Holy crap! Give this guy a cookie! I downloaded this app, and with a little tweaking, Eve now runs on my 10-year old laptop with shader model "0". I got the (freeware) software here:
http://files.filefront.com/3danalyzer+v236rar/;5422262;/fileinfo.html
Now, you need to create a batch file that calls \bin\exefile.exe from another directory, but it works just fine for changing skills and chatting! This is golden.

Buy a new house and deticate a room to noting but your server. Then, get 32 monitors, totaling 200' x 165'. It makes a kinda big rectangular shape. Next, you buy the server, drop 2 million on it and the a/c unit to cool it. Finally, you sit back and relax, and say, "oh my, cant complain now can i?"
Thats my setup for ya. It can run 110 eve clients with ease at 79 fps. I can also run any voice servers along with it, and if i want, i can change a screen over to TV, and watch a great TV show while playing EVE.
Maybe not on subject but, Lol..that's funny:)
Of course Al Gore is going to come over and unplug ya for causing global warming. I'm sure it could get pushed through as some type of earmark green energy program.

If you think about it, only about 50-75 different people have posted all day complaining about it. Those who are having problem playing ARE going to complain.
Those not having problems, like myself and the 24000 online now, are far less likely to be on the forums voicing their opinion. Seeing that eve online has 260,000 subscribers and only 100 different people have came to the forum to complain, what does that say to CCP?
Of course this is only day one, and this number will probably grow. Lets say when all said and done 8000 people have an unplayable eve(above 3%) Conservatively 1/3 if not 1/2 will resolve their hardware issue. That leaves 5,280 people that won't renew their subscriptions(2%).
Now, will the boxxed version bring in more than 6k subscribers? CCP wins.

This man says it all. Some people really are expecting WAY too much from a game development company. I'm surprised CCP supported the classic client for this long. Being in software development, I can understand the sheer work and complexity involved in supporting an extra player base. What that player base doesn't seem to understand is that they are an extreme minority, and there are not enough of them to pay for the costs involved in producing another pipeline piece of software - it's INSANELY expensive. --- Have a rawr on me. |

Ya I'm sure all those millions of laptop users are just kicking themselves saying..uh..why would I buy a laptop...what possible purpose..lol
Never had much luck hauling my old desktops through airport security. Guess they thought that was just weird.
If they wanted a gaming rig, wouldn't someone buy a GAMING MACHINE..like an XBOX?..lol
Guys silly arguements..just silly.
Bottom line is they made a call..somehow..that the people they lost they would gain more by new software or lowered expenses of maintaining compatability. Time and their bottom line will tell, not anyone in this forum. Maybe someday when I do buy a machine for ANOTHER reason I'll be back..or maybe not if they aren't here or I find a better game.

CCP Warned its users that there was going to be a change in the graphics engine. If World of warcraft did the same, All the 12-year-olds will be crying about the same thing. But we Eve online players are better then that. We don't cry, We adapt, Get a job, buy cheap computers.
What do you want CCP to do? spend more money on a dieing engine or get with the times and spend less money on a "good" engine ---

Ahaa. your so silly...and wrong.
It's re-installing now. Takes forever to update. I played it before on this machine. If it doesn't work they did it in last year or so. If not I still have an old UO account or god forbid something like mankind tons of games anymore. BTW distribution and box sets cost $money$. If they don't bring in enough people or compete well with ALL the other box set online games out there...ouch. That is where the money went. Not for maintaining compatibility:) They made a choice. Still, I wish them success and all here enjoy the game while you got it I guess and quit trolling the forums posting on subjects that don't affect you..lol

The new requirements were announced a couple of months ago (with links to sites where you could check your video card/chip for compatibility) so that people would have time to prepare or cancel their accounts if necessary. CCP handled the upgrade very professionally.
If you want to play computer based video games you have to live with the fact that you actually may have to upgrade your equipment at least once a decade. By the way, comparing the graphics in WoW to the graphics in EVE is a bit like comparing "Jurassic Park" with "The Valley of Gwangi". (Not that Valley of Gwangi was bad, its hard to beat dinosaurs and cowboys in the same movie. )

Put down your crack pipe and get real. I can edit videos and 20MB photographs on my laptop with no problems. Not being able to play an internetz video game on the same hardware is ridiculous.
NO, I say you get down to the real world. Laptops are not designed to play games. Gaming laptops are. Unless you have an expensive gaming laptop than STFU. Also this new requirements are not that high. Think about Age of Conan for example or Crysis. What about those? Can you play those on a laptop? No. Most modern games won't run on laptops not specifically built for gaming. The fact that you edit picture and video doesn't matter. Those are more processor dependent anyways. So please get a grip, and realize that if you go into a shop and ask for a recent cool game from the clerk, it won't run as well on your crappy laptop.
God... sometimes I wish Eve would have launched with significantly higher reqs, that why it would have kept people like you out.

I don't get the whole 'OMFG GIEF BACK CLASSIC, NAOW!' It decreases the work CCP has to do by like.. a lot By sparing that time, they can focus on other things, which in the end (perhaps) will result in a better product, rather than having to make the 'old and slow' able to follow the 'top of the line', seriously, ''evolution'' is a part of life, same counts for this game. |

Edited by: Takahiro Matsuda on 11/03/2009 08:56:29 I'm sorry but how can anybody that intends to play games not have a video card that AT LEAST supports shader model 2.0. Like ****, I've been playing on a computer I paid $250 for. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (OC'd to 3.0GHz), 2GB DDR2 800MHz, NF-M2S motherboard, Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT. I just recently upgraded to a BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC2 and that ran me $350. I'm now enjoying the game with maxed out settings at 1920x1200. Old video card (which was $99.99) could run it maxed out but at 1440x900 with an FPS no lower than 40. As others have stated, if you can afford the $14.99 a month to play the game you should be able to afford a new video card and if not then you're probably starving because you're spending your grocery money on subscription fees. If that is the case, then hold out on buying toilet paper for a month and use the old **** and shower trick... there you have it, a new video card.
Edit: I'm also one of those unlucky people to lose their job because of this ridiculous recession yet I pulled this off AND kept buying my toilet paper. "Because none of us are as cruel as all of us." |

How about "unsub and play something else" in that case.

You can buy a compatable graphics card off eBay for ú20, but I suspect that wouldn't be an acceptable answer either.

I can understand why CCP does not want to spend money on producing duplicate assets (textures, normal maps, etc) for two or three different clients, but ....
... I don't see why the client MUST use all those features. Let us switch off bump mapping, pixel shading, even textures, all the stuff that slow down the client.

It sucks, probably.
Fact is - times change. And if you honestly think your P200 with 32mb Voodoo Dragon AGP card will continue to run new games then you have to think again.
Much like anything that concerns computers - at some point you HAVE to upgrade your hardware.
Looks like its time folks, get out your credit cards if you must.

I think he was being sarcastic. I might be wrong though.
As far as "petition" goes, do you realize that it would take couple of weeks (maybe months) just to rework all new assets for classic client? And how much accounts does it take to repay that kind of investment? Hundreds? Thousands?

Yes, I was being sarcastic, and perhaps gently flaming... but in all seriousness, you know... things move on. The world can't adapt to your specific needs all the time.
For example, You can't by leaded petrol/gasoline any more - if you had a car that ran on four star you had to get it converted to unleaded, or buy a new one.
If you had an analogue TV set in the UK it is now completely useless, as we switched to digital. You need to buy a new one.
It happens, it's annoying if you are using the legacy system and need to change, but that's just tough cookies.
