Good evening,
As a small christmas surprise (unless you have been in the 'OS X' channel), I am announcing my project to get something like EVEMon written for the Mac OS. This is just an alpha release, and skill planning is _not_ currently available (But I am working on it), but I wanted to be able to show something for christmas.
It's just a beginning unfortunatly, but I am working on it and it goes forward quite well.
Pictures > http://ceres.doesntexist.org/ Binary > http://ceres.doesntexist.org/bin/ Source > http://ceres.doesntexist.org/src/
You can add API-Keys from the debug menu, but somehow copy/paste got messed up, so you have to right click and select paste. But if anything is unclear, just ask.
It probably only works on Leopard unfortunatly, since it is written in Obj-C 2.0, and requires the garbage collector.
Ps. It does "Phone home" to download the datadump, it is downloading 2 files, http://ceres.doesntexist.org/xml/Clones.xml and http://ceres.doesntexist.org/xml/Skills.xml. But I don't keep any statistics or anything, so if you try it please leave a message here with some ideas or thoughts, maybe ask for some feature to be implemented.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Wonderful, I didn't know you used a Mac either Srg Hedge.
And I thanks Phronesiis, I'll start adding some more features and fixing some bugs soon.
Known bugs. If you don't have an internet connection, the server status lists as 0 people. If you put your computer to sleep, updates stop. You can't paste in the API-menu thingy.

Edited by: Aurora Morgan on 26/12/2008 23:29:18 Thanks,
I'll try to have a new release up for grabs sometime soon. A lot of stuff to be done around now unfortunately.
I have some more stuff working, including skill rank, attributes. Next thing will be to list what skills a character has. And count the amount of SP it has.
Ps. I want a proper portrait...

Despite being on Tiger, and having tested the binary to the effect of crash, I'm pleased with this development, and when snowleopard hits, I'll be glad to stop training random skills. Parallels got to be too fat for my HDD, and a native option is always better.

Aurora, looks great!
I've been using a Mac for years, but I ended up getting a PC just to play EVE before they released the Mac version. I'll be so happy to get rid of my PC dependency completely once this is a full release.
Let me know if you need help, etc... I'm a programmer myself and will definitely be using it, poking around and look forward to updates!
Once again, awesome work!

What I would do is create a BootCamp partition and use VMWare Fusion. Fusion can actually boot your BootCamp partition as if it were a virtual machine, so you won't have the same space creep issues as the limit is set - plus you can reboot and use Premium once in a while when your desire for teh shiney overwhelms. :)

Mainly so I can export data directly from Sequel Pro and not have to write lots of sed.

A little later than expected, but both the hosting and a new version is ready.
The only feature that shows is that it now takes at least 3 minutes on first startup (It will look like it has crashed / is unresponsive), that is due to it now recreates a large part of the datadump on your computer. That shouldn't be so slow in a real database, but since I am using the XML Core Data backend... well... it get's really slow.
I'll probably change to the SQLite backend when all the data is in place and working.
Binary > http://ceres.doesntexist.org/bin/ Source > http://ceres.doesntexist.org/src/
It downloads some additional xml, you can check the xml directory on the server to find what it downloads. You can also find the SQL that generated the xml files there.

Edited by: Aurora Morgan on 12/01/2009 01:49:31 A new version is available (0.0.3) and it should be a lot snappier(tm).
Also features larger portraits and Cmd-C works!
(Code is a bit ugly in the loading classes, sorry.)
http://Ceres.doesntexist.org/bin as usual!
Ps. If someone adds a character too much or it just fails to load the data for one reason or another remove "~/Library/Application Support/Ceres/Ceres 0.0.3.sqlite3".

YANW! (Yet another new version)
Good! 1. Almost a brand new interface. 2. You can remove characters that pollute the new goodness (Right click is a good tip).
Bad! 1. The new interface looks almost as bad as the old one. 2. I haven't really tested this to my usual standards. |

Edited by: Stick Cult on 19/01/2009 00:50:29 I'm going to try 0.0.5 now, but on 0.0.4, it says I'm training the wrong skill. At the time I started it I was training a skill, then mid training I switched, but ceres still says I'm training the old one. Seems like it's just a simple thing of not refreshing itself, but I don't know obj-c...
edit: In fact, 0.0.5 crashes when I try and launch it. I think it started the the load it does when it first starts, but then it crashes and the dialog comes up saying it quit unexpectedly.. |

No idea why, but it sounds like the load failed to finish correctly.
Can you try to remove all files in ~/Library/Application Support/Ceres/ ?
I am going to look into the fragility of the loader. |

Thanks to you for trying it.
Sorry, Stick Cult, I couldn't replicate the problem with skill training. Could you be more precise when it happened, did you by any chance start the program, go into sleep mode and then change skill?
(Going into sleep mode kills the updating code for some reason.)

