Edited by: Smagd on 31/01/2009 16:08:50 I've tested this on a new Aluminum MacBook with NVIDIA 9400M, 2.4GHz CPU and 4GB memory on Leopard 10.5.6.
Run a level 4 mission and performance was very close to the old client. In fact I ran both concurrently in Windowed mode, and that worked well.
I do get the black ship textures, and shield hardeners and some mission structures give me broken other textures, too, but performance is good enough, above some 15 fps.
There's some key bindings that don't seem to work: Alt-F4 doesn't activate the module, where Alt-F3 and Alt-F5 work nicely and I haven't yet found the "Snapshot" key on my keyboard (but Mac-Shift-3 and 4 work).
I've run a mission so far, did some looting and I'm now trying mining, looks good tho. CPU temperature doesn't go over 82 ¦C with two clients running. |

Originally by: Klyn Today i tried the beta. I'm not very impressed. Just flew into a Lvl1-Complex. When the enemies started shooting, i got a (the) graphic-bug. Most textures got pink, the modules on the hud and the white text were garbled, grainy and intransparent. The music stuttered a lot, i had to turn it off.

You shouldn't need to upgrade it, the X3100 is SM3 capable. Of course the performance is going to blow, but it's integrated graphics, so what do you expect? |

Well I'm running a X3100 on the macbook air and classic + premium are performing identically. It's a skill changing machine, but the stupid thing is that Eve is CPU hungry and thus it doesn't even use it to the max. I'm having like 40-60% of free CPU and it's free! Optimizing boys, optimizing... With that said, CCP said that premium should perform betters so it could be possible that Eve will run decently enough on these X3100 setups.
It's another matter if it's "supported", but I personally think it's a ******ed idea to make a mac client that ONLY supports like this year mac models (not even all of them), and pretty much scraps everything else. I hardly think that the mac users are all using this year models. Also, we don't change or upgrade the frigging platform every year! I understand this is different from the PC side, but why have a mac client then.
Oh well, enough of this rant. I hope the premium lite will get a significant boost in performance in the next month....hmm...actually, if it ships on March 10th with boxes also...then shouldn't they have the gold version already? Scary... Stop whining. |

I was told it was not going to work. Yeah, I see the GUI but nothing else... btw this is the beta for full premium not premium lite right? That should be fien to run...I hope

If it supports SM3 then it should "run", but that's pretty much tossing a coin and hoping for it. If it works, good, if not...well it's not supported. I still think they will try and make it run on anything that's possible. Specially when you consider that Apple sells even today a laptop, that's not on the supported list.
As for the premium to be lite or premium...no idea. I'm a bit scared that if they are only testing the premium...it would be nice to test the lite version also.
But hey, I would just go for actually to be able to run the premium one a supported machine. That's a no no at the moment for me. I would be interested in knowing what happens if I currently play with a Eve-capable Mac, then after March it's not capable anymore... any refunds or is just "adios, thanks for the subcription money untill Christmas" |

It's probably just a bug, the hardware is compliant. You haven't mentioned what version of Mac OS X you're on, for example. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Since this thread has been so quiet lately, I thought I'd update the fine folks at CCP about my earlier promises of violence and reward based on the performance of the Premium Mac client.
Violence: I held a Super Bowl (American Football championship) party last weekend and finally had a chance to try out my latest piece of cookware - the frying pan. That's a 15" cast iron skillet; perfect for feeding a small army of ravenous football fans. It's absolutely great for cooking duck, and came pre-seasoned (the better to eat you with...). It's also really, really heavy - theoretically speaking, getting hit with it would hurt like hell.
Reward: I happen to have a few bottles left of some of the United States' best microbrew, Rogue Dead Guy Ale. I understand it to be quite excellent, and I think yee alcoholics at CCP would find that it fits in well with your drinking habits.
Now according to my calendar, there are 31 days left until March 10th. On March 10th, I expect to be playing EVE on my Mac, and seeing at least a respectable increase in performance for the Mac client as compared to the current client, as this is what was promised to the Mac community. The metric I use for that is the POS test mentioned earlier in this thread, because that's where the current client's performance is the most unbearable.
So come March 10th, will I be showering you with violent swings of a 15" cast iron skillet, or with delicious foreign beer? That will be up to you to decide. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Ok, well when i first tried the premium beta, i got the purple ship of doom whenever i zoomed in.. Not good.
I tried again with all the shadow settings turned off and wahey! Im running 10.4.11 on a macbook pro with a x1600 graphics card and with the shadows off the graphics seem fine, with a frame rate of around 29-30fps in space.
The only problem now is that it throws an exception after about 5-10min and quits out..
Looks like its improving though.. Ill try to run some missions and see how the client fares, and if it keeps closing and i can get a bug report ill send it in asap.
Keep on it CCP, i may not have to upgrade to 10.5.6 after all at this rate.. woop! |

