It shows massive disrespect to our community and makes it painfully clear that Eve players are simply viewed as a cash cow to be relentlessly milked to fund other ventures.
The PR damage from this leak is immense in terms of broken trust and hurt feelings and it will take more than simple apologies to repair û I think the Eve community will need to see and be convinced that these terrible ideas will be abandoned so we can return to our subscription-based sandbox unthreatened by Gorden Gecko and his macro-transactional madness.
I believe you need to re-engage with Eve community via the CSM and devblogs, developer-chats etc and actively win us back at this point. I certainly need to hear that you are turning from the destructive path of greedy money-grubbing microtransactions for everything with one hand while you continue to take my subscription money with the other. I need to get my faith in CCP the company back.
5. Finally, the principle that microtransactions could be widened to include balance-breaking advantages for cash payments on top of the subscription is simply untenable in this environment. The impact of doing this will be many lost subscriptions to the perception you are double-charging people for content and breaking the gameplay integrity of the single server environment. You will spoil a gameworld that has been eight years in the making as the Noble Exchange has already begun to spoil our sensation of the sandbox and as the rushed incomplete terrible-looking CQ has damaged our collective suspension of disbelief.
If you must go down this route then Eve will eventually need to go free-to-play and you will have to exist entirely on microtransactions for everything. But I think we both know this is not going to fly. I strongly advise you to take the message back to the management that if you are short of cash simply look at upping the subscription fee rather than messing with the sandbox in this destructively short-sighted manner.
$70 dollar monocles or ôgold torpedoesö will not bring the crowds flooding into Incarna. People join games because they are original, accessible and fun. That is why World of Tanks works û not because the developers there are offering bling tank-decals for premium bucks!
CCP already have a unique IP in the worldÆs biggest single-server science-fiction simulation sandbox. Stop trying to copy the bloody fairy sparkle ponies in Wow! Put your minds back on Eve Online front and centre and finish the content we need finishing and stop trying to force-feed us with microtransaction-delivered immersion-breaking rubbish. You have a loyal and passionate player base right now. Work a bit at keeping us.
Monocle-gate has made CCP the laughing stock of the gaming industry.
Listening to the player base and stepping back from the egotistical insanities of the "greed-is-good" brink will be the one thing you can actually do that deserves to be called ôfearless" at this point.
Quoting this because it's exactly what we feel. Incarna has little less to do with it. It's the direction EVE is taking that is the big scare.

But outside of those limitations, we do the best we can.
... we convey both our personal opinions and player opinions to people in CCP. Some are receptive to the outside perspective, some are not.
As for what you should do to best express your opinion of recent events in New Eden, all I can tell you is that CCP pays more attention to what you do than what you say.

CCP have shown they are interested in money more than in the respect and opinions of their paying customers. As such we as a community have an opportunity to get a message to them very clearly.
To all the people saying they are un-subbing their accounts. Go and un-sub them. We will be sending them one of two messages today. The first, if we SAY we are un-subbing but donÆt, will be that we donÆt actually care and they can do or say whatever they like and we will continue to pay. The second, if we actually go and un-sub, will tell them in no uncertain terms that this is NOT ok and we arenÆt push-over n00bs to be trifled with.
Again, go and un-sub, when the CEO comes into work to find even 10% of accounts have been un-subbed they WILL reply and they WILL consider the repercussions of making changes like this.

- AUR = insta PLEX sink
- CQ = unusable. TURN IT OFF
- ATI NERF = criminal.
The most useless (to the players, not CCP) expansion to date. It's actually hard to fail at so many levels at once.

Well, a "lot" is an admitted overstatement. I was thinking specifically at the time though of the fact that _some_ people don't realize that NeX stuff on sale now can be purchased with in game ISK through purchasing PLEX.
It's a relatively small point, and I probably should have (a) been clearer or (b) not said anything at all.
Wrong. Please don't insult our intelligence. Even if you can buy plexes for in game ISK, plexes don't exist unless someone BUYS THEM. In other words, people can only buy plexes or plex based things (your unwanted and grossly overpriced cash shop) IF SOMEONE PAYS MORE THAN $15 FOR THE GAME. That someone can be you or someone else.
Don't you see that this represents crossing a HUGE line?
Prior to this, plexes were about game time. Someone trades ISK for game time. Someone trades game time for ISK. What you've done now is lock away part of the game and tell us that it is inaccessible without more than the subscription fee being sent.
Whether it's direct cash or not it amounts to the same thing.

Hi, Pann.
I have something to say, and it's not towards you but towards your whole damn company:
You guys sold out.
If you have cashflow problems, the least you could do was let the community know this and that selling out was the only way to fix the situation. If you don't have cashflow problems and did this out of pure greed, them **** all of you with a firehose. -- Eventus stultorum magister. |

