Bump
Thought some of you poker players at "Eve Online Hold'em" (chat channel) might enjoy this book i recently read " The Man Behind The Shades " The Stu Ungar story.
Most of the gang at the Dunes knew Stuey Ungar or knew about him. Playing poker regularly with Billy Baxter, Slim, Treetop Straus,Chip Reese, Johnny Moss, was a tough way to break into the fast lane of no limit hold'em . In that murderers row of poker , perhaps no one was more formidable than Dolye"Texas Dolly"Brunson. He had won the World Series in 1976 and 1977.
On a hot spring day in 1978, Stuey traipsed into the deep freeze of the Dunes and was promptly carded by the security officer standing guard outside the pokerroom. Only after being waved in by Johnny Moss was Stuey allowed to enter.
As he approached the no-limit table, the players pretended not to notice him. They didnt want to scare him away by licking their chops.
"Wh-wh-what are you playing?"Stuey asked, stuttering slightly in his excitement. "No limit hold'em" answered a big fellow in western clothes, tipping back his hat to examine his cards more closely. "Siddown, we have a seat for ya,"said another. "I never played no-limit before," Stuey replied honeslty, aware that he was being coaxed into a game and that a remark like this would start a feeding frenzy.
He pulled $20,000 wrapped in a rubber band out of his pocket and plopped down in the empty seat.
Less than 15 minutes later he had to go to his cashbox to get more money. He'd lost the entire twenty grand. When he returned. he played more cautiously, though not timidly. The game went on through the night, into the next day,and then into the next night.Thirty six hours after he sat down, Stuey took a break to get some sleep. He had won back the original $20,000 plus another $27,000.
Its a great read i give it 5stars Stu Ungars life was a real rollercoaster ride
Still looking for New players to come along and play some poker, wether you want to win some isk or just have some fun everyones welcome.

EOH is the oldest, largest, and most reliable poker service ever offered in EVE. Out logging, backups, ISK security, and staff exceed what anyone else has ever done, and is only improving. When I speak of working on new admin tools or code or security features, that is to improve a system that already works very well. And of course anyone with concerns should contact me to see how legitimate their concerns are given our system, so they can knowledgeably decide whether they feel comfortable playing or not.
Also. this thread is for comments and constructive criticism only, trolling of competition or attempts to advertise in others' threads is not allowed on this forum.

Dont need no convo to know where you play, EOH of course!
No wait for chips, except maybe a couple of minutes during the transaction, once the new system is in place using the API feature will be even better. Login takes 20secs to complete the entire form on first registration and is immediate after that. All isk is secured within a corp wallet with extreme limited access. What you forgot to mention was the fact EOH has the biggest playerbase for poker in eve, games being played 24/7 now with the new software, NO OTHER POKER SERVICE CAN COMPETE.

The OP has been updated with new information. Quite a few changes this week.
We have officially closed down Low Stakes Hold'Em and merged them into the main EOH channel. Originally LSH was created to both test out new bankers, and to prevent the spam from a wide range of games from being too cluttered. Now, the Ring system has reduced the need to treat the rooms separately, as well as the EOH GAMES secure announce channel placing the game spam in its own location. At this point we also have a nice number of staff (although the old ones are lazy =D). As for new staff, we have learned enough in the past months to make risk from new hires less of an issue. All in all, I hope this change brings the EOH players closer together, and makes it easier for people to keep track of the service since there are now less channels for both bankers and players.
Also, our auto-deposit feature for Ring chips is now deployed, with information in our IGB Info page. The cashout request feature has been deployed for a while, but I have yet to train all of our senior staff on how to use it, so there should be a nice speedup in response to cashouts in the near future.
As usual, please let us know what we are doing right, and wrong, and ways to improve. And thanks again for playing with EOH folks =D

Ok, the Auto-deposit feature really is quite straightforward once you get over 1st time nerves, if you are still unsure please feel free to ask for help in channel at anytime, 99% of the time a banker will be active and deal with your request immediately, this feature is NOT intended to replace bankers but merely to assist during quiet times.
Right will now try to take you through it step by step as simply as possible.
add the IGB page to your favourites this makes it quicker and easier. ENSURE in the game software(where you actually play poker) that your ingame name matches your poker name, if not then where you place your "real name" this should be your eve ingame name.(more for cashout than deposits but still important.
You then want to be heading to http://cashout.eveonlineholdem.com/ and login with your poker login details.
when logged in you will be greeted with a few options on the left, click on auto-deposit where you will be directed to a page containing your player id this is unique to you and will be a 32 digit binary code of random letters and numbers, highlight it, right click and copy.
Go back into eve right click on EOH DEPOSIT character and "give money" enter the amount you wish to deposit paste your player ID (the code you copied) into the reason box and click send.
Thats it, please bear in mind that the API updates once per hour though and dependant on exactly when you do this may take 30secs or the hour to update.
This may look daunting and sound complicated but once you have done it the first time you will realise just how easy and quick it is.
Good luck and see you on the tables.

We had a little downtime tonight due to a bug in the latest Mavens beta, so I guess we'll be keeping the bughunting busy =P
In other news, the new Beta patch to Mavens now allows "Rathole Minutes", which is the amount of time after leaving a table that you can come back with less chips than you left with. We have set all of our tables to 30 minutes, as this has been a concern of several players in the past. |

I still prefer the non-browser client to the browser one, but maybe that's just because I was more used to it.
One thing I do miss, though, are the low-stakes games. I'm not as rich as other players, so I can't afford to drop 20m every time I want to play a little poker.

