I'm struggling to work out something that would make this implant anything other than a dud if it can't affect probability. I mean, it doesn't have to change probability very much :\ But otherwise it's a big waste of isk, we wouldn't mind so much if it explicitly said it didn't increase probability before we all bought it, but in a market where you NEED to have the best chances to compete, how could any inventor have held back from something that potentially made the difference between profit and isk sink.

Wait, Grey, you're confusing us. It would be that simple if the implant were a simple buff to odds. The only reason it isn't is because CCP devs clearly don't know what the invention implants are for. Am I missing something?
Don't bother with reimbursement petitions either, folks. I tried that and got a curt response indicating that CCP is emphatically not reimbursing draftsman implants.
Seeing as how one of the main rants against invention involves the negative ME values, using the implants to improve ME on invented BPOs would certainly be an option. I just can't believe that it's the laborious programming that's at issue here. This stuff is simple in the maths but difficult to balance in terms of its effects on the market. Or at least that's what I'm pulling down with my tinfoil antennae.
Once again: it's not about the profession or its practitioners: it's about its repercussions on the eve economy.

Originally by: CCP Greyscale The description of the implant is "A neural interface upgrade that boost the pilot's skill at invention.", and it will most likely be boosting some invention-related "skill" (in the loose sense, not the skillbook sense) other than invention probability.
Please make it reduce the ME/PE penalty on invented prints by 50% for G2 and 30% for G1 then.

No, they are definitely NOT adversely affecting your invention chances, and I say that with 100% certainty.
Greyscale,
Thanks a lot for this. I'm sure it'll put mine and many others minds at rest.
Whatever CCP decide to do is always cool with me...you guys haven't done me wrong yet :)
Yours sycophantically,

There's only a few things that can be modified besides success probability. Output ME, PE, and runs I think are the only things.

What exactly is going to happen if I get podded with one of these things in? I'm not impressed with the way this is being handled.
It was ccps mistake that had them in the game in the first place and it was a long time before it was admited that they were worthless. To add insult to injury it was hinted that it would be fixed in an upcoming patch which did not happen. Guys a flat out 'this isn't working and will be removed' within days of the patch introducing them would have saved you a hell of a lot of trouble down the road. Instead of trying to come up with a way to fix them in the future why don't you do something about the problem they are causing now? I'd rather see our LP and isk back and heads emptied through petitions than the run around we are currently getting. I think thats the least you could do.

The same thing as would happen if you get podded with any implant, you get a new fresh head without clumsy electronics fitted.

So many questions..... CCP, we need answers!
Does any1 remember what date these implants were introduced? We must be gettin' close to anniversery, right? Will there be a special 'Draftsman' GI-party at the FF? What is better, cake or pie?

How about we have a Dev step-up and address this topic with a meaningful answer?
When will this implant be fixed? many patches have come and gone, and it seems you guys still don't even know what you want to do here.
What will the fix actually be?
If you can't answer either direct question with a timely and meaningful response, can I please, PLEASE just get my isk back? It has been 6-months and $90 worth of subscription fees since this was botched after all.
The number of these implants that exist in game times $90.00 would be a VERY interesting number to know.

Better ME would be nice effect from implant. Say +2 for the cheapo one and +4 for the expensive one.

Originally by: CCP Greyscale As you can probably tell from the patchnotes, we didn't get the fix we wanted for these implants in for this patch. They will be fixed (to do something useful) in a future patch - I'm sorry that this situation has occurred at all, please show just a little more patience while we deal with it.
Originally by: CCP Greyscale If it was that straightforward it would be fixed already.
No, they are definitely NOT adversely affecting your invention chances, and I say that with 100% certainty. As to the actual fix, it's still not decided exactly what form it will take but it's very likely that it will NOT increase your success probability. The formulas have been very carefully balanced and we're not going to mess with them via hardwirings. The description of the implant is "A neural interface upgrade that boost the pilot's skill at invention.", and it will most likely be boosting some invention-related "skill" (in the loose sense, not the skillbook sense) other than invention probability.
Well...... Trinity or even more patience?

Taking bets that this implant (which once sold for as much as 300m isk per unit), when 'fixed', will give a -5% invention time bonus and the few in existence will become worthless except to collectors. This would be entirely in line with the other implants of this type, which reduce the time required for other types of research, but it would be a worthless bonus.
Most people who already do invention in any great quantity have a POS somewhere in order to avoid the queues in public copy slots. This gives them a -50% bonus to invention times and lots of slots (5 per normal lab) making a further invention time bonus superfluous. Even the longest jobs at present are such that you'd only save a couple of hours; unless you can save an entire day on one job (or at least 8 hours - 1 night's sleep) any one person is unlikely to be able to benefit from the bonus.
My suggestion for this implant would be to double the effect of the number of runs on the input BPC, allowing people to spend less time copying and more time inventing. My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

My suggestion for this implant is that the devs get off their a$$ and fix it. Or at the very least talk about it - that'd be a good start.

bumpskies for an incomprehensibly slack response to this since the get-go.
i've said it before and i'll say it again: invention to ccp is a market corrective, not a "career"
for those of us that have had significant resources tied up in these implants and have petitioned asking for a reimbursement to no avail, ccp's non-response is insulting and enraging.
whatever the "fix" is, we should be given the option of reimbursement rather than a kick in the pants.

Can a dev step up and respond to this thread? At least give us some kind of update like "we are too busy to look at this right now" or "you invention guys aren't as exciting as the pvp guys" or "we haven't really bothered to do anything about this yet and don't plan to for a while" or "haha.. look at all those inventors who wasted their time on cybernetics v and 85K loyalty - we needed a money sink to balance the economy" - something like that.
Well I respond: "pretty soon it will be a year later and my sweet +5's are about to break even!" or "well im busy too you guys, too busy to think about inventing right now" or "85k loyalty?? what was I going to do with that anyway??" or "one day my 150mm railgun I's are going to catch a pvp guy hauling out all his stuff in an unescorted freighter and that is going to be a good day indeed!"

Here we go... another patch. Anything in the patch notes about the implants being fixed?.. nope.
I for one am at the end of my patience. Reimburse me for your blunder already CCP, I already filed the petition 2 weeks ago which remains unanswered.
