Edited by: Six Anari on 05/05/2006 13:40:41 Announcing to the public, for the first time: EVEMon - An easy-to-use, lightweight character monitor and skill planner
EVEMon has been in development for quite some time now, as Goonfleet's own skill manager. But now, the time has come for it to be unleashed upon the rest of the EVE Universe.
- Easy To Use: Just download, install and enter your information or point to a saved character XML file to get started. It just works.
- Live Displays: All skill and training time displays throughout EVEMon are live. They automatically update as your training progresses.
- Fully-Featured Skill Planning: Everything you'd expect from a robust skill planner, including Learning skills auto-suggestions, implant effectiveness calculators, graphical skill trees, and more.
- Customizable Displays and Output: Columns in the skill planner are fully customizable; character info and plans can be saved in numerous formats, including plain text, HTML and XML; the monitor and skill planner can be run in "work safe" mode to disable images and colors for easier use in places you shouldn't be running EVEMon (you naughty thing, you).
- Skill Templating and Sharing: Skill templates can easily be created and shared with other EVEMon users, each template automatically personalizes to include all necessary skills when a template is loaded.
- Personalized Event Notifications: Send email, play sound files and more when skill training completes.
- Windowed EVE Relocation: If you play EVE on a multi-monitor system, EVEMon can reposition windowed EVE automatically to fill a monitor of your choice.
- Modular: Features you don't use, don't load.
- Open Source: You don't have to trust me when I say EVEMon is safe and secure, you can verify it for yourself. If you're not a programmer yourself, you can still benefit from the trust of scores of people who have already read over the EVEMon source code. You're fully encouraged to tinker with EVEMon, and even submit improvements back for inclusion in the main source tree.
- Actively Developed: Changes are checked into the EVEMon source tree every day, and new features are added constantly. If EVEMon doesn't do it today, it very well could tomorrow. EVEMon regularly checks for updates and offers the optional to automatically install them when they're available.
I could go on and on, but the screenshots can speak for themselves. Any and all comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated, and encouraged; whether praise or flames. EVEMon is where it is today because of the feedback provided by hundreds of goons -- hopefully it can get to even greater heights on the feedback of EVE-O at large. :)
You can get the latest release of EVEMon here.

This is truly an awesome application, and the best skill planner/character manager I have seen. It is lightweight, sits in my taskbar, and lets me monitor multiple accounts at once.
I have used this for a while, and I am glad that Six is releasing this to the community.
EDIT: Please check out the screenshots to get an idea of how awesome this application is.

Please rain ISK upon this man for his amazing work. It first started with the ability to check training times, which was nice enough, but with the skill planner it made it absolutely amazing. And the great thing about it is, it always works, unlike another character manager which will remain unnamed.
100% Recommended.

Been using this for a while now and I've got nothing but positive things to say. The ship browser has the beautiful function that will tell you how long it takes to train for a certain ship (just flight skills, no fitting or gunnery).
Memory footprint for me is just shy of 30 megs most of the time and I make a point of keeping it running 24/7. Great download. :)

Wonderful little program; robust, unobtrusive and open source. Ended up being the perfect monitor for me. Bugs are fixed and updates are put out at staggering rate.

Edited by: Valarkin on 05/05/2006 15:16:04 Looks quite wonderful.
A question though: How do I get it to update if I change the currently training skill?
For example, I stopped training Industry V to follow the suggestions EveMon made, but it still shows Industry V as the currently training skill.
Great work though, truly.

Originally by: Valarkin EDIT: NM, I found it, click the sunburst looking thingy in the top right corner of the app window. Woot.
You can click that to force an update, but keep in mind that EVE-O caches your character data for an hour, so even when you click for a manual update, it still might show the old skill being trained, or other old character info. The timer next to the sunburst shows how much longer your character stats are cached on the EVE-O servers; so when that counts down to 0 and EVEMon automatically grabs new character info, you can be pretty well assured that any changes will show up. (Though I've gotten reports that they're sometimes caching your ISK balance for even longer, several days in some cases!)

Hmmm, mightn't it be better to override the cache in the case of a manual update?
Still, I do think this is one very slick program. Three atta-boys to the dev team.

The cache can't be overridden, it's put in place by CCP to keep the load on the cluster down. If you check out your character info on the website you'll see the older data there, too. EVEMon does set your SP total back and everything when it finally gets fresh data though, so there's no long term side-effects.

Show Info on a Retriever in game is showing me Mining Barge III and Astrogeology IV, so does the ship database on the website.
edit: Astrogeo III is required for Mining Barge III, but the Retriever requires Astrogeo IV on top of that. The ship browser in EVEMon only shows the root skills needed for the ship, the prereq skills are implied. :)

1) I Love this program. I'd send a donation, but my total worth is probably less than you make in an hour.
2) Load from file is not quite right.
If I load a character from file whose name does not match the account name, it will throw a null in CalcSkillRemainText, since there is no CharLoginInfo. If you bypass that, the skill tree still won't load, and none of the data, including name, will be right. I'll dig a little more :)

I've been using this program for a few months now and I have to say this is SO much better than the Eve Character Manager. It loads quick, and if there is a problem, it is usually fixed within a week.
Try it, and if you like it, give this fine programmer your Isk.

Edited by: Lickety on 05/05/2006 19:15:03 Looks very nice and was even able to make it work for a short while. Two comments though.
1. When adding a character from a saved XML file, if the account has more than 1 character, and the character is not in the first position of the XML file, EVEMon will raise an exception.
2. Settings should probably be saved to a file and not to the registry or wherever you have it hiding. Easier to manually recover from #1 during this testing phase.
edit: dug some and discovered the real condition of the exception...

There are several different save formats for both characters and plans. Select from the "Save as Type" dropdown that's in the save dialog, right below where you type in a filename. The HTML is kinda ugly at the moment, but it'll look better when I come up with a decent template.

I just installed this app, it is wonderful! I am curious about the server for the IGB, is that supposed to only work in the IGB, or should I be able to view it with any browser? Great program and has very useful features. Thank you!
Bad news is that I managed to make it crash :) I have the debug message:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at EVEMon.Common.EveSession.AddImageToCache(String url, Image i) in C:\Documents and Settings\Tim Fries\Desktop\EveCharacterMonitor\EVEMon.Common\EveSession.cs:line 503 at EVEMon.Common.EveSession.<>c__DisplayClass6.<GetImageAsync>b__3(EveSession s, Image i) in C:\Documents and Settings\Tim Fries\Desktop\EveCharacterMonitor\EVEMon.Common\EveSession.cs:line 465 at EVEMon.Common.EveSession.GotImage(IAsyncResult ar) in C:\Documents and Settings\Tim Fries\Desktop\EveCharacterMonitor\EVEMon.Common\EveSession.cs:line 529 at System.Net.LazyAsyncResult.Complete(IntPtr userToken) at System.Net.ContextAwareResult.CompleteCallback(Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.runTryCode(Object userData) at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.RuntimeHelpers.ExecuteCodeWithGuaranteedCleanup(TryCode code, CleanupCode backoutCode, Object userData) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Net.ContextAwareResult.Complete(IntPtr userToken) at System.Net.LazyAsyncResult.ProtectedInvokeCallback(Object result, IntPtr userToken) at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.SetResponse(Exception E) at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.SetAndOrProcessResponse(Object responseOrException) at System.Net.ConnectionReturnResult.SetResponses(ConnectionReturnResult returnResult) at System.Net.Connection.CompleteConnectionWrapper(Object request, Object state) at System.Net.PooledStream.ConnectionCallback(Object owningObject, Exception e, Socket socket, IPAddress address) at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketCallback(IAsyncResult asyncResult) at System.Net.LazyAsyncResult.Complete(IntPtr userToken) at System.Net.ContextAwareResult.Complete(IntPtr userToken) at System.Net.LazyAsyncResult.ProtectedInvokeCallback(Object result, IntPtr userToken) at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.ConnectCallback() at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.RegisteredWaitCallback(Object state, Boolean timedOut) at System.Threading._ThreadPoolWaitOrTimerCallback.PerformWaitOrTimerCallback(Object state, Boolean timedOut)
What I did (as I remember): First I installed new .NET runtime libraries (no problems with that). I downloaded the binary zip version and started it. EVEMon wanted to connect to some site, but I denied the access from the firewall. I was checking different things from the skill planner and then opened the ship browser. I opened Assault Ships->Minmatar->Jaguar, glanced at the info and the error message was displayed. Picture of the ship was missing. I guess this has something to do with me denying EVEMon's access from the firewall and the url-string was not set.
Another small thing, ship browser has some tags showing incorrectly. Under the image (which is black at the moment) are fields Name, Hull and Role. "Hull" and "Role" have these <b> and </b> blocks around them. Also EVEMon installation zip (atleast the binary version) has some PDB-files, which aren't needed (atleast in release version, I guess).
But, great application and many thanks!

