Yes, this might be true. But if you lock @ the planned sov changes in Dominion, you will see small entities are nerfed anyway by alot. Cynojammers and jumpbridges will be nerfed, so at the end of the day only a few powerblocks will rule eve and dominate it by their Capital Blobs. Smaller entities will be not able to defend their space and industrial infarstructure.....they will loose their contruction pos' and their space... simple as that. Cynojammer, Sov4, JBs were the best tools to defend against an invader and to delay him. Without this smalls will just be steamrolled for the lulz..
So it makes no sense to talk abaut small scale cap battles, since only big coalitions and alliances will be viable. The 0.0 space is for bigger player only, and for those the titan changes are perfect as they are @ sisi atm.

t another thing to remember is you can fully insure you dread or carrier. titan and sc pilots cannot do the same. titans can be realisstically built or bought by any corp / alliance that is dedicated to it. tbh this has to happen, the amount of dreads and carriers in the game is much more outof hand than the titan amount.
Its funny people saying "supercaps online" its going to be more like "industrialists online".
More death is great for everyone. with new sov changes it looks possibly harder to hold space. If that map with all the new regions isnt fake then even smaller alliances will be able to get a foothold somewhere.r

Actually the amount of dreads/carriers stopped increasing in game. Only thing that will happen soon is slow migration of dread pilots to titan pilots because "bigger is now better".

I was (and still am but much less now) doing in dread production industry. And if you didnt know (and after i read your post - you didnt) dread/carrier production is pretty much dead now. Ship market costs are close to production costs. Why? Because of napfest. Yes big napfests dont help industry, they kill it.

Wha? The "map with all new regions" IS fake. And tbh we dont need more 0.0 space. ATM 0.0 space is more-less the 40% of game yet it has 10% of the whole eve population. First population density needs to increase before you actually add more space.

the sov changes in dominion are made to counter what you have just described. with the exponential upkeep the huge blobs on the map will break up into smaller entities and while this can be circumvented in part with partner alliances, it will inevitably still bring more small scale warfare with it.
I mean, read what you have just written, is that something you'd like to see? No? Then why not try and change things so they promote smaller alliances and smaller battles? Sov mechanics and titan stats arent fix yet. Let's try and change it so what you have just described doesn not happen.

i'm a new pilot of the calda's one.
i'have dd 2 times.
DD is very laggy, and titans are more build than destruct ...
Changing that is good, but the new change is not good.
Why :
Dreads are going to shoot carriers => supercarriers, and then the titan alone one the grid without any support, will be easily tacled by a heavy dictor, warping on supercarriers wreck.
huge EHP on supercarriers is stupid, i think if you want a lot of it in fight, you should allow it to dock and jump a bit more longer. ( equal with calib 5 to a dread 4 ).
Why use in futur super weapon ( dd ) ?
Warping on dreads with carriers to remote @ 250km and may be tackled is very dangerous for a 100-150b ship ( fitting cost a lot ).
no bonus on armor rep, no bonus on shield boust but huge EHP...
With a low dps ( 9 dread ) a titan tackled is dead. even it take longer.
and the titan should have enough fuel to use the S - weapon 7-8 times & maybe more ...
fuel bay is very small actually for that.
If no change is done, titan's will be used for structures.
What kind of structures ? Sov disruptors & Starbases.
but without any hostiles in local to be safe. ( in your home. ).
Titan's will be defensive only.
Actually titan can be :
offensive against bs/has. ( You should use more than one titan for bs because evrybody use plates in fleet now ) offensive with jumbridges. defensive on you cap fleet, when you got bubulled and support is on you. Logistik for your cap production.
titan is actually offensive, now it's gonna more defensive than offensive.
It's mad to use a titan now on a grid, if dreads are around ( even 20ly ), titan is dead for sure.
Titan will not be overpowered, it's not a good change for sure.

