Graphics are just numbers that your computer visualize, and yes they do add to lag.
No, they don't[0].
Lag refers to the latency of the network connection (and associated infrastructure) between your PC and the data centre. This is sometimes expressed as round trip time or "ping"[1].
Now, your PC might struggle to render all the information that it is being asked too and this might manifest as a low frame rate, but your graphics card being ****e does not mean that your latency is increasing[2].
[0] How fast your CPU and/or GPU can do some sums has no relation whatsoever to the latency of your network connection. [1] I have a degree in computer networks and have played games online since Quake - I know just a little bit about network latency. [2] Just spend ú20 on eBay and stop winging, seriously.

of course it does :-) if your client is single threaded, then your network part is waiting for your video part.
anyway it does manifest as client side lag (the only part actualy visible to the end user). no matter how the server works, client perceptible lag is the only part that matters anyway. --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Stop buying toilet paper for a month and use the **** and shower technique. Voila! You're now a proud owner of a video card that supports shader model 2.0. I'd also like to add that there are a number of other, less drastic measures out there that would allow you to buy one. A few examples would be not smoking, not buying that case of beer, or not eating at McDonald's every day. "Because none of us are as cruel as all of us." |

when it comes to expecting CCP to cater to old crappy machines you are dreaming, you had 6 years worth of fun on that relic which is plenty. Its just a quirk of a large online game that lasts so long that eventually they will upgrade it and make it better or it will fade away and become unsupported, now which do you want? eve to stay the same and fade away or for it to become better than ever? perhaps you should be realistic and upgrade your sh*tbox

I am against return of the classic client.
People that are affected have to realize they doing it wrong. It was quite obvious for the past 2 years that this would eventually happen.
Eve has to go forward, it did, the fact that you stayed in the past is nobody to blame for but yourself.

I was worried my laptop would no long run eve after the new release, however it now runs better on premium lite so i'm
shame is, now i have no reason to justify upgrading it (it's 4 years old) ! i'd been looking for a month at what i'd buy if it didn't work.
I'm glad ccp dropped classic, they can concerntrate on making the game better and attracting more new players, it was 100% the right decision.

While my laptop can still run EVE fine, I find it disconcerting that in a few years I'll be asked to buy a new one (can't upgrade, don't have space for a desktop) so that I can still play EVE when the graphics are upgraded again.

Classic Client lol...if you cant spare the few bucks for a decent system that runs Eve Premium/Lite you shouldnt play videogames at all. Dont get me wrong...Classic was already outdated a few years ago.
And nobody needs "hundreds" of dollars to get the necessary hardware...pathetic sorry. I would even yell for a full DX10 Client to make things much more tasty.
Notice that: "upgrade your computer" "my cousin got a 4 year-old computer that works fine" "get a job" "if you can spend 15/month you can afford 400 for a rig"
are VERY acceptable answers.

God where to start, first I am amazed at the number of people that play EVE on laptops. I mean I do about 4 times a year when on the road but not the majority of the time. Even then I had enough sense that when I got my laptop to buy one with a gaming capable graphics option. However I will say that laptops, even gaming capbale ones are a **** choice for gaming. This is not the fault of the game makers, this is the fault of some silly mentality that took a machine designed purely for business and portable connectivity and tried to make it like a home PC.
Next if you have a decent home PC the cost for an upgrade to make the new EVE graphics works is CHEAP, in the US less than $100 will buy more than enough graphics card to EASILY handle EVE.
As for the OP commented about not knowing he would have to upgrade to play a game, I guess he has not been in PC gaming very long. CCP is BEHIND the curve when it comes to a lot of this stuff, most MMOs are. The good news for an MMJO player is they can build a fairly inexpesnive gaming machine and get about 4 to 5 years real use out of it if they make wise choices. That is an AMAZING upgrade curve compared to other segments of the gaming industry. Using the US prices I can build a gaming PC that will play EVE great on a 19" wide screen for around $500 without the monitor and have a ton of life in it. Investing $500 to $750 every 5 years for a hobby is CHEAP!
Look I am sorry if your PC lacks the horsepower to play EVE, must be pretty wimpy really and shows a serious need for an upgrade. However this is not a life or death issue. If you want to play EVE or any game the answer is simple, pay for an upgrade and enjoy your hobby. If you do not want to pay then no worries do not play. But for gods sake grow up and quit crying like a baby becuase you have not got your way. Keep your damn stuff and move on..

So, we're all in a global economic crisis right. And there are people here that wish to force their own overheads onto CCP by expecting them to bring Classic client back and therefore increasing the resources needed to maintain two clients, dramatically, which will in turn decrease the enjoyment of the majority fanbase because resoruces elsewhere will be greatly stretched?
I'm totally skint. I also have a laptop from years ago and a desktop that's about 3 years old. I used to play on the laptop while on the go, and now I can't. Not an issue as this is something i've learnt to accept from years of not being able to play anything on it. In fact it was a bit of a luxury really to even have EvE playable on it at all!
I do feel sorry for those without the cash to buy a new laptop or upgrade their desktops (My upgrade for my desktop gfx card was around 50 quid so that I could continue to play) but you can't expect or demand a reinstatement of a, quite frankly, knackered client. We're all under pressure from the economy. There is no solution to those who do not have access to sufficient funds for a new laptop or desktop upgrade. Sorry :(

First of all, if you are quiting EVE, I can take your stuff. Contract them to me, Jita preferably.
My PC runs my client at steady 200-220fps with everything maxed @ 1680x1050. And no, I dont have a job. And upgrading a computer once in a decade shouldnt be that hard.
Maybe you fanboys should stop buying from Apple, since they obviously fail miserably. Also, trying to play games with 10-year-old laptops is ridiculous. And when you do upgrade your rig/buy a new one, buy something worth the money. Dont just buy the cheapest piece of crap you can, as it will suck badly and you are back to square one.

I can sympahise to an extent with people on rubbish computers but this game has been out for ages and tbh you don't have t spend much. It isn't fair for the other 95% of the players to spend so much effort on making another client.

ther is realy no other option than getting a new and better comp/laptop. gamers all around the world r demaning better and better graphix on the games they have/will get, so for a company to go the other way is just stupid.
if your comp is so old/weak that it cant run eve u just have to stop playing, save upp some RL cash and get yourself new and powerfull comp or uppgrade the 1 u allready have. ull get a long way whit a new graphix card and additional 2 gigs of ram.

No need to be embarrassed pal, we can set up a paypal account for you to get some donations so you can buy yourself a decent GPU to run EVE on 640x480. How about that?
I build "poor mans gaming rigs" all the time for friends who are casual players. A damn 300 bucks machine will run Eve Premium Lite without troubles. I even tested it myself yesterday...hell you even get old AGP cards fast enough to run it so you can upgrade even with an old motherboard for the cost of two McDonalds meals. So keep that +1 in your behind where you like it the most. I will let you know when teh internez collected 30$ for your new uber GPU.

Just a shame the larger portion of the gaming world are idiots, whom we can thank for the crappy games which make up at about 80% of the market.
It's not always shiny graphics and explosions.
If as much effort went into developing the playability, replay value, innovation and plot aspects of games, sure we'd have graphics not quite as good as todays world, but they'd be a helluva lot more fun. ---