Edited by: Stick Cult on 19/01/2009 15:11:29 I opened it and added in my api info, and it said I was training the right skill. I went into eve for a few hours, changed my skill during that time... It said I was still training my old skill, and still said it a few hours later.. It probably did go into sleep mode before I went into eve, but it still did that every time I ran the program, even a day later.
edit: And deleting files from ~/Library/Application Support/Ceres worked, 0.0.5 works now. |

excellent start. Literally just installed it, and the first issues that come to mind are:
1. It adds all the characters on an account, that's just annoying. 2. Stick a link to the api key page on that Add API Key page, it's a pain to look it up (I actually ended up opening evemon just to find it lol).
Does it alert you when a skill finishes? If it's possible to add skill finishing times to iCal (which in turn will sync with the iPhone ofc) then that's a route you might want to consider, it would allow you a lot of flexibility with how the alerts are treated (email, visual, audio, etc etc).
Very much looking forward to future versions, keep up the great work! |

Looks like a great start from the screenshots. I installed .5 and it hangs at 'loading data (0/5 files downloaded)' so I attempted to switch back to .4 and have the same results. No errors in either case and still seems responsive - however I left it sit for a significant amount of time, an hour or two, and it never budged. I also deleted the sqlite3 file to no avail. Perhaps I'll delve your code a bit and see where it's trying to look. |

Edited by: Aurora Morgan on 25/01/2009 12:11:43 Only thing I can think of is that you're running Tiger (I haven't found a way to make it fail gracefully yet.)
If that is not the case, could you send the entries from the console log? They might include something useful.
And if you have XCode installed (as implied), then you could try to compile the latest version yourself, that might give some more information.
Mental note to self: Ship with debug symbols so these errors include some more information. |

Almost everyone can do what is probably *the* most important part, testing. Or maybe the other important (but for me a lot harder) thing, having good/bad/awesome/sucky ideas. Anything goes, it just might take a while for it to get implemented, but I promise to read and reflect on any idea.
If anyone manages to crash it in any way, then it would be awesome if you could send me the relevant files in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter (Anything with Ceres in it's name) and if you know a way to reproduce it, that would help a lot too. |

0.0.6, 6 might not be a prime... but it's the number of the new version!
Growl support! Calculates skillpoints, quite accurately too. (More accurate than EVE at least, which is good enough for now.) Requires leopard (Now gives a cryptic message instead of just a core dump, I think...) Sends events for various reasons, doesn't really affect anything visible, but I wanted to add it to the list.
And I lost the list of other things, but it is probably a bit better in several ways...

Wonderful,
I'll check into why the skill change mechanics works for me but not for some others. (It takes around 15 minutes to change, due to CCP:s cache timer)
About the database, yes. If you remove it, then all the API info is gone (via design, since it keeps all data focused, and allows a quick reset if something goes wrong.)
But you shouldn't have to touch it unless there is a bug that corrupts the data really, but we'll have to wait a bit before I say Ceres is free from those.
Edit: If someone can't generate a database for any reason, but want to test anyhow. Download a pre-generated database from http://Ceres.doesntexist.org/db and drop it in ~/Library/Application Support/Ceres |

Fixed (a few) bugs. Learning skills now counts for attributes. Sparkle auto-updater. (I hope it works too...) Double click on a character now opens the info window. The API window opens on load (if there are no characters).

No, you shouldn't. But it sounds like Ceres for some reason can't connect to download the datafiles.
One other person had the same problem, but I don't really know how to fix it yet. I will try to think about it, since it sounds like a bug...
You don't happen to use a firewall like little snitch or anything similar by any chance?

