It'd be really kewl if CCP could put a UTC clock right there somewhere on the page. It's ok you can keep it true to CCP and make it just large enough so we have to put our face up to the screen to read it like the ingame one.

I think we're lucky it is only 30 minutes to an hour a day. Takes a lot of resources to run an MMO this big as one realm (or whatever they call it).

This isn't a rage about downtime, that happens. But why when you have a news box on the login page, news on the EvE website front page and a dedicated news page do we have to go searching through the forums to find out what is going on? I know a lot of people live on here, but many actual players never visit the forums ever, it would be nice if the information was a bit easier to find.

Shrinking the scripted DT to 30 minutes was not the smartest move for CCP. They had the 1 hour institutionalized and should have kept it regardless whether it was needed or not. If they can get the server up and running sooner, great but officially it should have still been an hour.
Confidentially, I think CCP likes whine.

I might be going crazy here but i find most of the time in on in much LESS then 30mins....
in fact i have been on within 15 - 20 mins of DT starting most nights so maybe you should check your facts on that one again. and considering this is my prime time I'm happy to see them raising the bar to 30mins as the scheduled downtime, even if sometimes they miss the mark.

I agree with you Philder, i've been playing for like 1-1.5month, and its almost always been 30mins or a little earlier, only on a few rare times it's been a few minutes later, like very few times..
And this is the time of the day i play, so i pretty much experience the downtime everyday
They're doing a great job compared to every other MMORPG i've ever played |

Not that i care myself - too many years of ccp incompetence have rendered me numb lol - but there are a hell of a lot of people who care alot about their jobs and take pride in the high quality of their products etc.
In reality, CCP are not in the quality product business, they, like every other game company7 are in the skinner box design business. They don't need to treat us well, they can keep tens of thousands of people with borderline OCD addicted to pay their salaries. |

Use the skill queue next time. It's a new exciting feature that allows you to queue skills, so you are no longer affected by these unexpected DT extensions.
EDIT: Just for clarification. You don't have to wait the queue to finish before adding additional skills to it. |

The short downtimes have been spoiling me... Back in the Trinity days, when downtimes could be hours (or days) I used to just go to bed at DT :P
Now I'll be up until who knows when finishing AE4... or leaving it until tomorrow :)
And yes, Australia still gets the poo on the stick end of dt ;)

We are currently investigating the database issues which are causing the start up sequence to fail and hope to have these resolved quickly. In the meantime, Tranquility downtime has been extended to 13:00 UTC. |

Server eta downtime 4-6 hours, 8-12 hours later it would be back up.
You would not see a single post from ANY reps explaining any reasons for the extended DT, it would just be.
So patch days, everyone used to plan to not raid or even bother to come online, as you knew even if you were lucky, you may get 1-2 hours at the end of an evening, but then the servers would come down for an emergency fix again to deal with a load of other code they had broken.
Ah they were the days.....

went past that ages ago. Quick way to get traffic into quite 00 areas is to untouched systems ( PVE - PVP - jumps in 24 hours rat kills etc roids mined sites cleared) is to low sec direct wormholes into these 00 areas ( this can indirectly unnerf low sec as it would allow easier access to 00)

I had never done this over the last four years but after repeated delays around DT over the last month I've had enough.
This is my playtime for which I pay the same amount as everyone else who plays and yet CCP's repeated incompetence means I have whole sessions of play wiped out through no fault of my own.
Sort this **** out, Aussie and Asian players pay the same as anyone else.

I posted many times on SOE forums that I thought they should come up with a new formula for planed downtimes.
What the technicians expect the time to take, x3 and divide by 2.
Funny nuff they never answered lol.
As to whether CCP are any worse or better than any other MMORPG they are the same. They all have good and bad days.

It kind of reminds me of trying to start an old car..
Turn the ignition.. listen to the car complain for a few seconds.. then it fails to start. Out of the car, swear a few times, pop the hood, tinker with the battery, connection leads, poke a few other components in the engine, give it a kick, rinse and repeat....

In 2005-2006, europeans servers were especially sh***y. I remember all the free days of play I got during those times.
EVE online is a paradise of stability compared to that period of vanilla WoW.

Offer that Pizza to the Dev's to get the servers up, they will force it to work, if they have to hand carry the code to your computer. Pizza is a devs soft spot (well.. Beer and Pizza, for CCP).

