The only thing I am annoyed about over this announcement is the lack of information!
Such as When? On we have established it will be around first week of December (possibly - knowing software companys)
What? We have been informed of 1 real change...
I was lead to believe this was ready for download already according to the announcments!
Other than that... I love this game... But as others have said if major changes don't take place they are in danger of loosing more of thier player base. Hell, this game beats the X series only because of the online side of it...
Nuff said.

Edited by: Gombar on 18/10/2008 12:32:49 Guess I have to switch sides. While I am basicaly very pro for a speed patch, making pvp battles a little more colorful, playing around on sissi made me anything but waiting for this patch, since it a pain for mission runners. The raven has a ~25% slower base speed, but mission gates are as far away as always and the rats are fast as ever. So the already boring flying from one gate to the next got 20% worse plus you run into problems when relying on outrunning rats long enought to shoot down enough. So this means that you need an afterburner, but that leaves you undertanked for some missions. Was there really no other option for BS than to make the already slow ships even slower? If anybody thinks this is entertaining, I would like to know his other hobbies.

Sure, Its small for an expansion.. But its still free just like every other expansion CCP has made for eve.
Your getting something for free and your whinging about it? Honestly... Grow up!
And there are some big content Expansions due to be released soon, and the last two have been huge (A big graphics improvement, a new region and a whole new way to have some easy fleet PVP)
Plus ambulation is coming up soon, and thats a whole lot of work.. Even if you don't like Ambulation you have to admit that is pretty big.
Personally, I do think a few bug fixes would be nice, but any reduction to lag is my friend...
Give CCP some time, even if its a small expansion its an expansion never-the-less.
I am sick and tired of ppl even considering that an MMO expansion should be anything else but free. Clearly they don't have a clue about the MMO genre.
So just to clarify it MMO expansions ARE free 90% of the cases, and dont quote me a WOW expansion, cause there have been many free upgrades to that game in the form of patches already and its not like they charged customers an additional box after a year or so. It took them what? 3 years?
Also since just like 5 years ago it was unimaginable that ppl should have to pay more than the high street box cost (e.x. 50$) to play a game. Now in just 2 months time on an MMO you are over that and you are running deep into 3-digit overall cost to play a game. MMO expansions SHOULD and HAVE to be free. PERIOD. Good thing that the MMO industry recognizes that and adheres to that too.
Having said that CCP has a good policy on that, the fact that since launch they haven't charged customers a single expansion, even the trinity graphics upgrade is a good thing. However their gametime more expensive than some other MMO's too.

why is the orca a cap ship still. that means there will still likely be a 500m isk book barrier to entry or 1bil barrier like the rorq. if the mini-frieghters have the same issue they will have missed the mark too.

Originally by: Xeronn it is WAAAY above my understanding why some people are sooo eager to suck up to CCP even when CCP is obviously shiting around on the playerbase any chanche they get
a lot of people ask "why so much whining, why just not leave?"
Because CCP (used to?) have a very loyal playerbase that cares about the game and isnt going to walk out on the first sign of trouble or when the first world of whatever comes along, so yea some whine and moan and ***** about what they percieve as damage to the game insteat of jumping the bandwagon . Some may EVEn call it loyalty? You know , like real loyalty to a product , not blindly sucking up to the producers
But then again I guess from a business point of view, this is not the ideal customer/playerbase , so CCP is obviously aiming at the playerbase more used to migrating from "world" to "world" as soon as something shiny comes along.
So forget "nerfs" and "additions" , how in HER holly name can you not see the total disaster that is CCP`s PR lately??
Seriously....people who sit on forums all day writing this mindless dribble must have a hole in their head or an overinflated sense of self-importance. Seriously, what in the world makes people think that they deserve so much from a company. It is strange to me how so many people jump on this "the company owes me" attitude bandwagon. To me CCP seems to be doing a good job all in all. Who gives a crap about the speed nerf? Adapt and learn to deal with the problem and use your tools the way they are intended instead of the way you think they should be used. Do you eat spaghetti with a spoon?
What about other companies that you pay for a monthly service? Take an ISP...you pay them for your connection to the internet. You may have really fast broadband, or slow...or lord forbid...dial up. Now, do you blame the lag you get in the game on your ISP? I would venture to say that most do not even consider this. Most are content to blame CCP even when it isn't warranted. Do you call them up and tell them that you think your line should be faster? Do you tell them that because yoru a paying customer they should be obligated to increase the line speed of your internet without charging you more money? Do you threaten them every time there is an outage in your area? If you do then your just downright stupid....they will tell you flat out that you will have to wait on the service to come back on and that no you will not be given a price reduction on your bill for the 24 hour wait...or that there are no known plans to increase line speed...or you will have to pay 20 more dollars a month to increase yoru line speed....etc. etc..
Why do people consider an MMO company to be our servants? Why do we think we have any right to play the game? Why is it that people think the company owes them anything? If anything you owe the company...plain and simple. You owe them a monthly fee for accessing their servers and taking up their bandwidth that they have to pay for. If you do not agree with their policies you have the option to do the exact same kind of protest you do with the ISP....find another service. Ultimately....this is ALL that you can do to stick it to the company that you feel "wronged" you by nerfing your favorite gay ass mechanic...Honestly people...shut the hell up and stop whining like little babies because you have to take more time to do something in a game that is nothing more than a time sink anyway.

