If you petition an account you suspect was hacked you won't actually get the account banned. There has to be other indications that the account was hacked for that to happen.
So what was the evidence that the account was hacked in this case?
Well if my memory serves me right (It doesn't, I'm drunk), there never was any indication that it was hacked. They just temporarily "suspended" it so they could be sure of it. As Wrangler or whoever said, it was a pretty big heist.
I interpreted Wranglers statement as implying that evidence must exist before an account is suspended.
Else we could all go around accusing people of hacking and having thier accounts suspended without any evidence at all. That would be a bad thing would it not?

That was in the case of a petition, the ban was made by the GM's/Staff because of the value of "the heist" and not because anyone filed a petition for "omg h4x" and so forth.
Edit: But yes you are correct, if I for instance filed a petition right now against you claiming that you had sold your account on eBay, I probably would have to go and purchase a new copy of Eve for myself.

If it was between 100 and 300 bil then there would be a significant impact and a huge trail to follow to sort it out if it had been hacked. I think it's pretty reasonable to suspend the account in these circumstances - as long as CCP are careful to minimise the impact on the game.
For example don't suspend the account of someone who's in an interceptor making a dash from Delve with all their T2 BPOs, wait until they get to Empire and dock.

That would imply that accounts would automatically be suspended in the case of a high value theft.
No from what I understand, it was suspended because of a petition asking the account to be investigated because they believed it to be hacked.
However, if the person making the petition provided no evidence that it was hacked, why did CCP suspend the account?
And if there was no evidence or basis for the accusation, what are CCP going to do about someone wasting thier time?

The only quote from Wrangler I could find in 20 seconds was this: """Due to the size of the heist, the GM team took a look into it to see if there were any violations of the EULA. No misconduct was found and any actions taken against the player by CCP were reversed."""
As far as I can tell that means that they did it by their own accord. And ofcourse it shouldn't be banned automatically, and it wasn't. I've heard no mention of petitioning it. I got this off our own forums, no idea where it originated:
(By ProphetGuru) """This is the only official statement you will recieve from Evolution regarding this incident.
Flatliner did indeed clean out several of our hangars. It was him, he was not hacked, and Evolution is not contesting this, crying h4x, or sploit. It was a legit theft. (And then alot of blah blah) That pretty much indicated that they didn't petition it either."""
Edit: Why am I even posting all this ****, I just wanted to show off my new sig.

I dislike corp thief, or espionage in general, in games like this: they create unneeded suspicion and mistrust among communities (i.e. corps). Unlike regular pirating, wars and other mayhem tactics.
Then again, it's hard to feel pity for BOB corps, since to my understanding they support tactics like this.

It's good to see evol attacked like this hopefully more of the dis-gruntled 400+ in evol will do the same in the near future maybe some of the bob pets in the surounding areas will raise up and rebel against thier surpressors and hopefully other bob corps will take advantage of evol's weakness and purge them from the south i personally would like to buy some of the stolen items at inflated prices up to 10x the value to inflated the actual numbers to 3 trillion in looses that would really put a dent in evol's wallet then

(Sorry for spiking some pages of reply).
So, basically, on one hand i really don't think that corp theif should be a valid way to play eve-online. I just mean that people should not fake friendship to hit an oponent, even more if you have to fake friendship for several years.
On the other hand, BoB are dirrectly responsible for making eve-online a game where borderline 'tactics' are a common state of play. I'm thinking about POS offlining againt FA, killing 2 offline titan, POS bumping untill it was recognized as an exploit, being happy with corp theft as a valid tactic.
Thus, i just hope that at least some evol players are disgusted, feeling betrayed, and very upset. I mean, like losing several years of game play an understanding that they have been just stolen their stuff an what they though wad an old friend.
Basically, - you just get what you deserved - (and what you publicy considered as a fun way to play eve-online).
Congratulation for the theft, not specifically for stealing so many stuff (which i don't really approve), but for hopefully showing some BoB players what sort of gameplay they have promoted, and finally why we don't want them online at all.
:) (i expect to smile for the following days)
PS : As usual this is my point of view. You may take it as a TCF point of view, but i personally don't know what my alliance mate are thinking about it. -

When we had our assets in ISSN stolen when the corp was still quite young, it was ransomed back to us for two-thirds of market price.
We accepted and paid, of course, because it was so much easier and cheaper than re-stocking.

The only thing tragic about this entire situation is the pathetic reading comprehension displayed by the muppet brigade.
Some quick points that even a goon could understand.
I didn't say everything had been replaced. I said much of it. Is it illogical to assume a corporation such as ours has reserves? Those of you who know anything about our corp will understand that. Those of you who worry simply about selling a gtc to get your next ship for BoB target practice probably wouldn't.
I didn't say this loss was nothing. I was quite clear in saying that it would be foolish to sit here and say that a loss of this type didn't hurt in game. Of course it does. Try to keep up?
Not one person from Evolution has asked for anyones sympathy here. Frankly we don't want or need it. Those of you laughing at our expense... gg. It's part of the game and we accept that. If I had the inclination to type out the examples of teamwork and brotherhood displayed by Evolutions members and our brothers in BOB during the last 48 hours I would, but to be honest, none of you are really worth the time it would take to do it, and it's doubtful you would comprehend or believe it anyway.
Evolution is not about what we have in our hangars. Most of you won't understand that either, and goons being what they are (ie predictable) will of course make fun of it, but it's the truth.

Nice work in condescending and patronising the entire eve community. Your superiority has been noted, we are not worthy to even read your posts.
If you have bothered to read the many posts from your enemies, you would have noticed the universal contempt for corp thieves. So good job on your own reading comprehension.
The only thing you have done with this spiteful post, is give Goons even more reason to laugh at you.
It is slightly ironic, that 3 posts above yours, was one of mine saying that BOB had done well not to scream and moan about this...guess you just messed up all that PR
