I was so annoyed when i discovered that i couldn't use Antialiasign with the new HDR capabilities (Read: Bloom) of the Trinity engine, that i set out to find how to make it work....HACK
Well there is a well known application for nvidia cards called nHancer. This app has a compatability fix that makes it work
I'll let the picture speak for itself: Linkage

I can tell you, with an 8800GTX, it will slow down a bit with 16x AA and extreme shadowing. That said, i have been fighting lagless with those settings at FFA1 with about 5 people and 25 drones there
Turn the setting in the top right of the program as seen here. AA and HDR will be working on supported cards then (note that this is probably only the 8xxx series of nvidia and up. It is said that ati cards from x1000 and up support it, but i have yet to see a work around like this to make it actually work....) _______

Finally! Yes! Thanks to the OP.
I'm running happily on the following in-game settings:
Shadow Quality: High Cache Size: Extreme Screen 1: 1920 x 1200 (Window Mode through EVE Launcher) Screen 2: 1600 x 1200 (Window Mode through EVE Launcher)
nHancer settings:
Anti-Aliasing: 8x Multisampling with Gamma Correction & SuperTransparency. Anisotropic Filtering: 8x Anti-Aliasing Compatibility: Oblivion (AA & HDR) High Dynamic Range (HDR): Checked
This is running on a Windows Vista Ultimate x86, P4 4.41GHz, 3GB RAM & a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB PCIe.
Works like a charm!

There might just be a little something for ATI-users to enable the Oblivion workaround in a similar manner as for the NVIDIA-cards:
AMD ATi Knowledge Base - 737-21960: Catalyst Beta 6.9 for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - aka The Chuck Patch
bit-tech.net - ATI delivers AA+HDR for Oblivion
Just Google away, there are tons of info on the subject.

As far as i know this is now integrated into the regular catalyst drivers.
Forcing AA through the catalyst panel doesn't seem to do the trick though. After comparing full AA without HDR and HDR with full AA it looks to me like the AA gets disabled by turning HDR on regardless. Using Ati Tray Tools to force AA doesn't seem to make them work together either.

I used it when the Trinity 2 / graphics updates first got on SiSi, and I'm not 100% sure why, but with the latest beta drivers + nHancer my graphics temps went up to 94C(And wernt done rising). Now, not to say this is 100% the program (May / may not be, I don't know - thats why im asking for others to see their temps), but I find it odd my temps went up 15C+ after installing it - and went back down to normal after uninstalling it and reinstalling my graphics drivers.
(Edit: And before anyone tells me 8800 GPUs are safe at that temp - I know. It's not the temp that bothers me, its the fact it rose only after I installed that program, and didn't look to be done rising).

Well, i havn't had time to do some dumps of my settings since last post. But my machine specs are: Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.4 GHz OC 2GB Corsair terminator Geforce 8800GTS 640MB version
Running at 2x(1600x1200) Dual monitor. Eve running full screen on primary monitor.
Eve settings: Shadows: High Cache: extreme HDR: enabled ... doh Bloom: high (Remember that bloom is resolution dependent and not scene complexity dependent)
But i noticed when i installed the full version of trinity for TQ that i had to mess around with the settings a bit before i got it to nice AA and HDR actually working.
I'm not too fond of my fps though... i get around 30-35fps inside and outside of station, but i havnt tried it with several ships on TQ.
Will post some screens of my nhancer settings when i get home tonight.
BTW: I know of no fix for ATI...sorry

I'm confused, why do you need the nHancer program to make those changes. You can do that from the Nvidia Control Panel, under program settings. |

You cannot set the HDR + AA compatibility in the control panel, it's a hidden setting somehow... So until CCP contacts nVidia on the issue and have the setting defaultly applied to the eve client, this is the only work around.
Also, if you check that compatiblitity setting, check the AA setting on the enhancements tab too to activate AA. Just checking the compatibility isn't enough... _______

Look at the link in my first post in this thread. The nhancer app facilitates the option to choose the compatability setting as Sleepkevert wrote. I have no preference for nhancer...but i found that it could help me play eve at its bes...so that is why i used it

A little note on getting this to work....
(Because I could not get it to work all day)
But I think I know why =)
It needs to be pointed to 'evefile.exe' not the 'eve.exe' that it defaults too!

Turn HDR off in EVE & let nHancer do the work.
Also, with these settings, I've noticed that when I launch EVE, the AA is not activated. Just 'Esc' out & hit one of the apply buttons in the graphics settings without doing any changes, 'Esc' out again. That should do it.

That sounds weird, you sure it's nHancer forcing this?
Friend of mine had similar things happening & was ****ed at the EVE Launcher app not letting him keep EVE maximized with the "Semi-full screen" mode using a dual screen setup (client minimizes if running fullscreen & clicking on secondary display window). Turns out he constantly forgot to press "Apply" when setting window-mode in the EVE graphics configuration :)
I'm not saying you are doing something similar, just asking if you think you've eliminated the most obvious (and therefore maybe easily overlooked) possibilties since I've never heard nHancer can even force a resolution?

Do you notice any difference in Eve performance depending on where the HDR is activated?
The reason I ask is that pre-Trinity EVE gave me better framerates if FSAA was activated via the drivers vs. Eve's graphics settings. ...

