In real life, kinetic energy penetrators require a direct hit in order to damage or destroy a target, although a fragmentation bomb could deal some damage in a proximity blast. The only explosive warhead with a hint of vaccume-effectiveness would be a squash-head plastic explosive and this requires a direct hit. EM warheads could damage a target with a proximity blast as I imagine an EM blast could distrubute substantial photons or a very strong EM field radially, but something like a HEAT round would probably far effective at delevering a destructive payload of plasma and this also requires a direct hit. Only a thermal warhead could substantially damaging without a direct hit, as it could transfer it's heat via radiation.
Explosion radii are really just fantasy in general. There is no fluid to propagate explosions in a vaccume and you are using fields or radiation to destroy a target that damage decreases with a cubic function in relationship to the distance between the target and the blast, not an all-damage or no-damaget distance like "300m".
Interesting thoughts; however, in vacuum reactions still do take place provided that material is provided for the reaction to take place. You may be correct in terms of a combustion reaction however and fusion reactions can still take place. These would still would react within the given radius of whatever fuel is provided. It may be rather inefficient seeing as the fuel would be consumed nearly instantly but it could be considered a plausable tactic. Antimatter would probably be your best bet when looking at damaging just about anything . The vacuum of space would stop a large reaction from taking place; however a direct hit to a ship would be catastrophic. But again we trade off some physics and quantum mechanics for better playability. Although your many of your theories are correct. This is why in most scifi games and movies lasers tend to be highly effective do to their em and thermic properties. |

With missile nerfing rendering Caldari pretty much useless I'll find it hard to re-open my wallet on the 23rd of November when my account expires and once again renew my subscription. Maybe CCP is doing me a favour after all? There are hundreds, actually thousands, of other games out there that I can play if I manage to break the spell of EVE and be "free" again. I couldn't do that alone but I think CCP just helped me quit EVE Online for good. My fiance salutes CCP for that, "daddy" is coming home again honey. As for me, I'm still a bit grumpy but time heals all wounds and I'll soon find something else. Thanks CCP! I couldn't have done it without your help, and definately not without Quantum Rise. |

I am experiancing a slow build up of lag while playing. I have no lag when i first log on. Then after about 30 min of playing the lag becomes quite severe. At this point between 30 and 60 min of being logged on I must relog. Upon reloging the lag is compleatly gone. This lasts for another 30 min or so, then I have to repeat the previously mentioned process. It appears the memory cashe is not clearing itself out or somthing to that effect. Everyone else i have talked to in game are experiencing the same or simmilar problems.
When can we expect a fix for this client bug/issue? This bug is expecially troublesome during fleet operations. This bug sucks so the quicker the fix the better.
thx in advance J BOW

Why is 5000 m/s (or whatever the number is) laughable? Why is 7500 m/s not laughable? Its just a number....
All that matters is that the maximum speed of the different ship types makes sense when compared against the attributes of modules. Web range is a paltry 13000 m (incl. overheating), scrambler range about the same. Once out of that range, MWD'll carry you away as long as you're smaller than your opponent. However, before the speed-nerf, a nano-fitted pilot would be out of range BEFORE you could even lock him. That was a crucial (and far too great) advantage, and the invulnerability to most/all weapon types just made it worse.
After the nerf, we have small ships able to catch bigger ships. This is a pretty decent game mechanic as it means there's a place for small ships once again. I've also noticed that the complaints about the nano-nerf has virtually disappeared (apart from yours), and personally I find that 0.0 roaming is now much more viable than before, since you can actually use range in your tactics now (which you couldn't before because of 20+ km/s vagas/'ceptors). Sure, you can lose your roaming ship now, but that's as it should be!
Your first post sounded like a typical nano-pilot-i-want-my-iwin-button-back-whine. If you post things like that, expect to be called out on it....

Originally by: Kerfira Yeah, it's no wonder. People have always been better at quitting when faced with actually having to think to get something...
You see, you had this large amount of players who bothered no one, payed their monthly fees, and had fun in a game they liked.
You are of cause incorrect in them bothering no one....
Missions being too easy for missile users meant that too much ISK were flowing into the game. This is a BAD thing! It also meant that the player experience is shortened, ie. you reach the 'end-game' too soon, depriving the game of income. Another very bad thing. You can not separate the PvE and PvP world. EVE is one world. Missiles have been WAY too good for missions for a long while, and needed a nerf to keep other ships viable. Speed has been WAY too good in PvP for a while and needed a nerf for the same reason, but missiles would be too good then, so had to be reduced in capabilities too.
If you read the forums closely, you'll not find many others than low-skilled mission runners complaining (ie. the people who were previously abusing broken missiles). Mission runners with proper skills can still run missions as fast as before. PvP is (imho) greatly improved as range once again means something (ie. is a factor in tactics again).
As for people quitting, that happens all the time and is not a great disaster. You know that the average age of an EVE player when he quits is around 7 months? A small short-term dip in subscriber numbers is a small price to pay for a balanced game. Read my sig for more info on the nature of EVE. This may make you understand....