Originally by: Nate D awesome, thanks for the save as info... now for the ftp uploader is that planned?
I can look into what's involved. It'll get prioritized depending on how complicated it is. :p
Originally by: Podme Imanoob I just installed this app, it is wonderful! I ask because I am at work ATM and installed the program, but cannot access the server on http://localhost/. And yea, its turned on in the settings hehe.
Only works from the IGB currently, you'll just get a blank page from a normal browser, because it doesn't know which character to present plans for.
Originally by: Mantes Baraka EVEMon wanted to connect to some site, but I denied the access from the firewall.
EVEMon tries to connect to four domains in total:
1. myeve.eve-online.com -- to retrieve your character data when you're using live updates 2. www.eve-online.com -- to download ship images 3. img.eve.is -- to download character images 4. evemon.evercrest.com -- to download a "latest version" file so it knows when to provide you with the option of upgrading. If you block this at your firewall, you'll need to check for updates yourself.
It sounds like you might have prevented EVEMon from connecting to #2 above. Obviously it shouldn't have caused a crash and I've fixed it for the next release; but with it blocked you won't see ship images either.
You can safely delete the PDB files if you like (it won't save memory or anything). I left them in the distribution because it makes EVEMon generate a much more detailed error description, including source file names and line numbers which makes it a lot easier to track down reported problems.

Me again...
Would it be possible to implement:
1) Removing skills from the queue by highlighting (singly or in a group) and hitting delete? 2) Adding skills to the queue by double clicking? The current: select, right click, select is kinda tedious.
and
It seems the algorithm for suggesting skills drops the ball when it comes to the Advanced learning skills... I managed to shave 2 hours off the queue time simply by reordering it according to This List by Tripoli. Mind you, it was 2h saved over a total span of 24days 17hours, but I thought you'd like to know.

also this is after using the xml version, which doesnt save the info of the current skill being trained, so i assume the pop up saying "skill completed" as shown in your screenshots cant happen ?

Edited by: Mike Yagon on 06/05/2006 10:22:52 Reckon it's possible to popup a window that alerts me when my skill is nearly complete, like, 5 minutes in advance? That'll allow me to log on and change my skill on time without having to do any tedious email waiting. :)
Ah and maybe allow me to access the localhost server through my LAN as well. Currently getting connection refused if I try and access it through my PC which is running EVE. I use my laptop for skill planning and stuff.

Originally by: Muaddid also this is after using the xml version, which doesnt save the info of the current skill being trained, so i assume the pop up saying "skill completed" as shown in your screenshots cant happen ?
That's correct. That notification can only pop up when it's using live data it grabs from EVE-O itself.
I'm going through with a fine tooth comb to dig out the NullReferenceException errors when you're using a saved XML instead of live data. The ability to use Saved XML was a pretty recent addition into the code base so it's still a little rough around the edges, but I'll probably push out an update today that fixes it.
And for the +4 and +5 implants not showing in your character info, I'll add an interface that will let you manually add implants to your character, so at least you can stick them on there yourself.

How do i get around this?

Are you letting EVEMon get the character data directly from EVE-O, or did you load up a saved character XML file? A lot of features can only work when it's getting the data itself.

does that mean it constantly asks the server for data almost? there was once a char manager that did that and it turned out it was causing alot of issues with the server at the time.

As I understand it from my (brief) reading of the source and watching the program, it seems that EVE-O's cache only updates every hour anyway. The rest is just EVEMon ticking off the seconds on your current skill, and checking the online XML file in an hour.
So, no. ----------

No, it checks hourly. But saved character XML files don't contain any information about what skill you're currently training; nor are they generally updated often enough for keeping track of what you're currently training to be of any use anyway.

Very nicely presented program.
I'd like to suggest a number of features.
Report features, like getting a list of all your skill levels compressed into a few lines. (eg 78 Level 5 skills, 100 level 4 skills, etc....)
That +5 or higher implant feature would be really nice, since it calcs everything wrong for me, since I have all +5s.
Being able to sort the skill list, from top to bottom, by training time, so you can see the fastest skills that can be improved.
I really like your approach to the skill monitor program, very slick presentation. I like the way you can queue up at a click of a button the skills required to use a ship, perhaps an option for modules could be added??
10M isk coming your way for your efforts. This was what I was hoping that Eve Character Manager would evolve to. However, it's been so long it seems that utility has died.

I think he said he's working on a module skill calculator. Like, next major patch, or something. Not sure though.
The sorting thing is, I think, coming in the next patch too.
As for the implants, best thing I figure to work would be to put whatever you're training into a plan all it's own, then open the Implant calculator and set them all to +5 to see what difference it makes. Not a permanent solution, and not perfect, but it's better than nothin' ;)
(edit) Yep, the module dependency planner was mentioned at the top of this page ----------

If that happens, you can either run the installer from a command prompt and pass the /SKIPDOTNET command line parameter, or just download the binaries ZIP instead of the installer.

Something else must have done that. The only thing the uninstall script does is delete the directory EVEMon was installed into, the start menu entries, and its registry settings.
edit: You mentioned it was installed in Program Files, not Program Files/EVEMon... ooo yeah, that's a bad place for it to be. I'm not sure why you'd install it right into the root program files directory, but I'll put in some failsafes to prevent something like that from happening again.

Thats the point. It was installed to D:/Program Files (thankfully a seperate drive where i just keep a second eve install, fraps, char manager and winamp. It was in the program files folder not program files/eve mon, when it uninstalled it took most of everything else there with it.
What it was doing there im not sure, not feeling up to checking where it installs by default but whatever the case it needs to be changed to only touch its own files.

If you go to "C:\Program Files\EVEMon\Debugging Tools", there's a shortcut in there labelled "EVEMon (with network logging)". Start EVEMon using that shortcut and try to login while the log is running, then shutdown EVEMon and you can either look over the log file yourself, or email it to me and I can try to figure out what's wrong.

Edited by: Sigos on 07/05/2006 18:34:10 Idea: How about an option to merge plans.
I just made a few sets of plans in order to choose a couple to use. I found two that would go well together and realized a few things. There is a little overlap between the plans, meaning that the training time is shorter than the sum of their individual times. The added training time might make it economical to add in another level of a training skill at the beginning. I can sort the skills more easily if I have both merged.
Also, it might be nice to display the rank of a skill on its info screen instead of having to look at the queue.

Excellent program. However, I seem to be having a problem after updating to the latest version (it worked yesterday...), where it keeps insisting that it "Could not log in to EVE Online with that username/password."
I've tried typing and retyping it in many times, with the same answer (and I can log into the game, as well as these forums with the same username and password.) I stopped using ECM a while ago, as it had this same problem...
Is this a bug, or do programs like this just not like my password?

I actually tried that, and found it logged in with no problems (as in, the log showed it starting to grab some webpage somewhere... saw a bunch of HTML code or something.) Just tried it again, and it logged in with no issues whatsoever.
Maybe it's just a time of day thing Either way, it's an awesome program.

It should use whatever is configured in Control Panel > Internet Options, and should support both basic and NTLM proxy authentication. (Though I haven't tested it myself.)
Originally by: Miss D'Eath also.. is there a suggestion button only when there is something or can it be visiable permanently and triggered by user
The suggestion link automatically appears only when there's actually a suggestion to be made. If it's not showing up, your plan isn't long enough that the additional training time that would need to be invested into Learning skills would pay off by lowering the overall training time. If it's going to take you 10 days to learn Analytical Mind V, for instance, it needs to be of enough benefit to shave at least 10 days off the rest of your training to pay for itself before EVEMon will suggest it.