I use nHancer, too, and set it for 16x CSAA and 8x super-sampled transparency AA. I use Normal shadows and Low bloom. I get between 40-60fps when sitting in a large POS bubble with all the POS modules about, and that's about as "bad" as it gets. I get 60-70fps in other places, including Jita 4-4 undock, and over 100fps in station.

That's odd, the first time I ran EVE Trinity (TQ) under nHancer, it opened in windowed mode, but I prefer full screen. It was no big deal though, alt+enter toggles between full and windowed, no problem.

hm... when i choose "supersampling 4x S" it's all fine in fullscreen, but kind of wierd in windowed mode... i mean, it DOES something... it all looks kind of softer, but more like running a tft with a lower resolution than the native one.

No, I cannot activate HDR ingame since it then turns off any AA set through the drivers. The only way to get HDRI working for me has been to disable it in EVE & force it with the nHancer Oblivion trick. Neither have I performed any benchmarking running only with HDRI (shifting between nHancer/EVE HDRI) & no AA since in my opinion, AA is a visual requirement to enjoy this games graphics to it's fullest. I simply cannot stand ugly jaggiez.

I have had no problems (ie. few problems) running windowed or semi windowed through EVE Launcher. I just hit escape, and then escape again at the logon screen if I notice that AA is not active (easy to see near the planet/starlight). This seems to pair up the AA with HDRI & the jaggiez are gone.

Ok, i made something wrong. I had HDR activated in Eve. But also in nhancer. But it still don't work! So:
fullscreen + hdr in eve + aa = works
window + hdr in eve + aa = don't works
window + no hdr in eve + aa = works
window + no hdr in eve + hdr over nhancer = aa yes, but no hdr
Pressing ESC doesn't change anything...

In Vista, I had to use global settings in nhancer rather than profile specific ones just to get this to work. Also, strangely, AA didn't work unless I had HDR turned on as well - possibly from selection of Oblivion compat mode.

Now, I don't know if you are running XP or Vista but I searched the registry on my own Vista machine, and it turns out that these files:
disk1.cab nHancer.msi
are actually located under:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\KSE\nHancer\install
so my bet is that if you are running XP, they would be located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\KSE\nHancer\install
Hope this helps.

I get around 30-40 fps in station depending on ship model. In space i have roughly the same...
Thats it
Im using these setting on my rig. Seeing about 53-55fps in and out of stations. 8800GTX 768, E6600, 2GB Ram.

Okay I was able to install nHancer. One of those screenshots has a "DISABLED PREDEFINED PROFILE". How do you disable a profile? http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=evenhancer02fc6.png
then I need to make another profile with those settings for EVE right?

I've created another profile for Eve Online in nHancer and used the settings of Erragan Saddar, but the predefined profile by Nvidia doesn't disable itself.

I had to duplicate the predefined profile to disable it anyway it still doesn't work. Maybe it's not so compatible with 8800 cards for anti Aliasing.

Howdy,
after reading alot of topics about that problem i have some question.
1. HDR and AA seems only be possible for Nvidia Cards series 8xxx ? no way to get it running with 7xxx cards ?
2. is there a way to get AA running without HDR on GF 7950 GT ? i have tried to force via Nhancer Tool and by Driver. Turned HDR ingame off, AA by Driver and Nhancer on. NO Change.
Even tho i have 1680 X 1050 resolution running, that flickering step effects from NO AA is horrible. it just looks ****.
Any Help welcome.

FIX - In Windows Vista / 8800 GTX / wo nHancer
-Specify in Nvidia Control Panel necessary Antialising parametres manually, for example: AA mode: Override any app settings AA seting: 8xQ AA transparency: Supersampling
-Find file ExeFile.exe (for example in "***********\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe") -Copy it! -Rename copy in Oblivion.exe -Start a new file -Windows (game?) will suggest to move this file in temp a folder -Remember specified folder path(Have not remembered at once? Repeat once again! ) -Find the moved file on this path and create shrotcut for it (just for convenience! )
Wow! AA works, with HDR!
PS: sorry for my BAD english! But the information is more important.

More simple start is possible with CMD file.
It is possible to copy new file Oblivion.exe in other folder and to start game CMD by a file.
These contents of my text file EVE.CMD - edit path according to your folders:
copy C:\EVE\0\Oblivion.exe C:\EVE\bin\ C:\EVE\bin\Oblivion.exe exit

I agree...people should not have to fight so hard to make eve look at its best. Are you listening CCP
Seems like a lot of people can't use the setting i have to get the desired AA+HDR, but my best advice is play around with the settings. Thats what i did. try the differetn compatability settings, not just the oblivion setting.

Same for me as well. 8800GTS. 163.71's. 163.75's are up though, might try those.
(Also happens when I move around station environments - it'll just flash a bright sampled blob or a hard square for the tiniest fraction of a second when a very bright pinpoint happens.)