Originally by: CCP Whisper In other news, we've managed to trace and fix the cause of the memory leak. There's also some work going on to address some texturing and shader handling issues which should result in better stability or performance (it might even fix the problem with switching on shadows). Once that gets checked in we will try to get an updated beta build out as soon as possible. This probably won't happen before the weekend but we'll try to get it out as soon as possible.
Any update on this (bolded part)? It's been more then 2 weeks since you made this statement. |

Does this Premium Graphics client allow you to add solar systems to the "Avoidance List" in the Map/Autopilot function? Try as I might, right-clicking with all tenacity, I can NOT add anything to the empty "Avoidance List" when I try to plan a multi-jump trip.
Yes, the Kensington Trackball is configured to right-click when I press a certain button.

Why does it say "incompatible (release)" when I attempt to log on? I just downloaded the client and it won't let me log on.

Because the client you downloaded is the old one. You must wait for the new client (see the post above your).

Given the entire current MacBook / Pro lines run 9x00M GPUs, will a client be built that officially supports them?

I was on my mac pro (I think gfx card is a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT). I launched premium and logged onto sisi successfully. Was in station in a rifter, and it looked damn beautiful.
Then I undocked and it hung. I was running in windowed but it still ended up hanging the whole OS, including cursor movement after a while. Force restarted, logged in again, got to loading the ship in space and..... crashed, again.
Haven't tried on my late '08 MBP yet, but from what I can read premium beta's down for the moment ...
Just thought I'd let you guys know. Good luck with the patch!

Hi there
Downloaded rest beta Client from link posted here 1hr.47min renamed my existing client installed the Sing Beta client to have the message incompatible version so looked for conversion patch from TQ to Sing found link nothing there no patch to be found at the end pf the link. Can someone advise where this patch to make this supposedly easy straight forward connection for us Mac users to the Sing Server work please.
It would appear that the invitation is an empty one.

I'm ****ed off too!
I made a copy of my EVe client (there is no fuill singularity client for mac yet) and downloaded the singularity patch - it refuses to patch the damn thing, says it is incompatible. I tried the older sing patch. Nothing.
How the hell do you expect us to test this if we are unable to run the damn client. I'm not getting my hopes up though. Has anyone tried the Premium client on in crossover games? it's a pile of ****!
At the end of the week, if you want to play games then use windows for ****sake. I don't blame CCP for the ****nessd of Cider (whcih infact use to be GPL license) I'm sticking with the classic and if the final version of this does not work then i'm off back to everquest 2 because id on't know why i should have to install windows just because you lot are unable to get cider to play nicely with EVE online.

There used to be a classic client and a classic client patch for sisi. You would have to copy the client or install a new copy and patch it with the patch. That's the regular way of doing things.
They then introduced a beta for premium. Not a patch: a complete install.
Then they deployed the Apocrypha test server on sisi. Since they did that the mac premium beta can be downloaded and installed, but it cannot connect to any server. They have NOT YET updated it. So there is no premium beta available at the moment. There ALSO is no sisi patch available because that cannot exist at all: the classic client is not supported on SiSi any more. Neither Mac nor Windows.
In other words: if you are on a mac you cannot conect to sisi, at the moment. If you are on a windows platform that does not run the premium client, you cannot connect to sisi, at the moment.
As of march 10, if you are on a windows platform that does not support premium light (whatever that will be) you will not be able to play any more. If you are on a Mac ... your future is yet to be defined. Military experts predict it will be closely tied to whether Maria Kalista bytes herself or not.

When will the Beta be updated so that it works again. Mine is at version 5.20.73201 and it says that it is incompatible with Singularity and that there are no updates for this. When do we get to try out the new features on Singularity with the new mac version?

Short Answer: We don't know
Long Answer: The gut feeling is "not soon". CCP appears to be waiting on Transgaming to knock out Cider bugs at this point. Currently the Apoc beta is not running correctly under Cider. CCP and Transgaming have given us no indication of when this might be (all indications are that something went horribly wrong, CCP was expecting to have a Mac Apoc beta ready weeks ago) and trying to fix strange bugs in Cider is not an easy task. I don't think there's anyone on the face of the Earth that knows when the beta will be ready. And there's still an outside chance we won't have a working client come M10. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |
