Hm... I hate to be a CCP basher but with everything that's been going on lately, I'm getting the impression they have an EA infestation somewhere in the building, causing them to screw up everything.
I mean, Quantum Rise? Not a single amount of lying paragraphs is going to convince me that you people came up with that title all yourself. Just like the James Bond title this title makes absolutely no sense when you know what it means. It just sounds and looks cool and interesting because it has a Q in it. That was one Quantum **** up, see how interesting that made me look?
As for your press release, the damn thing held more advertising then actual NEWS:
"EVE is this! EVE is blabla! EVE is player friendly! Love EVE! Oh and here is some stuff which might make it into the winter expansion but since we don't know yet we can't really say. But hey at least it diverts your short attention spans away from the giant tree we just shoved up your ass by announcing we were turning an official feature of the game into a bug because we need mo'money! Yea that was really unfriendly of us but luckily no-one will stay mad at us for long as long as we promise you cool stuff which isn't going to be half as cool as we made it sound!"
Independent? Tss from the looks of things CCP is as independent as a Scandinavian hooker on crack...

Weapon linking on SiSi: Unload all your weapons, right-click on the nice white triangle for module stuff (where you can hide inactive modules), and select "linking mode" or something. Drag same weapons on top of each other. Right-click on the triangle again, exit linking mode. Load ammo into weapon, be happy.
It's still a bit buggy, though.
I'm quite interested in what other changes will make it to SiSi. That the store fronts aren't "done" the way they are is nice. The S&I interface revamp is also missing still, though it might not have made it into midas. Then there's the new mass/inertia modifier numbers they promised in the live dev blog. And I haven't seen any of the updated graphics yet.
My personal favorite in this thread so far is the tinfoil conspiracy that the winter expansion that is in the talks for months now, and actually part of the regular expansion schedule, was "put out" now only to cover "PR disasters" - cute one, I give 9/10.

When are we going to see a proper expansion again ?
This one seems to be a bit meager, where are the glory days of the exodus, cold war and red moon rising expansions?

Cool new expansion; Yes I am happy for it. BUT, are all the known bugs will be fix before then or will it be stacked on the old ones and we will more headaches. Plus will the know lags be taken as well?

Edited by: Gombar on 16/10/2008 08:10:14 Ok, let's get things strait. CCP is a company, that like all companies is required to pay bills. In difference to common reception, they run an extremly expensive hardware setup which get's more and more expensive since they still buy hardware instead of investing in software (which is often no bad decision). They reached a capacity limit in thier service that they could not easly overcome or at least only gradualy. So there is a clear end in growth by numbers. So CCP decided to maximize income by increasing the price: - Make GTC more expensive (30%?) - Shrink the unpaying userbase (ghosttraining) Does this make the game less appealing? I don't think so.
Does this Expansion leave the feeling behind it, there is no much new? Yes for sure. I think CCP is mainly consumed to fight lag and allow more users to play s.a. So why concentrate your efforts on drawing in more players by cool new features, if your not able to serve them.
Makes sense to me

I think we should wait for more details before we judge this expansion. Also as it will be an industrial expansion some of the details are going to frankly be boring / not make sense to people who have never built anything, do not trade, haul, etc.

You know where the caravan is heading when they start press releases where they refer to themselves in third person.
Once upon a time there was this nice little online game. Then they hired 300 people to screw it up.

The thing is the 'unpaying' userbase, takes up 0 system resources. And still pays them some money. The result of this change will be the lost of the money from anyone who ever reactivated their account because they wanted to see what that skill that they left on when they QUIT is like. Now there's no incentive for that, and alot of people will be dumping alts. So instead of getting paid some money for chars that regularly login, they are going to get paid only by chars that login alot, but only pay for less accounts. So what they need to provide per customer will go up, and the total number of customers will go down as it already has hugely to prompt this ignorant change.
CCP pay alot of their bills in ISK, they earn their income in USD and Euros. The ISK has crashed recently vs the USD/Euro, which means that they would need a huge drop off in subscriptions to not be more profitable now than they have ever been.
They're spinning themselves into a failure cascade by denying themselves revenue because people have decided the game is not worth the money. Now more people will and more will until they really start being in actual trouble.
Hardware by the way, is getting cheaper all the time, so their hardware cost to service each player has dropped dramatically since the game was released, due to advances both in the hardware and the game code. (Factory slots and skill training etc are all coded so they have 0 impact on the game anymore, unless a player is actually logged in and doing things). This is how it should be, someone at CCP was smart enough to implement this, but their PR department is obviously at the other end of the building from anyone remotely intelligent.