Exactly same effect error as you describe. But sisnce the devs didn't support this feature...i dont think we are gonna get it fixed.
My driver version is: 169.09 Beta, so dont think its a driver issue... But hey, anythings possible |

It isn't a driver issue, it has something to do with the AA and the engine itself not working together for the full 100% as you guys forced it (so did I, thx OP) upon it, thats why you'll get sporadic white boxes when cloaked and inside stations at a certain point. So I hope CCP will get AA + HDR to work soon with ingame support, so we won't get those artifacts. Anyway Eraggan, you won Eve for a day, as the Dev said, you have a serious case of Win

You can enter hexadecimal value into the AA compatibility box. Try 0xf0000045 , with this value AA + HDR is working and no white flashing bug.

I've tried a bunch of crap and read most of what I could find and I think its time that I just posted and said HELP!
I'm still not able to get HDR and AA running at the same time with nHancer, driver options, or anything.
With nHancer i tried the oblivion HDR and AA thing and that does nothing at all as i just lose all AA when i turn on HDR. I've tried some other things from this thread and others (and im not sure if i did them right...) with no success.
My Specs: Eve: latest version running through Eve launcher (which lets lose all hell on nHancer)and I run up to two clients on one monitor windowed at 1680x1050 and using eve launcher to position them like they're fullscreen
My computer: OS: XP MCE with service pack 2 (though DXdiag likes to tell me its XP professional (5.1, build 2600) which is a lie) CPU: intel core 2 cpu 6400 @ 2.13GHz GPU:NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT (512mb) Driver version: 6.14.0011.6921 (from 12/5/2007) Monitor: the Mac cinema display with 1680x1050 native res Audio card: some onboard piece of crap, but I use a USB headset that overrides it, it think.
Side note: I built this computer myself and I'm sure there countless errors in how I installed windows and all that so basically it never runs like it should.
Any help would be REALLY appreciated! thanks, Kael

I'm having the same problems here with the 169.21 drivers. Everything worked fine before, then I updated, now none of the AA stuff shows up. Part of the initial problem was Eve being coded into the new control panel. I had to track it down in a configuration xml file to get rid of it, in order for nHancer to even allow me to add Eve to the list.
Now, it's there, but none of the same settings I had before are working. Anyone having similar problems, and/or know of a setup that works?

Try this together with Forceware 169+ if you have not done so already:
New Features in nHancer 2.3.2 (2007 11 02)
* Support for 8800 GT (G92) cards * Compatibility with Forceware 169+ added * Added Italian User Interface (thanks to Giulio Sosio!) * Fixed installer problem that impeded installation on some systems with non-latin unicode settings * Several additional 8x00 cards (G84 & G86) and 7x00 cards detected correctly now * Added new SLI mode introduced with Forceware 169 * Smaller bugfixes

I refuse to believe that 7950 GT just won't AA this game.

i just also upgraded to 169.25 drivers, and AA+HDR didnt work anymore through nHancer w/ Oblivion Mod. Using SplinterCell4 or HL2 gives me back AA, and it looks like if HDR is also working again (telling from the FPS drop when switching it on/off in nHancer).
Turning HDR on ingame always turns of AA, no matter which compatibility mode i choose.

Edited by: Sherazade Le''**** on 27/12/2007 12:48:19 Edit: Spelling, clarifications somewhere i read those predefined profiles are saved within windows registry. but i didnt remove the profile from nvidia panel, only loaded the default one and set those AA values to Off, started up nhancer, created a second eve profile, imported eve.exe and Exefile.exe (w/ Directory) for both my clients into the new profile, and began adjusting AA and stuff. I also checked the box "Profile can be activated manually".
On Enhancements i only set AA to Multisampling 4x (higher value kills FPS below 60, its only a 8600gts), NO gamma correction, multi/supertransparency at all. Anisotropic Filtering is 4x, no forced Vsync (forced within Eve: Interval def.). No Options activated in the Optimizations tab. Compatibility tab: AA compat. is Splinter Cell4 [00000200], HDR enabled. Rest unchecked. After playing around with settings i always do a "Tools > Activate Profile > eve" and they seem to be immediately activated when alt-tabbing back to the game.
Settings in Eve are: Shadow High, HDR off, Cache High, Present Interval: Interval default (Vsync)
forcing HDR in EvE will always disable AA hope this helps o/

Well, thank you Sherazade Le'****, it seems that at least AA is working, now that I've disabled it in every option for Eve in the NVIDIA Control Panel, and set up nHancer as you suggested. Unfortunately, HDR doesn't appear to be active, so hopefully we can all mess around and figure out a tweak that will once again allow HDR and AA.

Well, still seems there are a lot of people that can't make this work. Sadly i can only tell you that i had to try a lot settings combinations before it worked for me. But it seems like the 7950 users is having problems. Isn't that essentially 2 cores on one board running SLI? maybe that is where the problem is. Just a thought.
Regarding the profiles in driver. You can make nHancer disable the original nvidia Eve profile by making a duplicate (next to add and remove buttons below profile list) and click yes at the prompt. Maybe that will work. |

Eh... I don't have this problem, at least if I understand you correctly. Without this fix: When i fly in my Buzzard i have small light points on the ship (The ones that make it look cool, not errors). Then when i cloak, I get flashy white squares popping at the edges, upon the transparent cloaked model with rim light pulsing. Also, the light points are removed. With the fix: Same as above but no flashy white squares.
Is this what you experience?

