As forum correspondent,for EVETV I am in charge of selecting questions to ask the wise and distinguished commentators of the matches, and asking the questions newer players are afraid to ask.
Please feel free to ask whatever your heart desires- maybe get creative? Maybe you just need someone to talk to..either way if you have any questions, comments or poems for the EVETV Tourney Commentators or for me to answer live on air, please feel free to post them here.
They can be about game mechanics, tournament commentary lingo or pretty much everything.. but to answer you quickly Calmdown and Stavros are not a couple.

Right, just gonna say now, I hope to see LOTS of marauders...although I highly doubt it.
1: If there are a few marauders, do you think they tank and deal out enough damage for their points worth?
2: If there aren't any marauders, do you think it would be more interesting to see marauders being used, as they in theory, could be well trained for by now and capable of huge tanks/dps if set up correctly?
(yes, semi-contradictory, but meh...lol)

How do you expect the recent trinity expansion to effect the tactics the team may use in this tournement as opposed to last year's one, i.e. ships / game changes such as the dampener nerf and scripts. And how many ships introduced from the trinity expansion to you expect to see?

Q: How comitted to the continued development of the tournaments are CCP? With all the flak that tournament organisers receive, will they just throw their hands up and say "screw you guys", or are they determined to keeping this project running for years to come.

Q1: Ship desgin/mechanics
Why haven't the other pirate faction ships recieved a buff like sansha has? The Cynabal (Angels Cartel faction ship) was neglected back when its sister ship the rupture got a +125 powergrid boost: Essentially, this makes the Rupture a better ship than its faction counterpart due to better fitting, bigger dronebay/bandwith size and better damage.

Q:
For this tournament we've lost pirate implants. Faction/officer/deadspace/cosmos mods are not allowed, neither are rigs and drugs. What does the panel think about these rules?
Without rigs and faction mods we might see less and less of the regular pvp setups (disregarding the loss of cloaking/scrambling/bubbling mods/ships, most pvp BS will be rigged, nano ships usually do rigs and often faction etc), is this a good thing for the tournament?

Also do you think there will be named drones used?

- If so, what would you see as a better price for the tourney.

I think they worry about overtanking/speeding making the fights boring (main reason pirate implants and rigs are disallowed as well afaik) tbh i think it would add an interesting element to the fights with the possibility of side effects ruining a strategy and ppl having to work round it. The other factor is of course that they are out of reach of some alliances in the tourney if they work from hi sec (synth booster not allowed either tho).

For starters because watching a bunch of Nanos chase after each other for 15 minutes at a time would be plain boring. (Even just having one side in nothing but fast Nano ships is boring, see first fight of the day.)
Also, it gives everyone as level of a playing field as you're going to get. Instead of having the winner of the tournament be defined simply by how much ISK you can throw into it, it keeps it about setups, personal skills, and creativity. Anyone, not just the 10 largest Alliances who have massive billions to spend on all the fancy stuff, can join with a chance to win as long as they can work together and figure out setups that complement each other.

I am still very curious to know why rigs aren't allowed? They are a huge part of pvp and wouldn't extend a fight too long. They are also inexpensive. So if you could elaborate on why rigs aren't allowed, that would be great.

Forgive my newbish grasp of PvP but why are the Logistic ships being ignored? I have seen a few matches where the Logistics ship seemed to be holding everything together yet the opposing team focused on other ships (MC then UCAM come to mind). All fine and well to want to drop the ECM ships first but if you cannot do that because of the Logistics then seems the Logistics should be primaried.

welcome to years ago. ECM boats are still awesome if you don't agree then you wouldn't go far in the tournyment.

Well i was jammed for the first cycle in our fight, however we went into todays fight expecting to be jammed so we based our set up around not being jammed. or atleast giving us the best chance agaisnt it.

How about adding a small penalty point for each ship of the same type. Say +1 point for every bomber after the first? This will essencially nullyfy the 8 manticore 2 basilisk setup and make for more variation.

I actually had 2 questions:
1. Given the dominance of the Guardians so far in the tournament, do you think there will be changes in future tournaments as far as the points that they take or even changes to the ship itself and do you feel changes like this are needed?
2. Regarding the Time Zone issues, such as it being 10am in US right now, and during the week being difficult for some people to get off work, what are peoples opinions of maybe having instead of alliance tournament, maybe at some point having different teams from different counties...maybe run national qualifiers, and then at the end you can have the different counties fight.

Has the idea of instead of a set point structure for the ships, what if you made the tournament just a straight 5 vs 5 or 10 vs 10 no capital ships, or do you think you would end up with too many BS remote repping fleets and the fights just never going anywhere?