While 17m is the lowest commonly announced game, we do have both low-stakes Ring tables which you can buy into for as little as 2m (2-20m buyin range), and the new automated low-stakes tourneys and 1v1 tables for 2m, 5m, and 10m amounts, all using Ring chips. The auto-tables are pretty new and need to be advertised more to see high use. If it's something that interests you then try and round up people to play on them or give us ideas on how to make their existence more well known. =)

Well. I haven't yet posted in the forum thread. Let me first off say, that I reccomend this to anyone who enjoys Texas Hold Em. I have found EOH and staff to be nothing more than completely honest, with no problems at all in transactions with bankers or the cashouts i've done so far. If anyone is worried about trying to cash out large amounts of ISK, my last one was 2.6 Billion and it went thru with no problems! So, I encourage everyone to come and join us :D
As for the automated tourneys/HU Selene, I think you may see more use with adding higher staked ones. When they were first dded, there was a 200 Mil Auto HU, and I immediately went to using it a couple times with some other peeps, then came on later that night only to see it gone. :(
From my pov, you have to measure the use of auto-tourney's, against time invested vs payout, in comparison to what can be done on ring tables. ;) I personally would like to see 100, 150, and 200 Million Auto 10 man Tourneys, and 250, 500, 750, and 1 Billion HU Auto Tourney's ^.^
One feature I would like to see, is perhaps a functionality of the banker ran tournies being able to use chips instead of in game ISK, they may help ressurect the tourney front for others also.
But, I love the service. So again, I recommend it too anyone who likes poker and making ISK. Great people, great players, and fun times.

I want to second Nack's suggestion for some high stakes heads up tables.
I have only played the ring tables. Oddly, there seems to be a large gap in the amount people are playing for. The low stakes tables may be getting the most action, but the very high stakes table is also used a great deal. The high stakes tables are not used much at all. I'd like to see another very high stakes ring table, but with only 6 seats. And perhaps even a very high stakes heads up ring table (heads up tournies can turn brutally long when your held hostage by a very tight player). I imagine a couple new very high stakes tables would get more action then the high stakes tables are getting. Perhaps it is even time for a 50/100 blinds table.
Overall, I've found the service great. There are some very good players and the games are fair. The only complaint I have is with regards to the ring game rake. 10% is high.

Thanks guys! For high-stake 1v1s I may yet automate them, but primarily there are two reasons I have abstained: 1) bankers need something to do or they have no reason to be employed and 2) such things encourage money staying in the system, which is bad for business. What we really need are rakes/game, but the Mavens guy isn't very fond of providing us with that option. Find me a solution for this issue and I'll probably jump at it. This leads into:
Originally by: Joe Space

This is somewhat related to the above. I provide a service based on trust (which is not an easy thing to find in EVE), as well as having to pay employees, hosting, coding, and hedging against mistakes by bankers, players stealing due to technical errors in Mavens, and stealing from (ex-)employees -- so I find the current rates to be quite fair. No one has yet been able to take away a noticeable amount of business, despite plenty of cheap alternatives popping up and disappearing in these forums all of the time. There is a lot to be said for providing a stable service that has only grown and improved as time progresses. By no means do I have a problem with other services (unless they happen to harass us or our customers), and I would find it quite interesting if someone could find a way to provide a service that provided things we do not or cannot, but are similar (I have no real interest in blackjack, but many people express interest, and such a service would probably grow the EVE betting community by a bunch, if run properly and by the right people).
Of course, this doesn't mean the status quo lasts forever. We have completely changes rakes, payouts, and hell even the software during our long history. I say that to make sure you know I still appreciate the comment, I'd never know if such things bother a lot of customers unless people speak up. Just remember that you are paying for something that is fairly rare in EVE. =)

I just saw this today and wanted to respond. Similar to the above, I've not incorporated this primarily because I have already had a heavy drop in staff activity when we switched to Ring as their time working wasn't worth as much. Also, an important part of the service to me IS the human element -- bankers announcing games. If all bankers were nothing more than Ring depositors, I might as well just leave the entire service on auto and fire everyone, no? And that's really not the path I want to go down. Ideas to work around this are more than welcome, of course.

EDIT: Btw, forgot to mention I love the new Rathole prevention feature
I haven't heard from anyone else about this feature, I assume this has been an improvement to everyone's Ring experiences?

I understand about Bankers needing a job. Would it at least be plausible to ask Twizzle if a feature could be coded in that would allow a banker to use chips instead of needing ISK to run a tourney? At least for things such as people wanting high stakes HU?
That way Bankers would still have a job and those of us not on a cash out could still do tourneys.

We might be able to do that, but it doesn't help the underlying problem. It would be unfair to tax ring chips again if used in DTs, but the income from those DTs is the primary income of most bankers (pardoning the couple that do most of the deposits and cashouts). And giving all bankers access to everything is a huge security risk, even with our precautions. We've already taken a couple of decent hits this summer (which I have covered). So it's about balancing ease-of-use and fair charges to players, while keeping income incentives to bankers high enough so that it's worth their time, and then balancing all of that against risk of theft. Sadly I do not have a solution that makes me perfectly happy yet.
Edit: If people think being charged again on Ring chips used in tourneys is fair, that is fine, but I certainly wouldn't find that very appealing.

yes i remember not so long ago another poker attempt which charged rake on everyhand played. I believe this is how it is done in the professional online poker sites although i have never partaked (terrible at poker and know i would lose too much). However this proved to be a very unpopular way with players who also had not played online before mainly due to the fact you didnt know how much rake you were actually paying, so although that would be a solution to all the above i would fear the reaper.