Vista x64 8800 GTX: Works quite well - the game looks a thousand times better now, thanks for the tip.
I still get the white squares when cloaked, but its worth it for the HDR. If you have FR issues drop your shadows to high from extreme- that provides a serious boost, and if you want to check to see if the HDR is working, activate a stargate- it'll be obvious.
You sometimes have to alt+tab or esc out and in again (without changing settings) for it to work. I have to have HDR enanabled in the options menu to get both that and AA on together which contradicts what others are reporting. |

As far as i know this "fix" only works in fullscreen.
And regarding the fix posted with changing the filename to oblivion.exe: This is not necessary! I have found though, that sometimes i have to activate the profile manually from nhancers tray icon or in the tools menu. Then you can just alt+tab back into eve and then you have the AA+HDR.
To get rid of the flashing squares when cloaked write "0xf0000045" into the AA compatibility box. |

I finally got it working for myself. HDR and AA as far as I can tell. Only in full screen though, as seems to be the general case.
I do believe Coverage Sample had absolutely no effect, all the others seemed to work. Settled for 4xS Supersampling. The only things I changed were AA settings and compatibility (oblivion did the trick). I also made sure the profile is manually activated through the taskbar.
*In the Nvidia panel, I set Eve AA to override (using 174,9 beta drivers) and supersampling, left the amount of AA at "default global setting". I'm not sure whether this had any effect, just mentioning it.*
I'm running Vista x32 and a GeForce 8800GTX. I tried a gazilion things from here and other threads and nothing seemed to work. So I can't really say why it did, but these are the settings and drivers I'm using in nHancer and Control Panel now, and they work.

Specs: BFG 7800 GTX (256MB) Windows XP x64 Standard 169.21 drivers
Settings in nHancer: Tried the ...45 Oblivion code, no dice. Currently on the ...200 Splinter Cell code. Both have the same quality issues.
Enhancements: AA: Supersampling 4x4 Gamma Correction: On Super-Transparency AA: On Antistropic: 16x
Optimizations: Texture Filtering: High Quality HDR: Off (both in-game and in nHancer)

Here is an example of it. Every time the ship moves, there's shimmering going on with the textures. The guns look like they're sparkling and little bands wash up and down my ship. It looks like crap and no other settings I've tried fixes it. You can see what I'm saying with the texture distortion on the panel right above the thrusters.
Anyone else have a 7800 and have been able to get it to look good?

Edited by: Jenny Loo on 14/05/2008 07:18:47 Those of you who were asking about 8800 GTS and GTX temperatures.
I did some research on this case after my gpu went 80C. Do you honestly believe that anything above 70C is healthy for your vga? What my research revealed was that 8800 gpu's bios are configured in a strange way. By default settings your gpu fan works at 36% all the time, until the temp reaches 90C or so. Then it speeds up killing the temp.
There are 2 ways to make your gpu cooler. First and the easiest one is using ntune/rivatuner set the manual fan speed to 60% (more than 60% will speed up your fan and cause more noise. Try 100% you'll see what I mean). 60% speed is enough to maintain <60C gpu. The second way is to manually edit gpu's bios (what I wouldn't recommend if you have no clue how to do it). Bios editing is more efficient tho as you can edit conditions like if the temp get's higher than 60 or 70C, then fan will speed up till the temp drops to a certain level and then it will slow down.
All in all the fastest way to increase your vga's lifetime is to get riva or ntune and maintain a higher fan speed than 36%. The ridiculous original bios settings are far from trusting them.

Hey gents, I run a pair of 8800GT's in SLI with 4GB RAM on a quad core Intel. I am running nHancer with the default setup for EVE online which is SLI:AFR[0x02400001] with HDR on High and maxed graphics in game.
The game runs great however I get an odd slow down only when I am rolling the view around in space and I move in a cicrle, every time I roll to where the sun is just out of view it slows to 20 fps from 230 fps. If I look at my ship and the sun and move it just right it will cause the slow down as well. Very annoying. Other then that I get 200+ fps. Thoughts?

The Geforce 6xxx and 7xxx series were infamous for their horrible texture flickering caused by using the anisotropic filter. If I were you, I would disable it completely as a first measure. If that doesn't work, turn transparency AA off. If that doesn't work, turn off both the anisotropic filter and transparency AA.
Additionally, check your Z-Buffer settings ingame. EVE recommends the 32bit buffer.
Also note: when you are only trying to force antialiasing, and leave HDR off, it is probably irrelevant which compatibility mode you use - since those are only really needed for using both HDR and AA at the same time.

