I knew that things were odd with the last round since Celeste was paired up against an avatar who was rather odd looking. I'm sure that was a good reason why she did so well last counter reset compared to previous rounds.
On the other hand I had no idea that people out there thought she is an ugly avatar. 4 loses to 3 wins, and I think one of those wins is actually one of my votes. Ah well, at least most of my other avatars are actually doing well, and in some cases better than that last weird "locked" batch where my favorites did either extremely well or poorly. I am glad overall for the reset and am sure things will even out over time for an even better list than the last one. My favorite is still the one 3 resets ago (last being the character lock, and the one before being ruined by the voting spam, so the one before that with the previous victories listing) even though I didn't have a character in the top 10 for most of the run.
Actually I remember a bunch of negative votes (and just a ton of votes) for most of the avatars that I like at the beginning of each reset. I don't tend to visit the site any more or less throughout a cycle, so perhaps things will eventually settle down, |

Hey! So this is back! Love the site, and looking forward to more features. Going to waste a lot of time clicking here....
Thanks!!!
Edit: How about that feature where you can nominate people as twins? Apologies if this has been suggested before. In previous such sites, I enjoyed when you could start a competition between two characters based on one personality characteristic e.g. trustworthy, slimy, cute. |

I am planning to bring back Previous Matches in the near future. But this time hopefully with a better implementation. Instead of just last 5 matches, display a history of all matches with an infinite scroll support, sorted in chronological order.
Your avatar is far from being ugly. Many avatars in the Top leaderboard are no longer present. Nova Kierra is not even in Top 100 anymore. It is still to early to tell, there are only 38k votes compared to the half a million during the last round.

I hope that most people are docked in station when they are voting.
Rhatar Khurin wrote:If you change your avatar, does it update on the site? Just curious
Yes it uses your current avatar. It used to save a local copy, but I quickly ran out of database space when there were about 3000 characters.

Will take it in consideration. I was planning to add character traits feature, but doing a competition between other characters for a particular trait seems more involved and I need to think it through how easy or difficult it would be to implement it. Thanks for your suggetion. I always liked that idea on a character voting website for EVE Online that used to be active about 2 years ago. Give it and some time and scores will adjust over time. Right now there are many characters with the wins/losses that you mentioned. If your score 16-3 is the same as hundred other characters, there is no particular order in which they will be displayed. New Eden Faces -> www.newedenfaces.com |

Thanks again for this ridiculously addictive website. I just wanted to share some issues I am having out of courtesy.
Arduemont here has 18 wins and 6 losses, which should place him above 95th on the top male 100, but he's not showing up there. Also, the page times out (with 'Proxy Error') when I try to load any race specific (as opposed to bloodline specific) male leaderboard. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

Thanks for the bug report. I was not aware about that Proxy Error. It works fine locally, so I can only assume it's on the hosting's side. As a workaround I have switched to hash URLs, which is the default routing mechanism in Backbone.js, e.g. http://www.newedenfaces.com/#stats
As for your top 100 placement, you weren't in it because there are too many other characters with the same # of wins. The cut off point is a hundred characters. Sorting by winning percentage is calculated on the fly after 100 characters sorted by wins are retrieved. If MongoDB database could sort by function expressions such as the one for calculating the winning percentage, this wouldn't be an issue. It only allows to sort by actual fields: losses, wins, name in ascending or descending order.
Until I come up with a better solution I have increased a cut off point to 150 characters, sort them by winning percentage and then return top 100 from those. Same goes for leaderboard, the cut off point is now 18 characters, sort by winning percentage, return top 12. New Eden Faces -> www.newedenfaces.com |

That was quick, nice work. At the time that I posted last Arduemont had 18 wins and 6 losses (or whatever) and there were people in the top 100 with 18 wins and 7 losses. I expect it's a problem that wont last long anyway once the wins and losses get higher and there are much fewer people with identical scores. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

It's interesting to see some old familiar faces at the top from the days of Babes of New Eden. Crystal Avalon, Ariel Dawn, and FiberFly to name a few.
It's surprising that more of them aren't near the top. Like Kara Jordan or Brit Green for example. If House played Eve: http://i.imgur.com/y7ShT.jpg |

I remember those characters being in top spots back in the day when there were only ~1000 characters. But with 6000+ characters, competition is now much bigger. Most characters in Top 100 right now deserved to be there, in my opinion. But not all - instead of Nicole Jung, yue ju, Death Cell or Celeste Taylor should be in those spots. Thanks Nova. I notice our avatars tend to climb and descend on these charts together. There are a few others like Riot Girl, Eternal Sophia and Private Panacan who seem to travel up and down with us. Part of the issue is that people like us don't vote against avatars just to keep them from the top. So over the last week there are a bunch of great looking avatars above us (who I don't have the heart to vote against) who have until yesterday had perfect scores. As of I believe yesterday I have started to see some votes against the top circle though, so I believe either a bitter voter just noticed that the counter was reset or someone wants to pull ahead from all those near perfect scores. I do agree that the top 100 is starting to shape well though since most of the avatars that I vote for are there, despite a number of absent ones due to negative voting.
It is weird how fast the males are dropping though. I still believe it has to do with the fact that it is harder to agree with what makes a good looking male avatar. For example I will occasionally vote for one with a facial tattoo (rarely do this for female avatars) but it does look like the community dislikes facial tattoosl, so in effect voting for them will lower the overall top scores for male avatars. It is also easier for me to choose an amazing or hideous female avatar, while often I am at a loss when deciding which male looks better.

As of I believe yesterday I have started to see some votes against the top circle though, so I believe either a bitter voter just noticed that the counter was reset or someone wants to pull ahead from all those near perfect scores or fell off that top ranks due to normal voting. For the most part though I think that most of us who are not on the top 100 but have not voted against the top over the past week are part of the nice people group and eventually will make it to the ranks again. I do agree that the top 100 is starting to shape well though since most of the avatars that I vote for are there, despite a number of absent ones due to negative voting.

edit: I love the statistics page. I would think that the "Leading Race" should be leading bloodline, especially if this is an easy change or addition. The three bloodlines for each race have so little (physically) in common and the groupings feel rather arbitrary for the site. It is also funny to see the most recently added list since most of them are terrifying with a few great looking ones. Why do people add avatars that don't have a associated image to them?
edit: of course it wouldn't be a big stretch to think that someone actually doesn't like our avatars and prefer girls with huge assets or radical hairstyles and piecing. It just seems weird that there are some avatars who are somewhat similar in qualities who do not have many negative votes which makes it feel a bit more personal.
It's funny you mention Eternal Sophia. That used to be my character in 2009 until I sold her about 6 months later. That was before the 3D character creator, so I am not responsible for her current look.
I can add leading bloodline to statistics page as well, it's not too much work. Anything else you would like to see on the stats page?
There is a small update incoming shortly that will make overall website a little more stable.
