Msconfig, boot.ini tab...click the button that says "check all boot paths"
if you have a hal.dll error on reboot...yeah good luck. It can be fixed but its a long one and I am not posting it.
:)
The boot.ini tab will not be there if c:\boot.ini is not present.
Okay then do this.
Boot from your OS cd. and follow the directions to start Recovery Console. Choose the corresponding number asked of you for your OS is on, normally its #1 Then type:
Attrib -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini DEL C:\Boot.ini BootCfg /Rebuild Fixboot

Originally by: Huldradans For most setups that use the primary hard-drive with one single partition and Windows installed at c:\Windows ( you can change that below accordingly ) this ( as posted above ) will work fine for you:
Go to Start, click run and type: notepad C:\boot.ini
Because this has been freshly deleted, it will ask if you would like to create it, obviously click yes.
Now paste the following in to the text file, and save it:
[boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
I'm not sure if this is important, but also do the following, click Start and click Run, then type: attrib +S +H +R c:\boot.ini
Goodluck, hope this helps.
This is good but just may want to do this first, incase your ini differs.
Quote: Save a Backup Copy of Boot.ini 1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. -or- Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK. 2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. 3. Under System Startup, click Edit. This opens the file in Notepad ready for editing. 4. In Notepad, click File on the Menu bar, and then click Save As. 5. Right click in an empty area of the Save As dialog box, point to New in the Context menu, and then click Folder. 6. Type a name for the new folder, for example temp, and then press the ENTER key to create the folder named temp. 7. Double-click the new folder named temp, and then click the Save button to save a backup copy of the Boot.ini file.

Again we get to see how and why CCP devs are the most incompetent in the industry. Maybe they should actually start taking classes on how to actually do programming. So far I've found over 10 bugs in less then one hour in the game and only undocking 3 times LOL. I'd love to see a Dev try to say they have a quality control department. LMAO

Originally by: CCP Zulupark That's the rough idea, yes. We still have in no way started thinking about what modules to introduce, what they would do or anything of the likes, but the idea is that.

CCP, you need to take down your patch now until it gets this fixed. To your average windows user this will kill their computer and they won't know how to fix the problem.

Edited by: DirtyHarry on 06/12/2007 04:38:51 rofl same issue, XP64, how ******* stupid can you be to program "delete /boot.ini" instead of "delete /Program Files/CCP/EVE/boot.ini" into your installer, prepare for a massive influx of whine about this tomorrow when people switch their PCs on after work/school/waking up.
edit: pretty easy issue to solve for the tech savvy, but those who aren't or don't have an XP CD, many lols

This is a good idea...before UK wakes up (sort of). Unless someone can recompile the installer and get it out to mirrors quickly...

Yea....it's the one \ before the boot.ini delete command. if they left it out...would have been fine...but then again, the whole name a file after a system file thingy...