EDIT: No change after disabling the Enhance option :( Just to check, it does automatically update right? there isn't some magical "turn on custom settings" button is there?
Then I would go and disable everything not immediately needed.
I.e.: - On the "Compatibility" tab, uncheck "force mimaps". - On the "Optimizations" tab, uncheck everything - On the "Enhancements" tab, uncheck everything except for "anti-aliasing", and pick a non-combined mode for starters, like 2x2 SS or 4x MS.
Then, if you get it to work, you can slowly start adding stuff back, and see where it breaks.
8xS combined is lousy anyway because it gobbles up performance but only supersamples the horizontal edges, and not the vertical ones. That's why it says "1x2 SS" - it means that the image is rendered at normal horizontal and double vertical resolution and then shrunk down to fit the monitor, thus reaching much less pixellated horizontal edges.
If you want the whole image supersampled, you need to choose 2x2 or 4x4 so that the entire image is rendered in double or quad resolution (poor graphics card ).
Or you simply use multisampling alone, which works by blurring the colors along polygon edges, making the 'staircases' much less obvious. it takes a lot less performance (4xMS goes faster than 2x2 SS), but if you're picky, it doesn't look as good (because well, you don't get perfectly sharp edges anymore). |

Hi all,
I've been using nHancer to force AA to work with HDR on, and I can confirm it works. However, the weird thing is since the last Trinity update (The last one before Empyrean Age was deployed), AA will not work in windowed mode. This is pretty disappointing because I run in 1680x1050 on my 1920x1200 screen in a window so I can multitask when I have downtime. I can simply alt-enter to go into fullscreen and bam AA is on. And disabling HDR doesn't seem to change anything so it's just the fact that it's running in a window.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm sure that many others who run windowed mode also enjoy AA . |

Thanks for the tips :) But sadly even with EVERYTHING unticked except AA (SS 4x4) and AA compatibility (45) it still doesn't work... Got why did nVIDIA have to break nTune, used to work straight off the bat with that... |

FINALLY got this thing going. Had to make sure to set the nVidia Control Panel to the default Global settings as well as the EVE default settings. After that, any change I made in nHancer worked in EVE.

Edited by: Jolliejoe on 13/06/2008 08:41:19 Never worked for me... Using the latest nhancer, eVGA 8800 GTX and such.. Still no AA+HDR...
Anyway, setting AA to more than 4x with 2 clients running on my quad core and 4 gigs of RAM reduces the eve client to a slideshow like 18 fps thingy...
Also HDR gives very weird display artifacts...

Any word on a solution for windowed mode? I run one client 1680x1050 windowed, using either eveMon or startEve to fit the window to the screen. I seem to remember having AA in windowed mode pre "fancy pants" client.
It would be a beautiful thing. Minmatar ships need AA to smooth out the jagged lines.

Same here - I wish I could get AA and HDR in windowed mode so bad. I have a 1920x1200 monitor but I run in EVE in a 1680x1050 window so I can access my second monitor and multitask; you can't use a second monitor in fullscreen unless you minimize .
AA + HDR definitely works using nHancer as long as the "Obivion (AA & HDR)" compatibility mode is selected, but only works in fullscreen. I don't think It's really a problem with the EVE client as much as a driver issue. I say this because during my fiddling with nHancer I discovered that sometimes AA actually wouldn't work in fullscreen (only in windowed mode) depending on what anti-aliasing compatibility mode you had selected. For example, "00000000 General Compatiblity" fixed that. My guess is that for some reason the "0xf0000045" compatibility mode is somehow not programmed to work in windowed mode.
I hope that makes sense what I said above. I'm going to open up a couple other games including Oblivion that use HDR, to test and see if the 0xf0000045 mode is the stumbling block keeping it from working in windowed mode

I don't use ntune...it's a piece of garbage and only causes bluescreen crashes on Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I use the EVGA Precision app to overclock my card and set the fans. I set the nVidia Control Panel to all the default settings, and then changed my settings in nHancer.

Not exactly, it's an extension to the control panel. That can auto-tune your settings (in theory).

Today I had to reinstall windows, and along with that a bunch of program updates that were long overdue. I hadn't played EVE in one month+ so I had to update to the new expansion. At the same time I also updated nHancer. I don't know which update is the culprit, but I no longer have AA in EVE. It's the same settings I used in Trinity. Is there anything that needs to be changed for the new expansion or the new nhancer?

Hahahaa! Whats up with the crap ram? lmao. And you can just throw away the PhysX card. All it's doing is taking up space and it doesn't work on most games anyway. Add to that the fact that soon nVidia will release drivers that enable physx support for all 8-series or higher cards.

From what I've heard you can get AA+HDR to work in windowed mode if you use 0xF0000045 compatibility (notice the F in the beginning). Never tried it myself though.

No, the 0xF0000045 compatibility setting is to avoid the flashing white boxes that may appear when using AA+HDR and your ship is cloaked. So sadly not |

This is the fix: You can enter hexadecimal value into the AA compatibility box. Try 0xf0000045 , with this value AA + HDR is working and no white flashing bug.

I'm pretty sure you need an 8-series nvidia card to get HDR+AA. You may, however, be able to get AA working by itself. Have a look here. ...

I would agree that it'd be nice if some sort of AA option was available in the menus in-game. However, I can confirm using nHancer with the hexadecimal AA compatibility hack works on my GTX 280, Forceware 177.41.

I've tried everything in this thread. I simply cannot get AA and HDR working on my EVGA 9800GX2. And I'm curious as to why this might be. From reading in this thread, there's a bunch of nvidia cards out there that have the ability to force AA and HDR. Mine can't.
I'll have to use Google to dig deeper for an answer and hopefully a solution to this problem.