Nice app. Clean and easy to use.
The only thing I can't seem to find is the fitting allocation for the Items. It would be nice to see in the info pane whether it's a high, med or low slot for those of us who don't have the fittings memorized.
Thanks.

As a suggestion.
It would be great if skills already at level 5 could be removed from the skill browser. To reduce the number of skills you have to browse through when planning training.

This information wasn't part of my original item data dump, but will definately be part of the dataset before the ship fitting tool is added.

This is in the next version as a new filter in the skill browser, "Trainable Skills"; which will limit the skill list to skills that you currently know all the prerequisites for and are not yet level 5.

WinXP - no other known apps running local servers. Did have Adobe Version Que, but I disabled that. Other than this minor glitch which I belive to be on my end, this is a very nice app.
Skill Plan for TheShaz
1: Spaceship Command III (3 hours, 58 minutes, 3 seconds; Start: 5/10/2006 3:30:15 AM; Finish: 5/10/2006 7:28:19 AM) 2: Caldari Frigate IV (2 days, 9 hours, 8 minutes, 54 seconds; Start: 5/10/2006 7:28:19 AM; Finish: 5/12/2006 4:37:13 PM) 3: Caldari Cruiser I (57 minutes, 31 seconds; Start: 5/12/2006 4:37:13 PM; Finish: 5/12/2006 5:34:44 PM) 4: Caldari Cruiser II (4 hours, 27 minutes, 55 seconds; Start: 5/12/2006 5:34:44 PM; Finish: 5/12/2006 10:02:40 PM) 5: Caldari Cruiser III (1 day, 1 hour, 15 minutes, 19 seconds; Start: 5/12/2006 10:02:40 PM; Finish: 5/13/2006 11:17:59 PM)
5 skills; Total time: 3 days, 19 hours, 47 minutes, 43 seconds; Completion: 5/13/2006 11:17:59 PM
See.....didn't take long to play with it.

OMGWTFPWNBBQ's the competition when it comes to skill managers.
my only minor grip is the use of .NET 2.0 which has a relitivly low spread atm the moment when the same is posible in .NET 1.1. Thats just a matter of MS promoting rather than what the developer needs to do.
PS anyone know how to un install the .NET framework 2.0 Beta with out a CD ?

Currently it only works when accessed from the IGB -- accessing it from a regular browser will only result in a blank page.
If that doesn't help, try opening up a command prompt and do a "netstat -an", and look for a line near the top of the list of Proto "TCP", Local Address "127.0.0.1:80", Foreign Address "0.0.0.0:0", State "LISTENING". If that's there when EVEMon is not running, it means something else is already using the port ("netstat -abn" will tell you what). There's no workaround for that yet, but the IGB-Miniserver may be getting some overhauling to make it more powerful and it'll have options to work around that sort of thing.

Six - Thanks for the quick reply!
It would be cool for the server to have options like port usage. There are about 8 of us at work that play this game. Our IT Dept has things locked down but there are a few ports we can use. Bummer but understandable that CCP will not allow training to be started from the outside but a queue function would be nice for them. EveMon is a nice app - loved how it suggested options to save time.
I will try your suggestions when I get home.

Some sort of "stacking" in the plan window would be nice, so instead of listing training of skill level 1-5 on 5 lines, it would be just 1 line.
Being able to see the description of the skill in the plan window would be handy as well.
When adding a skill to planner from ship/item browser it would be handy to be able to add the level to train it for.

Because it requires the .NET Framework 2.0. If you only have 1.1 installed, it needs to install the update. If you don't have the required framework level installed, EVEMon will not be able to run.

I got Evemon yesterday, and installed it on my PC at work. Fantastic program!
Downloaded it home and installed it. Works like a charm! This was the day before yesterday.
Today it suddenly refuses to connect. My char doesn't update now. It's always the "Cached" version that I'm seeing. I also tried re-entering the login info. I also tried adding a new char on a different account. Still refuses to connect. All other internet programs work fine, including Eve.
Any ideas?

Im having major problems with this program. I'm using it to track 6 different accounts, mine and all my friends that I trust, and It starts normally, gets the character info like normal, and then, after a few hours, it stops, and wont retreive the information from the eve website at all, and just uses cache.
I'm behind a router, would this be a problem, bearing in mind that it loads FINE as soon as I startup my machine?
This is a fantastic program, but many people seem to have had this exact bug, and have probably sent you the debug data. Any word on what the solution is, or a patch? -- Interseted in skills? Necessary Skills

It works perfectly for me, i only have one issue.
The cpu usage of the software. It uses 18-25% of cpu even when idling, wich again causes my eve client to stop up for fraction of a second, every 2-3 sec.
Maybe you should look into the dynamic components, and see if generating them real time causes this increased cpu usage. Like the update indicator, and constant updates of skillpoints , and countdown to completion. ---------------------- I got pwnt by the giggling admiral BiH 4tw |

I had the same question, so I looked at the source, and the program does nothing of the sort. You can look yourself or you can take my word for it. Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\EVEMon -- that's where all your EVEMon settings are stored.
Originally by: Quirinus Aristaeus ok i installed the update, now when i start the program its asking me to logon with my eve account, no offense, but how do i know that my account and pw wont be sent to you, or someone not eve online related?
That's why the source code for EVEMon is open and available to everyone. Even if you don't trust me personally, you can look at the code yourself to verify it's not doing anything unsafe. If you can't read source code, there are many other sets of eyes who have looked over the source too, and certainly someone would say something if they saw anything underhanded. :)
If that's not enough, you can also use a personal firewall to block the program so it can only connect to eve-online.com.
If you prefer, you can have it use a saved character XML file that you can grab off the EVE-O website yourself. Just change the "Add Character Using" dropdown to "Saved Character XML" instead of "EVE Online Login". You won't have live updates to your currently training skill or anything, though.
Originally by: ZelRox The cpu usage of the software. It uses 18-25% of cpu even when idling, wich again causes my eve client to stop up for fraction of a second, every 2-3 sec.
Woah, it shouldn't be using that much CPU, even with 5 characters. I'll do a once-over the main window and see where there's room for perf improvement.
Originally by: AtoningUnifex Proxy information is in internet/options. Using WinXP SP2.

I'm currently on the 14-day trial so still getting my head around the games mechanics. But saw the XML data we can get, then did a search and found your application.
Wow it just opens up the skill training to me as a NewBie.
One thing I'd like to see/suggest is a print function. Or maybe I'm missing something but I need to remember all the skills I have to buy and thus write them down. Now if I could print them I could use that while in game so I can purchase the right skills and such, and in order.
Once again fantastic application. If I continue with the game I'll be sure to donate, in and out of game. This type of free work should be rewarded.

Load your plan and click the button "copy for forum", you can then paste it to a text file and then print it from there. :)

Hi Six!
I posted earlier about EVEMon stop working. I thought I had it licked, but the issue is still there.
When I install EVEMon and add my char, all works great! Then after I switch my PC off and back on it refuses to connect and I stay in "Cached" state.
I deleted the EVEMon Directory under Documents and Settings. When I restarted the app it asked me for my login info again, as it does during a clean install, but for the life of me I can't get it to connect anymore!
Any advice/suggestions please! I'm running XP SP2 Vanilla. No 3rd party firewalls or anything. I did try disabling the XP Firewall, no change. My Eve client logs on normally.
The bit of info I can give you regarding my login name and password is that my login name is only letters, mixed upper and lowercase. And my password is numbers only.
Lil' help please! I gotta get this great tool running! ///End

It hasn't connected for me for about a week now also. Nothing about my setup has changed. It's a real pain to use the XML and keep downloading it from my character stats. I tried to write a GETHTTP batch file to grab my XML for me, but the page is generated on the fly so doesn't work. Anything I can try to get this working? I'm a newbie so this app is a godsend. Is there some kind of port-forwarding that would help for my fireless router? I think it just uses 80 so I don't think so. _____________________________________________________________________ "Tetsuo is our friend. I delete the EVEMon SETTINGS directory. It's in your Documents and Settings, Application Data directory.
Then I simply restart my PC, and run EVEMon first, before I open EVE. Re-load my char from scratch, and then load my plan. ///End

I'm being asked to install .NET 2.0 for this.
To install .NET 2.0 on my win2k pro system, I have to install "Windows installer 3.0".
To even download "Windows installer 3.0", I have to install "Windows Genuine Advantage," to verify that I'm not a criminal. I expect when I get that down, I'll have to upload DNA and palmprints to install it. I'm also afraid that by doing this, I'll trigger some sort of self destruct mechanism, as I've kept this copy of win2k pro for the last 3 PCs.
I dislike this, and suspect the only reason it needs .net is that you happened to have bought Visual Studio recently. Is there really any need for all this crap, have there been genuine programming advancements that allow you to do things you couldn't do before without Microsoft keeping tabs on me?
Furthermore, I'm being told that the install is 150megs in the install script. Why?

