Thanks Casqade, that's cleared up most of it. It's still far from perfect on the graphics front but I'm sure these teething problems will be resolved soon!

Normal issue for Cedega/Cider. Wine has this fixed.

Same behavior for SimplyMEPIS 6.5, which is based on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.

Dangnabbit, hoped it had been fixed and I was the culprit or rookie if you prefer. Thanks anyways, I'll just have to get used to it then...

The only remaining issue that I could possibly imagine would be that a case-sensitive HDD format somehow screws up the file. That is, everything is OK so long as it is inside the image file, but once it is copied to the HDD the introduction of case-sensitivity interferes with a configuration file somewhere inside the package. Any Mac users here have a case-sensitive format?
My MacBook runs it perfectly. I will say I believe the case-sensitive FS is the root of your problem, as it's the root of quite a few problems.
I can confirm this. The issue arises because the file "info.plist" inside an Application Package has to be called "Info.plist". If not, OS X does not recognize the Application (blaming it to be of the wrong architecture rather than a broken application package - which is irritating ;) ). Fixing this does not fix the problem though - the game starts, but crashes early because it can't find certain DLLs that are asked for in lower-case (although their "real names" are mixed-case). Trying to fix it all is futile.
I fixed this problem by creating a disk image inside a file, formatting it with HFS+ (non-case-sensitive) and mounting it inside my Applications-folder. Works well. If anyone is interested in a step-by-step walkthrough, drop me a line. I would prefer this issue to be fixed, but for the time being - lets hack ;).

Hmm, just noticed I might be out of luck with regard to the packaged Eve, Wine seems to work better than Cedega anyway.

Hello, i'm trying to get EVE client working on my Ubuntu 7.10
I've Inspiron 1520 notebook, with Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS card. I've dual-boot: Vista\Ubuntu on my notebook, trying to get this playing work on Ubuntu, so I'll not have to reboot to Vista anymore.
surprisingly, I've managed to get around prefs.ini file located in my /home/user/.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/settings/ path and finally launch the game.
but: i don't have any sound, the mouse cursor is messed up, and the game graphics are a bit messy too, not the nice textures as rendered on Vista client.
the configuration utility found the Alsa only and did play the test, but if I try to change it in the game: enable sound in the menu, or try to change it in prefs.ini/audio field, the game is stuck.
any advice about fixing the sound\mouse cursor\textures?
here is my prefs.ini file:

The two unsupported function in Trinity are supported? I read the changelog of Wine 0.9.39 and I see:
kernel32: Implement IO completion functions on top of the NT IoCompletion ws2_32: Call the I/O completion routine as a user APC. ntdll: Stub and document IoCompletion APIs. kernel32: Implement IO completion functions on top of the NT IoCompletion API.
So Wine 0.9.39+ seem to have IO Completion support with it. I also read some Async IO also in 0.9.39 but I don't know if this the same thing required for TRINITY.
Wine have a better advance than the Wine fork (Cedega) , Start faster, Less buggy, more stable over the time and truly open source! I won't pay Cedega subscription anymore because all my games work with Wine, unlike Cedega :)

I'm pretty excited about a Linux client. My platform is Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon (7.10) (Machine is here ). I pulled the .DEB and ran the install. Running the client shows the splash screen, then goes to a blank square, and the CPU is pegged.
Screenshot of the wedged startup is here.
I've seen some others mentioning this problem. Any ideas?

the only thing I am having trouble with in the Linux client is minimizing. When I try to alt-tab to get to firefox nothing happens. I also tried to switch workspaces but nothing. does anyone else have this issue? Other than that it runs fine for me. I'll be using the Wine version until I can figure out how to minimize the game. Thx CCP

We've had that glitch for ages under regular cedega. it seems that the more memory constrained you are, the more likely that gfx glitch shows up. It doesn't affect fitting, but is a little bit pita making sure you drop modules in the right spots.
2GB DDR here so memory shouldn't be an issue really.
I have noticed another couple of problems too. In the market history graph there is no information on either axis (no amount or date). Also, when I open the in game browser the game lags severely to around 2 fps.

Never run full-screen. Put Eve in a borderless full-size window and it looks just as good. I disable all desktop shortcuts for the Eve window and shrink the taskbar. And use the taskbar for controlling Eve's window.