Edited by: Blackmarketbaby on 19/11/2008 12:40:39 Edited by: Blackmarketbaby on 19/11/2008 12:38:41 Certificates are completely useless - except for confusing new players and (hopefully?) make them useless.
1) Make a new role for members of a corporation to make certificates for it's corporation 2) Make a new role for members of a corporation to view other members certificates 3) Make certificates viewable to corporation, alliance and/or specific individuals (for purpose of recruitment) 4) Make an option to filter corporations to join by certificates you have (as with skill points) 5) Stop pretending like you know how the game is played (either you define things by mechanics, and that's it, or you simply don't)
...or just remove them for the sake of new players. As it is you are actually to some extent trying to tell players how to train their skills - which absolutely nullifies the greatness of your skill-system as it is.

Hey there! Yes, this point is one I'd undoubtly agree with, however, check this out: The Eve economy was already used to that! :) Kind of molded to it, if you get what I'm saying, and I'd expect some changes if the way money flows into the market alters in some way or another. Lotsa factors involved: Cause some consequences might not be bad: Less currency = lower prices, BUT, also: less missions = less recycling, less named loot = higher prices on those.
Anyway, you know, I do believe at the same time that these economical changes won't be a make-or-break thing. The only problem I see is that I wouldn't have fixed something that wasn't broken.

Edited by: Gus Gallente on 19/11/2008 21:20:09 I'd like to add more feedback on "Alluring Emanations" a new mission released with Quantum Rise.
Whoever designed this mission wasn't really earning their paycheck. In fact, they weren't really earning our respect, either. The mission's main drone deals out no damage. There is one trigger event, which is the destruction of said damageless drone. This triggers about 42 more damageless drones. None of said damageless drones drop any loot, or yield any salvage whatsoever.
Like a metaphor for Quantum Rise, "Alluring Emanations" is full of nothing but fail.
In retrospect, it appears to be filler content, to prevent people from getting "good" missions as often as they used to. Just like Quantum rise introduced a host of new features to prevent people from having fun like they used to (gigantic gates at choke points, nano nerf, ghost training "bug fix", stackless i/o (which apparently is made of fail and was deployed pre-patch), eve64 (which apparently is made of fail and was deployed pre-patch), walking in stations (lol, j/k on that one).

Since the release of Quantum Rise we have been getting reports from players about client performance. We have been reading those reports, analysing the scenarios, testing and reviewing code since the release. We now have a couple of fixes ready and a few more in the pipes, which we think may address the problems you are describing, and we want your help in testing them on Singularity. Please read this thread for more information; CCP Tanis. is organising the testing effort.

I'm nearing 6 mo of play date. Been through 3 major changes since starting to play. This is by far the worse I've experienced. This one sucks. Everything is broken, except for pretty stargates, everything is screwed up. Lag even while sitting in station attempting to produce is horrid, and getting worse.
Attempt to "balance" the game failed - again. CCP is so busy attempting to control their idea of a "balanced" game they unbalance it every upgrade. They are hell bent on forcing everyone to play the game the way CCP wants it played instead of allowing enjoyment to reign.
It'd be nice to roll back to something that worked, remove this patch / new direction for the game. The graphic are nice but not worth killing a game over.

Whats been done to the Battleship speed? Yesterday, it was fine, but now my Hyperion bearly goes above 50! Even with my afterburner on, im lucky to hit 110. I've only just managed to get it to the point where i can do level 4's, and have tech 2 guns, but with this speed reduction, its impossible for me to keep my distance. I tried putting two web-drones on them, and i still couldnt outrun the enemy battleships!
This is extremely annoying! --------------------------------- And so it begins |

The patch supposed to fix the memory leak from the previous patch didn't work. The game slows down from 70 to 15 fps as soon as I jump through a stargate, exactly as before patch. Jump again and 15fps becomes 8 and then 4 and so on. And even worse, CCP ain't even answering filed bugreports anylonger, I filed mine on 13th Nov and is still waiting for CCP to answer. This is exactly the stuff that can kill a game. I'm outta here.

Yeah I've got to agree with him. The patch that was supposed to fix the lag only brought it back to the pre QR lagfest.
It does get pretty severe when the game gets choppy for ten seconds, freeze lags for 20, and repeats. Sometimes restarting the game doesn't remedy this problem.
I've done almost every imaginable thing to quell the lag that could be caused on my end. It's not my PC or internet connection. It's on CCPs end. ___________________________________________________ The Escapist: EvE Online video review. |

Re: Harvesting Comptroller.
As somebody said upthread, CCP can, like Humpty Dumpty, define "comptroller" however they like. But the common modern English (British or American) meaning has more to do with accounting than with running a mining operation. "Controller" is more appropriate. "Foreman" even more so. (Yes I know that word was used in "Refinery Foreman". So what?)
On another note, I like the cert idea. I think it needs work. I do not think it's "useless" or "broken". I do think it's silly to describe it with those words.
