That's correct I have changed the leaderboard sorting by number of wins because people with no rating or only 1-2 wins were in the top ranks.
Thanks everyone for the feedback, here' s coming in the next update:
- The entire character list will no longer be loaded when you open the website. Instead only 2 characters will be displayed at a time. More requests will be made to the database but in return you'll have much faster initial loading times. I've heard reports where the site could take 13 seconds to load before you see anything. As more characters are added, it takes longer to load the page. There are now over 1500 characters in the database.
- Top leaderboards for each race, within that - for each bloodline.
- Keyboard shortcuts for voting left or right avatar. I was thinking A = left avatar, D = right avatar, or that plus left/right arrows.
- Skip button limit : 10 skips per hour.
- Timer that will automatically deleted lowest rated character each week or every 3 days. It's arbitrary, just have to be careful not to overdo it to the point where a year from now, half of the characters database will be deleted.
- Matching system will match similarly ranked people based on the win/loss ratio.
- Single server request per vote. The gap between wins and losses has slightly widened due to dropped wins or losses requests. From 48,000 votes, there are 49 more wins than losses. Both numbers should be equal.
- Add a small counter that displays a total number of characters on the website.
- Index database by character Id for faster querying. Add file indexing on GridFS for faster image loading.
- Convert existing images that still point to CCP servers to use local database instead. I have noticed significantly longer loading speed for images that still point to old URL. This means either: a) The CCP server are extremely busy right now or, b) The CCP has throttled bandwidth for image requests that come www.newedenfaces.com domain.

CHANGELOG JUN 18, 2013
You may now press A or Left Arrow and D or Right Arrow to vote for your favorite avatar!
Search bar displays total number of characters currently on the website.
Top 100: Overall, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar, Amarr, +3 bloodlines per each race.
Bigger thumbnails, grayscale mouseover effect, large position font on Top 100 page.
Optimized search queries: smaller requests, faster page loading times.
All images are now stored on GridFS; now 100% independent from CCP servers.
Leaderboard / Top 100 is now sorted by Win/Loss Ratio once again.
Profile page now displays a more accurate Win:Loss ratio instead of a percentage. Formula is pretty straightforward: wins divided by losses.
Matching is now managed by the server, you will not see the same portrait until all 1500+ avatars have been voted for. Good news is that you don't have to do it all by yourself. Whenever you or someone else votes, skips or refreshes the page, it moves the "cursor" to the next avatar. This process repeats until it passes the total number of characters, after which it resets back to 0.
As some of you have suggested, now characters will be matched with similar win/loss ratio. To make it a little more random, matching won't be just between 2 adjacent avatars, but based on a radom number from 1 to 10. In other words, #1 avatar will be matched with a random avatar up to 10 ranks below.
Every 24 hours the lowest ranked character will be deleted from the database. ------- Creator of New Eden Faces -> www.newedenfaces.com |

Awesome site. Nice to see you uploaded the source code for curious developers like myself to scratch my head over.

There was a bug, that would crash the server when list of characters returned are less than 10 (towards the very end). Why do I need 10 characters from the database when there's only two characters that get displayed? To randomize and pair similarly ranked characters. I quickly fixed that problem, but then I noticed that after you vote for everyone you only reach up to a ~1000 people, instead of 1503. I am not sure how or why, so instead I temporarily rolled it back to simpler matching system: two adjacent pairs, e.g. #1 vs #2, #3 vs #4, #506 vs #507, etc... It's not that bad, just less predictable. Creator of New Eden Faces -> www.newedenfaces.com |

Seriously!
Some skank is now in first place by over 300 votes. Script much?
It sucks that someone with the best of intentions can spend the time to put a fun site like this one together, only to have it ruined by the sociopathic player base. Guys, are you that desperate to rank in the top ten?
You know something is wrong when Mr Epeen is in the top 20. I shouldn't even be in the top one hundred.

It's disappointing to see people abusing the system when the site was meant to be used for fun. Next update will likely put a IP-address based limit on the skip button and avatar matching will go back to being random rather than rating-based.
Currently, as you may have noticed, someone can easily skip all 1500 characters, and keep voting for the same character over and over again, or write a script to do it. Creator of New Eden Faces -> www.newedenfaces.com |

OK - I will let you in on a little secret. I know the person that is manipulating the rating of a character to #1. She is a very dear friend of mine and she didn't write a script. It is a browser glitch. She found it easily. It is not her toon however, it is another persons. So do not blame Braeda Darro.
Anyway, she decided to make a point that your web program for your website is borked. Your website is easily manipulated due to the very nature of your system. People were manipulating it from the start. Up voting their toons and down voting others. Look at Brit Green and Commissar Kate. They were in an up and down voting match.
One of the things that is wrong is that the same characters were popping up over and over again and others were not even showing up. How is that fair? Also, putting a skip button in is wrong. Allowing people to flip past and only vote for the character they liked.
It is cool that you created this website.
Maybe you should re-think how voting takes place or just remove voting entirely and allow people to just look at characters and make comments. Just a suggestion. :)
People in EVE are very competitive and they'll do whatever it takes to win. It seems to be the nature of the the player base. Ponies!-á We need more ponies! |

I've been keeping an eye on this thread but I've refrained from posting until now as I wanted to see how things would pan out. My first instinct was that your website would cause some drama and it has managed that. It doesn't bother me that I was #3 a few days ago and I'm now somewhere near the bottom along with many great avatars, as I suspected this would happen.
What I find funny is that people would go to all this effort to try manipulate the results. The site is meaningless. There is no prize, no reward, no fame. It's just a fun little site which is viewed by a very limited audience and there is nothing to be gained by being #1. The fact people have gone to so much effort to manipulate something so insignificant is hilarious and depressing. Anyway, I hope you find a way to fix your site. It's a nice idea and I know many people appreciate the effort you've put in. Oh god. |

Girl you fine. Let the haters hate and the cheaters cheat.
On another note, it is entirely unfair to male avatars. I know from my own personal experience that if a male and female avatar are put up against the other, I'll click the girl no matter what. Because clicking the dude might make me question my own sexuality and I've already been to University.

Yes, and you did win when it did count I do also like the new look for Ariel Dawn. It is fun to see people switch up their avatars. I resculpted this character 6 or 7 times at the end of last year when the option became available. By the last couple I noticed I was just flipping back and forth between very minor details and freckles that could only be seen in side by side comparisons so I think this will be it for now.
The most important thing is for you to like your character's look. We all have different traits that we find attractive and it is not surprising if the rest of the player base do not agree with you. I tend to go for the no cheekbone and a very dainty jawline look. I'm also a fan of noses and deep set eyes so Gallente/Gallente was an easy choice. I believe the female Sebeistor, Civire, and Achura features however, tend to be more popular amongst players. |

Nova, you may want to use a nonce generated for a particular comparison, with an expiration. When the winner is selected, PUT the win to a queue resource with the nonce. There are a few things you need to check to avoid abuse:
- Did you serve up the comparison?
- Is the vote corresponding a served comparison?
- Has the served comparison been skipped or voted on (invalidating the nonce)?
Make sure you do the tallying on the server side, not in your client code. Also, set a reasonable expiration on a candidate set (or the nonce that represents it). |

I don't think people were actually abusing it (at least I didn't see major vote inflation when I looked at it a couple hours before it went down); being stateless was a pretty obvious flaw though.