I find the number of players complaining that they can't improve their characters for free to be pretty funny. I bet these same people quit WoW for six months and came back expecting to have leveled to 60 while on cruise control.

Sounds more like a patch than an expansion in all fairness. 1 new ship it will probably take me 4 months to train and use... nice. Why do some people on here claim this is a free expansion? I pay ú15ish a month...that ain't free, about standard for a normal expansion pack but then again when BF2:SF was released I only paid that ú15 once...not every month. The updates that come with Eve are far...far...far from free...so...STFU.

That's not what they're complaining about.
a) the amount that they can train is limited b) they have to PAY to get that improvement c) it will have a negative impact on CCPs finances (and not just from these people who do quit, but from all those who do not resubscribe because they lost that incentive). d) These people don't play WoW. Or if they do, they certainly won't be playing Eve again. e) Eve is not in ANY way comparable to WoW, doing so just makes you look stupid. Go back to WoW. f) The players 'complaining' have probably almost all spent more money on Eve than the average Eve player. g) Anyone who did use this, will now find their char is worth more as a result of the change. h) CCP are deliberately or negligently lying about the reasons for this change i) The notice given was pathetic. j) It is a FEATURE which was deliberately put in the game, it is NOT a feature of the Chinese version that launched years ago with an almost identical code base, so if it was unintended they could have with no effort 'fixed' it at that time k) It was advertised in the player guide, the forums, and word of mouth to other players.
But no, just reduce it to 'whining that they can't get something for free' and you show the level of consideration required to be employed at CCP.
Personally I would rather they put the subscription cost up, I don't mind paying more for the game, I think the impact this will have on the server population and CCP's finances are far worse than any impact it will have on me. (It's not going to affect me 'directly').

Its simple really.....the GTC price rise ......the monthly account cost rise ......CCP taking the rise .......so obviously the new expansion had to be called Quantum RISE .....
hmm is that a new item there too i see in the expansion....True CCP Damage control I/II.....fits in the lowest of the lowest slots in the sinking ship
Sorry but it sucks big time. for months and months now, there has been forum posting after forum posting and not one with any mention of a definite date etc of the "winter" expansion, yet here we are within a few days of considerably serious actions...no sanctions! on the gameplay of EVE you announce the rollout of the long awaited expansion.
will the last one to leave the building switch off the lights please

2 issues...
1 - Just who the hell names these damn expansions? Exodus, Cold War and Revelations have been the best names so far. Red Moon Rising, Empyrean Age and now Quantum Rise are the "WTF?" names. Only way Quantum Rise is cool is if it has sexual undertones.
2 - Press release before doing it the old way and saying, "Hai you guys! New expansion, w0000000000t! Heres whats going on in it, blah blah blah."? And then proceeds the usual forum orgy (that'll do saucy ) that is assosiated with an expansion.
In the year that i've been "gone", have you dude and dudettes lost your cool?
Please tell me you guys still get wasted so I can give you hot Gothie loving. ---

If this is supposed to be the 'industrialist' expansion, are you planning to do something about T2 BPOs?
They're currently interfering with the efficient working of the T2 market, and have been doing so since the introduction of invention.
At that time there was a discussion about replacing them with long-run T2 BPCs (like with the unlimited run BPCs), or introducing something like 'reverse engineering' that turns invented T2 BPCs into T2 BPOs that can be researched.
Either way, if the plan is to (also) wrap-up a long list of outstanding issues in this expansion, this is an issue that hasn't been addressed for a long time, is of a lot of interest to a large number of non-privileged industrialists, and would provide a fair and equal opportunity for all in T2 market PvP.
Looking forward to the expansion. -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |
