i'm also running MCE... but it still got popped =s thank god i never turn my laptop off ;)

I had a reply from a Dev (cant find it again doh) that all problems of download have been solved with the patch. I hope you dont mind if I say I am not convinced and I for one am not downloading this patch untill I get some cast iron gurantee that it not going to screw up my oporating system. I share this machine with my wife and children and I could not even think of the grief I would get if I screwed it up - or should say if CCP scrwed it up. So I will be playing other games for some days until this stuff has been solved. I am seriously questioning why I am paying money to a company that could treat it's customers with such lack of care.

I had to restore my PC because of this fiasco. I was unable to read the forums and therefore thought it was a Windows error. Come to find, you guys screwed up. Because of this error on your part, I've lost a lot of data. I can't understand how you guys allowed this major bug to slip by you. Under the EULA, you're not obligated in any way to compensate us for our loss. I, however, hope that you do. And in a creative way, at that.
I apologize if I came off a little rude in the beginning of this. I'm simply venting and you guys make a good target right now.
Again, why save files on the same partition as windows!?
People cry that they lost work... That's your own fault. Never never never save files on the same partition windows is on.
This could also happen with a virus, so be happy that you favourite game helped you out here and protected you for the future.
Here's a good answer: Because not everyone knows everything about computers. Stop being so elitist. ------

the full trinity client didn't have this problem to begin with so you could always download that and install it. boot.ini was a pre-trinity file and was removed in trinity for NFS purposes, so the full client won't bother trying to delete a file on an install that isn't there to begin with.

Ah okay, just checking if it was a precaution you took in case customers modified EVE file attributes.

I have only just read the announcement at 11:30am and i'm at work so I donĘt know if my PC will be affected. Either way CCP should offer some sort of compensation either by giving a free month sup or something in game.
Bloody Noobs!! In my job if we gave a PC build out to a customer with something as Serious as this you can bet that heads would roll and we would have to ensure that our customer was fully compensated for the Inconvenience.
Presumably you don't force your customers to sign an EULA, abstaining you from responsibility.
You're demanding compensation yet you don't know that your PC is affected yet. You're screaming blue murder for noobs, yet they've provided clear instructions on what to do for PC newcomers.
Honestly, I don't venture into official MMO forums very often for very reason that they're full of that kind of post.

CCP this is also karma for nerf batting the crp out of this game. I hope you take a public hit and lose loads of RL money for this. You have constantly fraked this game over the last 2 years and driven loads of ppl away and now you continue to do so.
I hope many get fired for this frak up.
Well i cant believe im saying this but i really think "EA Games" are more favorable these days

if you've got a windows xp disk, try following the instructions in the news post. alternatively, if you don't but have a floppy drive and access to another computer running XP, try this. reinstalling windows is a pain and should always be your last resort; make sure you exhaust all other options, friends, coworkers, etc before taking that icy plunge.

the restore point was 4h before upgrading to premium content. therefore it has to be just right, but there still is no boot.ini... that means, i didnt have any before the upgrade... should i really set up a boot.ini manually now, to be sure??
please? yes or no? btw: before i restored the system, i made a boot.ini myself, like on the ms-support website. after restoring the sys, it was gone...

if you've got nothing better to try: lingorm's hilariously crude solution!
sneak a boot.ini onto your c:\ drive via dos boot disk and have this written in it:
Originally by: Lingorm [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
this should give you a most unholy list of boot options on startup (xp professional?? but I run 2k3!! don't worry, it doesn't actually matter), which you then can proceed to test one by one. don't worry, this won't screw up your computer: if none of these work, you can just delete the boot.ini file off your computer via dos anyway. I'm not sure if this will actually work since I have no experience with RAID systems (I'm lazy and just have JBOD set up), so good luck!

I was thinking even the amusing EPIC fail is not strong enough for this, possibly epic clownshoes fail? I don't know what else to add really, it's just amazing that something this utterly stupid could get out into the wild. Maybe "Puling an eve trinity" should be the newest way to warn folks about a very bad situation?