Ok, that's where I guessed.
It probably won't work (Since you still need to connect to the CCP servers, and that uses the same code), but you can download a database from http://Ceres.doesntexist.org/db and put it in ~/Library/Application Support/Ceres
About wget, that won't be any difference (and wget isn't included in OS X, but the same argument works for curl). Both use http, the difference is that NSURLConnection (the method I use) respects OS X settings for proxies and also allows for more control, and has an Objective C API. |

Edit: Spelling
I have to admit I come from a Linux background so I don't know a lot about objective C or OS X specific stuff, but for me Apple dropping wget from 10.5 was a silly silly decision, the syntax of curl is just blarrgh, I use wget in so many old scripts and stuff that I added it to OS X, a lot of other people I know did the same (or made an alias to curl -O).
I wrote a very basic skill tracker program using GTK perl a while ago so I know the pain your going through, at least now I think CCP's api is somewhat documented.
When I get some more time, (hopefully tonight) I'll take a look at the source see if I can sort out why the connection is screwing up.

Yes, it's quite odd that they removed wget (even though I prefer curl. But it's not like it's eating up much space or anything.) I come from a unix/linux background myself and tend to have a few scripts lying around doing these kinds of things.
The callstack implies that it can't find the version of the database ([Ceres version] is only one line, so the full dump shouldn't be necissary), which I guess means that the database isn't portable between computers (I have no idea why, really, a design decision of Apple's?).
I really appreciate you testing this, because I was thinking of distributing the database with the application to remove the necessity of downloading all the xml files.
The sqlite database includes a bit of binary metadata (in the table Z_Metadata) and I guess that is the cause of this problem.
I am going to look through the downloading code this afternoon, because something must be mildly odd with it...

I've been looking over it and it's your server permissions I'm pretty sure. I noticed the Ceres 0.0.7.sqlite3 file was listed as being 200 kb+ on your site but the verion I had downloaded (both trough firefox and curl) was only 4 bytes. Out of curiosity I tried the old binary version (0.06) and it worked fine. I tried to open (as opposed to right click save link as) the 0.07 db file (http://ceres.doesntexist.org/db/Ceres 0.0.7.sqlite3) and I got a 403 permission denied error (didn't get this on the 0.0.6 db, just tested) so I think a simple chmod on the 0.07 files will fix all the issues people are having.

Rumour goes that Chuck Norris owns a Mac, plays EVE and thoroughly endorses this client.
Also, it's a great piece of software ... although it may not have the full functionality of EVEMon just yet, Aurora is constantly listening to the comments and criticisms of the client in the OS X channel in-game. With near daily updates, there's no reason not to download Ceres!

About the iPhone port, sorry,
But the problem is that iPhone doesn't support neither Core Data nor Garbage Collection right now. So unfortunatly would porting it would be about as hard as writing something from scratch.
But when Apple ports Core Data and updates the ObjC runtime on the iPhone, then it would just be the case of writing a new UI. |

But I don't know what caused the error, might have been a problem with the webserver. There was some power failures yesterday, and the timing might have been perfect.

Nope,
I wouldn't hold my breath either, but it's definatly a possibility considering it's "the" persistence framework on OS X and there are no real technical problems doing it.
The garbage collector might be tougher actually, since there would be memory usage implications.

Hi Aurora !
I just tested the 0.0.8.4 release, it works really fine for me. You're doing an amazing job here, thanks a lot!
One suggestion though: the skill list under the character pannel is really nice, but it would gain in clarity if the skills were organized by sections (Corp management, Drones, and so on), with the option to deploy/hide a whole section in one click.
Keep up the good work, the whole mac community is behind you!

This is mainly a bug fix/performance release, but it shows SP/hour and you can now close windows with command - w.

I had 0.0.6 installed then upgraded to 0.0.9 today. I used app-zapper to remove the 0.0.6 installation first, and it removed the app, also application suppurt\ceres.
After running 0.0.9, I import my charachters, but every time I quit, it loses the information and I have to re-enter my API key again every time I launch the application.
It's also not updating my currently training skill or my skills list. Is there something in another place that I need to remove? |

Not sure if this one is a feature or a bug.
When removing a character from the main list, with that characters window open, all it does is remove the number of "SP" from the character window.
Should it close the window as the character is no longer listed?

Looks like you replied to my previous post before I edited it, so I'll paste the edit in here too:
Also, should the API window close once the characters have been successfully added? Currently it just sits open and there's no "close" button (except for the red window one).
Another thing, if I hit "add" again with the same API key, it just adds the same 3 characters again. Perhaps a check on existing characters to stop duplicates?

The not closing is a feature (or at least I think so), since it helps when adding more than one account.
Duplicate checking is a good thing to add, yes.