your right deva that dreads and carriers sales are at a stand still due to saturation. the reason there is saturation is due to lack of wars. This has nothing to do with Titans. on the other hand though when fights break out and dreads and carriers die more often more will sell and there will be demand for them again.
i dont see all the dread and carrier pilots switching to titans and supercarriers at all. they are to expensive and to big a target to use just any time. like some of the titan pilots in this thread have pointed out they still die. 45 to 50 billion for a ship hull is still out of most peoples prices range. where as 800million to 2 billion for dreads and carriers plus full insurance is still acceptable.
i think you are wrong on the dont need more space. to drag more people out of empire you have to have more space. hopefully the sov changes me you have to control a smaller area. this will mean more groups in 0.0 space. i have no problem with naps, just not 2 or 3 of them. we need 0.0 to have 10 groups or so. then people will fight more, more caps will die, more supercaps will die, and more fun for all. industrialist and pvpers alike.

Actually this titan/mothership iteration is the 1st time im actually thinking about getting into one. I hate capital ship warfare but such overpowered tool is just too good to pass it by and totally ignore (and yeah i do have enough isk for one, just never really wanted it).
As to bolded part: idiots die. People who shouldnt sit in titan in 1st place. How many titans lately died in real combat (as in doomsday, get tackled on the field, die)? 1? 2? And how many died due to being bumped out of pos, caught logged with aggro or other close-to-metagame ways? All others. And thats the way how it will happen with new titans. Sure they will die - in same way they die nowadays. Out of combat (or if in combat then some tard pilot thinking he can solo the world under napfest nose). But when it comes to north/south napfest titans IN combat i doubt they will die. If one side deploys 5 titans you can be sure they will have 100+ other caps on stand by. Other side will not risk it. They never did risk it for "goodfights". Last cap battle (the biggest one in game) happened almost by accident and due to good baiting + lots of counter-counter-hotdrops. Before that? I think only major fights were ones TRI was in (might have missed some but i wouldnt be so sure). Before TRI fights? Hmmm... MAX campaing. So yeah the "huge fights where caps die" can be counted on fingers of ONE hand! And thats over a year now. Thats why i think the fights you are looking for will never happen. Alliance leaders are smart enough not to suicide cap fleets. And solo idiots will die, like always.

We have PLENTY of space. Its one thing you dont grasp. About 5-10% of current 0.0 systems are actually USED. Its ******ed "buffer zones" that both (especially northern) napfest created that stops 0.0 developement. "because you too would prefer to have enemy at least 30 jumps away from your carebears". Result? 5-10 inhabited systems and then "30 jumps buffer" which equals to 100 empty systems. And more 0.0 will not change it. The new 0.0 will be used again in same way: 4-5 systems used, rest "buffer" zone.

It might result in less "buffer" zones but TBH i dont think it will work. But thats my personal opinion on it. Gonna see it after dominion gets released but i dont see it becoming "easier" for new groups to enter 0.0.

With the current stats i'm guessing what titan equates to 20 odd dreads.
Also given the current stats a titan "arms race" is probably a given, with the current alliances having 10 odd already it won't be long till they can amass fleets of 30+ so roughly 600 dreads worth. This means alot because if those 30 titans go up against say 100 odd dreads its steamroller time.
As noted in this thread I doubt the big powerblocks would use them without a major advantage hence they're not really going to get used.
The difference will come for new groups who not only be outnumbered by the old napsters, they'll also be outclassed. There would be no risk in deploying large numbers titans against newer groups 'cause their not going to pull 400 odd dreads out of thin air and arn't going to risk a few titans against many.
In short stagnation.

1. you are lucky to have enough cash to build or buy a titan. it still takes space to and logistics to do it.
2. titans have died and yes alot to metagaming but this change in titan is to meant to address that. get them on the field of battle like they are supposed to be. not hiding in a pos.
3. what do you consider a large capital fight. can 10 or so caps die or does it have to be 100s of cap wrecks?
4. with the changes ccp is making where you can improve your own area this should help populate space. get rid of the "buffer zone". with more population means more capitals in fights.
5. you have responded to almost every post i have made but you have just disagreed with me. are their any changes ccp is trying to make you like? all i am saying is titans and super carriers need to be on the field. if that is going to happen their needs to be a major incentive for them to be due to their huge cost. it might not be much isk to you, but to the other 99.8% of eve they still cost alot.

