Originally by: Slayton Ford I'd say this bet is null and void. The intention of the bet (I assume) was who would win the fight over FAT. The fact that there was no way for Tyrrax to win the bet should mean the bet is voided.
Ah, finally, a reasonable version of the "LOL HE SHOULDN'T PAY STFU BOB HAXOR" post. Now I can respond.
Basically, Tyrrax (and IAC, -A-, GOON, etc.) had the chance to defend (and then, after we took sov, to take back) FAT- for the last month. This is similar to not paying your alliance bill until the last possible minute, and then getting screwed over by an extended DT. I'm reminded of a rule in (Americans: Soccer, Everyone else: Football) which says that the ref is a part of the field. If the ball hits the ref and enters the goal, it's a goal, same as if it hit a bump in the field before entering the goal. We're all playing on the same server and had equal chance to (re-)take the station. IAC did not do so. Therefore, I win.
--P
The analogy does not work as the game is sill going on when the ball hits the ref.
In the case of the bet with Tyrrax a halt had been made on the game which made it impossible to forfill the rules of the bet. It automatically defaulted as there was no game.
Also in most cases of extended downtime players are either warned in advance or given a good eta on the resumption of normal services. that did not happen in this case.

So, its a foregone conclusion that we would have lost the towers?
He lost the bet, there were no what-ifs involved. You know damn well if the shoe was on the other foot you'd be demanding he'd pay. Drop the partisan **** and acknowledge he won.

No one can know for certain, which would put the bet to null. I simply suggested, giving the circumstances, that a double or nothing bet should be placed on another 30 days. The fact that Pilk hasn't come here and said he'd give TT another thirty days on a double or nothing bet seems to give an indication that he (Pilk) doesn't believe you'd of held the system had the server not gone down.
But hey, it's not my bet.

Hmm, im think is not honest change bet cirmustances. When Plik make bet he dont know about extended DT also Tyrrax dont know that . Damn, u remeber month ago when server have rollback every day. I shoot to that same poses for one week. Shi* happends. Life etc. etc. But i be in Fat before server emergency shut down and i dont see hostile trying kill BoB pos. Most poses going from reinforce before dt, and one soon after dt. Server work to 2 pm. So, for me is simple: Word is word and Bet is Bet. Sorry for my english, is not my native language. Congratz Pilk for winning bet.

You say that he pays you if someone else holds fat and you pay him if he holds. Well, it could be argued that while BoB has sov superiority, they do NOT hold fat. Controlling docking rights at the station != holding the system. Just ask RISE :) So, in that respect, isn't it a wash, at best?
Again, if your confident, offer a double or nothing for another week or two.

Seems you don't have much faith in your Alliance being able to hold FAT for another month either, though I can't say I blame you. MC isn't holding your hand anymore.

Ok, I'm going to just toss in my two cents on my 'man' rules findings on this matter.
The server being shut down because of a hacker is clearly an internet spaceship version of an act of god.
Trying to claim a bet under these circumstances just reeks of desperation.
Offer to up the bet to 1 bil, extend the time frame, and settle the bet. Stop crying about how you won the bet when you clearly didn't.
The purpose of a bet is to settle an issue in a convincing manner, not to lawyer your way into winning it.

From a random nobody that got the jist of the bet and ignored the rest of the thread:
For however long the servers were inaccessible during the bet, the same amount of time should have been added onto the remaining time for the bet when the servers came back up.
Trying to claim you successfully defended the system during a downtime
Trying to claim the bet is completely null and void because of the downtime

Funny, I have not seen a single post from Tyrrax attempting to back out of any bet, all I have seen in the few small hours since the OP is ppl on both sides and alts arguing about it. I would wait for a response from the man himself before laying down accusations against his ehonour ;)

I have no doubt TT would pay the bet, but Pilk should give him the chance to win it back with a double or nothing, given the circumstances.

Why should he? Anyway, would sov have flipped over today even if the Coalition had destroyed all the towers? If not the whole extended DT argument is moot.

Not really. Usually bets of this nature end at the end of the day on the last day. Downtime today would put Sov to neutral had they been destroyed, which happens before the end of the day.