Compatibility is of a higher importance on a nondemanding windows GUI app that's supposed to keep track of a few times and numbers than is performance.

.net/vs is easier to develop in than using emacs and gcc. You cat develop evemon with nothing but free (beer) software. The software would not be as good as it is if it were written on some other stack. You don't like it, you're probably free to port it to some bsd stack.

I didn't mean to come off harshly, I recognise that C# may be easier - I'd just like some means of running the software everyone's praising without doing destructive things to my computer. A new Genuinely Not Evil (tm) plugin by microsoft shouldn't be required to run this. Is there any option in VS to compile to .net 1.1 version that someone could use?

Just did it again... And I got it to not work, and then work again. I have a DSL line, but in order for the Eve client not to get disconnected, I have to make a manual dialup connection. EveMon does not like this connection. If I disconnect that connection EveMon will connect fine via the router. Then I can make my manual dialup and run the client.
I didn't have to delete the settings folder for this work.
Anyone with a similar setup and configuration care to confirm this? ///End

Edited by: Lickety on 15/05/2006 16:43:28 Small question. I'm running EVEMon in XML file mode with the auto-check option turned on. Is there something else I need to do so the UI will display the "currently training" skill?
Also, on the skill plans, I can't seem to get them to take into account SPs already trained. For example, I have a plan for piloting a Raven, yet it's not taking into account that I'm already 50% of the way with Cruiser IV... Did I do something wrong?
Thanks much

I've actually been a .NET developer since the first betas came out on MSDN a few years ago. C# is quick to develop in, it's immune to many classes of security vulnerabilities that plague C and C++ code, and it offers performance equivalent to native code. It's my professional opinion that unless you're supporting legacy code, you're foolish to start any new non-managed software projects on the Windows platform.
I know for a fact it's possible to download Windows Installer 3.0 for Windows 2000 without needing WGA. I have a VMWare Win2k setup for testing and I got everything installed on there without needing it.
If the .NET requirement is too heavy for your liking, you always have ECM available. EVEMon's irrevocably based on the .NET runtime and that's never going to change because it would pretty much require a total redesign and rewrite.

Great utility. Very well thought out and slick. little donation sent.
Works great on my satellite connection and dialup. PVP doesnt work that great with satellite, (ping of 1.3seconds is a bit much) so I have to switch to dialup. Sometimes Evemon crashes because I have disrupted the connection by either dialing up or disconnecting dialup. I just have to redownload the character data (if you have a few alts this can take a while), as it does not cache the skill times. I will take a ss next time so you can see the error, but other than that I have no issues with it.

Feature request, if I may be so bold: a little nod to cross-compatibility, in terms of XML output, between EVEmon's output and QuickFit's input. It's not exactly critical, by any means. Would just be icing on the cake of an already fabulous program.
It's just too bad you can't actually set a skill training with this gizmo. Then I wouldn't even have to log in. I could just send CCP money each month and leave EVEmon running in the background. Thank you for an excellent tool, and keep up the good work.

Wonderful program, recommended to all (literally anyone that'll listen hehe).
If I may be so bold as to request some features:
- A skill plan queue, so for instance if I make a several plans for different aspects of a characters development I could add each these plans as a single entry to my queue and have the additional time displayed for that whole set of skills. I think this would be genuinely helpful.
- A display of total skill points in my queue, and maybe even my skill point total once the plan has finished. Hardly vital I know but the kind of thing I just love to know/tell people
- Skill points per hour on current skill in training. Again, I know hardly vital but I'm sure the program knows this already and just needs to display it
Again, thanks very much Six, very impressive.

Looks like a great program, but for some reason I can't get it to work on my laptop (doesn't have EVE installed - is that required?)
It just locks up when trying to connect to EVE with my login info, sometimes I can close it with ctrl+alt+del, rarely it locks up entirely and I need to shut down with the power button.
I connect through a wireless router, use winXP (SP2) - any ideas what could cause this? :( I'll try it on my desktop with EVE on it later and let you know if it works there ;)

The main thing that would help is catching one of the failures when EVEMon was started with network logging enabled (C:\Program Files\EVEMon\Debugging Tools). The log file gets large quickly though, so if the problem is difficult to reproduce, it might be difficult to catch in the log. One of the things I'm working on for a future release is a more powerful network interface that'll make it easier to track down and determine the cause of any failures.
Originally by: Sakaki Karazawa Exactly what does the planner do? Is it just a checklist or does it have other functions?
What you see is what you get, basically. You can browse skills, ships, and items to see how long it would take you to train for things, add skills and prerequisites to a queue, see what effect implants would have on training time, sort the skills so the fastest stuff trains first, keep notes on why you have stuff marked for training. Once I get around to finishing it, you can have it arrange your skill training around your schedule so skills will finish training when you're available to log into EVE to start a new skill so you don't waste training time because a skill finished training while you were asleep. That sort of thing.

That might be a little tricky for me to track down, I'm not running x64 Windows, and the window relocating is the one thing that isn't completely managed code. I'll see what I can do though.

Today is the first exception - so I am inclined to belive the problem is on my side. My character XML is not updating off of Eve-O.
- I have logged in to the charcter site manually and verified that I can browse right to the XML folder.
- I have logged into the game.
- I have clicked the flashing circle thing in the upper right corner to try again (repeatedly).
- I have quit out of and reloaded EvEMon.
- I have verified my internet connection by browsing random websites.
- I do not have a hardware firewall, or residential router, or any other device between me and the internet.
- Last night it was working, since then all I have done is turned my computer off, then on (with some sleeping in between).
- This effects all 3 of the Characters that I use EvEMon to track, each on a different account.
That's all I can think of that may be useful. I'm going to keep playing with it.
Having been affected by this for the first time I have a suggestion: When minimized if you can't connect have EveMon show you the skill countdown from the cached data when you hover the mouse over the tray icon. Also having the countdown based on the cached copy on the character skill page would be grand.
Thanks!

Sounds easy enough, working on it right now.
Edit: Done.

Hmm... I imagine some kind of merge function... Might actually be interesting, and a bit more challenging than the 10 line patches I've sent to Six already. I'll give it a shot later tonight!
Edit 2: Done.
What so these features are now in the program?

Well, they are in my version at least.
I've sent the patches to Six as well, but he seems to have a rather busy life OOEL (out of EVE life :p). We'll just have to wait and see if and when my small contribution makes it into the main codebranch and Six releases an upgrade, I guess.

You can download the source code, and look it over for yourself to see exactly what its doing with your login info. If you can't read source code, you can at least rest assured in the fact that more than a handful of other people with the exact same concern you have already have looked it over.

