I opened a Petition to publish a patch now or remove dominion until all the players are able to play.
For those who live in 0.0 this first weeks are crucial and we have many logistic ops to do NOW.
For example now I can't participate to the transport of hubs in 0.0 and this can lead to a delay in the new sov strategy we have.
This is a big issue cause at the strategic level corps with players with OSX client are penalized in this delicate moment of the game. Is not just a problem of losing a battleship in belt or some drones.

Originally by: Wentau I downloaded the patch and it didnt work.
I read the above posts, deleted the preferences files and nothing happened.
I deleted the program (as per another above suggestion), downloaded the client again but still NOTHING happened. I mean nothing happened. I click on the icon and.....nothing: no splash, no video, no game, nothing.
I hope they fix this soon or im gonna lose alot of training time on my toon.
Wentau, I had the same problem. Could you check if Cider is crashing on you? I explained how to check that on my first post. Also, what version of OS X are you running?
Thanks and hope we can get back to the game asap.

Ok guys a suggestion is to completely reinstall, the client. Another thing is that CCP loves the trace if you get stuck halfway.
Look we have been here before, they always managed to find the bug and kill it. Takes just a bit of patience. Just hang in there.

Reinstalling doesn't seem to help. Also, after my first reinstall I can't even clean preferences because they don't exist anymore. I guess the game creates them when launching the first time, but since it crashes before launching...
Then again, I'm on Tiger, so maybe my problem is different from you guys using Leopard or SLeopard...

Originally by: mark45601 I couldn't get in the game so I deleted the eve preferences folder from the library. That worked until I got DC'ed again and had the same issue of the game not loading, so I deleted the preferences again, worked for a while then I got kicked from the server again, rinse-repeat. I've done this about 5 times now. I give up. Model Name:iMac Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2.4 GHz Memory:4 GB Chipset Model:ATI,RadeonHD2600 VRAM (Total):256 MB
You have the same Mac configuration I do. And we are both experiencing the same issue. My client will run fine over 1 or 2 jumps, or local ratting, but go on a trip, and every 5-7 jumps after coming out of a jump, the client locks up. After one lockup, I had to clear out my preference files because it would not let me log into my main char. I could log onto my second char, just not my main. Fortunately I was able to recover my fittings and I can at least log in, but afraid to do any real missioning or exploring until this is resolved.
I have a petition in and will post the results here.

Pay attention. :) He told you that he described the process in his first post in this thread.
Originally by: Pierre Louis Running Tiger for professional reasons and the game won't load. The Console tells that Cider has crashed and upon looking at the Cider crash log I saw that it was due to an invalid kernel address.
Could this be a problem on Cider or has Tiger been phased out intentionally?
Could anyone with 10.5 or 10.6 check if Cider is crashing as well?
The log should be at /Users/<your user name>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. Look for cider.crash.log.
To see if cider crashed during the attempt to launch EVE simply open up the Console.
Thanks guys.
Bold section is the relevant one.
-----
Having same problem as some others here. I get the normal open animation, then nothing. Opening by double-clicking on cider shows segmentation fault and program exit. Log shows invalid kernel address.
White iMac 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 RAM OS: 10.4.11
I do have the Snow Leopard disc, but I don't have the one with iLife or whatever so I can't just upgrade. I don't want to blow away my current OS install quite yet.
Currently downloading the complete client to try installing that. Will be a couple more hours before I can try it though. -- Man With The Plan, Starbase Setter-Upper, Doesn't Like Bunnies |

so; reinstalled again, and played for a bit, again. Now back to square one, AGAIN. I think a patch should be released for this... this is... unacceptable guys. Also, under the assumption everything was working, I went into a lower clone to move some nullsec stuff and then it all went to hell; so, do you think it's petetionable to get me learning advanced to where it would be had I not swapped clones with all this BS. I only ask because were it public knowledge that this patch is... well, a joke as far as implementation goes; I wouldn't have swapped clones. I am also asking on behalf of others who did the same thing; 10 days and 14 days is a big difference... please CCP, resolve.

same:
If this is of any help, I tried to start the client by launching the cider icon within the client folder (I remember this working on a past glitch somehow).....I then get the terminal window, which states "segmentation fault, logout complete" and of course nothing happens after that. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can make some sense of this.
Running on 1.4.11 (yes previous patch allways warned it wants as minimum 10.5.6 but I never had any serious trouble running Eve on 10.4.11 ... usually I'm online like 8h - 12h and only after being online very long it sometimes hang when exiting. Besides that it run prfectly)
Now it does not run at all (preferenes deleted, but as it does not recreate them I assume it crahses before that stage)

One thing you might want to try that could narrow the problem down a bit is to create a new account on your Mac, and try to run the game from it. That way you know for sure that all prefs/library entries are created cleanly upon first client load. Curious if this helps anyone...

Submitted a bug report and included a Cider crash log. I have done a FULL install TWICE and still have no joy when clicking the client application icon. Full installs were NOT performed BEFORE clearing cache and settings folders which produced no positive results. Awaiting fix to be posted by CCP. Apocrypha ran just fine on my OS 10.4.11 system before the patch release. Come on CCP. Don't let me down!

