Question: -Were you able to bring it on with the early Nov hardware upgrade (but it just not enable yet)? -ETA on when you will start updating portrait again? There is starting to be more CCP employee (dev/qa/isd) without portrait then with them lately! EDIT: here is link to last communication about the upgraded server could find (but could swear there was followup answer in another thread). The only way you'd have to render 600k portraits is if you generate all possible portraits regardless of subscription status and/or character active/deleted flags (if they exist somewhere in the first place). So you have 150k active subscriber accounts, max 3 characters per account (more like 1.5 on average, but I digress), so maybe 200k portraits that SHOULD be rendered. In TOTAL. Including the ones already rendered. So more like 100k or less portraits that need rendering. Furthermore, what if you started with portraits that HAVE at least 1 post in the forums first ("!" only first), THEN work your way through the active subscribers without rendered faces, THEN leave the machine running on all the rest. And why not, make a small check on each post in forum... check for portrait availability (or last update, if older than 1 month) = generate it (again). I mean, nobody cares if somebody that does NOT post in the forum DOESN'T have the portrait generated... now does it ? Heck, even more fun: link the generating machine to the image-serving machines. When ANY of those serving machines detect a image timestamp older than 1 month upon image request, they automatically submit a "generation request" to the other machine. ...and so many more solutions that DO NOT involve "mass-dumb-rendering" approaches. _____ -sig- This is my only char. It took easily 2 monthes before everyone on the forum stopped automatically assuming you were an alt just because you had for a portrait. This char has 11mill SP and gaining Personaly I think the biggest issue with this is that we were informed that the hardware arrived months ago and noone did anything with it, then it was issue after issue and delay after delay, then T20 posted what he did and it's still not working, now none of it's working.. Thats just bad company policy, Staff, Mangement, or whatever. Working to posted timeframes is something that either you do or you get hassled by the boss. Last time I missed a deadline at work(Was BT's fault however) one of the offices was cut off for two weeks while BT sorted out the ADSL line.. I got chewed out, ranted, raved, and alomst sacked. This will most likely be done during a downtime, as we'll replace the old portrait content with the new content (removing redundant portraits from characters that aren't active anymore ... got to save disk space, right?). so basically, the process is : - rendering all portraits - downtime and magic 'copying of image data' - restart rendering with automated replication resulting in updated forumportraits 'almost instantaneously'Ö - chains removed, beard shaved, respect regained and humiliation period over (and finally a decent meal).

If you right-click on someone in-game and do "Capture Portrait" you get the big pic saved in your capture folder. The option is still there, it's just that you have to do it in-game, presumably to reduce some of the load on the 486 that renders the portraits Originally by: Victor Valka What the skull-chick said.