Firstly, stop thinking this is a small issue associated with Aurum, MT, Captains Quarters and such. While each of those topics is indeed an issue to be debated in their own right, the broader issue is much larger and dwarfs these entirely.
As a long term paying customer, I have seen virtually no progress towards addressing key broken mechanics and unfinshed expansions over the past 2 years! Instead we continue to pay for low value, peripheral expansions that do nothing significant to enhance the game, and only adds more clutter and unfinished content.
All of these concerns were raised by the playerbase in the 18 months thread fiasco if not before then in many cases. Recently you've announced you are just starting to look at 0.0 and other gameplay aspects. So if we look at this as an example, and with your delivery record, I would be surprised to see any meaningful expansion to Eve within the next 1.5 years that goes anywhere near addressing player expectations.
In total, this represents an almost 4 year gap between you listening to and responding to your customers comments and feedback. 4 YEARS!
FOUR YEARS!
It's clear that your focus is on bringing in new players, but without fixing the core mechanics which keeps players here long term, you're just treading water. The vision and creativity which we saw and belived in years ago has long since faded and died. Today even the smallest of fixes is met with cheer given how low everyones expecations have settled (this alone should make you very concerned).
As an example, you could fix the Technetium issue over a single weekend if you actually got off your ass instead of ****ing about discussing how to finance other titles and spending years working on this Incarna disgrace. Get your ****ing priorities straight.

The worst thing in all of this is that since the Alpha, people like Soden Rah (and I) are telling CCP that they were going right into major problems if Incarna 1.0 was what we've seen on Sisi ... They laughed at us and told us that we were wrong, nobody will complain angainst CQ and Incarna 1.0 unfinished stuff.
Now here we are ...
Problem CCP ?

What kind of Parlay is this?
dude it takes time for a corporation to form responses, its not gonna be something they just throw up and end up having to correct again, they need to get with management etc and formulate responses....
especially since most of this if they do decide to fix is changes and adjustments in there "structure" of where there going...
perhaps they thought that the NEX prices would go ahead and be accepted and that they'd be able to suck plex off the market without a huge backlash... problem is the NEX prices werent accepted and they were insane...
Incarna is there baby that they've been working on so hard, but due to a mirad of small annoyances (like i mentioned above) now its become a sore spot where people just don't want it anymore.
They've had three days.
If as a company you cannot come up with a salvage plan for a PR disaster as bad as this in three whole days, you deserve to go under.

Edited by: Riithi Bashere on 24/06/2011 11:31:30 CCP simply stop selling lies and promises you cannot keep or are not willing to keep. A year ago you said no to MT, we as a community said no to MT. And now you throw in the most ridiculous MT system in any game EVER.
Truth in the matter is that I simply do not trust you guys anymore. Rewind back to fanfest 2009, you guys gave us a vision of how PI would be, compare to how it is now.
The direction of eve is just totally misguided, sure incarna is a nice idea and could make a nice addition to eve. But the big problem here is that EvE itself is in dire need of maintenance, on all levels, from top to bottom. So now you splash your cash on WoD and Dust123 and Incarna, instead of making sure your ONLY cash revenue is in tip-top form.
The internal pamphlet has shown us your real face where you plan to sell us services that where generally available before (storing 50+ fittings). Sure it may just be a suggested idea, but it clearly shows the direction you people want to take. To put it clear: we pay a subscription to play EvE... this is NOT a F2P game, offering services for additional money is a total no-go. Why? perception.. it's all in the eye of the beholder. We don't want to be screwed over, simple. So we pay a subscription so you guys can code a feature we can pay for... riiiight.
I personally feel that Dust514 is a total waste of resources, and this is why: The gameplay in dust514 will not be able to compete with the top-level games. It is insane to think that a company that has no experience with either shooters OR consoles can make a competitive FPS game for the consoles. The problem with online FPS's on the console is simply this, everyone flocks to where everyone is going, simply because their friends are there. Sure the link between eve and dust sounds great, and if this could be added to a really good FPS the results will be mindblowing. But the FPS has to have great gameplay, without it, it will just suck regardless.
@CCP: NO MT for non-vanity. Re-focus your attention to actual gameplay/ui/tech improvements in EvE. (FW,low-sec,null-sec,wh-space,ship-balance,god-awful UI,PvE so intersting you fall asleep, etc etcetc) Either drop WoD or Dust514 untill the other game is released and you actually have money to make it, right now you are diverting money from EvE to both of these games. Actually listen to your community, and give honest replies, we are THROUGH with apologies and lies and stonewalling.

Thanks you sir for having the balls to step up to the plate, even if you were pushed.
I take this reply as 'cancel as many subs as you can afford to and fill out the questionaire' My alt is now unsubbing. I urge anyone else who has an alt and can afford to unsub to please do the same. My personal issue is with AUR being used for purchases that will materially effect the gameplay.

Disappointed.
Not that my accounts are canceled over this thing alone. I was already having trouble finding motivation and small scale PvP in game with several breaks as a result. But I was always still hoping for things to come around. This was just the sign telling me "Yeah, it's time to move on and not look back". I'm not putting money into a product that no longer develops spaceship combat and strategy, but rather builds graphical environments where the main purpose seems to be to squeeze more money out of the "golden goose". I'm practically funding CCPs work to take more of the community's money with my own subscription. Well, not anymore.

Edited by: Vinifera on 24/06/2011 11:31:37 I think that this whole debacle (and quite a few of the other debacles over the last 2 years) shows that there is a systemic issue here at CCP. While I think CCP Hilmar and others have operated with the best of intentions, there has been a failure to perform at an executive level.
In most corporate situations a board of directors and the shareholders would look at this and say it is time for a change of management.
just sayin...