Edited by: Six Anari on 20/05/2006 02:45:01 Version 1.0.25.0 has just been released, with a couple big new things:
* A mineral pricing worksheet, to easily work out how much your mineral stocks are worth. It can automatically grab prices from a couple different places, and in the future you'll be able to add your own price sources as well. * Better network proxy support, including authentication. Open up the Options dialog and go to the Network tab to configure it. * Plans can be merged. Use shift-click to select multiple plans in the Open Plan window, then click Merge to create a new plan containing all the planned skills from all the selected plans.
Also, forums are now up at the EVEMon homepage. You can post problems and suggestions and stuff there. Or here in this thread, either place is fine. :)

Great tool, many thanks to Six Anari & all other code contributors.
Something I would like to ask.
When suggesting learning skills to decrease plan time it doesn't seem to ever suggest the actual Learning skill to me no matter how convoluted a plan I create. Is this intentional or an oversight? I'm sure Tripoli would argue the reasons for adding Learning in quite vehemently but I'd like to know a few for leaving it out before I write it off.
If anyone is using ZoneAlarm Firewall & has problems with it connecting to the EVE servers I suggest modifying the custom options for the zone which you have your net connection in (it will either be Internet Zone or Trusted Zone, I use Trusted as I have a router between my net connection and my network and I need to be able to access other machines over the network & have them access mine) and adding port 80 to the allowed incoming & outgoing TCP ports. It might only need one or the other but I really can't be bothered narrowing it down right now. FYI I use ZoneAlarm Security Suite but this should apply to all the Zone Labs firewalls & probably most other companies similar products too. --- Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! |

Edit: I played around with CultureInfo and NumberFormatInfo, and came up with this for the MatariParser:
Quote: // price = Decimal.Parse(mineral.Groups["price"].Value, System.Globalization.NumberStyles.Currency); System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture = new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("en-US"); System.Globalization.NumberFormatInfo numInfo = culture.NumberFormat; price = Decimal.Parse(mineral.Groups["price"].Value, System.Globalization.NumberStyles.Currency, numInfo);
Works for me, at least. :)
Awesomesauce. That's the solution I was going to aim for once I wasn't too sleepy to think of it. I'll go ahead and port that over to the phoenix parser as well. Thanks a bunch man!

Apart from the learning skills, one skill doesn't affect the training time of any other skill. So if both skill A and skill B is a prerequisite for skill C, it doesn't matter if you train skill A first and then skill B, or the other way around. It will still take the same amount of time.
If you put learning skills into the equation, it gets a little more complicated. However, EVEMon should suggest what learning skills to train if there are any that you would benefit from (i.e. that would make the total training time shorter than it should be had you not trained the learning skill(s)). And even though it is slightly broken, it still does a pretty good job from what I have seen.

Click the sort button on the plan queue tab and choose "Fastest Skills First". That will order the skills such that the ones you can complete fastest will be placed first in the plan, accounting for prerequisites and such.

I do need to give credit to a program called ShiftWindow for the inspiration for that feature. I ended up building identical functionality into EVEMon because I didn't really like the interface of ShiftWindow and it seemed to not work quite right for me from time to time.

To get the fastest skill you can learn next, filter the skill browser by "Trainable Skills", then sort by "Time To Next Level" :)
If you filter by all skills, the Time to Next Level sort includes prerequisites, but as of yet there's no way to identify where time between prereqs is shared.

I have a feature request. I would like to set a number telling EVEMon how many accounts I am tracking, and have an alarm go off if fewer than that many characters have skills training. This way I can catch a character who didn't get a new skill set by some mistake.
Make the alert time configurable from 1 min to 1 hour, so you can either be hounded if you didn't set a skill or if you just want an alert if you're not training max skills after a new skill download. Let the count be changed easily from the alert dialog so people can change it easily when they add accounts (or remove them.. does that even happen? :) ) You'd probably want an 'OK, remind me again in X minutes button there, or remind me after the next set of skill downloads goes by and we're still short on how many skills are training.
Or maybe just keeping track of how long it has been since we were training our goal number of skills would be the way to go, sounding the alert if that time becomes to long.
(Frankly, I'd prefer to get beat about the head even if the data is lagging (waiting for the next dowload cycle) instead of botching a skill set and losing hours of training. It would be nice if the EvE client's alert worked more robustly, and was more than just highlighting the player sheet button.... Skills are so important to be kept running... yet the alerting is very low key in client.)

Hi Six!
Great program! Been using it for about 2 weeks now, and all is grand! I still have some connection issues though. I'm running the program on 2 different PCs with completely different internet connection, in 2 different places (home & office). And I still have trouble connecting now and then. Do you wait for a coupla secs before you time-out the login request or something? My pings from both home and office are pretty bad. I can only get around 300ms ping on a good day with the average running around 500ms. It does sometimes help if I just spam my login requests about 10 times, but sometimes even that doesn't help.
A feature request: I know this is slightly out of line for EVEMon, but a regional price checker would be nice. Right click any item. Click on "Check regional prices". And it comes up with high, low and market average for every region in Eve for that item. Buying and Selling. Or is there perhaps another program out there that does this?

Connection attempts will time out after a period of time, but it's quite a long timeout, like 45 seconds. A 500ms ping shouldn't make the connection take that long.

It's not near the top of my list, but assuming I can get data like that, something like that will probably end up in EVEMon eventually.

The update button actually retrieves data from the EVE-O site, however, EVE-O caches your character data for 60 minutes to lower server load on Tranquility. More info is available here.

Just installed this app over the weekend. Really nice app. For some reason all of a sudden I am unable to connect for updates. It worked just fine since installation. Went through and uninstalled the app and deleted the cache from the Doc\Set profile folder. Then reinstalled. Can't add character again. Have disabled all firewall software and still no luck. Any suggestions? Anyone else having problems connecting?

For everybody that has been unable to update their character data since the patch:
EVEMon gets your character data from the "My Character" page on eve-online.com. For some reason, this page has been disabled since the patch. This means that EVEMon is unable to update your data. Hopefully, EVEMon will work as normal again once the "My Character" page is enabled.

The My Character page has been disabled... this seems to be the reason why the program won't update and gives me errors every time I try to re-enter the log-in information.
Any word from the devs on this?

Not that I've heard, but it's probably just disabled temporarily to keep load on the cluster down while they smoke out the patch and make sure everything's working right. If it's not back within a couple days, then I'll start to worry. :)

Great program, many thanks indeed.
One question, if Eve Mon fails to load char information for some reason, is there anyway to stop the disc on the top right corner from flashing in such an annoying manner?

can't be bothered to check through all 9 pages here, but where do i send suggestions or feature requests?
it'd be nice to have a schedule optimizer, i.e. sorting feature that would sort your skills/skill groupings to finish at a certain time target time of the day, like a feature that would allow one to avoid skills finishing at 4a.m. without having to manually rearrange them all.
is this in the works or been previously suggested? |

You can find a link to the Evemon website on the first page. They do have a forum where requests for certain features can be made.
Additionally, regarding my comments earlier about being able to access the "My Character" Page.... Funny enough, I cant access the same page at home. Seems to do fine at work tho. ::shrug::

The problem is not Evemon, it's eve webserver. I can use evemon at (site a), but does not work at (site b). If you are having problems, you probably also cannot access your "My Character" section at eve website. I'm hoping ccp fixes this problem soon.

2 Featurerequests if I may: - A filter for partially trained skills so one can easily find and finish them (manual search is an option but slightly frustrating if you have 200 skills - Add an "Overview"-Page showing all characters in training on all accounts and when they will finish? Would be neat.

.NET 1.1 and 2.0 can both be installed on a machine at the same time. By default applications will run under the latest version of the Framework installed, but if you have an application that doesn't run correctly under 2.0 (which should be exceedingly rare), there are options to coerce it into loading with 1.1 instead.
edit: I thought QuickFit was Java based?

Your ISP most likely has a mail server that will relay outgoing mail for you. Check with their support site, they'll usually have the information you need listed there.

Originally by: Six Anari I do need to give credit to a program called ShiftWindow for the inspiration for that feature. I ended up building identical functionality into EVEMon because I didn't really like the interface of ShiftWindow and it seemed to not work quite right for me from time to time.
I sometimes run two instances of Eve at once, one on each monitor. Unfortunately this isn't really supported if I use alignment function, don't suppose that you could add in support for this? ShiftWindow just seems to not work for me at all.