For me, I had to remove Nhancer from my system. It was causing random crashes & lockups
I'm guessing it's because I'm running Vista 64 (and we all know what happens when software tries doing something it shouldn't on there). Used to get the occasional crash on XP pro but not as bad as with Vista (I'm running a dual boot so have had the added luxury of testing both)!!
And that was tested with: (old GFX - XP Pro & VIsta 64) 8800GTX
(New GFX - XP Pro & Vista 64) GTX 260 (x2) in either stand alone config or SLI
Also tried the above cards on the other 2 house pc's which have just the one O/S installed (one has vista 64, the other XP Pro) And identical results!!
I do recall reading somewhere on the Nvidia site of issues trying to enable AA & HDR simultaneously with certain cards.. guessing they still haven't resolved it yet

WARNING
Be VERY careful when using nHancer.. I too didnt really see any harm in simply changing the AA compatability settings, they are even listed as a "safe" setting to change, if i remember correctly.
But after playing with the premium gfx for a month or so, i found out about nHancer, so i downloaded it, and tried it out. Granted it worked well to get AA + HDR in eve via the Oblivion compatability code.
However the framerate drop was big, so some dudes on the forums recommended to switch to another compatability code, which would reduce the drastic drop in fps. I had already tried about 3 others, with no effect, but the fourth one i tried had drastic consequences.
My entire graphics card just died as soon as i started up the game again, bam. Screen went black, monitor led-light flashing, totally dead, forced to buy a new one for Ç150. So again, be very careful, apparantly those tweaks are NOT harmless, and could very well completely pwn your graphics card, dont mess with nHancer unless you are prepared to buy a new graphics card. Piece of **** application, indeed :)

Why?? It doesn't work for most people... I have never ever been able to get it to work with my 8800 GTX and reading around it seems a lot of people have the problem.
The problem needs to be fixed by CCP...
Didnt work for me at first either, but you gotta turn off HDR ingame, then turn it back on, then switch the advanced setting "Interval" thingy to "interval default", then back at "interval immediate" if u want, THEN it will work.
It seems like eve needs to re-set some settings before it'll work. ------------------------- This post represents my entire corp's views and opinions. Not.. ;( |

Just tested it on Sisi, and it did work perfect, so it should also work on TQ then.

Well, I just wan't to point out that this doesn't prove that nHancer is the application at fault. This might as well have happened anyway. I mean electronics do fail. Might be something simple as bad ventilation in your box. Heat is often the sinner when it comes to electronics dieing.

I have an issue with Nhancer, and it may be my computer, or it may be one of my settings, or possibly it is just how it works...
I have Nhancer working fine most times and it looks great, much better than without, no jagged edges, but then sometimes, especially when I warp into a grid with many other players on it, or something when I jump systems, I lose the affect of Nhancer, I have tons of jagged edges again.
So what I must do it minimize Eve, and right click on the Nhancer icon and activate my "Eve Profile" manually and then tab back into Eve and it is fine again, until the next time it happens, and it happens enough to be a big pain in the ass.
Anyone know how to fix this issue?

A word for users using 8xx series cards (8800 GT etc)
I recently updated my graphics drivers to compensate for poor GTA IV performance. This had the effect of causing major CPU load when I was zoomed in on a ship. I later learned that the antialiasing I was using (Supersampling 32x) was no longer supported by Forceware 8xx drivers. Changing this to Coversage Sample 16x solved the issue (16xQ still gave some slowdown). I still think that the latest foreware drivers are a wee bit fuzzy with the AA, but I would recomend usings of 8 series cards look at knocking down the antialiasing if they ever get any strange heavy cpu load/lag.

Applications can't cause hardware failures unless there is an inherrant weakness in the hardware its being run on. The card failed while you were using Nhancer, likely becasue the AA/AF you used increased the load on it and caused a weakness to be exposed. It SHOULD work fine you just got a bad card. ---------------------------------

You're wrong there.. Badly written apps can cause hardware failures. Which is why most software that attempts to change what the hardware is supposed to do comes with a disclaimer.
e.g. You use software to increase the clock frequency of your gfx card.. card burns out! software caused the failure by overriding the default card settings. So was the gfx card to blame ? NOPE - software was.
Same when using N-Hancer - it forces the card to run at values that are not default. Whilst some of the settings are of use (usually due to bad game design), you use the software at your own risk.

Software can cause hardware failure, but only when you are trying to overvolt, overclock or modify bios, otherwise I call bull****. nhancer was not the fault of his video card to fail, it just pushed his card to the max and the card failed. The card would have died all the same if he ran heavy GPU stress tests or GPU intensive games with high AA-AS-HDR-Res settings.

Well, glad to see NUBS are abound every where. YES idiots, software CAN and DOES damage hardware. Especially when that software is DESIGNED to tweak the hardware functions. Stressing a card beyond its designed limits IS a software issue, not a hardware weakness. If they wanted the card to function in that way, the default tools would most likely allow it. But if the default tools do not allow a certain function, it is on YOUR ASS if it fails the hardware.

Actually he is right and you are the nubblet. Only software that is designed to tweak the hardware functions (Freq., Vcore, BIOS) can directly damage you hardware. And there is a huge warning on all of this applications that they can do that. If your card died running eve with nhancer it means it had a design flaw (insufficient cooling of memory modules is the no. 1 issue, core shutdowns when overheated, memories does not). Nhancer only modifies the settings of D3D and OpenGL rendering via game profiles, it has nothing to do with the hardware control.