But those are already set up in game. If i cant get one myself i buy titan from 3rd party. And its not like the amount of titan producing groups will diminish.

i would say 100ish caps on field (so result of around 50 cap wrecks) is decent-large cap fight. very large is 200+caps on field. 50 caps on field is small fight wheras anything under (~20) is just cap skirmish.

Like i said: i will gladly see how it works out. But i have my doubts.

What i like? new faction BS, rework of pirate BS, new planet GFX (lulz ;p), partially new sov system (at least the part where it goes away from POS stuff)
What i dislike? CCP moving back into capital ships online while not giving us any subcapital-to-capital counters while reinforcing capitals at the same time. Yes i dont like caps. I can fly them and flown them in combat. I can buy them if i wish and replace as soon as i lose one. It still doesnt mean i like capital ship combat which actually doesnt use ANY PLAYER SKILL at all. Capital ship combat is pure mathematics. bring xxx dps and yyy EHP to fight, enemy bring theirs. Compare numbers. Who has more, wins. And now with titan changes they become another xxx and yyy numbers (tho larger than any other).
It doesnt fix any issues with capitals themselves, with capital blobs or abusing supercapital amounts. Actually it only reinforces the problem. Making supercapitals stronger and not giving any new counters will only make people blob them even more.
But yeh, if its seleene doing the changes im not even surprised anymore.

In subcap combat you can orbit to change enemy DPS, you can move out of range or in range. Disengage, rewarp, use EWar etc. In cap combat you can sit and click F1-F8 and wait for results. Or snipe (which is pretty much the same thing as above except enemy cant hurt you till they move caps to new position). And yea - at least with current TQ titans the game is with trying to catch titan before it warps. With new titan its again game of tank vs gank. I so enjoy shooting stationary targets for minutes/hours till either they pop or i do. So much fun.

I think your assertion that Dread pilots will be upgrading to Titans or SCs is faulty. There are two reasons why the number of supercaps keeps increasing right now. One is production, and there are many entities that consider Sov 4 mandatory for supercapital production. Without invulnerable starbases and 100% secure space, I guarantee you will see a lot fewer people even attempting to build supercapitals. And of those, you will see a lot more die before production is completed, especially titans. No more need to assault Sov 4 constellation. Just down the jammer, hop in, reinforce a fairly weak pos (not much defense on a supercap shipyard), then slug it out with the defense fleet after the timer goes.
The other was that titans almost never die, and moms are worthless and don't get fielded. Gone are the days of titans being on the grid for 15 seconds, they'll actually have to commit to a fight. So either they won't get used at all (which I think is unlikely), or they'll actually be committed to fights, and probably die if their side loses.
Now, due to the risk of committing, it probably won't happen that much, so I don't expect supercaps to be dying in droves. But I think that production will slow to a crawl on these things, and that over the next couple years we'll see the number of active supercaps either stagnate or fall. It really just depends on how many people are going to risk 15 billion building a mom, or 40 building a titan, when they stand a very good chance of being flattened before production finishes.

Gotta quote this for emphasis, because it's intrinsic to the development of eve.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to balance against "numbers". Whatever CCP does, one weapone will always be "FOTM", you can balance until you've got hte muscles of an overtrained chinese 13yo gymnast, it won't change. What we have to do is make sure they cost loads and do enough damage to justify being on the field often enough that they die enough (both to same class, and lower class) to ensure that when they are used well, they are deadly, but on the opposite spectrum lots die at one time.
I still maintain that normal dictors are overpowered, hictors are fine, supercaps need a defence against smarbombs but that the cooldown and "no-warp" effects should be increased, whilst supercaps should have increased resistances against supercap weaponry to ensure that it takes more (ie) titans to kill a titan than it would a dread of the same HP.