Edited by: Malibu Stacey on 29/05/2006 12:49:57 OK I'm having a problem with EveMon which I have no idea how to resolve. It just seems to pick & choose when it will get my character details & when it won't. Right now it won't. Yesterday it did ok around this time but then later in the evening it just refused.
If I run it with network logging enabled & leave "do not include my passwords in the log" this is all I get in the log file.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <evemon-netlog /> Incidentally if I click the browse button to save the log somewhere other than the my docs folder I get an unhandled exception. If I log everything I get this output to the log file. I hope I've removed all instances of my password in this.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <evemon-netlog> <NetworkLogEventArgs> <NetworkLogEventType>ParsedRedirect</NetworkLogEventType> <Url>https://myeve.eve-online.com/login.asp?username=MalibuStacey&password=password&login=Login&Check=OK&r=&t=</Url> <CookieList /> <RedirectTo>http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?sid=317831822</RedirectTo> <StatusCode>OK</StatusCode> </NetworkLogEventArgs> <NetworkLogEventArgs> <NetworkLogEventType>ParsedRedirect</NetworkLogEventType> <Url>https://myeve.eve-online.com/login.asp?username=MalibuStacey&password=password&login=Login&Check=OK&r=&t=</Url> <CookieList /> <RedirectTo>http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?sid=317831935</RedirectTo> <StatusCode>OK</StatusCode> </NetworkLogEventArgs> <NetworkLogEventArgs> <NetworkLogEventType>ParsedRedirect</NetworkLogEventType> <Url>https://myeve.eve-online.com/login.asp?username=MalibuStacey&password=password&login=Login&Check=OK&r=&t=</Url> <CookieList /> <RedirectTo>http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?sid=317832040</RedirectTo> <StatusCode>OK</StatusCode> </NetworkLogEventArgs> </evemon-netlog>
I'm logged in to the forum right now as you can see & I can see my character info in this browser with no problems. I'm using Windows XP & have .net 1.1 & 2.0 installed. The problem isn't "intermittent", sometimes it works & will work for a long time & other times it doesn't work & won't work for a long time either. I have no idea what to do to fix it.
It's not all bad news though. I love the window shifting option. It's worth using Evemon for that alone. --- Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! |

The network logging doesn't work quite right in the latest release, due to some of the changes that went in to add support for proxy authentication. That will be fixed in the next version.

Edited by: Eewec Ourbyni on 31/05/2006 16:45:09 Oh fug... double fug.
Now you have me using both this and ECM (FFET). Yours has the more accurate skill training time (I compared the two programs with EVE, yours is spot on.) But the FFET prog has the easier to use interface. Not sure about everyone else, and maybe it's simply cos I'm more used to the EMS/ECM setup (It took me 5 minutes to work out how to get a skill plan started using EVEMon) but I'm finding alot of EVEMon counter-intuitive... maybe I just need to sit down with it for a bit and work it out.
BTW, love the http://localhost/ bit for the ingame browser, finally no more alt tabbing to remind myself what the next skill in my plan is and being able to make multiple different plans... wow.
Would love to see the ability to tell EVEMon which skill books I've bought that I've yet to learn though... have 7 atm that I can't learn quite yet due to pre-reqs, but every now and then I forget I've got them... especially when I'm revising my skill plan. Also, when working on a skill plan, would be nice if we could tell the planner that we sleep between say.... 11pm and 5:00am, work from 5:30am-9:00am then get a few hours to do stuff, then work again 1:30pm-~7pm except Sundays when I get an afternoon to do whatever. Would make things easier to plan which skills to train when.
The only other thing that springs readily to mind is split-skill planning which I've yet to see in any of the skill planners I've looked at.
This is a sig...

Excellent programme which I have started using in preference to other skill planners of measureable quality. They're all good but the interface and ease of use is what sets Eve Mon just that notch higher.
As a suggestion, and apologies if it's been mentioned before, on the 'Plan Queue', perhaps a graphical depiction of a calander with the training times integrated into it could be developed. This would be easier to read than the text format which is used at present. Other than that, no problems or suggestions at present. Isk will be sent when I have paid my debts

Not going to happen, least not until EVE lite arrives. It has been stated many many times that no 3rd party aps will EVER be allowed to change the skill that your char is actually learning in-game, apparently with EVE lite we may get that, but it's against the TOS for a 3rd party ap to go anywhere near that. Secondly, as to skill queues... apart from a mention on "the drawingboard" it has also been said many many many times that there is no way they will ever be implemented and as the only software allowed to change the in-game training skill is one written by CCP, we have to assume that this is about as lightly as flying to the moon on a soup spoon, then going on a skiing holiday in Hell.

i got 2 questions: (didnt read whole topic so sry if asked before)
1) Does your plan automaticly change when u add implants (shows training times with implants)
2) If you plan learning skills and then plan something else, the something else still shows trainning time WITHOUT those training skills. Cuz your attribs wil go higher the training time of something else should be shorter.
Thx for answer.

Edited by: Jolin Ires on 06/06/2006 23:08:02 No matter how much I try I just cannot get it to work. Every time I try to log-in with EVE-Mon it fails login verification. Yes, I know I have the option to download my character XML file and work from that.
HOWEVER, if I click on My Character on the website--->log in--->takes me to player news (I realize the first time it doing this is intended) BUT no matter how many times I click on My Character after this, it just brings me back to the Player News Center.
An interesting thing to note is that I was able to get to My Character earlier today from work.
Edit: I just noticed that some players have written that todays patch messed up something. I have trying to get EVE-Mon for the las several days so it's not todays patch.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before -- I apologize if it has.
Reconnecting after the deployment deleted my character info saved in EVEMon (and consequently my plan). I don't suppose this happened to anyone else?
It's not a big deal, plans are easy to redo (ty for the great tool!), just curious if anyone else had anything like this happen.

hi, great program!!!!
i just read your reply on the thread about third party ap. and i decided to use to tool to make the eve window fit on my screen. it did quite fast, and it looked awesome, but i got 2 problems.
1. i have my task bar set to disappear automatically and only show up when i bring my mouse to the lower part of the screen. this works well with every program i run, even with eve if i move the window to the lower part of the screen. but it didnt work after using your tool. no matter how much i tried to bring up the task bar by moving the mouse on the lower part of the screen, it didnt show up.
2. the options menu didnt work.i pressed the "esc" key, but i couldnt do anything there, could not even change to menu to graphics, general, sound, etc. could not even exit the game. i had to click on the exit button, and then press the enter key, and after that press the enter key again to close the game.
other than this, an incredible great program

This is hands down the best application (available?) that I've used to work skills in EVE. I'd really like to recommend this to corp mates, but since I have to depend on "others" who have vetted your application for security could you please help give me a warm fuzzy about user name and password security? How is this information kept confidential? Do you now have access to my user name and password if I use the automatic update features? Heck, the US Office of Veteran's Affairs can't even keep the information of millions of Vets secure (i.e. is your PC/Data secure from theft), which is why I'm still gun shy using your application. It's sooo good I'm taking the risk atm...

Someone else just reported a false positive on the uninstaller too. It's a standard NSIS installer and uninstaller; so chances are someone used NSIS to bundle up something ugly and the AV companies overreacted.

Yes that is exactly what it means. No your password is not stored in plaintext anywhere. When it's sent to the eve-online site it's probably sent plaintext otherwise the website wouldn't understand it but this is exactly how your browser works when you log in to the eve-online site using your username & password (note the word exactly, I underlined it for you).

Yeah, I'm getting kind of tired of people asking that question.
Here's what your password in the evemon file looks like. This is the only place that your password is stored:

1. I did read quite a few posts before asking, but not all 250+ (sorry i missed the 20 you mentioned) 2. I did search for "EVEMon Password" and got: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=344331 (sorry, still no warm fuzzy) 3. Just needed to personally do due diligence (to the best of my ability) before I recommend this to others. 4. Wouldn't want to do anything that would jeopardize security for my corp (the manual mode would satisfy this at the expense of convenience) 5. Before I give 1-Million ISK over for a job well done, I'd like to have a warm fuzzy I'm not aiding and abetting the dark side (only been playing for around 2 months so this isn't an insignificant amount of ISK for me to give) 6. AGAIN! - Please accept my humble apologies for being IGNORANT and therefore "amazingly paranoid" in a world full of hackers and EVE-Scam-Artists.

Yes, I realize that the manual mode makes my question a mute point. Anders post, with an actual example of password encryption was much appreciated and has put my mind at ease. I've been using EVEMon for about a month now, utilizing the auto updates functionality despite my level of uncertainty. The functionality and quality outweighed the risk for me personally. However, I want to highly recommend it to others in my corp so that is primarily why I really wanted to qualify it to the best of my abilities. Please consider the matter closed as far as I'm concerned.

