So, it's because I wanted to be Achura for the attributes... but have you seen male Achura. 
I didn't realize at the time that I could minimize my character on screen, and only look at the face on the forums.

Ed: But no, I have no particular desire to change my character's sex to male or whatever. I don't really regret making "her" female. It's not like people are trying to gender swap in the days of Ventrilo.

Well ive always chosen characters that look "kinda" like me, so ive always had male avatars, in UO, Linege II etc in the past, im definitly in the "my main is me" crowd.
Not that there is anything wrong with having a female character... my alt is..., but thats cuz its easier to dupe carebears into traps with a pretty female character... mwhahahaha... ahem... im evil...

Don't give me the lame excuse of I don't want to stare at a guy's face or it doesn't matter. When you choose a character's sex it's permanent. You can't change the sex character or even the name.

Staring at a guys face may be a lame excuse, but it's the reason I made my first char as a female. At this point though I do have 2 male and 2 female chars.

And RP wise, it makes more sense to me to be female. I'd like to call myself a corporate b*tch, something i started to do when I was one of the leading producers in another MMO (which is dead now).
The role I play as female makes it possible for me to actually get things done, which would be really, really hard as male character. Don't ask why, I just feel it that way.
People judging others on doing this just take the Internet serious; and that's plain stupid. I'm not trying to convince 15 year old girls that I'm a girl looking for friendship, i'm playing a game where I can be the b*tch I love to play.

I've got 2 accounts and 6 characters. For each one I was offered my pick of two portraits and I chose the one that looked coolest to me. The dude version of Quelque Chose was kind of lackluster and I like the smirk on this one. It's as simple as that really, if you're dealing with people you meet in video games based on what the polygons look like you're doing it all wrong IMO. I usually get a good chuckle when the subject comes up though.
My other female character is Achura, see above. :p

We had a grand total of 3 (allegedly) female-owned characters in our corp.
Two of them had female avatars, one had a male avatar.
None of them are active accounts right now... they just didn't like the game all that much after a while.
I'm sure there's a small handfull of female players out there, but chances are a vast majority of "female" avatars out there are controlled by males.
MAYBE, just maybe, after ambulation, we might just get a bit more actual females to stick around.

What "worries" me more is the female chars who actually keep insisting they are female but oddly enough always have "soundcard problems" or "no microphone" so they can't come on vent/TS...
Not that I care if someone is female or not, but they obviously do.

Sheri Graner Ray author of "Gender Inclusive Game Design", states that males are much more comfortable with creating an avatar of the opposite sex. Females do this to a lesser extent. Why? Read the book...

i have characters from both sexes.
in DAoC i chose females as sneaky characters... and tanks + healers has male :=)
no clue why but thats how i did it :)
in eve i have 2 males and 2 females.
males are gallente and minmatar
females are caldari and amarr
i see chosing sex like chosing a race/class/whatever in a game.

When i started EVE, i had 1 charachter with a Male name, but female sex, that was just so i dont have to stare into a male face that isnt mine, Also i read an article that you are less likely to roleplay if the sex doesnt match.
So, I crerated Roxanna kell as well, since m first char was more into mining and such.
After 2 years i sold my Main and was left with the female Roxanna kell.
Thats the story, not ashamed of it at all.
So if you thing you got bigger balls cause you got a male char, bite me. I know chicks with male chars as well.

Many many moons ago in the begining of some MMORPG`s female chars got better stats than the male counterparts. I think it stems back from that and i am going way way back to other games when online gaming was something new and exiting.
I know this is not the senario in eve but i think it is just that many old time MMORPG`ers remember this and still do it because they rememebr this.

I have two mains which are male. Yeah, that probably sounds odd about having two mains, but one is a lawful good industry guy and one is mainly for combat and is chaotic evil. 
I have 3 female alts that I use for a variety of tasks. I like to think of them as my girls, and I like looking at their attractive faces. Can't wait for ambulation when I can look at more.

Usually in MMOs I tend to use female characters, simply for the reason that when grinding away levels for hours and all you see is your char and the mobs, I'd rather have something nice to look at. Not some ***** "Look at me and my 18 charisma!" or some ugly "Ongrot smash mobs! Ongrot grabs loot! Ongrot level!".
But here in EvE.. meh, I didn't really care. My trade alt, that gets used once per year or so is female. Dunno why.

edit3: And yeah, in other MMOs, chances for receiving help and vast riches when you start out are higher when you've got a female avatar. I see no problem in exploiting people that haven't learned the rule "every teenage girl on the internet is a sweaty 40 year old".

Well since FF11 if i have to look at male toons full body i go female if you ever seen the elvaan male in FF11 you wound understand why.
If its just the face like in EVE i pick what ever face suits the role of that toon like my face looks like a tough fighter and thats all TB is used for fighting fight and more fighting.
