Well, now I have a weird issue... I don't think this is happening to anyone else, either.
I tried logging onto the premium beta and it says the server status was unknown... I also tried redownloading the beta client and it still says the same thing. Is there a SiSi update that could be causing this that I have to download?
Please help! |

Edited by: DeTroya on 16/01/2009 04:58:09 Installed the beta and it ran perfectly! I am running new MacBook with 10.5.6; 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
WOW! There is a huge difference from the previous client! I was able to do several jumps successfully. I haven't had time to try anything fancy but it seems very stable.
It is so cool to finally have the seamless graphics everyone else has talked about! Thanks to the hard work of the dev teams!

How on earth did they ever manage to sell the current classic as a finished product to us Stop whining. |

System Specs: iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo 2 GB ATI RadeonHD2600 running in full screen mode with only Safari in background. Grahic settings with bloom.
Just tested the new client for 2 hours... All the windows (market, star map etc.) seem to work properly. All shades and graphics look beautiful. Frame rate always between 20-30 fps
After fitting a Tempest I tried a little jumping around and ratting in 0.0...
But the client hangs about every 10 minutes, so I had to restart it every time. After restarting it works for another 10 minutes and hangs again.
Any suggestions about that?
In any way, I think when the new Mac client gets on release, CCP did a great job!

I've tried this twice with 10.5.6 on my first gen Mac Pro (X1900 xt graphics card in 30" monitor) and while I LOOOVE the premium graphics (first time I've seen 'em) there is an issue where, in station, the icons on the left side dock are half-ghosted out and illegible and the same thing happens to my instrument panel (guns, armor rep etc.) against certain backgrounds when I'm outside in combat. I can rotate screen and against clouds the buttons glitch out and aren't readable but when I rotate so there's a open space behind then it's fine. Totally repeatable.
Also it crashes whole system (have to do hard reset - which I NEVER have to do) both times I tested it.
In the official app I'd never been able to see what the inside of stations were meant to look like - that's always glitched out for me.
7gb RAM, btw, running the beta at 2560x1600 and I run the proper game 1 res down from that in windowed..... and it starts crashing every 1-2 days and the computer has to be restarted to normalize - on the non-beta version!

Tried it on a latest-generation 15" MBP with a 9600M GT at 512RAM. I didn't have much time to fiddle with it, but three quick impressions:
1. Windowed mode is still not an option regardless of resolution. 2. It heats up the computer like nothing else. With smc locking fans to the max 6200rpm it still ratcheted up to 92C within three minutes and would have gone higher if I didn't abort. That is wildly out of recommended CPU parameters. 3. The character portraits are missing shadows that appear normally in the XP version of the client.

1. CMD+Return for windowed or is there another problem? There's also a way to configure the client manually to automatically use windowed mode. Check in the stickies for this section.
2. Do you have the advanced graphics settings present interval set to one?
3. Character portrait shadows?

As mentioned, we're already looking into several of the identified issues, like the memory leak, targeting stability foremost with graphical glitches close behind. The detailed information already posted will help us provide a stable, amazing looking client when Premium ships. Great job, all!
Just a few quick notes:
The ATI X1600 and ATI X1900 both have the R500 chip. Unfortunately, there is an issue with these cards that currently hard-locks EVE from time-to-time. This is a known issue, and we're currently working to provide a workaround. Thanks in advance for you patience.
It is recommended that you update your OS to the most recent point release. In every OS update, there are fixes to graphics drivers, memory management, etc. The point release upgrades are free and will ensure that you are running the best drivers for your hardware.
Keep the feedback coming, and thanks again!
Thanks for visiting TransGamingùalways good to see the blue lines here and there. And you're welcomeùwhatever we can do to help out. |

okay:
overall ran very smoothly and fps was running at 25+ fps. looked farkin sexy too. tried a bit of pvp and it ran like a dream. annoying you still can't do window view though.
but then:
1. blocky black ship with black block drones appeared and stayed for a while but he seemed to disappeared depending what angle the camera or ship was at.
2. when i logged in first of all local had no one in it despite the fact there was two peeps sitting outside with me at the station in rens, but this changed when i got to amamake.
3. at one point, coming out of warp at a stargate, frame rate juddered down to 2fps and froze then client crashed shortly after.
Other than those little things, it all looked and ran smoothly with full res and bloom on and 7 other apps running. looking forward to the finished piece.

So far it's a good start. The only issues I have seen have already been mentioned with the exception of an issue I have with the market. Any time I click on an item the client crashes out to Desktop but I can still hear the audio. I haven't had a lot of time to play with the Premium client but I think it's a pretty good so far.

That's two comments now about no window view. The selection in the preferences window doesn't work because of how Cider is simulating the Windows environment but CMD+Return still flips you between windowed and non-windowed views. Check the stickies for instructions on setting the initial state in the config files. From what I can tell Eve isn't rewritten in any way for Mac. It runs in a simulation provided by Cider. So, you won't be seeing tweaks to the UI just for us.
Hope that helps.
What I would like is to know if there is some way to turn on anti-aliasing. Sounds like Windows users do that outside of the client but the Mac doesn't have any option to turn it on that I've seen. |

When I open the client, it says there's a 0MB patch to install, but it doesn't work. File not found or some error. Trying to log in also doesn't work. Wrong client version error. What's happening? |

I'm not even sure if CCP officially supports windowed mode for Mac client. Kind of a shame since right now, windowed mode seems to be the only option if you wish to play eve and still do other stuff for any length of time. There may be some limitation we are unaware of.

Too bad, I'd jump at the chance to continue playing eve if they can release a stable premium edition for os x.
Maybe I'll check back in March.

For those of you experiencing difficulties connnecting to Singularity and not receiving a patch, we're working on getting things running again. Someone got a bit overzealous in deployment and we're going to either revert back to the old server code or get a Mac patch built and deployed as quickly as we can. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Wow, really odd. You would think the programers could have written code to check the platform and when=Mac issue CMD-TAB in behind the menu pick then and saved it's state in the preferences file.
Why make Mac users chase down and edit a file??

Sorry to barge in and being off-topic here.
I'm on a laptop but with linux.
I read of people here who experience crashes due to overheating. I have had this issue, unrelated to Eve, in the past - I found out it was simply dust that had gathered in the heatsink/fan (and I have a couple of cats too).
To you whose macbooks or other laptop overheat, can you easily remove some cover over the fan and check if it needs to be cleaned? I usually do it every couple of months or so nowadays. (Last time heat went from 91*C to 76*C).

Edited by: Kaide Sendai on 17/01/2009 19:37:09 Works great on my 3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo + nvidia 8800 GS 24" iMac (4GB RAM). Rarely seeing it drop below 59 fps. I've been jumping around like crazy and scrapping with NPCs - no crashes and looks beautiful.
Edit: Oops spoke to soon. I just docked at UM-Q7F X Quafe Company Factory. When i docked there was a sort of semi-transparent white overlaid window on the right hand side where the Station Information window is. The Quafe logo was just a white box. When I clicked on it, I found myself looking at my desktop. EVE had stopped responding but was still running in the background. I had to force quit it.
Nice work so far though :)