Could you try to right click on your character, and select invalidate cache?
Or if that doesn't work, delete the database. It might have been corrupted by the buggy version.

Invalidating cache did nothing.
Deleting the database fixed the problem ^^
I've poked and prodded just about everything I can for this release. Looking forward to the next one.
Finally - display of skills on charachter sheet isn't aesthetically pleasing at the moment. Too much wasted/white space. I feel like some of the skill info should be right-aligned. |

This is getting better every day! Keep up the great work.
Just a matter of time before you start adding skill planner type stuff, eh?

Time, yes.
While it's probably an illusion (Especially lunch time), it seems to be a necessary component in software development unfortunatly.
But I am working on it, might take a while before it is ready though.

This first two-digits release is great! Thanks a lot for the skill grouping...
Now what I'd like to see (if not to much trouble) is the time remaining before the current skill is complete ("8 min 45 sec" or "12 days 4 hours 23 min" for example)... Preferably written near the character names on the main screen, and big enough to be seen rapidly... The end date is an important information, but I find the remaining time more useful, especially for short skills!
Anyway, keep up the good work, your progresses are astonishing... And by the way, are you planning something to deal with the skill queue coming soon?

I am adding an option for it (replacing the completion date) in the next release, probably as default.

No idea actually, anyone knows if this is going to have any implications for the api? It might just appear as if the player swapped the skill manually...
Those who live on march 10th will see I guess...
I plan to have an apochribba (can anyone remember how it's spelled, honestly..?) release ready as soon as there is a datadump.

I was also thinking about asking for something to do with the skill queue, but then I couldn't really think of what would be useful in the skill planner..
Perhaps you could build some logic where you say "I can only log in once every x days" and the skill planner designs your plan so that you can queue up your skills each time and lose the least amount of training time.

Hm... I was right then... odd, I tend to spell bad. ;)
So does Apochribba add some mining related bonuses on the revelation..? Hm... but does it really matter in the end, *everybody* loves the Veldnought. Bonus or no bonus.

Edited by: Aurora Morgan on 17/02/2009 13:09:58 Sorry to bring the thread on topic again, but 0.0.11 just got released.
New awesome features include.
Fixed a bug causing multiple notifications for skill training completed. Shows rank in skill list. Loader now uses (Processors + 1) threads instead of 2. Now sure all core data calls are from the main thread. Fix bug when training the same skill twice in a row. Group cells in the skill list now shows skillpoints and amount of skills. Fixed some skill level issues. Preferences Window. Skill training format option (Absolute / Relative). Skill level format option (Roman / Arabic). Character window closes if the character is removed. Removed old API-key window.
Available from http://Ceres.doesntexist.org/bin or from the auto updater.
Ps. I compensated the faster loader with loading a _lot_ more stuff... <3

Works fine here. By the way, thanks for the auto-updater, it makes Ceres really easier to use.
Just because I love making suggestions (and because you're really reactive ), could it be possible to graphically display the level the skills are currently trained, with 5 bars more or less filled, just as it is in the in-game skill sheet?

If someone was running Ceres this morning during down time, you might have noticed that it doesn't really show anything useful anymore.
Remove the bugged characters and re-add them.
OR
You either need to restore your database (Remove the Ceres.sqlite3 in ~/Library/Application Support/Ceres, and optionally rename one of the old databases to Ceres.sqlite3)
Sorry, I think I have fixed it now.

I'm still kind of new to Mac, so I'm not really sure what version you mean when you say Leopard.
I have v10.4.11 OSX. Is that too old to run it? When I try and run Ceres it says it's missing a program to run it, so I'm assuming yes but just wanted to make sure because I really need something like EVEMon and EFT for my laptop.

You probably need to install X11 then. You can find it on your OS X disk that came with your computer. I got EFT to work with Darwin. Takes 3 min to startup but works 99% after that. --// \\--

No idea really, but I think it's a 512px. square png that is required.

Actually the Goddess, but the planet might fit the theme of EVE quite well I think. But any idea is a good idea... (Except the really really bad ones... no pink puppies, please...)
The current pen and paper icon might show what the program replaces for me, but it honestly does quite suck.

It is 512x512 px indeed. There is a little app called img2icns. It converts any image in an macosx icns resource. Don't have the link right now, sorry.

