It didn't even start after a particular crash for me. I just tried to get on via my desktop which can run the premium graphics package (thought I'd treat myself today). Crashed under the same circumstances: Trinity screen pops up, eve crashes after trying to load log-in screen. _trinity.dll again and again.
I've played EVE since 03', I can't remember EVER complaining about a technical bug before, I just waited patiently for a patch.
However, this case CCP, is ridiculous. It's quite obvious you have a problem, and your content to just sit on your hands, keeping the customers in the dark.
A simple, "We're working on it, we think its an issue with [ ], and we are trying to do up a hot-fix to accommodate those people who's accounts have encountered this issue" would have kept me happy enough for the time being.
It sounds to me like you have more than enough data to troubleshoot this, and I'll be damned if I'm going to be stuck troubleshooting your code.
No matter how much I enjoy your game.
I didn't complain when the per-month went up to 14.95 either. I didn't leave, and I stood by you. I was there through the growing pains, back when I brought harvester drones low, sold high, made my small fortune.
I log into my laptop, 32,107 users online.
Time for growing pains is over, time to grow up is now CCP.

Originally by: OrangasaurusRex I am in a similar situation. Recently, I started getting strange performance errors. Every 6 seconds my screen would lock for 2 seconds and all sound would cut out(including winamp). I was monitoring my cpu usage and it was as follows. For 6 seconds Eve would use 100% of my cpu and then fall to 0% for 2 seconds, and then jump back into 100%. No other process was using my cpu (virus scanned/adware/spybot found nothing). I then started getting crashes associated with _trinity.dll. After a particulary hard crash jumping to a station I can no longer open eve. The trinity screen pops up and eve crashs after trying to load the fullscreen menu(_trinity.dll).
Did anyone else notice cyclical stutters like this and/or is unable to start at all?
Try this program while you are running EVE, both of these are decent monitoring tools that can assist you. I have noticed that my 680i chipset does that exact same sound crash you are talking about. It is a PCI bus latency issue and won't be fixed by NVidia. But I have found that my chipset works correctly when it is very cool, or at least cooler then it was. If my PC case cover was on, it would lag my PCI bus out every time. Now I just leave the side panel off, no issues.
Process Explorer
Latency Checking Tool
I am glad this issue is so important to CCP that they do not even have time to respond to use on the issue they are working so hard. In fact they are working so hard that all the bugs will be fixed in a reasonable amount of time and all parties will be reimbursed for their troubles.
Ooh wait, that was the ***** talking, CCP would never do something like that. lol blue.dll Error CCP FIX IT ALREADY! |

"OK, we are looking into this."
As for the rest of your 'request' they can't tell you that until they know and have completed the fix.
Quote: It sounds to me like you have more than enough data to troubleshoot this, and I'll be damned if I'm going to be stuck troubleshooting your code. No matter how much I enjoy your game.
No programmer can just magically find and fix a bug like this. The only time they can give you the answer you want is when they have found the problem and developed a fix. It's pretty obvious that you aren't a programmer and you have no idea how much information they have recieved nor how much use it is. Those of us that have only posted the event log have done very little to help. It will allow them to tick-off our bug by comparing addresses when they finally track down a problem but won't directly help them find that problem.
Hopefully those using the log-server will be providing something more concrete but few people seem to be doing that (I didn't, but then I only get one or two crashes a month).
You need to calm down and be patient and try to understand the enormity of the task. There is nothing to be gained by CCP's developers giving you a minute by minute report of what they are doing (in fact it just distracts them and makes it harder). There's certainly nothing to be gained by going off on a rant like a spoilt little brat.
Provide them with more information. Be patient. Be polite. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

I figured I was polite, I mean, i could have called them a bunch of friggin idiots for constantly crapping on their player-base by by keeping us in the dark all day. But I didn't.
But I will call you a suck-up piece of crap who thinks he's it because he throws out terms like "the log server" or "tick off our bug by comparing addresses".
When did I ask for minute by minute updates? I just want CCP to make me feel like there is SOME progress on the issue, not "we need to run to Microsoft for extra support on this one cuz we have no friggin idea whats going on". Yeah, thats what your golden linked-post breaks down to there fella.
your nothing but a CCP carebear troll looking to defend them at every turn.

I've been having this problem since the patch in mid November. Still have it. Played for months before that with no problems. Last week I lost over 200 mill in ship and mods because the game froze up for a couple minutes in the middle of a battle. I tried to warp out when my ARMOR was about 20-25%, the game didn't respond. I sat there totally unable to move or fight back while rat pummeled my ship. After a minute or two it finally crashed completely. When I logged back on I was in a pod. CCP's response? Because their precious logs show I lost my ship at 23:08 and logged off normally at 23:48 it occurred during "normal game play". They're logs apparently don't document crashes or when you log on right afterward. I have two accounts and I'm VERY close to closing both.

