It would be nice if you could categorize it into both men and women. Having an all time favorites gets boring over time, so in addition to that, it would be awesome to have a more dynamically updating system similar to 500px.com (it's a photo sharing site) where we could see new faces everyday based on short term popularity trends. Unfortunately I have no idea how 500px.com's popularity algorithm works so you'll probably have to create your own.

Once upon a time some guy made character portrait for the original portrait games. Since there was no CQ at that time he didn't care about the fact that his character, while hot, had a fat ass and no boobies. As time passed he wanted a new character and found that it gave him the heebie jeebies to look upon the hot, fat assed character he made so long ago. So he made another one that was similar but had a decent body.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it

The hosting provider is experiencing some technical difficulties. Hopefully they will come back up soon.
As for the "head to head" matches, I like the idea and it shouldn't be too difficult to implement!

While I could manually separate male and female avatars, in the long term it's not going to work out. I could also add a gender radio button when adding a character, but it relies solely on the truthfulness of people. Nothing will prevent you from adding a male avatar and selecting a female checkbox.
To determine character's gender with 100% accuracy, I'll need everyone's full API which is not practical - because who wants to give out their API keys just for some avatar contest website!

On New Eden Faces there is a fixed number of total characters and I just don't see a good way to translate "trending" algorithm to newedenfaces.com project. What I could do is reset leaderboard every week/biweekly to keep it somewhat changing.

Since I was selling my CEO and needed a new one, I actually logged into Brit for the first time in forever.

I thought I'd take a look in the mirror and see if I could fix the lighting a bit. I got a pop up asking if I'd like a re-sculpt! Well, as it happened, I did want one.

Now I have the body to go with the face. Woot!

Sorry guys I've been busy with some real life stuff and I was not able to fix the errors that caused the crash who knows when. I just found out why I was hitting the "Exceeded disk quota". My log file was accidentally printing all 2500 characters into a text file on each request.

After bringing the server back for 5 minutes, the brand new log file was already at 11 megabytes. It's a lot of megabytes for a website that is less than 1 mb in total.

I am currently working on the improvements I have mentioned earlier. In addition I have considered the gender-separated voting and think that's a good idea. For that I am going to need a few trusted volunteers who can set a gender to existing characters.

For future character adds I am considering whether there should be an approval process signed off by me once a day, or have a report button next to character's name, in the case when opposite gender is encountered .

UPDATE

Many bugs have been fixed, added gender support, as someone has suggested I have added sorting by winning percentage for the top 14 and top 100 but first they are sorted by number of wins, this prevents new players with 100% winning percentage to be in top ranks.

Added previous matches on character summary page that shows a list of 2 avatars per row, winner of the vote highlighted in green, loser of the vote highlighted in red. It's still in basic shape, but good enough for now.

Added notifications for report button, report threshold has been lowered from 10 to 3.

Sometime this week, once everything is ready I will push the update live.