Aurora: just noticed a bug in the the 'Skills' area. It isn't adding the total number of skillpoints for each set of skills correctly, e.g. in Trade, I have Contracting III, i.e. 8,000 SP. Ceres shows the number of SP for Contracting III as correct, but then shows the total SP I have for Trade as 107,606 SP. Wait ... now it says 107,640. It seems to be spreading my total SP over the section totals incorrectly ...

Oh, right... will have to fix that one.
I probably add the "extra sp" from the skill currently in training to all groups.
Edit: = instead of == :( Edit 2: I'll bunch up some fixes and then release a new version. The character view requires some additional love.

I was going to say no, but I took a shower and had an epiphany and realized that something looking like the preferences window might be nice. But for all of you who don't like it, don't worry, it will be an option.

Testing 0.0.11 and now 0.0.12. First off, great job, the app works smoothly so far. I have a few comments from a user perspective since I gather you are looking for input during the beta. The (auto) update from 11 to 12 went without a hitch.
This is just a laundry list of ideas, I know you don't get paid for this, and its great so far. Higher priority on top: - Icon - Add version number to About page (also include your name and links to any website) - Add paypal donation link to Ceres menu (it never is much but hey, it doesn't hurt) - Save the char window location on close. i.e. x,y placement - Increase indention of Skills under each category - Double click on skill category name/row expands/contracts category - Hover or (left)click on skill displays skill description - Highlight partially trained skills - Follow game standard and include five boxes depending on level trained (full, blinking or empty) - Hover or (right)click on a skill shows amount of time to complete next level (if available) - Option to include trainable skills (but not owned) in list - Clone Grade highlights in red if < Total SP - A mention somewhere of what has been changed in each update (annoying I know but good for testing)
Just thought about what you currently had, will save the thoughts on Skill Planning etc for the future. Thanks for all the hard work.

- This still needs a lot of work, like smoothing it out, rounded edges, making it look professional and adding the shiny mac look to it - Uses EVE Alpha Font - Image is of Ceres (dwarf planet) Wiki page
Hopefully someone with better graphic skills can assist.

Edit: one already done!
Many good points, I think.
- Icon Yes, the standard one looks quite... off.
- Add version number to About page (also include your name and links to any website) Yes, fix the about page. I'll add one to the next version-
- Add paypal donation link to Ceres menu (it never is much but hey, it doesn't hurt) No thanks, please donate me some ISK instead. It's just... well... easier (and tax reasons).
- Increase indention of Skills under each category Yes I don't really know how much though. I am also thinking of adding the same icons EVE uses too, like a yellow book for a 0-IV level skill, the brown one for a level V skill and the multi-book one for the skillgroups. Would that be good?
- Double click on skill category name/row expands/contracts category Sure, I should have fixed that one from the beginning.
- Hover or (left)click on skill displays skill description Not the next version, need to calculate prerequisites and some other things first.
- Highlight partially trained skills Yes, that is probably going to be in the next version. Would an orange gradient look good?
- Follow game standard and include five boxes depending on level trained (full, blinking or empty) Yes, I think so too. Just need to think about how I should draw it for it should look good.
- Hover or (right)click on a skill shows amount of time to complete next level (if available) Yes, maybe to all levels?
- Option to include trainable skills (but not owned) in list After I calculate prerequisites.
- Clone Grade highlights in red if < Total SP Right, should be easy I'll make sure to add that one.
- A mention somewhere of what has been changed in each update (annoying I know but good for testing) There is one, most changes are published here: http://wiki.github.com/JensNockert/ceres/todo-list (Some of the smaller changes are only available in the git log, but those tend to not be important (Quite often misspellings, fixing small bugs that I introduced but where not in the previous version etc.) It also includes a todo list for the next version.

I like that idea, the book icons are a great way to be consistent and indent the skills.

The game uses yellow I believe, so that's an option. But since Ceres uses white instead of black background, orange would pop better.

But I'll fix the about window next probably, it shouldn't involve much mental challenge ;)

When the app starts, it freezes while it queries the server load and downloads the activity. Is it possible to show the usual mac loading icon and have the query process in the background? Somethings it waits a good 30sec and then there is a rash of click catchup.

Yes, managed to break that in version x.
Btw, Good work on the icons.

I couldn't find anything on this in this thread so,
Any reason why you don't compile it for PPC? I have an old iBook (thus with ppc proc) with leopard, but it says my architecture isn't supported.
Any chance there will be a universal binary?

I might think that a PPC version is rather odd since EVE(wrapped) is a Intel only App.

you could get the source http://ceres.doesntexist.org/src/ and xcode and compile it your self, it might work.