As I haven't been able to catch all of the broadcasts yet, has anyone been found violating the rules? If no, are you guys surprised that nobody has used a ship with rigs, or accidentally hopped in the wrong JC?
What happens to the phat lewts and salvage after the matches? Do the Jovians steal it for use in their sex toy production?

a couple of people have moved before the match start and had a penalty to their points total applied. somebody lost a totalhelldeath because of that (i think IAC), and somebody lost their only points because of it. killed one ship +3 points, moved before start -10 points. :(

with regards to logsitics, is increasing the points on those ships the only reliable way to stop people from fielding a team with two of them?

been watching tourney and learning alot about pvp as a new character and noticed that no-one seems to use bombs. I have only just come across them really and they seem to be a very powerful weapon especially as all teams seem to be very tightly grouped for transfers.
Are bombs just too expensive or inappropriate?

Just thought I'd drop a line to you with regards to the commentry on the fight between Axa Nation and Fouth District during which it was stated that the collective term for more than one Cerberus is indeed Cerberi. I thought I'd point out that the word Cerberus originates from Greek mythology; Cerberus of course being the Hellhound of Hades. This being the case, the plural of the word is in fact Cerberus' as the word is a noun of Green not Latin origin.

Stevie, can you poke the commentators and tell 'em that one of the two basilisks was almost into armor when they got /heal zeroed? And that it looked like the drake wasn't running any missiles and appeared to be using strictly neutralizers and smartbombs, along with a microwarpdrive.
It looked like the drake went in and killed the cap of one of the basilisks, allowing them to put the hurt on the other.

Just something about the Phantasms, Im CEO of a small high Sec Mission running corp, mainly 4s, I use a Raven Navy issue, another member uses a Hpy and my best member uses a Phantasm, I think there a Great awsome Ship, If fitted, and the pilot is skilled right, the phantasm can Tank 4's, and hell, i'v seen it happen. but hay? It is Caldari online after all

the alience torny hasent been as good as last year 2 gardians is just crazy shouldent be allowed but have been a couple of good fights but the double gardian set up seems like everyone is adopting it. will we see a change on the 6th torny and what is that cat about on the table i was hoping that little girl was going to rip its head off doh!!

This could be a question for both the commentators and the Spiral crew.
Why not in future, allow alliances have 3 or 4 reserves ship on stand by. I mean the ships and pilots would have to be present like all teams 30 minutes before a match. So they can change their set up (One time only) before the match starts? Wouldn't this allow for more variation in the future and maybe help stop some of the boring matches? That way you can have last minute tweaks to a setup based on what the other team fields. Kind of like most sports games where the coach swaps out players.

I realise it may be a bit late for this tournament...but what are the chances of getting multiple selectable feeds back for the next tourney?
I can watch the matches at work but my computer at home just gives me the middle finger when I try to watch it there.
Maybe multiple feeds with different formats?
Also, got any chicken soup? I'm sick as a dog.

In the broadcast, is it possible that the drones be designated by red/blue "Xs" as opposed to colored in boxes? That way the ships can be easily distinguished. As it is, I just see a confusion of red/blue blobs.
Appreciate the excellent camera work so far!

Hey, how about drone trajectory and some NFL drawing on screen to illustrate the commentators points? Maybe use a few tournament backlogs to practise on before implementing...

As we are about to kick off Day 4 of the BIG NUMBER 5, I had a few comments and questions I wanted to ask you and the esteemed EVETV commentators.
First, I've noticed you guys taking a lot of flack on the forums this past week, and I would just like to say those peeps need to get pod ganked every two seconds. You guys are the best and though I know you don't need it, I want you all to know that you have my support, respect, and sexy love.
Ok here's to my questions, I have a few...
1. With the conclusion of AT5, will EVE TV be back and better than ever with regular coverage? I have to tell you, I've been going through withdrawls since the end of season 1. What does Spiral and all the other guys think about comming back?
2. In relation to the first question, the First Councel of Stellar Management begins on May 5, will EVE TV be there to bring us all the latest? Will Spiral have plenty of wity banter to humiliate the councel with?
3. The first three days of AT5 saw a lot of loooong drawn out fights and a few awesome fights. Most notibily was Notoriety Alliance and their awesome innovative faction setups. My question for you and all the guys are, can anyone beat them? They completely mowed through SyncrOnicity's dual logistics fielding.
4. Specifically for Eds, with KIA's two victories being some close calls and nail biters, do they stand a chance against Notoriety's innovation when we get to bracket play?

Hey, just curious after watchin this Hydra vs. Notoriety, whats the policy on scooping incapacitated drones of other people? Seems if there was some damage drones layin around the last sentinel coulda picked the dps back up.

