Incompatible jsut means the server is on a different version from your client. It'll auto-update once they release the patch i guess. -----

Notice it doesn't list the server's version number, I think the whole protocol may have changed(requiring a manual download). ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

As it follows the same naming convention as all the previous ones!
Do not install this as we do not know if this will be the version TQ will be running once it comes back up and could potentially lead to patching issues, as for the incompatible issue, that is mearly the login server saying i'm running version XXXX and if your client isn't running that version it will list TQ as incompatible, once the server is up you'll be able to autopatch the EVE client by connecting to TQ. ---

While I agree with the "all hands on deck" approach to getting the server up and the client out asap, I would prefer a little more poractive reporting of the situation from the powers that be. 2 misn or so off the new uptime, and still no ptach or server startin up with no further info on the holdups.
Dont mind the delays so much as long as we know what is going on (this is a second call for a non tech "patch day PR person" to be on the forums while yelling "is it up yet? How about now?" across to the server room.)

Now the ETA is 19:00. I think next patch day you guys should make it 24 hours...it would be better to do it that way, so you always have lots of free time if stuff go wrong, and dont have to have people waiting like this.
Ill be back in a few hours... :)

The MotD has been updated, we are estimating a return to service of 1900. Further troubleshooting into the issue is underway.
Also, do not attempt to patch your play client with the patch for Singularity. Chances are, you will need to do a clean install, as most times the test patches are not compatible with the play server.

Eh it doesn't matter too much to me that we're down right now. Sure I'd like to be running NPC missions for quick ISK but the truth is that I'm just happy I was able to start training a long skill before the down time.
In other news, I'm a complete newbie to Eve and on my sixth or so day of the trial. I've fallen for the game hard and will be upgrading my account to "Giving CCP My Money" status later today! Everyone has been very helpful and the "community" aspect of this game is truly impressive - which is why this is the only MMO that has ever appealed to me.

Patch day is always hectic, and issues always crop up. If this fixes the server issues we've been having for the past 2 weeks, then its well worth it.
Only suggestion I have is alerting players through some ingame means about the upcoming patch. Surprising few players read the forums, I mean come on, and alot are caught by surprise on patch day. Happened to me once when I was very young, and it was how i discovered the forums, only after I lost some 18 hours of training time. perhaps an EVEmail starting a week before patch day?

I'm sorry to say, but there has to be some major concern if code testing and quaility assurance failed this badly. We wait all day and yet again are plauged with delays because someone screwed up.
As much as I love this game, time and again we are let dow. I hope some form of compensation is in the offing for us players (the ones that PAY to play) because of someones lack of attention to detail.

Edited by: Emperor D''Hoffryn on 22/08/2006 18:22:35 The patches and new content is free. That is your compensation.
And has been stated before, its impossible to perfectly test EVERYTHING before you deploy, simply because you cannot simulate the full server load. I had high hopes this time, cause this code has been running in China for some time. I suspect the problem lies in the different server hardware config, which they also cannot test on SISI, as its not a full duplicate of tranq.
relax, it will be over soon. Go outside and discover the sun while you wait.

You actualy now how it looks for a new player who just payd his first bill when he reads stuff like "i lost 18 hours of skilltime" or "next time do it 24 hours". Ah whatever CCP will be at the GamesConvention maybe i get my money back if this is a normal issue.

Let's say the server is offline 4 hours more than supposed to, and you pay around 15 euro's a month...that's 50 cents a day...
wow you want a credit request of about 8 cents?
honestly, things can go wrong. so far I haven't had much problems with EvE so I'm not worried about it much. And I don't ask credit for 8 cents of play time.

I've updated my original post with some information regarding the deployment issue and will continue to do so as information becomes available.
Currently, the server cluster does not start up as it should. Oddly enough, this issue has not presented itself in any of the other CCP servers.
Rest assured the Dev team is doing everything they can to bring Tranquility back to service.

The code has been run on the China cluster. The code has been run on Singularity. They have found a bug running on Tranquility. Given that the bug only manifests itself on Tranquility, how do you propose that code testing should be done?
I know someone's going to jump in at some point and say "I'm a professional and we would be shot if our code did this, we have five nines uptime, yadda yadda". Tough. CCP is still a relatively small organisation looking after a million or so lines of code. We could probably help things by inflating the subscription fees, but I'd rather not do that.
Relax. Pretend that downtime was scheduled to last until 0800 tomorrow. Let CCP fix things. Or go and find an MMO with better quality assurance.

Did you read the DEV blog???
The problem is that TQ has a 2.5 - 3yr old SQL server full of data, even on the Chinese server (that is using this code) could not prdict whats happening.
The trouble is that there has to be a SQL database maintanance and updats of a RUNNING server, this is difficult to do at the best of time, you probably could get the patch up and running in 1 hour, but then that would only work if there was a clean database, you do not want to lose all your skills, chars etc.. would you??
You can not test every possibility, that is VERY costly and would take a very very long time (I have worked in software testing , I know)
The thing is, be patient, chill out, Eve will return soon(tm) ------ Eve-O Recruitment thread