Yeah... Most people have a narrow window to play in, ie after work and before sleep, and extended dt eats into the aussie/asian player far more than anyone.
Luckily the dt has been good of late, and the 30 minute dt is a great move for players here...
As I say, I gave up in the past and went to sleep early and then get up 4am and play until work time... less frustrating that way.

I have, played regularly since 2005, Everquest 2. Eve has more downtime in a week than I experienced in months "over there".

Well if we are going to be completely honest here, it really is not any ones fault. CCP at downtime didn't say "Lets make a few tens of thousand Eve players wait for an extra hour or so before we start the servers back up". There are things you cannot control. Yes it may have been a little more often recently but most tend to remember the bad rather than the good.
Most days you can log in within half an hour of the server going down which is pretty good.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Give CCP a break, the pro's far outweigh the con's.

This is so ****ed up, I dont even know where to start.
Mental note: NEVER schedule anything in-game that stretches across DT. Simply cant trust CCP to reliably know what they are doing.
Seems to always be a database issue. Maybe you should identify why this happens and adapt the system so that it can't happen, instead of frantically scrambling around every few days, trying to patch things up (until the next time it happens).

I have, played regularly since 2005, Everquest 2. Eve has more downtime in a week than I experienced in months "over there".
Then you definatly havent played eq2 lately, cause it wasnt long time ago an 8hour downtime turned into an 1.5day downtime...
And nowadays they have like 2-4hour downtimes, which turn into 4-8 hour ones, on a regular basis

Some people do the washing up during downtime, some people vacuum, some do the laundry. I like to have a midday snack of a pack of salt n vinegar crisps, then it's back to the mining. Unfortunately, I ma now on my 27th pack and quite frankly, I don't feel so good. Please take my health amd well being into account and get that server back up!

Well .. there wouldnt be multiple starup failures if they did know how to fix it now would there?
We would all be online by now if thats the case.
Im also assuming you never have had to troubleshoot a problem by trial and error, as you may have lacked certain knowledge about something and had to learn in the process?

Have to agree with that.
I mean Eve is a sandbox server game where are you going to find a place where you can have thousands of players on at one time. You are bound to get issues when running a server with that many people on.
CCP are doing thier best to get the servers back on line im sure....but the amount of whining and crying in this thread is rediculas.

i couldnt agree with you more, I pay by plexs have done for the last 2 years,
and yer the 0.0 lag fest is a bit rediculas but they tried to sort that out with the Dedicated node

I decided to make something to eat.
I made a really nice wholemeal salad roll.
I picked up a bag of cheese and onion crisps to go with it.
I got half way through the roll and realised that there was in fact mould all around it.
I dont feel like my crisps any more...

Since you set the downtim to half an hour, it very, really very, seldom has been within this timeframe.
Most of the time, you are late 7 to 10 minutes - or longer.
10 minutes out of 30 is a third.
This is not a good standard...

Sorry, but the moment CCP takes money to provide a service, it becomes a business.
I understand they are working hard and providing an excellent game but the downtime targets seem to be slipping a lot.
Personally, i want to get online and shoot things, but for some out there, their PI needs restarting, their manufacturing jobs need delivering and more starting, "Time is ISK" as they say.

Hi, I am new to the game.
Is there any way of recouping lost training time? I am not sure if I had more than a few hours of training set up this morning.
Secondly, is downtime always during the UK midday or is it rotated (28 hour day or something) so that downtime falls equally around the world - I only ask because I have a narrow window in which to play this game (I pay for) during the day, yet the downtime is always in that narrow window. Would seem fairer to revolve around the world in timezone increments.

I can understand things going wrong, the part that ennoys me is that they don't resolve the various issues caused due to game mechanics.
Issues such as sov loss/gained, index falling, missions expiring and various other issues that screw with peoples hard work.
Not angry, but wished they would concentrate on resolving instability, mechanics and tracking tools to tell refund/resolve issues after they have occured. Stop adding more features, just concentrate on stability.
However it is true that the game has improved over the years. Just saying.

Because they have a freaking downtime every day... No one should have a downtime every day. I work in IT and if our servers had to be restarted every day we would be getting new hardware or making our system techs work non-stop until they were working again.
Once a week would be fine, but WTF, 4% of the week is spent in Downtime minimum.