Mix between a bug and a feature request here, but:
1. Could you make an option to put the OK button on the left and Cancel on the right, having them inverted really confuses me and I keep hitting the wrong one.
2. With skill group expanded on the main page it scrolls in the most retarded way if you use a mousewheel. It's tremendously confusing, the only way I can tell where I just scrolled to is to look at the bar on the right. For some reason every time I scroll a single step with the wheel it goes back to the top and scrolls down to where I am. ------------------------ Fuzzylogic |

First I want to say thank you for a very good monitor. While the interface is fairly simple, the plan feature is incredible. Very simple to use and the suggestion/implant features are great. One small request, in the plan feature where it shows the date the skill will finish is it possible to add the day of the week too? So we can see if a skill ends on Sunday or Monday?

Works fine for me as you would expect. I use it on WinXP here at home & Win2k at work & the scroll wheel works the same as any other application. I have .net 1.1 & 2.0 runtimes installed on both machines I use EveMon on. It could be your mouse drivers though. Might want to try it with the generic driver if you have a manufacturer supplied driver installed or vice-versa.

It already shows the date & exact time the skill will finish. Not sure if the date functions in C# or whatever Evemon is written in will return a day for a given date so it may be more trouble than it's worth. --- Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! |

It is sent to myeve.eve-online.com in exactly the same way it is when you log in to the EVE website through your web browser. Your password is only transmitted over an HTTPS connection, so it can't be sniffed off the network. This is the only time your username or password are ever sent anywhere. It is never sent to me, nor to anyone else.
The password is stored in an encrypted format in the EVEMon settings file so you don't have to re-enter it every time you restart EVEMon. As a caveat though, keep in mind that this encryption is merely intended to deter someone from casually grabbing the password from the file. Because of the fact that EVEMon itself has to be able to decrypt the password in the settings file (so it can use it to log in to the EVE-O website and get your character data), it means that someone else could decrypt the password from it too, but only if they got ahold of your settings file. As such, you should treat your EVEMon settings file as private and never share it with anyone.
And it's alright to ask about it, you are perfectly justified in being paranoid about your account security.

I love this program. I have tried another one but found EVEMon to be more user friendly and the updates work 100% of the time. I found that unless I deleted the char from another one I was using it wouldn't update, kept getting max XML used etc.
EVEMon is my choice for watching skill training, I have given the link and told my corp about the program as well and we have about 5 using it and they love it. One guy owns about 7chars so this makes it a lot better for him.
Keep up the good work Six and thanks for all you and the team have done.

EVEMon has not been picking up any implants since the patch, but then neither is the EMD, so this is most likely an XML File error or change - this problem also affects the My Character page of the EVE website.

I got a proposition for you guys.
If I wrote a scheduler for EVEMon that would schedule skill training order such that skills would only complete traing during the hours of a day/week that you were able to log in and select the next one...would one - or some - of you make a subtantial ISK donation to me? Think Outlook's calendar/meeting scheduler (maybe not that advanced on the first version). You select the parts of the day where you're asleep/at work etc and it schedules your skills around those so that they jump your downtimes so you can always start the next skill. I know I want this feature, and I think I saw someone else asking for it...

Is there anyway to get the program to use our portraits from the Eve directory? Portraits from My Character/Forums still aren't working...
Also, it would be nice to have the sorting not take into account training times < X mins, with X being user selectable. I don't see me losing sleep over whether or not I can train something in 9 mins rather than 15 mins. Getting whatever advantage I can from a Lvl 1 or 2 skill is worth more to me. besides, I'll be losing more time than that by missing training end times. ( and when I go camping in a few weeks :/. 207.44.198.28 IS static.evercrest.com, so we're only connecting to one site there.
Evemon checks for updates when it starts up, and the site is hosted at evercrest.com. My guess is that this is the traffic that your corpmate is noticing. Perhaps you would feel safer if we released a version with optional automatic updates?

No need to deinstall. It was Antivirs fault. Latest Antivir update corrects it. It no longer shows as virus infected. Thats why i put those files in quarantine first. Its not the first time that an antivirus programm has a false alert.

Hi Six!
I have a feature request please! I've found that my login problems are on CCP's side. I can't even get to my character through the website to do an export so I can import it to EveMon. It's the same for the forums. Took me over an hour of "Reply" and "Login" and "Back" rinse and repeat just to get this posted. So it basically works on a crapload of retries to get anything done.
Can you please make EveMon do automatic retries using the login info I provide, till it gets my character info?
Thanks in advance!

It actually does retries under most circumstances. In fact, there's an outstanding bug where it will do way, way too many retries that we just haven't had the time to fix yet.

I have built and uploaded the latest development version. This is an unofficial, unsupported, un-whatever release.
It's strong enough for a developer, but ph balanced for a user. Something like that. You can get more information (and the link) at the evemon forums: Here
This version reduces cpu usage when evemon is minimized, and makes some internal changes to the login process.
If you are happy with the way evemon works today, you probably don't need to go download that. The auto-updater isn't going anywhere, you will get these changes via the update system eventually. This is merely an intermediate release for people that want to try out the latest bug fixes.
Enjoy! ------ It's time for some F*@&*#g soup. -- Syfe |

Thanks Anders!
I downloaded it the second i saw you changed something in the login.
There was no change when I installed it at the office though. BUT! It did work at home! It actually logged on for the fist time in 2 weeks! Only tested it once so far. And I still firmly believe it a CCP/server side problem.
Will keep ya up to date

Anders, please check the regional settings, and among other things use the '.' and ',' correctly for the region when displaying numerics. ie. some regions use ',' to seperate thousands and millions and not '.'. And use '.' instead of ',' to seperate the integer part of a real number from the fractional part. Otherwise its an excellent, smooth, reliable and open source program. I look forward to the version that compiles on Linux and Mac OS X as well as Windows.

Hi Six Anari,
Just wanted to point out the requirement for Drone Sharpshooting no longer requires the base skill Sharpshooter. I think it only requires Drone IV or V, so you might want to make that adjustment in EVEMon.

And we've had all kinds of headaches from those regional settings, particularly in the mineral parsers. That being said, which part of the program are you talking about? In the ship and item browser, we display the data exactly as it appears in the last eve data dump, which uses 1,000.00 style numbers. There's been some talk about reformatting those depending on region, but right now, we're displaying exactly what we have.

Well Lain you have two options currently.
If you continue to manually import the XML data that currently doesn't include the implant section you'll have to continue to manually put them in.
But if you have it logged into the auto-update feature once you've put in the manual implants they should stay until you remove them.
Or so I've found. I don't know why they removed that section from the XML data.

I think it's more of an issue with CCP themselves for not included all/any of the implant XML data. They used to.
So I would 'hassle' CCP to correct their data than EVEMon :)

I did this recently, but had to do it manually via copying and edit a 'base' xml file based on a character build. I have seen a character online tool that exports said ml file, but that would be great.

If im to understand this program correctly.. It is allowing me to manage what skills im learning off line, without the need of the Eve Client on this computer?
When i try and log in with this software it gives me an error and wont log in. Something about "Object ref not sent to an instance of an object" (using ver. 1.0.25.3) I have no clue what this means. Now, i got a copy of my char XML info from this website, and loaded that into EVEMon, now, will this work in the offline capacity? Or will it not function due to it not being able to log in?
It should be noted, that my account is not even 24hours old as of yet, if this makes a difference. Any help/clarity is appreciated.

New screen with 1920x1080 17" means that standard windows is very small. To make it usable I've changed my DPI setting from the standard 96dpi to 120dpi in the display adapter settings but EveMon doesn't display things properly and clips the text in each of the boxes.
Is it possible to re-test evemon with larger dpi settings to ensure that they scale for those of us with different settings?

I will admit to not keeping up 100% with patches. I believe Tactical Shield Manipulation IV used to be the required skill for the Shield Resist skills. I believe that has been changed to Shield Operation IV.
Anyways, EVEMon still believes it is Tactical Shield Manipulation. Is there an update?

