I really don't understand the responses in this thread. A lot of you seem to take personal offense that someone dares ask ccp to rerelease the classic client. Grow up. If you can run the premium client then good for you. This thread doesn't concern you. Go about your business and play the game.
I also would apreciate cpp releasing a new classic client. I will probably be quitting because of how the new client runs on my machine.

There is no separate client. See quote below.

There will not be a separate "Premium Lite" client. Shader Model 2 and Shader Model 3 support is integrated into a single client in Apocrypha.
Download the Classic to Premium upgrade and run your client in Classic mode (automatically detected) until Apocrypha deployment. After patching the Apocrypha client will automatically run in SM2 mode.

only $300!! isn't money! :D... but I haven't it so... baltec1, Micheal Dietrich, Khlitouris RegusII (I play in my laptop so I can't upgrade with only ú35), FOl2TY8, Zeba, TimGascoigne, MotherMoon, etcetc... I think that all of you don't need money so... Why you don't help me giving me the money that you don't need? I promise use it in upgrade my laptop!
I will Love You all (L) ^^
Tell me that this is because CCP is an enterprise and not charity and want to save 1hour to his team each pach (for make it for classic client too), tell me that CCP is counting money so can't maintain classic client too, but don't tell me that I must upgrade my computer because I can't. Anyways, I must leave EVE, my 3 accouts will be frozen in 2 weeks (subscription time out)... and don't tell me "Frozen your accounts couple of months and buy new computer!" because I pay with GTC ¼¼.
This is moneycracy

You don't have to spend hundreds. A $30 video card will do just fine. Stop whining and join the 21st century. You can't play EVE with an abacus, either. Deal with it. I no longer have sympathy for all the incessant whining. If they were cutting out support for a recent machine, fine. Whine all you want. They're not. Get over it. --

Let me ask you something. Why would you even come here and say that? It serves no purpose. Just go play the game and leave a thread that doesn't have anything at all to do with you alone. Its not hard.

You can forget about CCP brining classic back. Keeping it around for a small percentage of the playerbase makes no sense as it involves costs to keep a parallel codebase going.
That the classic client would go was known since beginning of the year or so. And players brought plenty news back from test server so there was no surprise here.
EVE has been around for 6 years (and that's only counting since release) and improved all the time. Not using new visual techs is not reasonable. And maintaining the old cruft forever is not reasonable either.
So - we just have to adapt. And as many have pointed out - at least for the many people with desktops - getting a sufficiently more powerfull card is dirt cheap (tens of $$). Practically any other new game has way more requirements than EVE.
p.s. I *am* affected myself. And I'm a laptop player. With the new client I'm down to borderline usable fps - with settings opmized for performance. But I know that my rig is outdated for modern gaming and just have to muddle through until I find my next laptop. --- Save the forum: Think before you post. ISK BUYER = LOSER EVE TV- Bring it back! People whining about the game running on laptops are ridiculous. Unless you're dropping $5,000 on some idiotic candy-apple red crap-job AlienWare laptop specifically built for gaming, you're lucky to have a laptop that will run games developed the year you bought your laptop. And here people are whining about something developed in 2009 no longer running on laptops two, three, four, six years old. Seriously. Adjust your expectations, people. Is this the only game you've ever played in your life? Have you never had to upgrade something to play that hot new game you'd been anticipating coming out of development for years? Good grief. --

What he said. Suck it up and deal, can't play eve? okay, move on. REALLY REALLY want to? save up/unsubscribe for a bit, then pick up a new graphics card or computer.
I'm a laptop user myself, and I already had a difficult time running Classic. Hell, I've been working on my Apocrypha patch for 6+ hours, still to no avail, and therefore I don't even know if my card will actually work. But I'm not too miffed. If things go sour, I'll just cancel til I can upgrade my setup.
tl;dr - chill the f*** out, suck it up, and deal. -------

Read the DEV blogs and you'll see that IF you want to update your GPU your best advise is to skip 2 and go 3+ for the following reasons as per CCP Zulupark and CCP Wrangler
perhaps in december 2009 - no more shadermodel2 http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=615
here http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=617

you sort out how much you have to spend, if it was me i'd skip up a bunch to a non-minmatar GPU!! |

Then maybe mayhaps you should write Apple a nastygram for using a graphics card incapable of supporting tech that at the time of release was FOUR YEARS OLD, and is now SEVEN. Shader Model 2.0 came out IN 2002.
Hell, my laptop is 4 years old, and it can at least run the full premium graphics. How crappy are the newer laptops of the whiners here if they can't run SM2? ---- zzzz ... zzzz ... zzzz |

QFT!!!
Originally by: CCP Zulupark We know this will affect some players out there. What we don't know is exactly how many. We estimate that about 95% of all subscribers currently have hardware that is SM2 compatible. We further predict that in q4 this year over 97% of subscribers will have SM3 capable hardware. This means that an estimate of anywhere from 3%-5% of current subscribers would have to update their computers or graphics cards to be able to continue playing.

2D != 3D processing
seriously 20MB is 1! texture map in some games 1!
20meg is f'all in a modern 3d game go render a scene on your laptop with as many triangles and textures as a normal station in eve then come back and actually start to talk like you know something about how computers work. Want to blame someone? Blame yourself for thinking intel could make a graphics chip that was worthwhile.

There is a problem with the statement "We estimate that about 95% of all subscribers currently have hardware that is SM2 compatible," which may come back to bite ccp in the ass (or not).95% may be factually correct, but just because a card runs sm2 doesn't mean that it runs it competently. I wonder what portion of the 95% fits into that category. Possibly a large bulk of laptop users which gaming is already not a priority for. I doubt many of them will be upgrading their machines.

I pulled a cola filled, dead laptop from the trash at the back of a computer shop. After three hours with isoproanol alcohol and a soldering iron, it now runs Eve Premium, acceptably.
Total cost? ú2.50 for the second hand screen cleaning kit I got in a charity shop which contained the alcohol.

Our crack pipes? What about yours? 2d and 3d have been vastly different since the mid 90's. There are lots of video cards that perform just fine on 2d but horribly (or not at all) on 3d. I'm not sure why you think there's no difference.
For instance, I had a matrox g400 for a long time... scratch that, it's still in my fileserver... and even when it was new, 3d games were unplayable on it (I expected as much when I got it). Just because I bought something advertised as a "3d" card does not mean it should run everything or anything that I want. But I suppose I should have whined to id software rather than buy a geforce?

buy 1 GB of ram buy a 5 year old motherboard. get a P4 2.5 (the right models support sm2)
done.
RO spend 300$ and get a rig that plays everything at good settings at 40 fps.
sorry to say that shader models don't come on cpu's yet they are part of the gpu so all they need to do is get a graphics card.

No issue with the new client except....
Sweet mother this game looks ugly on low quality shader. I mean it makes the classic client look next-gen in comparison. I warped to a pos only to find the bubble burned out my retina with it's whiteness.
Switched to medium quality shader, now I have 1/2 the frame rate.
Sigh.

its quite easy really, after all, it takes less than 1000.00 to get a decent computer to play eve, and in all actuality, less than 600.00
so therefore, if you play eve, and pay the monthly fee, there is no reason except your sheer lazyness to get the cash for a decent system.