Have you guys tried running a ram memory tester? The addresses of the errors are located in ram memory slots. It could be a faulty chip or sector that's causing the errors. It seems that ram is getting flaky lately. I had a co-worker that built his new office PC and 2 of the 4 sticks were bad, sent them back and the next 2 were bad as well. It was name brand sticks too, go figure...just something you might try to see if it finds anything.

I am getting the same thing. Never had this problem before until i upgraded my PC.
My old configuration was: AMD FX-55 2GB Corsair RAM Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard BFG 8800 GT OC2 Win XP Sp2
Upgraded to: Core 2 Duo E6850 4GB OCZ RAM Asus P5N32-E SLI plus motherboard BFG 8800 GT OC2 Win XP Sp2
And now i am plagued with this issue. It's definitely not the video card, as it hasn't changed between the configurations.
Also, as someone noted, it tends to happens when you pan the camera
The error message in the event viewer is:
Quote: Faulting application exefile.exe, version 4.10.0.44942, faulting module blue.dll, version 4.10.0.44942, fault address 0x000534a6.
The event viewer also has this straight afterwards:
Quote: The application, D:\_Games\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 02/16/2008 @ 20:27:02.937 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 100534A6 (blue!PyTasklet_Call)

I'm a new player in EVE: Though I'm still on free trial, I'd love to go on with the game and become a real player. But getting the BSOD every 2-3 hours is far from encouraging me. I'm sure it's somehow not good for my computer and I can't decently play a game that keeps making me lose my unsaved datas all the time - plus kicking me out of EvE in the middle of the action. Does anyone know if the situation has evolved recently? I'm using premium pack and have a top configuration, with up-to-date drivers. Haven't been able to screen the blue windows error yet, but I guess it's similar to you guys'. Thanks in advance, An enthousiastic newbie.

I'm new to the game, downloaded it last night, and I must say it is an INCREDIBLE disappointment to play for less than three minutes and have a blue.dll related crash EVERY single time I boot up the program.
I REALLY want to play this game, but I'm unable to do so. Good thing I'm on a trial subscription, I can't imagine paying for something that doesn't work. |

If you have a Geforce 8 series card, turn off anti-aliasing. Make sure it's off in the application override settings, in display settings.
I had the stargate crash bug with the new graphics engine.. turning off anti-aliasing fixed it.

yup it started on my 2 pcs again today. kind of sucks, thought they fixed it but guess it was wishful thinking. should of known better.....
so after they tell us it is our fault, MSs fault, the drivers that haven't changed in a month (so how can be the problem it only happen after CCP pushed a patch) and least we forget it must be our indivual ISP...CCP will fix it. PROMISES MADE > PROMISES KEPT SO SAY WE ALL

Geforce 5950 Ultra here.
Time to start thinking about updating that card buddy, it's not gonna work too much longer w/ Eve w/o crashing non-stop. I can't keep the game running for more than a few seconds to a minute now w/o it powering down the entire system. This was an issue that was fixed in RMR, then with the 2nd patch of Trinity, it's back.
I'm not gonna turn this into another CCP-doesn't-give-a-**** rant. Not worth the effort anymore. Just hang tight and maybe in a few months, a few patches later, it may fix itself accidentally like it has before.
Oh and yeah, I tried turning off my 'sound' lol.

Last time this happened to me, I tracked it down to mouse drivers, I kid you not.
Best thing to do is open the task-manager, arrange on CPU usage and see what zips to the top. The 'stuttering' you're seeing is contention for CPU time from something else on your system.

Edited by: Mortaarn on 28/02/2008 12:21:38 Edited by: Mortaarn on 28/02/2008 12:19:25 Just thought i'd mention that i'm getting "_trinity.dll" and "blue.dll" crashes at stations and gates too. It's only started happening since 1.0.2/1.0.3 for me. Before that i never had a single crash (mind you i've only been playing 1 1/2 months though).
I turned off premium content and now the crashes are gone and i play for hours and hours. Anyone having crashes might want to try turning off premium content until CCP have a fix. It may not look as nice, but at least you can play the game!
I haven't posted a bug report yet, but here's my computer's specifications if they're of any use to track down similarities between crashing systems:
Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 4GB DDR800 RAM Geforce 8800 GTS 320MB w/ 169.25 WHQL drivers Onboard Realtek ALC888 HD audio w/ v1.87 WHQL drivers nForce 590 motherboard chipset SATA HDD
Did i miss anything?
