Originally by: HelenKW I'm sorry to say, but there has to be some major concern if code testing and quaility assurance failed this badly. We wait all day and yet again are plauged with delays because someone screwed up.
As much as I love this game, time and again we are let dow. I hope some form of compensation is in the offing for us players (the ones that PAY to play) because of someones lack of attention to detail.
Always one idiot, that has too come up with this Response.. it happens every patch date.
Im actually crying with laughter, at the reimbursal bit.. because he missed out on 2 hours mining *tear*.

No this just means your game client is a different version to the server, its nothing to worry about and will autopatch once the server is back up. ---

wow you want a credit request of about 8 cents?
honestly, things can go wrong. so far I haven't had much problems with EvE so I'm not worried about it much. And I don't ask credit for 8 cents of play time.
[/quote
that's not really the point is it tho' sauron?
here's the deal: i hand over Çx to CCP, and they in return grant me y months of game time. if the server is unavailable for reasons outside ccp's control - well unlucky they have sympathies - but i still want the amount of time i paid for. if the unthinkable happened and the server was away for 48hrs, then 48hrs more is what i want from ccp.
that doesn't _really_ cost ccp anyhting, but makes us feel loved as a ccp customer more likely to extend subscriptiosn etc. it's not the _cost_ (Ç.08 as u say) which is important to me or ccp, IT'S THE TIME.
as someone pointed out blizzard do this for wow, and i miss that here (on eve)

Oh pls its not like downloading a OS patch for christ sake (and the last MS patch I downloaded screwed my browser).
Issues happen, deal with it...
A lot of under the hood changes are being applied in this patch to make the server more stable...
CCP can't run a full load test till it hits TQ...The upgrade finish times are a ETA as in Estimated Time of Arrivail, not a gold plated certainty... ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |

Edited by: Ehrys Marakai on 22/08/2006 18:35:13 I know people complain because of all this downtime, but it's really not as bad as other MMO's
For example; 1. The Dev's here tell you the truth about what's going on. Please tell me an occassion where Blizzard hasn't either covered it up or denied all knowledge that it's servers are down/faulty. It's always your fault (the client) and is probably your ISP too. (When in the real world of software developing, please give an example when more than 70% of projects are released, to a usually stable working version within the project budget and deadline)
2. TQ is a single clustered server for a huge database of players. It has the record of being the largest single sharded MMO in the world. Although other MMO's have many shards, the servers don't have to deal with as much data in real time.
3. 10 hours for a patch, maybe a day for new content. Deal with it, it's free after all and 9 times out of 10 the devs will warn you when it's coming and say "Set a long skill training!!". If they screw up REAL bad (ie. rollbacks etc, to which I recall there only ever being a single one during my 2 years of play) there's usually some type of compensation along with an apology. Do any other MMO's give you content expansions for free? Do any other MMO's offer compensation after they rollback their data sometimes weeks/months at a time?
The devs at CCP work hard to achieve what we have here and you guys throw it back in their faces. How ungrateful is that?

I want to see a "professional" say they could deploy something like the EVE server better than CCP does it, to the one of a kind cluster it runs on, and then I want to see proof in writing.
There are thousands of people who pay alot more per month for their software, have more problems, and worse customer service than any of you are going to experience here.
Hell, if you don't have the patience for something like this, you probably don't need to be playing EVE anyway.
Keep up the good work CCP. Some of us understand and appreciate it. Thanks.

Never expect Eve to be up and running as expected on patch day. If it is be pleasently suprised. I have seen it happen once. However I would expect Eve to be up and running within the next 3 hours. have only seen it be down longer than that once. I'm just suprised CCP does not jsut say on patch days they will be down 24 hours and plesently surprise people when they are up in 8 or 12 .
Would probably hear a lot less crying.
PS as for teh people who did not see there was going to be a patch... Get glasses. After you log in and right before you click your character there is a section labled News.... guess what is was in there.

People that have said they've "lost" training time are themselves at fault, as they didnt start a long skill to train on patch day. Patch days are always patchy, i dont think i've ever had a smooth running one that wasnt a minor one (and even those are sometimes bumpy)

Yes, I agree. Especially the bit about the 24hrs thing. I'm sure they fully expected to be up and running by now, but hey, no big deal. I have no clue whatsoever about techie IT stuff, so am happy in my ignorance. But if they DID say it's gonna be down for 24hrs, that the mod's would have an easier time, the techie dudes could take their time and not feel rushed into getting the game back online and when everybody does log back in, the site will be working properly.
Because I can read it all now that when it does go up and then back down again [as it prolly will, and as I am told, that's quite normal] then there will be those in here absolutely apoplectic with rage and claims for compensation, etc, etc....
The 24hr suggestion gets my vote - and I get withdrawal after 10mins of DT.

Couple of random thoughts, does the server block ping requests? Also, does the fact I can no longer reach the server suggest either we are about to be delayed another hour, or just my connection is gubbed?

Well... No advertising and no spam... Well.. Well... Sorry :) "I Be Mastaaaa" can, as most of "Congrats I Surely Completly Owns Systems" can or "No Endofstory Corpo" can also... But they all earns billions of cash a day.
Relax... Go watch a film or something and come back tonigh or tomorow, you will not experience massive log-in lag and "oops sorry wrong patch" things that can happen. :p

In response to my own questions there, the server does not block ping requests. (getting responses of about 1-1.5 secs)
Not come to any conclusion about the not able to reach the server for a period there other than possibly a restart.
I am surprised that they allow us to ping it, but hey, that is just me trying to think my way out of boredom, gonna put on a film now and check back every 10 or so minutes.
Heh, want to say guys I am truly gratefull that you are giving me the chance to start my trial (well day 3 anyway) with a brand-spanking new patch! Ta muchly and keep up the gorgeous work!
Also, to all you whinging folks out there, I deal with your sort every day, you do nothing but upset us, be pleasant and we will be more helpful! (work at Tech Support for Blueyonder Broadband)
