Yes just like that guy joked that he'd get fired if it wasn't done before christmas. Or that tux said it's only a week away, a month ago.
I've been playing for over a year and this alt (now my main) was made in May 06. Since the DOB of my character, all I have ever heard from CCP is that they know what the problem is and it will be fixed shortly.
Oh, I'm sure it's not a conspiracy or that they are outright lying to us - that would just be silly - I know it's probably been pushed back and back because it's not all that important - but I'd really like a straight forward deadline. If it's going to be another 6 months so be it - say so. If the process has already started, then we should all be finished and rendered by... 11th January, yes?

As a customer I am not satisfied with this kind of answer. This is a MMORPG isn't it, and is
your character face - even if it is an ugly achura one - an important part of your character?
@CCP: A portrait is not that important for me, but from a business stand of view ****ing of customers is not smart.

Make rendering the character portrait an option on the Forums-Settings page.
Why?
- People who are interested in getting their portrait displayed can take care of queing up the job themselves.
- The portrait rendering machine won't be bogged down with litterally thousands of portraits we'll never see anyway.

The only downside to that is we'd still be answering a bunch of "why can't I see mah face? lol" posts.
Anyway, considering the BEEELYONS of alts and trial accounts that whizz through EVE space, rendering each and every one of them seems like a really crazy approach.

I wonder how the portraits are rendered. Everywhere I see the same old "!", and it's (obviously) not done in alphabetical order.
Maybe they're just not rendering at all, and that's just something they say to make us optimistic for a short while?

The real bugger is that, out of all those 10's of thousands of portraits to be rendered, only about 1% of them are ever likely to post on the forums. So it'll be a long old while before the rendering actually reaches someone who might notice
