just for the heck of having one! (24/7 download rig running at home, 2 gig will be easy in one night.
Also, i support the torrent idea. Heck, i'd even setup a temporary tracker myself if needed! (tough i think people like Chribba would be more up to the job...)

My custom tracker (warpGate) is already working as it has been used when EVE-Files supported torrents before so it's no problem using that again (actually as you posted I was messing around with it to see that it works...)

I'm pretty sure CCP have used "official" torrent distribution in the past, although I don't remember exactly when.

To be fair, it was the "Trinity II" upgrade that's clocking 2+ GB, which might (or might not) be merged into the Rev 3.0 "patch", or be released separately. It probably WILL be released separately, since CCP claims they will maintain compatibility with the old Trinity I engine in Rev 3.0 too. Source ? Some video interview from a month ago.

I'm pretty sure that they never did it. I know, I've looked for it. Never found any official torrent(s) of EVE. Please, try to find any reference to them ever using it, would love to hear that they aren't averse to the idea. _

I too remember this - think it was sometime around Exodus. It was only done for a couple of patches, and only then because the patch downloads were saturating their bandwidth and rendering TQ nearly unplayable for a few days after each patch. IIRC the torrent struggled nearly as much as CCP's server. It was back when CCP still hosted the patch files on their own server alongside TQ, rather than using the distributed hosting service they use now. As I understand it, they can scale that distributed hosting service to whatever they require, so if they know a 2Gb patch is coming, they will have already planned to have the distribution set up to get it out. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Castor -> Exodus Other references are available, just stick "torrent exodus" in the search box thigmy.

If the patcher is good enough it will be way faster than torrent and will remember what its downloaded in the case of a D/C

Irrelivant.. I want a hardcopy for Rev III/Trinity 2 I can buy for peanuts at my local retailer so the next time I reformat my 'puter I won't have to DL 2 gigs of data to play freakin' Eve..

That's a big "if", and no, it would be "about the same" as a torrent, not faster... especially since you don't have much of an incremental patch size, but rather a massive addition.

Lol, then try to install it. If you have downloaded it from the less legal circuits, you need to extract the ISO first. After that, the installer extracts to a temp folder (2x18 gig), and after that you need to install it, taking yet another 18 gig (3x18gig). That's a whooping 54 gig for one game! (edit, lol calculation error)

Also, I too would pay for a hard copy of Eve. I've been downloading the FULL latest version every 6 months or so so I have it on CD. However, 2 Gigs is gonna be about 1.2 Gigs to big to fit on a CD.
