I don't see any reason however for CQ to NOT be optional. Right now there is a button to click on to access character creation in each station. Just leave the current hangars as they are and change that button to load CQ instead. Problem solved. Revamp the hangar interiors however to reflect accurately what you see in CQ so you don't see two different hangars. Now...was that so hard?
Either way...do it or not...won't bother me one bit.
First anyone claiming to represent 'the vast majority of players' needs to go and get the stats to prove it.
If you don't care if CQ is optional or not then that's great, but for some of those that do its a big issue. If you don't care whether its optional or not then throw your weight behind those behind more choice thus keeping everyone happy, rather than less choice and really (word ccp doesn't like me type) some people off.
The point about this is that making CQ optional keeps everyone (for a given value of everyone ;-) ) happy... Making it compulsory makes a good number of people unhappy... do the math. __________________________________________________

It's surprising when they get rid of useful stuff like the option to walk in stations or not.

useless piece of crap, hurry up to make all this **** be live so we can have news about REAL content, not this waste of time.
And **** you CCP if I don't have an option "disable all incarna feature as I dont give a **** about sims" to check.
"You can now see this box of protein stuff and this is so funny and brings so much to the game!"
Are you kidding me? Are you even serious to think that this crap is something good for Eve? Pathetic.

Why not just prompt people the first time they dock to get out of their ship, and have a little "disable automatic exit from ship" checkbox, that people can check & uncheck in the advanced options?
And add a button "Exit into CQ" above the "Undock" button? So this way we aren't automatically loading the CQ each time we dock, and we can still spin the ship if we want. We'll also see a nice little dock, and hopefully the hangar will be a little more up-to-date.
Personally I love the new CQ (with an exception of the ship being still way too far away from the platform), but I know I wouldn't want to exit the ship every single time I dock - sometimes only for brief moments to swap something.
This would make everyone happy I think.

Ugh! Tell me the figure is going to move better in a final release? CCP has tempted us for years with cool looking figures with much more graceful and realistic movement than in that video.
I figured it'd all end up just another WoW dolly style animation. If that's all they can do then that is all they should have shown before now.

I think I nerdgasm'd when I heard that bit where commodities will show up on your shelves.
Being more serious now - this is extremely likely to cause unwanted stress on low-end computers. There really needs to be a way to make station-walking an optional load or given a simplified environment for computers that can't handle the expansive environments.

Great work. I have a few suggestions for useful player environments and a few things Id love to see in EVE.
1.Observation lounges in the station with access to the stations system scanner. Good fun to watch the ships arriving and leaving, gaze at the stars and planets, and handy to see if there is any unwelcome company waiting for you outside the station before you depart.
2. A star port where you can buy a ticket for your self and your cargo and board the next jump freighter out of system (handy if your being camped in a station and you have better places to be and more important things to do). This also has the potential to open up new industries in space liner passenger/cargo transport and space tourism. Great fun to take a holiday and go on a guided tour of the wonders of new EVE.
3. Player environments on Capital class and larger ships. Go to the bar on your flight on the jump freighter or watch the stars go by from your first-class cabin window. Or try to find the nearest Escape Pod when your carrier starts to break apart in the midst of an interstellar battle.
Really the possibilities are both endless and exciting. I can hardly wait. =D

Okay, .. so whats CCP's direction here....
1) Nerf sanctums in 0.0 to lower income and make 0.0 less valuable. 2) boost high sec, by making agent quality equal everywhere. 3)re-nerf 0.0 by stopping capitals from using jump bridges, making 0.0 less valuable. 4)Release "incarna" where we are able to walk around 1 single room (a prison cell?) that adds nothing to the game.
I just don't get it, I don't understand at all where your boat is sailing. It appears that there are too many visions of what eve should be.
you make internet spacesship game; please focus on the space ships thing.
Imagine the state that lag would be in, should they have devoted the resources of incarna to that issue.

I've been reading a lot about this and the video is a very good introduction, nice work!
I'm quite excited about Captain's Quarters as to me it signifies a growth with regards to Eve being an immersive world. One in which you can actually live in, not just play in, and I think that's a very good thing.
Only one request: Please make it so you can move between Captain's Quarter view and the current Hangar view. Some of the current station environments are quite lovely and signify "home". Even coming back to Eve years later, seeing those environments makes me feel at home, and they are very important. Ship spinning is also not to be underestimated :-) - Just having the option (even if the default is CQ) to be able to move to the hangar view (As was shown at the FanFest I believe a while ago?) would be very much appreciated!
Great work and looking forward to the future, but please do listen to the player suggestions and feedback too!
Lander Simraan's ideas of being able to look outside and see the ships coming and leaving the station is a really nice idea!

