- Dont ask anyone to do something you arent prepared to do yourself first.
- Always lead by example, if you lack discipline in yourself how can you ask it of others.
- Your men are a finite and precious asset, husband them and care for them and they will deliver when you need them.

As for the youth, I think its more that todays youth, especially the so called "elite" have a massive chip on their shoulder that has come from their parents and only gotten bigger.
Family connections and pedigree only get you so far these days. They seem to have the pre financial crash attitude that for them its going to be gravy from the get go and they can slack off while their underlings do the heavy lifting.
Well not at this firm sunny boy. As every NCO loves to say, we work for a living. And that comes as quite a shock. I'll interview anyone with a modicum of intelligence if they show the spark, i dont care about what you've done, i care about what you can do.
Thats a real sign of todays post WW2 "upper class" the older families have grown into the wealth and are as down to earth as you or i and have self confidence and self assurance coming out of their ears. They dont need to be in your face about anything as they have nothing to prove to anyone. The newer generations are far too flashy and lack that most key thing of all, class.
Right enough moralising. Time to crack on with some work so i can report this to head office when they wake up.

While this is true, it's not so much the "class" that worries me. There is a lack of "class" in ALL levels of society.
What bothers me most is the entitlement mentality. There are generations of people growing up that believe that something is "owed" to them and that they "deserve" it. The concept of working/earning your keep is, well....foreign.
How many times have we seen the forums explode over a change in the game? Once you get past the trolls, I just want to tell these people that "if you dont like it, stop playing it." "CCP OWES us nothing. You have made a choice to pay for the opportunity to be entertained." A lot of people now-a-days feel that this should be in writing.
"Well, I pay my money and they have to ...rabble rabble rabble" No, they dont.
This is just a microcosm of the mentality that becoming more and more pervasive. If it's not EVE, then it's Call of Duty. If it's not CoD, then it's something else.
"Caveat emptor" is an expression thats been around for, what, a couple THOUSAND years? If I make a purchase without doing my research and do not like/have a bad experience with it, it's MY fault for making an uninformed choice.
Sorry all. I'll end my rant.

Right. But on the other hand this is growing into a serious problem. We have several departments where about 75% of the staff are permanently sick, and they cannot be fired (which is originally a good thing). Problem now is that the remaining 25% get so drowned in work that they quickly burn out and call in sick themselves. It's paralyzing the entire system. There are many people unemployed, hoping for a good job- and the work is there, only the position is occupied by someone who hasn't shown up for a year or so....

Socialism works till you run out of other peoples money.
I say it works till it goes too far over the line with people who pay in more than they take out. Take tertiary education, its free in some places not because a place is rich, but because it makes the population wealthier in the pong run and hence pay more taxes. Same with the NHS, no stress over healthcare means less people getting ill over worries or bankrupt and stop paying taxes.
Quid pro quo, then you get needless beurocracy and community support officers when the government forgets this simple rule....
Also been stuck in bed ill today, called my gp at 8am, got an appointment at 11:15 and picked up the medicine around 12:00. Worst hayfever I've ever had, couldn't walk in a straight line and my over the counter pills werent doing anything. Paid nothing, would be back to work tomorrow if I weren't on holiday

Not socialism. Job security is a human right in my opinion. The problem only comes when people are long term sick and cannot be replaced since they are officially handicapped. So if the employer cannot fire those who do not work, but is losing money due to that work not being done, he will save money elsewhere- sometimes that means sacking those people who actually work, since they are not handicapped and not protected by the law. And the downward spiral begins. There is no easy solution to this problem, but giving those long term invalids a good pension (that they actually can live on) much earlier would open these jobs again to perfectly healthy people who are willing to work but don't get the chance.

You play Eve Online, last I checked its an extreme mix of libertarianism with anarchic undertones.
My view is that a Business is there to make money, a government to bankroll that which isn't.
Surely your company gets either tax writeoffs or a the may of those guys funded by the state? A Bankrupt business can't fund a state, everyone's got a stake in a successful enterprise.

It could still hold water. I am 23, working full time to fund my first own place in the near future and to be able to AFFORD (notice how this is kind of congruent to 'EFFORT'?) some nice things for my girlfriend and myself, while the felt majority of people my age either doesn't care about that funny thing called "working" that only old and/or poor people do, or already have 3+ children to live off state money.
In my opinion, too many parents can't say "No". Luckily mine did (and I love them even more for it than I already do), because otherwise I would probably still run to my father and beg for some money to spend on luxury ****.
Also, there is this thing called "sense of achievement" that those poor people will probably never be able to feel. Imagine how incredibly awesome it felt for me to finally be able to buy my dream car at the age of 22 from my own money. |

A whole -ú50 earned, for a single days work. This was the kind of money I used to buy a months worth of food at the time. So I cane back, and I saw a notification from Steam, Duke Nukem Forever launch in a hour 30 minutes.
Well hot damn I thought, I'm in.
And that's why I can't help but a tingly good feeling whenever people bash that game