To StevieSG:
In the 4th tournament remote sensor dampers were massively abused, with many teams deploying them on practically every ship on thier team because they were such a powerful mod with no downside. The Dev's afterwards nerfed dampers and now you dont see nearly as many used in this tournament.
In even earlier tournaments NOS was massively abused in the same way for the same reasons. The Dev's afterwards nerfed NOS and now you dont see nearly as many used in this tournament.
Since fully nano'd teams don't make sense in a tournament fought within a confined space where warping in and out of combat is not allowed, what mod (if any) do the experts think is being overused in this tournament and is pointing to a possible nerf in the future by the Dev's?

could be a (slightly ****y) tactic for a gallente team, with a couple of larger ships spitting out drones with the intiesor whatever grabbing and using dropped drones when theirs die, whilst orbiting at speed out of range. no idea if it'd work tho.

You have mentioned "Spider Tanking" a few times throughout the tournament, but i can't figure out what it means :(
My best guess would be repping drones, cause the repped ship might look like a spider because of the "legs" created by the droneswarm :P

Spider tanking is when you fit at least one remote armor repairer on to each of your ships and usually no normal armor repairer. You can then put the tanking power of all your ships onto whichever ship is called primary.

I keep seeing the same dual logi setup, which is fine. My question is, why does the opposing team NOT go for one of the logi ships first? If you attack one of the other ships you have to beat the remote repping from 2 logi ships. It seems to me that focusing on one of the logi's immediately would allow you to attack a ship with essentially half as much tank. Then you can focus on the other ships, saving the second logi for last.

We were, but the remaining drones were in web range of those Thorax and we couldn't let Hydra THD us.

Fair enough for combat ships but I assume even Goons need to haul things sometimes. Are they suggesting someone zipping some BPOs from one place to another must do so stabless?

It has been said repeatedly that these matches are about points and secondly about actually "winning" the match.
So why so many turtle tanks and not as much gank? To get the dual logistics out there does not seem to be much left for heavy gank.
Seems playing to not lose rather than play to win.
EDIT: This seems particularly important when a team is low on points in the later matches and could really use a THD.

My assumption for this would be that if people are going to field BS, they're going to field mainly high dps, armor tanked ones. Which leaves you with the Typhoon which we haven't actually seen at all in the tourney yet have we?

So ...
It seems pretty obvious that you need either cap warfare (curse) or ECM (rook) to break a dual logistics setup. In the last two matches the side without these lost. It may take some time to either drain the cap or get 2 jams in a row but the side with those ships can win. The side that leaves those ships out simply won't have a chance unless the other side makes a mistake.
Are there other techniques that could be used to break the dual setup? Could multiple sensor damps be used to suppress the targeting range of the logistics ships? Are logistics ships usually fitted with ECCM? Can you think of other tactics that will break the dual setups?

Quick question -
With 2 curse and 2 guardians vs. a stealth bomber set up why would you choose to alpha a curse? (Both the commentator and the players chose the curse and it doesn't seem to make much sense). It would seem to me that a guardian would have to be top choice since if it goes down then the armor tank on the curses and every other ship is much weaker.

To commentators ...
What do you think would be the more efficient solution to make people think harder about multiple logistic teams...
A) Logistic's get a base point raise.
B) If you field 2 or more of the same type of ship you get penalised? (eg. 2x 21 point ships would have a 2 point penalisation added making them cost 44... 3 ships having 3 points etc.)

I would like to hear the experts debate the Caldari HAC: Eagle. With its HAC resistances and ability to snipe from long distances, I would think that this would be a popular ship.
Perhaps a nice build could be a few Eagles, a Rook for long distance jaming with some logistics thrown in for good measure.
StevieSG please ask the experts to discuss the pro's and con's of a set up like this and why they think we havent scene the Eagle much at all.

You said that it's totally fair for cov op pilots to sit around and lock down a system. Thats fair, no where in eve should be safe (especially 0.0) The problem people have is that nowhere in eve should be safe. Cloaked you are unfindable and therefore invulnerable. Why should that be fair?
I feel cloaks are overpowered. I'm all for special forces ****ing you up, but there needs to be a counter, and it's almost impossible to counter a recon cruiser. I don't think they should be nerfed, but some sort of chance to find them and force a fight would be nice.
Oh yeah, please tell stavros his make up tips rock, but now my bum is hurty after 10 tequilas and a hairy biker called derek. Does he know where I can get some preperation H?

Question: Why does the "goon expert" knock domis and not the pilots that shouldn't be flying them. Most Domis fielded didn't have Sentry IIs which is a massive ammount of damage and Ogre IIs.

Question to the panel or GM Nova:
When a player disconnects before the fight starts, why can't you wait 30 seconds more for him to reconnect. It isn't a pilot error so there is nothing a crashed pilot can do except reconnect as fast as the client allows.

as my Guess is that
Caldari= japanese, north amerika , german and nordic.