Great they cant fix lag and yet another graphics intensive useless feature that will slow the game down more. COuld we at least have the option not to load the Captains Quarters? I'm sure that there are 13 year olds and refugees from the Star Trek conventions who are getting orgasmic about CQ but for those of us that just want a fast game thats fun, could you please fix the lag issues and stop adding useless features to the game. |

Edited by: Cyberus on 25/05/2011 20:58:38 So far i have seen there is posebility get to the balcony and look at your ship, though its still remain at big distance, so i will release my rage upons you and ask few questions:
1) Since there is balcony where we can look at our space begemoths that we fly in cold dark space of New Eden but its still remain far away to see realy true size compared to human body, so do you plan in the future make poseble enter landing pad ( lets say trough elevators from CQ and walk to the just few meters near our ship ( covered by glass tunnel meaby?)?
2) If you plan so will be it poseble also make there room where our pod stored so we can enter it almost manulay and see how it get placed in the ship ( that could be awesome, just imagine how impressive it will be?) ?
Meaby a few more questions will be later.

I've been looking forward to Ambulation since before it was ever announced, strongly feeling that station interiors were missing from this game. I love what CQ promises (even if it's still horribly work-in-progress-y and really quite useless). I will certainly spend more time in carna than in a pod. BUT:
No "stay in spaceship" option? WTF? WHY? Why, considering all the skepticism, the unhappiness and the potential problems? Why not even answer this very question, as it has been asked so many times?
Could someone please kindly point me to our new and improved CSM's stance on this? Or alternatively to the Assembly Hall petition for the button for me and almost everyone else here to sign?

Edited by: Soden Rah on 25/05/2011 21:05:13 for those wanting CQ to be optional I have created a petition thread in assembly hall.
For all the reasons stated above lets try to get this changed before it hits TQ.
EDIT: I hadn't actually read the above post before posting, as I was typing as it happened... some sort of psychic thing going on there. __________________________________________________

Srsly, I don't think this is something that should be done. Next time CCP is introducing something new, everyone & his dog will demand it be made optional, because it infringes on *their* vision of New Eden.
I understand the worries about hardware and graphics demands - my 2008 Acer laptop may also have a hard time with Incarna - but I won't pass judgment on that until I've seen the final product, which Duality should not be representative of..
Incursions ARE optional, don't go into one.
Bubbles ARE optional, don't go into 0.0
Pet peeves... idk.
But docking in stations is NOT optional. So at the very least CCP needs to make Incarna not a system raping expansion *can't do worse than deleting a boot.ini file* OR failing that, make walking in stations a choice so that if we just want to chat with our agent and peace out it doesn't take 5 minutes.
WOW...stop with all the wine and cheese, just dock in the god damned station or go find another space game.

It looks very good, but until we know exactly what we can do in the stations that is more interresting that outside, it looks pretty boring to me tbh.
Personally I like to have an option to turn Incarna off, the walking avatar annoyed me so much in STO I stopped playing the game. Hate to go through that with EVE too.

I'm very much looking forward to this - though, spending most of my time in W-space I seriously hope that you 'iterate' on this at some point to include Hangar/Accomodation facilities to hang out in, for a game of poker or two while we squander away our ill-gotten blueprints and pricey nano-ribbons.
On another note. I hope we have some control over the 'props' that show up. Kiddie cereal, and Quafe bottles all over the place is bad m'k. (I liked the trash bag, but boy is it huge....)
As for the Hangar view...? Like many people, I don't feel that it does enough to capture the sense of 'scale' - the Nightmare looked good, really good - but not EPIC. My alt's Charon should be beyond belief when I see it. Is there anything you can do between now and release to improve that? - Even having a large 'shuttle craft' pass by, which then passes by the ship, but gets smaller as it travels there might give the illusion of depth and scale that's needed. Many of our ships have spotlights on them, a passing craft could flash a big light that shrinks to tiny as it passes over the hull...
Something's 'needed'. In general though, I'm loving it.
Seeing as *****-ing is almost obligatory these days though - sack the artist who did the cereal, and re-instate them again to finish the walkway textures, seriously.

Originally by: CCP Guard Loading times on Duality are not at all representative of the finished product as we've stated before. Duality has been running a very early test version and we've done very little optimization yet.
In my case, you've got less than a month to increase performance of CQ by around 500% and make it work on Mac OS X - or alternately, make CQ optional. If you can't get that much more performance out of CQ on low settings with shadows off, shaders low, textures low, low quality character models, yadda yadda, I won't be able to play the game - not even for the purpose of logging in to change skills.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about Incarna. I posted earlier and forgot to throw in my vote for allowing the option to leave your ship, or to stay floating in the hanger spinning madly away. Unless there's some technical reason it can't be done, I don't see why the option shouldn't be implemented. And if it is technical, can we have the reasons addressed in a future Dev blog please? ~Gnosis~ |

All these negative comments make me very sad, you all sound so childish. Frankly I'm ashamed at thought that CCP will see all of this nonsense.
I for one wish to say thank you to CCP. Please don't assume that because a very vocal minority are so vehement in their displeasure that they represent us all.
Regarding performance: My rig is going on 4 years old this month. It's no powerhouse and running on Duality maxed out was no real chore for it.
Please continue to push Incarna forward, don't let the whining dishearten you guys.
Two friends of mine saw the latest video and the older ambulation one, along with dust 514 the other day and it looks like this might have finally swayed them to try.