The program stores your password in an encrypted state and transmits it to the eve servers in exactly the same manner as your browser. I'm the guy who wrote the encryption, so hopefully its not my ego talking when I tell you that it's pretty F*&$ing secure. All the source is online, here's the secret sauce.
Now then, if someone got ahold of your eve username, your evemon settings file, and the sourcecode for evemon, they could potentially retrieve your password. If we come up with a way to close that hole without making evemon all but unusable, we will... but it's a vulnerability that I live with. If you can't live with that or you just plain don't trust us, that's cool, you can always use EVEMon with xml you download yourself.
The program makes connections to eve-online, and it also calls home to check for new versions. At no time is your password sent anywhere but eve-online.
Also, CCP, if you're reading this, we're hosted at battleclinic (evemon.battleclinic.com) now, if someone could go touch up the first post to reflect that, I'd be much obliged :) ------ It's time for some F*@&*#g soup. -- Syfe |

Edited by: Bai ul on 05/08/2006 02:36:30 First of all, I know squat about .NET programming (and I positively hate VB in general, as I sometimes am forced by "the powers that be" to program small stuff in it), so I wasn't even THINKING about touching the source code myself. That being said, here's a few small suggestions that would make this small tool even MORE awesome as it is, with (I hope) relatively little trouble from the "original programmer's side".
1. Small bug with "suggestion" feature
You completely forget to include the "LEARNING" skill into it, even if the rest of the "suggested skills" look like the accurate ones and in the proper order. Also, when you "sort skills" in the plan, you jumble the "correct"/suggested order of the learning skills a bit in some cases, and they don't return to the proper order. So, include learning (bonus +2% per level to all attributes) into "suggestions", and have a separate option in "suggestions" to LOCK the order of the learning skills (relative to one another)
A nice thing to do here too would be to add a "I have the following implants available: +xINT, +yCHA, etc" (only one of each type, and only +1, +2 and +3s, for simplicity)... so, when making "suggestions", you can also include Science L3 + Cybernetics L1 (with subsequent full implants plugin) into the equation.
2. An OFFLINE/Simulation mode (one big feature and two smaller ones) - a button to enable/disable live update (both for login info anf XML file updates)
And while in "live update disabled" (simulation) mode: - right-click option in main window to set which skill is training NOW (useful if site XML doesn't update fast enough) - right-click option in skill planner to set "skill level completed" (so actually run simulations)
3. Once this initial "sim" mode is ready, a new small module, where you can generate (completely offline) a character template as if you created it in-game. That's not so vital, this one can easily be done manually... points "1" and "2" are the ones that burn ;)

There is a new developer version of EVEMon, 1.0.25.4. This version is new and may contain bugs - if that bothers you, don't download it. Export all your plans before you do, just in case.
Once we've tested 1.0.25.4 (I'm guessing a week or so), we will release a new version which includes loads of new features.
Be aware that EVEMon has moved from evercrest.com to battleclinic.com. You will have to download a version of 1.0.25.4 if you want to get automatic EVEMon updates in the future.
Questions, concerns, comments, visit the forums or email me in or out of game. Enjoy! ------ It's time for some F*@&*#g soup. -- Syfe |

You are not the owner of the EVEMon project. You do not have the developer permission to "take over" this project. If you intend to make a fork, be at least courteous and change the name of the fork and do not impose as original project.

I'm really trying to do right by the community here. This is not a fork, as the original project has completely halted development. I have tried to contact Six many times and received no response. As soon as I hear from Six, the project will be completely 100% under his control again. ------ EVEMon |

Wow it is nice to see the community trying to defend a develper. But really as much as everything looks on the level with this in all honesty since the poject lead is AWOL it would be best just to bite the bullet and fork EveMon and rename it until their return and/or the project is handed over lock stock an barrel.
I Like EveMon and will use what ever the new version gets named becuse it is still the same thing.
As a side if there are bugs in EveMon that CCP asked to be corrected then sooner or later CCP will take stepped to make the older verison incomplatable with the Eve-online website. So name change or not people will sooner or later be forced to update anyways.

Just wondering,
Anybody had problems with EVEMon today? I woke up to train a skill and checked out EVEMon and it tried to connect or something. Just nothing happened. So i re-installed it and now it doesn't even want to add a character (Your Login information could not be verified) even tho i typed it correctly several times.
Anybody got any idea?

That's all fine and dandy however it's not the way it's done. If you want to resume work on HIS application get permission. If there's no permission then at least rename your app to something.
As things are now, you did a blatant rip off of his website and his program without getting the authors permission. And while you might have good intentions I'll use the old client instead of yours simply because of this.

As one of the developers working on the original application, back when Six was active (check the logs if you want), I respectfully disagree with your analysis... but you do whatever you want. And if the author is dead? imprisoned? in a coma? Should his work simply die?
If Anders is one of the main developers (fyi: I wouldn't know since I've just found out about this app) and has worked on it for a majority of the time he has enough rights to continue the work since the original developer has disappeared. You forget that this is an open-source project and as such if one person should fail it's the duty of the others that were given oversight to take up the slack.
If Six should come back and disagree then itÆs reasonable to call for a fork. But for now there is no need as there are no competing visions on how this project should continue.
As for moving it to Battelclinic (or anywhere for that matter) it's a matter of keeping things moving and available to the community IMHO. There is no knowing when / if the servers hosting evercrest.com will be taken off line. I'm just glad to see BC giving a hand, not surprised though as they are all a great bunch of guys. (Yes, I've known them for a long long time. )
Look forward the continued development of this excellent tool!

I don't know if this has been addressed or not, and I may not have searched too closely when I was rummaging through the thread looking for anything relating to this so here goes:
When I open EVEMon I cannot get any kind of portrait on any of my characters. This doesn't really bother me, but being the curious person that I am... is there something that I could do by chance on my end that would allow me to view my actual character portrait, or is what I'm asking a hopeless cause?
Oh and if it is relevant-- I have changed my character portrait on my main character.
Thanks in advance.

EVEMon 1.0.25.0 is a DEAD END. Under certain conditions, it effectively functions as a denial of service attack against the myeve websites. Now that a new version is available, CCP is removing support for 1.0.25.0. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances around the new version (and you can read all the details in this and some other threads), it will NOT auto-update. This one time, and this one time only, you will have to download the new version manually. The auto-updater will kick in for all future versions.
I apologize for the inconvenience, but this was really the only way forward for the EVEMon project and for the myeve website. Please, if you have any problems with the new version, visit the new EVEMon forums and let us know what you think.
Thank you for using EVEMon!

Sometimes myeve takes a long time to update those portraits. If you can't see your portait on the forums (and I can't see yours right now), you won't see it on EVEMon. Once it's available to the forums, if it does not show up in EVEMon, right click on the exclamation to find the force download option. We always welcome donations! If you send any isk my way, I'll make sure that it makes it to all the developers. If there's one feature you like above all other, either ask me for that guy's name, or you can send it to me and I'll make sure the lion's share of the donation makes it to that guy.

Thanks for the updated link -- note to self, rtfthread
That said, is the battleclinic site being hit really hard? Pages are taking forever to load - hit the download link (for the right version this time! ) about 5 minutes ago and not a lot is happening. Good thing I am (moderately) patient - this seems like an app worth waiting for.

Has anyone gotten Evemon to work since the Relevations update? Mine won't load updates, only reads from the cache.

Mine worked for ages but the most recent update has killed it. It crashes all the time now.

The workaround is moot atm, the XML feed from CCP is down so Evemon cant access any data. perhaps it will resume after this extended downtime.

What about Plugin Interface inside EveMon, for developers who can add other functionality into the program. I Can help to add it into EveMon. I think it would be better then all players who had skill in C# 2.0 and simple SDK will can make additional tools.

Just a quick note: I bloody love this program. It's saved me days in lost training time now that I'm running two accounts.
I would have one request though: when a skill is completed and says "Wiggy69 has finished training AFK level 6" or whatever, could you make it say "Next skill in plan: Alcoholism level 23" just below it? It'd be a squillion times easier than having to go into the plan and doing it that way.
Thanks for the "killer app", guys. -----

Ok so I had to format my PC this morning and just downloaded the latest version of EVEMon and reinstalled.
Is the implant calculator bugged? I can't get it to accept my attribute changes and thus every plan I make is weeks off.
Never had this problem with older versions.

No it won't. That is against the terms of CCP's EULA. (click the EULA button, bottom right on your client logon screen and scroll down to 7.4 and 10 C)
BTW this is an the old EVEMon thread. The new one is a a sticky at the top of the skills forum. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=517517