Because they have a freaking downtime every day... No one should have a downtime every day. I work in IT and if our servers had to be restarted every day we would be getting new hardware or making our system techs work non-stop until they were working again.
Once a week would be fine, but WTF, 4% of the week is spent in Downtime minimum.
Probably because they on Windows servers and leaking memory all over the place.

One gets the feeling that there are a healthy number of people in this thread that could benefit a bit from some sun light instead of the reflected light of a computer screen every once in a while...
Ask any IT professional out there that has real world expirence and they will all tell you that sometimes, no matter how careful you are, **** happens. When you deal with complex systems accessed by tens of thousands of people on a daily basis sometimes something goes wrong. From a personal and professional stand point I would rather CCP take the time to fix the problem properly and as quickly as possible, but not if it means half assing something along the way.

I am on vacation. Ordered a GTC today from SC, got it 10min after. Wanted to split it in plexes to give my 2nd account some time, too, but now i am pretty much ****ed. Bek here got time till 18.23. After that, i cannot login anymore.
CCP. Please. Fix the servers? I got only four days left on my vacation.

I work 6 hours, 4 hour break, then work 6 hours, then 8 off for sleep. Working on RAF Lakenheath doing hospital equipment maintenance...
Hence my 4 hour window to have some fun is important to me! Especially as I was reluctant at the idea of paying monthly for a game to begin with...

Everytime this happens, the comments in forums get overall more ****ed and more seriously dissapointed... if they dont fix it, i give eve maybe 2 years MAXIMUM before the active subs dont cover overheads...

Yep... even I'm lil dissapointed to CCP in their way of handling some issues (like b...ing), they still do very decent job on keeping servers online and game running smoothly.
There rarely has been really long downtimes even the servers would crash in middle of (their) night.
Few hours every few months doesnt change that fact.
Thank you and keep up the good work on this part.

At least this time CCP didn't kill off boot.ini on our computers with yesterday's 'hotfix'....
It gets pretty frustrating having to put up with CCP's shortcomings, and they keep adding on little by little.
In the very least I hope we get some free SPs, a lot of people don't have a 23 hour window to play EVE and some SPs at least offer some sort of a semblence of an apology and consolidation prize for not being able to log in.

Rather than simply posting that it would be over 4 hrs before the game would come online we continually drip feed expectations that the game would be up ôshortlyö. This started a cycle to ISP overloads which quickly brought the internet to its knees.
ôWe also found that real life productivity fell dramatically as people who played the game at work constantly checked the forums and loading page to see if the game was online yet. In some cases productivity ceased all together. We expect many to ôget sackedö
ôIn an added piece of information denial we crashed the forum pages causing further frustration.
ôReal life situation have been dramatic. Many have taken to ôtalkingö to family members. This has caused untold domestic fights and in some extreme cases divorce proceedings have been started.
ôWe also noticed a rise in internet traffic to access , shall I say, ôadultö sites which has again fueled the fail cycle of ISP overload and added in many cases to the reported instances of Divorce stated earlier.
ôOthers have simply sat at monitor screens waiting for a reconnection. In effect passively neutralized
ôEnergy companies have also felt the strain resulting form increased use of electrical equipment in homes in the effected areas. Many continually ping the game server whilst watching tv, boiling kettles ( mostly UK) and playing other games consoles all at the same time.
ôIn summary - one simple denial has had untold ramifications beyond simple game play.

Well they got to not accepting connections this time... so we can hope right? normally means that there in making certain their fix is actually working.. unless we suddenly see 'Restarting' again.
and Navigators said it's in testing mode.. *crosses fingers* They musta found Boo and put him back on the wheel.. I think he escaped to go play and be petted in Balders Gate for a bit..

I wouldn't mind so much, but people pay a fair amount to play this game each month, but I'm guessing those people won't be seeing any sort of compensation for losing the better part of an afternoon break to play a game they PAID for, will they.

Yup, CCP's up-time (accounting for the scheduled daily DT) for the EVE cluster appears to be very good.
Now if only they could do something about implementing a more responsive server resource allocation method when good fights happen to good people and there is neither time nor awareness enough to give 24 hours notice.

Hey CCP, thanks for ruining another AU primetime, other TZ players might not mind cause they were sleeping at the time and I understand that you have to do downtime during someones TZ. I know that you will say the training queue means that we didnt lose any training time but eve is 1 part trained skills and 1 part player skills obviously earned by PLAYING THE GAME. So to make up for it -