Not true, the skillbook for a Freighter is 75m and they are bigger than the Orca.

ok i know about the speed nerf. I agree with it but not the way it is done.
My way would be to make it simple and give every ship a max speed. However you can go above this but then your hull and armor will slowly get damabged from your ship breaking apart. This ofcourse could open up new skills to slow this down or new fits the slow this down as well. But it should be something that can't be totaly negated.
now i have no idea bout missles. can some one explain the nerf or send me a link to the dev blog or the like?

Edited by: Una D on 18/10/2008 23:32:24 I guess it's one more expansion with no addition of viable rigged ship transport for high sec (or any way to transport them other than flying one at the time). This can't be that difficult to get large (make it take only assembled ships) as all assembled capitals are ZOMG huge.
There is plenty of time to December to add it CCP. That and queue would help with the mess up about ghost training (at least for those of us thinking about staying).

Hey we all know Eve far outclasses any other MMO as far as the ability to actually affect the game we play, unlike the others, bc of that reason alone just take all the new crap they throw out. Different things appeal to different players. I personally am looking fwd to an industrial type change, Im not just an industrialist, but they need love too. Sure there are always things to whine/"constructively critisize" about, but no need to get all huffy some of you, if you have something useful to say, say it, but no pure Wahhh posts sheesh.
I also thin they released this exp info to divert a little, but any PR Dept worth its weight in salt will attempt, "Damage Control", gimme a break. Im sure there is more nice stuff coming, but you know they had to announce something to give people to chew on.
Also Ambulation I would like to be as worked out as much as possible, so if a mixed bag of Fixes/Industry/Marketing content is up, then great, a Speed fix was need anyway, basing combat on such a limited number of things with so much that is available and should be used is boring, w speed nerfed hopefully it will make things more interesting and make people think a little.
I love EVE and continue to play. I have benefited from ghost tr but dont have a prob w it, if it hurts CCP financially by doing it, thats their fault, just play the game, you know, by actually playing it.

CCP has been totally silent on when Ambulation is coming and has neither confirmed nor denied whether it is included in Quantum Rise. One would assume that such a huge feature would be mentioned in the announcement of Quantum Rise, but on the other hand, they seem to be aiming to hype up Ambulation at the Fanfest and saving any announcement for therein.
Perhaps it is unlikely, but I am hoping for a surprise announcement at the Fanfest that Quantum Rise includes Ambulation.

In addition to storefronts, is anything in the works to make it easier to post "buy orders" for corp members only and to transfer raw materials between divisions? The purpose being the corp wants to buy various raw materials on a fixed budget, but only from corp members to provide a constant demand (although maybe below market price) which will benefit both the members and the corp itself. For example, the corp manufacturing division posts buy orders for minerals so the miners can fill them or the invention division posts buy orders for datacores, etc. The contract system currently sucks for this purpose.

Actually a ship twice the size would have a volume of eight times the original. If we make the assumption that volume and mass are proportional then you'd be needing and engine 8 times as powerful to maintain the same speed.
That said in REAL space there is very little resistance and the thrust to mass ratio would impact acceleration. Velocity would continue to increase until there was enough resistance to counter the effect of the acceleration.
And there in ends the physics lesson