Problem is that I don't have much space left for the gazillion gig that xcode needs. (poor old 40GB ibook)

Unless you are using some stuff that is not supported on PPC (I do not see why you would need that), it could make sense. The EvE client is for the game, Ceres is for meta game. I can see a lot of people wanting to use an old PPC portable to do skill planning and similar stuff while they only use a newer Mac Pro or iMac (or even a PC) at home to play.
The demand for an iPhone version of similar tools would be on the same line of thought.

For iPhone apps you could also look at capsuleer and iClone. Capsuleer looks great, not yet much features, but they are on the way. iClone looks great too, has much more functionality no skillplanning (yet). The creator of iClone is also busy making a osX version by the way.

Edited by: Aurora Morgan on 03/03/2009 00:27:43 No, there is no real reason why it's not an universal binary.
I just turned it off at one time to boost the compilation performance, I'll fix it soon.
I think I published a tarball with the latest code, just add the ppc architecture to the options. Otherwise there is a slightly untested version at http://github.com/JensNockert/ceres/tree/master
Thanks for reminding me to fix that.
Edit: Added git url.

Pre-Alpha 2 should be universal though. (We tested it on a G4.)
But beware that if you use it, you won't get an autoupdate to the 0.0.13 when I release it.

Beside the version issue mentioned, I seem to be getting different partially skills trained being highlighted. From comparing in-game to Ceres, Ceres is highlighting many more skills as partial. I don't see a pattern, either by Rank or Level. How is partial determined?
I'll be able to test the bad clone in the next few days!

Doh, lots of stuff to remember :(
It should highlight if you just trained one extra sp, I don't really know how it works in game.

Thanks for making it a universal bin.
Two bugs: 1. I have 2 new chars (<900k sp) which have approx. -2M SP for some reason. 2. If you have the character window open and do "View>Show Server status" it toggles the tabs. Probably no check for which is the active window.
1 feature: 1. Please make the drop-down menus in the preferences readonly, looks much nicer.

Fixes some minor bugs (about changing between tabbed/window mode, the highlighting and I _THINK_ I fixed the skills disappearing bug.) Added images for the skill groups, please send tips on other images if you find any better ones. I just quickly looked through the image dump.

To characters of mine have <900 sp, though Ceres shows them as having minus two billion something skillpoints. As you can see it's even worse than I thought. ;)
edit: Bit of fiddling around it turns out that your Int has collapsed. If I add the number of skillpoints the character has to the absolute value that Ceres gives me, I end up with with the equivalent of 2^31 leaving the 32th bit for the minus ;)

He means you can do this:
http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pref.png
:)
Edit: Something I would like to see is to have a selectable character window open when you open Ceres. Also, the initial character selection window is a bit redundant if you use the tabbed mode, so a way to start with it hidden might be useful (with a way to bring it back if you close it, as I can't seem to find one now).
Finally, maybe use some form of indicator on character tabs showing which one is training? Not necessarily showing what they are training, just that they are. An idea anyway, I can see that addressed in multiple ways.
Oh, and a bug I noticed. If you are using the Tabbed setting, and have the detailed character window active; the "Show Server Status" option is enabled and makes the tab part of the window slide in and out when you click it. Nifty feature, but I don't think it's intended to happen if you pick that particular option from the dropdown menu. :)

Save which windows were open the last time? Does that sound like a good compromise?

It seems to happen when the XML is requested more than once within the same caching period. The first request results in a correct answer, the following requests result in wrong data.
According to someone the base attribute value from the following request is not the base but the total value. But I did not check whether this is the case or not.

I've noticed that when an account's subscription lapses Ceres can't compensate for that when it tries to API check it, and hard crashes.
So basically in order to use Ceres without re-entering all my API data for all my accounts I have to reactivate the account and let Ceres check the API for it, there's no way to delete the account from Ceres before it crashes.
Loving the app though, eagerly anticipating a skillplanning option.

You can remove the database from ~/Application Support/Ceres/ in the mean time. But I can honestly say I never thought about that possibility.
You can't access the api of a character that's not in subscription?
And about the stats, I have no idea what's going on. It's not only stats, but the API gives faulty skill training times too.

Nope. I guess you should test for that case. And for other strage cases (reprocessed character in an otherwise still valid account, for example. Including ... all charcters reprocessed on an account and account empty). If you do not have an expired account I can provide you with the ID and key of one of the many I discontinued (creating a discontinued account is easy but would take you 14 days. Reprocessed characters, on the other hand, are less than a day on any account, even a brand new trial).