Hi all,
Since last night we have been working on tracking down the crash issues and trying to reproduce them in house. Those of you who are getting these crashes, bug reports with the following would be greatly appreciated:
- What you were doing at the time of the crash. - What Version of OS X you are running. - What hardware and specifically what graphics card you have. - A cider Trace of when you are trying to start the client back up but it fails to load (Info about Traces can be found at the bottom of this page: http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Mac_Bug_Reporting) - Any workaround you have found.
Please note that: 10.4 also known as Tiger is not officially supported. The same goes for the Macbooks with integrated graphics cards GMA950 or X3100. At the same time we are not trying actively to break the client for those who use it.

Thanks Casqade. It's good to hear that you're not decomissioning OS X 10.4.
For us Tiger users there seems to be a clear pattern. The game won't load because of a Cider crash immediately after being called, due to a segfault or a kernel address problem.
This way, no preference files are created after the old ones are deleted, because eve never even starts. This seems to be a Tiger-only problem. I may be asking too much, but did you guys change anything on the Cider wrapper for Dominion?
I'm a bit sad that this seems to be a Tiger specific problem, since you no longer support that version of the OS and it seems there are some other folks using 10.4 still (I thought I was one of the few).
Apocrypha ran on my macbook with a GMA950 under Tiger with no problems (except low graphics, of course) so I was expecting that Dominion would do it as well.

I am afraid that this is an assumption you cannot make when you are running on unsupported hardware. Unsupported hardware means that we are not testing on it and we are not developing new features/changes with the unsupported hardware in mind.

I have hangs and disconnects (socket lost) on all 3 of my Macs, and my partner does on her iMac - that's all 4 Macs in the house dying horribly with Dominion. I've tried to establish a pattern by writing down when, where and what I was doing before an issue but so far it looks entirely random.
All machine have had the following problems: (*) Freezing (*) Socket Lost (*) Won't start (unless trash prefs, have done this many times now)
Imac and MacPro had this problem: (*) Keyboard gets somehow locked into caps
Systems affected:
(1) Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 Ghz Quad Core Intel-Xeon 6GB RAM MacOSX 10.5.8 ATI Radeon HD 2600 (256MB)
(2) Mac Mini 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM MacOSX 10.5.8 NVIDEA GeForce 9400 (256MB)
(3) MacPro 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM MacOSX 10.6.2 NVIDEA GeForce 9600M GT (256MB)
(4) iMac 2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM MacOSX 10.5.6 NVIDEA GeForce 7300GT (128MB)
The updates themselves look awesome, I just hope we can get some stability fast!

I've been having client hangups at gates, auto-piloting and in a mission twice. It seems to be occurring 20 to 30 minutes after log in. I have no way to exit game and have to reboot the pc. I can only re-enter game after deleting the preferences folder, or log in will not pass the character selection. |

Deleted the original application and downloaded the full version and did a clean re-install. Client worked fine for 1-2 hours, then froze before a gate jump. Now it gets to the sign in screen, says it is connecting and then freezes. Need Force Quit again.
After 2 hours of re-organizing my bookmarks, my overview settings and all preferences, I am loathe to do this all over again.
Not sure what else to try tbh.

10.4 was released 4.5 years ago. The last update to it was released over 2 years ago.
A lot of things have happened to the OS since that time and while I understand that you aren't happy about the situation, what do you expect CCP to do? Devote numerous manpower hours and equipment to test something so outdated?
Out of interest to those it may concern, I seem to recall that you are able to install the "update version" of 10.6 that only costs $29 on Macs running 10.4 too. But I am sure someone can confirm or deny that statement here.

For the people who won't upgrade from 10.4 to 10.6 due the upgrade price... You can upgrade Tiger directly to Snow Leopard for $29, You don't need to buy 10.5 or the expensive bundled upgrade.
Mentioned here: http://ptech.allthingsd.com/20090826/apple-changes-leopards-spots/
About 25% of the way through the article, end of the second paragraph below the picture of the Snow Leopard box.
Granted, that may not help people with specific software problems, but if price is the only thing stopping you, it shouldn't.

I think this violates Snow Leopard's EULA. Not sure, though.
Anyhow, it's a bad situation for both parts. On one side CCP wants to make a shinier game. On the other hand, some people don't want to have to upgrade their computers to keep playing the game they've bought and have invested time and money into.
Then again, this is not an EVE problem, but one of all persistent world games.
Wouldn't hurt if we were offered a less shiny version of the client, for example.
Indeed I was saddened by the "well, tough luck" stance towards the users of 10.4. I figured we'd be a negligible population, but now I'm curious to see how many mac users were running Apocrypha on 10.4.
Anyhow, I'm still hoping that when they release a new Dominion client for mac the Cider wrapper will stop segfaulting and load the game on 10.4 as well.
edit: Also, some people don't upgrade because Snow Leopard breaks some software they use. Last time I checked I wouldn't be able to run Civ4 on snow leopard...

I understand the views of some people that CCP has no obligation to support an "outdated" os (10.4.11). If this were the only issue with Dominion I would see the writing on the wall as it were, and upgrade. And yes, Eve has run fine on my current os thus far. However, at this time, there seems to be issues with Leopard/Snow Leopard as well. My mac is a machine for the home and has done everything I ask of it with Tiger, so I guess I will wait and see if a patch is forthcoming.....3 days left on my current skill queue.
