Seriously. Me too. The reaction to the winner though was so sudden and so hostile and vicious.........thank goodness we didn't have social media when Vanessa Williams won. That went badly enough back in the day. |

It just isn't stopping this year:
As the last idea in Hollywood was used up years ago, MGM has decided to just go ahead and do a remake of "Ben-Hur", one of the main old movies that people think of when you say the words "old movie."
And not only are they remaking the thing, guess who they want to direct it.
Ridley Scott?
Tom Hooper?
Kathryn Bigelow?
Nope.
Timur Bekmambetov................
............he guy who directed "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter"
For real and true.
As Ridley is currently filming his own biblical epic "Exodus", expect this to be a 'who can be first' trend ala Abyss/Leviathan/Deep Star 6. |

Even "Gladiator", which is of course a fantastic film, could not revive the Sword and Sandals Genre. Well, maybe "300" qualifies, but that's all of one Sword and Sandals film since 1999. |

For me, "300" and "Sharknado" are about equal. At least they both excellently deliver exactly what was promised.
I guess a good example of where that goes all wrong was Robert Altman's attempt at "Popeye" with Robin Williams. Pretty much a no-brainer, and one would think it can't be screwed up. And then Altman releases a film that is nothing more than 2 solid hours of incomprehensible, bleak depression.
Even the cinematography is ugly. |

also I hit the "Retire" button on FW. You may gain the knowledge, but you will lose your belief, with all its mystery and comfort. If there was proof, absolute and certain, there is an afterlife, why not quit this life, and be done with it? Ponder about these things all your life, and you're a philosopher. Compress these ponderings into a couple of pages, and you'll go mad. |

Explorers had a lot more respect and common courtesy towards each other. After warping in on another player in the site, most would watch a bit, say hi and ask if any help was needed. Afterwards would say good luck / good bye and warp out.
Seems the overall attitude now is 'Screw you, it's mine' with the common practice to barge in, blitz, trigger, cherry pick and or steal the loot whenever possible.
What's even worse is that type of behavior is expected and encouraged by some.
Just the other day I happened to warp in on another player in the first room of a DED 4/10 site. He had already cleared out about half of the NPC's. I watched him for a bit and killed a few NPC's who switched aggro to me, I then turned the wrecks blue and warped out leaving message in local :
Me = Good luck with the site, hope you get a good drop.
The player = Why you leave? Command ship clear site faster then Assault ship.
Me = You were here first, just showing some respect and common courtesy. I can go find other sites.
The player = TY, not many people do that. :)
Me = No problem, was the custom in the past. Maybe you do it to others and help bring back honor to exploration. Cya o7
The player = OK :) o7
Now the question is will that player show the same respect to another? If so, will those players continue to pass on this tradition to others? I certainly hope so.

I've spent a good couple of hours finding nothing but crappy combat sites and wormholes when I finally found a data site. I warp to it and find some one else there. I didn't even bother. I just turned around and went to find something else. I could have uncloaked. I could have ninja'd. I could have launched combat probes at the site to scare them off. But really, what's the point?
I agree. There was more respect for "found it first". Now people who find it first are often in a T3 and camp the unsuspecting until it's too late. |
