Holy crap dude those are awesome.
And isolating just a map of forge is sweet. I love you!
I think the way the complexes are labeled or explained in the legend is a bit confusing though. Maybe just me.

Difficult to read... too much is crammed in which hurts the eyes...
I prefer Ombey's 2D maps.... very easy and doesn't leave you wandering what all the little symbols mean...

Why must the sec-status be written sideways? It took me a while to figure out what the symbols were, would be simpler and easier to read if they were right-way-up...

Don't you dare. I'd be lost without your clear, concise, printable and markable maps.
These noew maps look nice, but for down home practical usefulness, I'll be sticking with Ombey.

I gotta argue that. Your map has saved me many ships many of times. And has saved me a lot of time in jumps when plotting long travels. (autopilot just doesn't do it well enough.)
And I'm sure your pioneering was the basis that spawned this new awesome map.

Edited by: Zaiyo Modi on 10/03/2007 14:09:14 Here are my thoughts on the preview map:
-dont like the sec status number tilted at a 90 degree angle -dont like the font used for the sec status, some numbers look like letters -having sec status written as .2 instead of 2 would look better imo -having complementary graphics indicating sec status would be nice imo, like a darker gray on the system names for 0.0 areas, and a lighter one for low sec and high-sec systems.

I have to agree with some of the above really, the Eve-Maps are slick but they are more often than not an information overload.
For someone like me, who just prints off the regions they need and uses it as a reference, the Ombey maps are far superior. AND FREE!

The preview you had with you at the FanFest looked awesome already, can't wait until I got myself a copy of the final. And the little things like stickers for marking new outposts are really usefull, it keeps your book up to date ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

They look pretty nifty, I'll say that much.
However, I prefere Ombey's maps because:
a) I can scribble on them, b) Related to (a), I can print them in bulk.
I do how this could be a must have for a hardcore EVE aficionado, tho.

Yeah, I missed that part in the F.A.Q.:
"> When and where can I buy the EvE Strategic Map Book?"
exactly how much are you planning on charging for this? And is that gonna be ISK or RL money?

Nice maps! Would very much like to see them printed on glossy paper. :)
Here's some suggestions:
1) Rotate the security status numbers either 90 degrees or, if you want them to be sideways for some reason, 180 degrees. It's more natural to turn landscape papers counterclockwise and portrait papers clockwise, at least for me. ;)
2) The yellow dots for complexes are a bit confusing. If you have more than one complex in a system it's difficult to see the exact amounts. Maybe you could use darker shade of yellow for those lower complex levels that are not present and brighter dots for those that are. That way you wouldn't have to subtract one from the dot count of every lower complex level possibly in the system. E.g. system with 2x3/10 & 5x10 complexes would have bright dot on 5, two bright dots on 3 and darker dots on 1, 2 and 4.
3) Start coordinate grid from top left or bottom left corner, not from bottom right.
4) Altough (or even because) the background is black, white is still a perfectly valid color to use in notation.
5) Increase the contrast between station/outpost background and security status number.

Black background is bad is this will cost me a fortune in ink to print out. I'll be sticking with Ombey's maps for now thanks.

They look quite nice, but I don't like the black background.
I have found Ombey's maps to be fully adequate (well actually, really awesome) and they probably offer all of the info that I really need.

I will probably be getting one depending on cost. The black background scares me as far as cost is concerned. The sec status being sideways is my only concern, basically you have to turn the map to read it easy. Do you have an estimate on how much its going to cost? $20, $30, $40, $50?

Eye candy is always nice, but competing with a 2-D/3-D integrated map with real-time statistics is a little tough. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

I can't see the sec status easily since it is sideways. You can barely make out the station services icons too.
I think what would be better is to have different maps for different audiences. To a ratter or PvPer I don't have any interest in knowing if a system has ice or not. ___________________

Serenity, they look very sharp. Unfortunetly to me its more of a collectors item, and less useful to me on a day to day basis. Ombey maps, laminated with a grease pencil FTW, especially since these things change often.
How do you plan to deal with changes to the map? Brand new additions every few months? I ask, since in the last year CCP has made changes on at least 4 occasions that have changed the map. --