Hi everyone - I'm new to EVE Online and of course I'd like it to look the best way possible. But I can't seem to get nHance do work. Am I doing anything wrong?
This is my hardware:
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
- 4.096 MB DDR2 RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280
These are my nHancer settings:
Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.
Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.
I choose Tool>Activate Profile>Eve Online and nothing happens to the graphics of the game... what am I doing wrong?
By the way, I'm using Windows Vista 64-bit, dunno if that's relevant but I've had issues with that before, so I thought I'd just mention it.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Untick the dx10 AA compatiblity and set the normal AA compat to 0xf0000045 as described in the start of this thread. It should work fine then.
Also trilinear optimalization is disabled when texture filtering is set to high quality. And you might want to disable v-sync since you aren not gonna get high frame rates anyway with 4x4 supersampling (3x3 will run pretty smooth though, so I recommend you set it to that if you run into perfomance issues) _

The dropdown menue of my nHancer (version 2.4.5) doesn't provide any "0xf0000045". I can only choose from the following options:
- 00000000: general compatibility
- 00000005: AA & HDR
- 00000018: HL2 engine (A)
- 00000044: AA & HDR
- 00000045: AA & HDR
- 00000145: AA & HDR
- 00000200: Splinter Cell 4
- 00000244: Vanguard
- 0000f0c1: STALKER
- 20000000: EA Strategy Games
- 200100c5: Oblivion
- 40000000: AA & HDR
- 40000018: HL2 Engine (B)
- 80000000: SplinterCell: CT
Since Laetaveinn said, he uses "AAComap: 45", I thought "00000045: AA & HDR" is the one to choose? And what about the CPU Multi Core support? When I switch it on, the "Not all settings in this profile can be activated automatically in Direct3D games. Use it for an OpenGL game only or activate it manually!" message appears. What should I do about that?

Don't activate the dual core option if it starts whining about it. It's not required CCP implements their own dual core support without the driver.
The 00000045: AA & HDR setting will work, but you used to get artifacts while cloaked with the old effect. You can manualy type in that drop down box as well and setting it to 0xf000045 worked in fixing the cloak artifacts. However, with the new cloaking effect I'm not sure this is required anymore... The 00000045: AA & HDR should work fine, but if you get any flashing white squares, change it to 0xf0000045 by typing it in that box manually to get rid of those. _

First, only supersampling works with the Apocrypha if i am not mistaken(2x2, 4x4), it does not work in a window, and don't enable the tempting features (Transparency AA, Gamma Correction etc)

I was having this same issue, and discovered that my nHancer settings for antialiasing are ignored unless I check the "HDR enabled" checkbox inside the EVE client itself.
I know it sounds implausible, but seriously, if I turn that on, then close the window, I get my jaggies back and my framerate, (ctrl-f) goes through the roof. If I bring that window back up, check the box, and close the window, my framerate comes back down to its expected place, and all my antialiasing is turned on again. Various adjustments to nHancer are suddenly reflected in the app as normal.
I have the bloom turned to 'low' but I don't think that's connected to the issue.
Anyway, when I discovered that, suddenly Crux Xybalba's settings above worked perfectly.
I did end up settling back on SS 2x2 instead of 4x4. 4x4 looks fabulous, but it causes my 8800gt's cooling fan to sound like it's trying to hold off certain video card meltdown. The only differences between my nHancer settings and yours Andrius Victor is that I have the 'enhance ingame...' and 'gamma correction super...' turned off.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I spent hours trying to figure this problem out. I had to revert back to the 186.18 nVidia GeForce 9 Series GTX (Vista 32 bit) driver to finally get this working. Here are the settings i used in nHancer.

by itself, it does nothing, but when activated with bloom effect, it makes the bloom less overpowering and blends it into the scene, giving it a creamy look.
Here is an example of a gallente gate. HDR-off Bloom-off HDR-off Bloom-on HDR-on Bloom-on See how the lights are static and clear without HDR. When I turn HDR on, it diffuses the light as if it was passed through a medium. Note: this is not the same thing as bloom. Bloom makes bright things brighter, while HDR makes the light bleed across non-illuminated areas

The 3rd picture seems to look better with both on it gives the stargate a more futureistic effect rather then making the stargate looking like a drain or an airvent ___

Has anyone gotten the new 190.62 Nvidia drivers to do AA in game? I have nHancer 2.5.3 Beta 2 version and it will not work with AA no matter what I try. I messed with the settings in Nvidia's CP, reset to default, uninstalled and re-installed the display drivers but the only way I can successfully get AA to work is by going back to the old 186.18 drivers. I eventually want to move up from that version....

using 2x 260gtx's in sli, i got aa to work by deleting eve.exe from the profile in nhancer 2.5.3 beta, and also disabling shadows inside of eve online, and having HDR enabled. used the following settings in nhancer:
AA: 8xS,Gamma AACompat: f0000045 AACompatDX10: f0000045 AF: 4x SLI Mode - Hex Value: 2400005 (will show 4-way AFR) Perf: HiQual NegLOD: Clamp MipMap:Tri CPU:MultiCore HDR:On
i'm cruisin along at about 200-250 fps in station, i haven't undocked yet, but no jagged edges in either full screen, or windowed mode at 1920x1200.