Edited by: Svartkraft on 20/09/2009 12:16:46 I like the new role as a "brawler". The biggest ship in the game sitting on the field and unleashing hell while having an enourmous tank seems much more appropriate than only staying on the field for a few seconds to unleash a doomsday.
DD instapopping carriers and dreads seems a bit over the top for me though, the 3 mil dmg every 5 minutes can be broken down to about 10k dps.
The only reason i can really give for this is that a weapon instantly destroying a ship worth >1bil without giving the owner at least the chance to avoid it or to defend himself seems very harsh. (for the old doomsday there was several seconds of time to get out for battleships and also the option to fit the ship to survive at least one doomsday. perfectly executed dual or triple doomsdays werent exactly easy to pull off)
I suggest to remove the 3 mil. burst damage and enhance the titans dps instead (as far as i am concerned it could be even more than the broken down 10k dps).
I know it is the biggest and most expensive ship in the game and it is supposed to be strong. however a titan dealing the damage of several dreadnoughts, without impaired tracking and with the option to be kept up by carriers doesnt seem like a bad deal to me and should live up to its status as most expensive ship.

I never said people wouldn't want the ships. I'm sure that demand for titans, and particularly supercarriers, will go up significantly. I said that I expect supply to stagnate or go down due to the significantly increased difficulty of safely building one. I'm sure some people will succeed in building them without the shipyard getting popped. Some will also fail, and many won't even try with Sov 4 being gone.

Nerf the new superweapon ; Oneshot a Dread or a carrier with 1 "I WIN BUTTON" every 5 minutes is just stupid and unbalanced...
You can increase the Titan dps and resistances, but please, do not nerf Dreadnoughts like this ; they got no chance to escape, sniped by Titans...

Hehe. Dont forget that with the good tracking of the cap guns, the titan pilots can now pass time in between doomsdays by shooting BSs and cruisers.
There is game that closely simulates the new titans, from the perspective of the titan pilot. Best of all its free!
Short explanation: The little things in the sky stand for common ships and caps, goal is to shoot em as quickly as you can. Space for reload. (The game is a bit harder than shooting with an actual titan since you have to aim, and can miss!)
Check it out, its fun!

what is the lock time on say a hic from a titan? without sensor boosters and with sig analysis 5? i wouldnt think it would be a fast lock. these faster moving ships that is the saving grace against a titan. if the titan never gets a lock the super frig tracking the titan has is not going to work.
yes i know they can put on sensor boosters, but the armor tankers will give up cap for repping and shooting. and the shield tankers will give up tank. i am guessing at most the titans will fit 2 sb. lock time on a frig even with 2 should be like 30 secs, cruisers 25secs, bc maybe 20, and a bs 15secs.

It has very barely worse lock time than a carrier (55 => 60mm scan res). It won't have any issues locking a HIC in under 20-30 seconds.

which is plenty of time for him to decide either to try and tank or bug out.

Should add that Titan pilots get one hour aggression timer instead of 15 minutes. :P As I see it, log off when tackled. Chances of survival = high enough to try. :) Want to know more? |

The difference between the fully armor tanked Titan vs a shield tank Titan are off.
When we were talking mom fits it was down to a couple a few hundred thousand or so effective hit points. Now it is a difference of millions of hit points between a shield tanked Titan vs an armor tanked Titan.
I hope this is looked into considering we all want titans on the field.

Edited by: Zeveron on 21/09/2009 06:28:40 Leviathan needs some more cpu.
With maxed skills I need a 5% slot 6 electronic implant to fit the standard active tank fit (2x amps 1x capital booster, 4x pdu, 1x damage control) if I put 7 citadel launchers.
I cannot put 1-2 bcus unless I get some cpu love. I havent talked with other titan pilots to see what they fit, but if it isnt intended (bcs of balance) pls take a look at that.
I made some tests with a couple of friends on test srv and my ship looks more fun than b4. But its gona die soon with bets going 10:1 against me :-) ________________________________________________