First, props to the lovliest lady on Eve-TV. This question is directed to any of the commentators, What changes or limitations can we expect to see in future tournies to encourage varrying setups? Possibly limiting the total number of any one ship type per team without limiting the versatility too much.
Watching the capabilities of twin logistics ships,or a fleet of stealth bombers was entertaining the first time or two, but I for one would like to see a bit less predictability.
Finally I just wanted to say to all of the alliances involved, we've enjoyed watching you guys put on a helluva good show, best of luck to all. |

1. The Experts are always praising the 5 HACS 5 Frig setups, using the Deimos, Ishtars and Cerbs.
However, we dont see 5 Zealots used, if this setup was used , how effective do they think it would be ?

A guardians big resist hole is thermal. You can tank it up a bit, but thermal is generally the weak spot. Last I checked, lasers did EM and thermal!

Yes true, however most pilots in the tourney wil hopefully have Laser Specilization with Heavy Assault Ships giving the Zealot 5% damage bonus per level (hopefully at level 5 lol) with Tech 2 laser spec at lvl 5 the Zealot Packs a punch, yes true it may not work against duel logistics, however it maybe interesting to see.

Twas tournament morning, last day in fact,
and Comrade Fox had barely made impact.
While evryone watchin, eyes monitor glued,
to yesterdays tourney, today's not ensued.
All were docked up and dreaming of bread,
while nightmares of concordokken'd raced through thier head.
When out from 0.0 there arose such a comotion,
some warcraft noob said "WTF, where's my potion?"
They looked in thier overview and what should apear?
That damned Comrade Fox and 60 cases of beer!
With boosters in toe and armor a'bleedin,
some nice squishey Sanchas was what he was needin.
So dock up in Zero, and jerk more than humble,
to the clone vats did that muther Thukker stumble.
He clonejumped to empire and from there, providence,
ran through the back yard and hopped the front fence.
Just then he did notice to my god-awfull suprise,
that drunk Thukker stumble into 80 watchfull eyes.
Not friendly, not hotiles they waited to see,
but he wasn't movin', and he had to pee!
They hailed him and teased him, his mother they taunted,
so he had decided twas speed to be flaunted.
He clicked to allingn, and injected X boosters,
and speed through that gate camp and crowed like a rooster.
"You didn't catch me this time you schlups
Boosters for all and STFU!"

I have a ship fitting question for next time you have a suitable member on the panel.
Why are Ship Rigs not varied in effect and price, to make them viable mods for smaller ships and become more expensive in relation to a hull's size.
Unless you are an EVE isk billionaire you wouldn't contemplate fitting rigs to anything smaller than a Battlecruiser, with possible exception of interceptors.

Popazzard, you don't have to be a genius to answer that. It's to give YOU something to work for. Rigs are customizations. If you have a rigged out ship, it is yours. If you sell it, you have to contract it...or loose the rigs. Rigs aren't fittings, they are meant to be permanent, akin to the custom mods on the millennium Falcon. It's no ordinary YT-1300 (it goes faster and has Dish TV, expanded cargo and bigger guns.) No, you shouldn't be putting rigs on noob-frigates, but if you do, it's allot like piloting a titan, you've got to be stupid or have REALLY big balls.

personally (and i really am terrible at fitting ships so this could be nonsence!) i'd omni tank, with the thermal hole plugged which would punt the em/thermal resists up without too much hassle.
edit. actually, following some ninja-EFTing the guardians themselves are still freakishly weak to EM, but i meant a high em resist on armour in general. this is probably why people ask the experts, rather than me!

Not sure if this has been raised as of yet.
Black ops battle ships have yet to be used.
The widow has very good ew ability.
The Redeemer tracking bonus would nail small and medium ships very quickly.
Are the teams just affraid to use high dollar T2 bs or is it a lack of waith in the new ship type.

while i find most of your commentary truely informed, i must say the answer to the latest question about low sec to be clueless.
The response about risk versus reward and the statement "suicide ganking is good", "forces carebears into low sec", seems uninformed, and slightly biased.
Who is really the carebear? the player doing his industry/invention? or the player sitting completely safe waiting to Gank? lets face it, they dont loose anythign by ganking as long as they get there insurance payout. the so called carebear looses everything they have worked for, invennted and they get nothing replaced.
So i ask again, Who is the real carebear?

What would you Think of a new ship class between Battleships and capital ships focused on supporting capital ship warefare?
I.e. specific capital ship electronic warefare support etc.. and/or speacialized anti dreadnought ships. (interceptors of the capital ship world, max speeds of 1km/s) Do you think these would spread out capital ship battles and stop the blob.

Eve has an ability to bring people from RL countries together, to work in their virtual government (alliance/corp). Adding a tournament that uses RL boundries is a bad idea and against the idea of the Eve community having a disconnect from the real world.
If anything, make an Eve Faction tournament. Leave the real world out of it, most of us are here to escape the real world, not be reminded of it.