It's open source and managed with GIT. Project uri is git://github.com/JensNockert/ceres.git
Go ahead and install git, then fetch a fresh copy of the files and get you hands dirty. I'm sure Aurora would not mind if you help out (or it would not be on git to begin with!)
Once you get a feeling with the sources ... just keep in contact with her (as suggested) so that you do not waste time working on the same features.

Originally by: KW Mech Yup, It's a great app, but unfortunately there hasn't been a new release for quite some time. I hope that it hasn't been put on the back burner for too long.
Working on it, but the skill queue integration is giving me some problems. And I am currently visiting my family, so not too much time to work on it. But I am working.

No, works fine for me. Did you happen to delete a character from eve lately. I sent one of my alts to the trash once and Ceres kept crashing on boot. I deleted the files from the Library/Application Support/Ceres directory and let it remake the files and all was good afterwards.

I did sell off a character that I was tracking in Ceres, although I haven't deleted any in Eve.
I tried what you did, though, and deleted the DB and whatnot.
One of my characters works fine. The other one blows up Ceres as soon as I add it. There must be something in his xml that is blowing things up. |

Aurora Morgan: You should totally set up Git or SVN for this project. I wouldn't mind contributing myself.
This is a great program, though there are a few things I'd like to add and fix, and having a control system would be fantastic for tracking bugs, branching, and updating. Just throwing that out there. Google Code would be plenty sufficient if you don't want to take the time to find/set up your own box. I'd even be willing to take charge of it. msg/evemail me in game if you'd like to talk more. |

Yeah, I didn't see that. I'll plough through the source tomorrow at work (lolol slow economy) and see what is up.
Also, a couple pages back people were commenting on the binary being Intel only. Why may I ask would people want a PPC or Universal binary? EVE only runs on Intel Macs, so I kind of got confused with the whole premise.

Perhaps to have it open on a pre-intel machine that you've still got lying around so that you can run it while playing and not have to alt+tab (memory leak) or cmd+tab (lose screen real-estate).
That was my guess anyway

Probably, and making it a universal binary wasn't hard. I just don't know if there were any endian issues...
If someone is interested, there is a "working skillqueue" version in git now. It's just the UI left.

For the record, I found a fix.
I noticed that Evemon showed one of my extra-slot alts at -2m SP. She definitely had positive SP, she's never been podded at all. Then I noticed an API error popping up in outofeve, which led me to further believe that something was mucked up with the API data for this account.
So, I logged in that account, logged in the toon with the negative SP, and after DT, everything is fine again.

Oh, that's unexpected. There seems to be quite a bit of problems with the API. I should make sure it just ignores such characters.

Works very well on my MacBook Pro. One thing I would suggest adding an "Add Character" selection in the Edit Pulldown. Although that could be something for later.
A more cosmetic suggestion for later is to maybe be able to switch between the list of characters and the more detailed view. Almost like two different view options. It just seems to make the desktop cluttered if you're going to have both of the windows up.
Otherwise a wicked cool program. Keep up the good work.

short feature request, listed in my order of priority:
1. Run as a service, so no dock icon, just leave it up in the toolbar pls 2. An Icon.. c'mon I like my mac cos it's pretty, and you're ruining it :( 3. Add wallet amount on main screen, I (and I suspect a lot of others) like to keep track of my trade alt this way. 4. Colour code the time in the toolbar (green, all good.. orange, ending soon.. red.. oh **** I still forgot to update a skill :s)

Aurora,
First off, many thanks to you and the folks helping out on the development of Ceres - great tool that's way overdue!
As far as ideas for new bits to add to it: 1. The little info icon at the end of each row for the skills that would open up a window with the same info as in-game, and 2. If there's any way to do it, a way to show how much time to train a skill to the next level
Thanks again for all the hard work!

This is the error I get once I input my user id and api key. I put that information in, click the choose character button in the prefpane, and it starts to load my characters. It never finishes, and the application crashes shortly after I click the button to load characters. Just a heads up for the dev team.

Do you have an alt on the sam account that has the training que paused? This will cause the EvE API to bug out.

could be the API server was still off line, they keep it off line longer after a patch.

Where does Ceres store application data? Every time I open it it prompts me for my API key and doesn't store characters from the last session.