Remanent,
Could you tell me what executable you are using in nHancer after removing eve.exe? I think I removed that end left eve.exe to launch with and I'm not able to reset it. I re-installed the program but I'm still left with only eve.exe.
Thanks in advance!

Default nVidia profile for Eve renders random textures for multiple clients in windowed mode, while AA isn't enabled.
Quote:
* nVidia Control Panel doesn't contain all the settings you need nHancer. * Something has changed in how nVidia and nHancer do things, changes can't be seen in real-time, you need to restart Eve after each change. * It seems the nHancer manual profile selection is broken. * I use EveLauncher and it needs to be specified when not manually selecting the profile. * Oh and of course, the default profile loaded by nVidia is complete garbage.

Has there been a fix for multisampling in EVE yet? When apoc came out multisampling gave you nasty white blobs on asteroids etc, using supersampling atm which sucks as my fps is a lot lower than when using multisampling.
On another note, I'm using EVE in window mode. Two clients on two screens, but even though vsync is on in nhancer, and interval set to 1 in eve... I get tearing which looks ugly :(. Any help on that would be great!

YaSiS and Andrius Victor, downgrade to 186.18 to get FSAA in EVE. There are apparently some ways to get FSAA with 19X.X drivers, however the method does not seem to be reliable judging from posted experiences.
I'm getting good and reliable results with 186.18 (GTX260) and see no reason to upgrade to the newest drivers. ...

I'm getting allot of performance issues since Dominion.
Processor: Core i7 920 8MB Cache Socket 1366 3.8 GHZ Graphics Card 1: GeForce GTX 295 1792MB PCI Express 2.0 (zotac over-clocked)
GPU Clock 675 MHZ Memory Clock 2100 MHZ Shader Clock 1455 MHZ
Ram is not the best as I burned out 3 1600 sticks a few months ago. 8G 1100 MHZ DDR3
Latest gpu Driver
AA Multi x 4
When I start warp I get horrible lag, and my CPU usage shoots up, 3 FPS then the lag stops I get 300-400 until I land on the gate with effects on I get <40
With two clients I get even less than 40. turning HDR off improves the frame rate slightly but in a combat with 100 people the machine cant handle it, Same frame rate if I set everything to low.
Before Dominion I recorded the first fight (in the box) for this movie: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1203630
I was dual accounting and everything was running smooth, now I can't even start recording due to 3 fps when I hit FRAPS.
Full screen with 2 clients I get 30 Frame rate in fleet fighting with everything on , Windows mode in the same situation I get 10.

Ok...Ive got it too work...WITHOUT HDR!!! Im using an Nvidia GTX 260 SC However, i could not get better image quality while using HDR. Note that HDR does very little for image quality...and is not worth it compared to AA. My settings in Nhancer are:
AA: 32xS,TranspSS4 AF: 16x SLI: AFR [0x02400001] (predefined) Perf: HiQual
that simple. No compatibility mode at all. Just forcing AA Done

9. Save the file 10. Run the GeForce SLI Profile Tool as Administrator, if it is not already running 11. Click the button Import SLI Profiles and import the text file you previously saved. The info window on the tool should say SUCCESS 12. Close the tool and open your nVidia Control Panel 13. I still saw some jagged lines after enabling this, so I disabled it, and the difference was huge. If anyone is not sure if it's working or not, disable it and compare; you'll probably be surprised.

So for all of you who want anti-aliasing enabled in Eve Online, please follow these instructions: 1. Download the GeForce SLI Profile Tool given @ http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=169861 2. Run the tool as Administrator. 3. Click the button labelled Export SLI profiles and remember where you saved the file 4. Open the file in Notepad 5. When the file is open in Notepad, press CTRL + F to bring up the Find dialog box 6. Type eve online and hit Find Next 7. The file should immediately scroll to the Eve Online profile entry. It should look something like
Quote: Profile "Eve Online" ShowOn GeForce ProfileType Application Executable "eve.exe" Executable "exefile.exe" Setting ID_0x1033cec1 = 0x00000003 Setting ID_0x1033dcd2 = 0x00000002 Setting ID_0x1095def8 = 0x02400001 EndProfile
8. Copy and paste this string Setting ID_0x00d55f7d = 0xf0000045 as an entry on the line before EndProfile. It should now look like this:
Quote: Profile "Eve Online" ShowOn GeForce ProfileType Application Executable "eve.exe" Executable "exefile.exe" Setting ID_0x1033cec1 = 0x00000003 Setting ID_0x1033dcd2 = 0x00000002 Setting ID_0x1095def8 = 0x02400001 Setting ID_0x00d55f7d = 0xf0000045 EndProfile
Navigate to Manage 3D Settings, click on the Program Settings tab and select Eve Online as the program to customise 14. Set the Antialiasing Mode to Override application settings, and then set the other anti-aliasing options as desired 15. Apply the changes
And you're done. :) Anti-aliasing will now be applied ingame as you set it to in the nVidia control panel.
Thanks for reading and hope that helps/helped. :)
Worked great for 260.99. Thank you very much!
Does anyone know if AAF works in EVE and how much of a difference does it make? ...

An easier method would be to use nvidiaInspector, works from the start.
