To be perfectly honest, IÆm here to buy time while we try to sort things out. No sense in lying about it so I'll call a spade a spade.
It's about core principles, not the content so much.
IT's a perfect storm that's come together, escalated by this decision to "wait out the storm".
CCP is in deep **** and they know it. They've put a lot of "dev" time into this expansion, and this reaction is not what they want to see, it's bad for company morale, it's bad for their teams who have worked so hard, and it's bad for their public image.
If I was the average CCP employee and saw this I'd be pretty demoralized that all the months of hard work has culminated in community shock because of a few decisions made in other departments that should really have had a seriously more realistic outlook and outline to execution.
It's bad for their bottom-line, no matter how anyone wants to excuse some people quitting as irrelevant, appearance is everything and "negative" growth looks bad on paper, period. CCP can't work on borrowed time. Shareholders want money, projects need money, and everything works together to bring them every dollar they need to get forward.
ON top of the internal morale issues their managers clearly have to fight back now, as clearly expressed by CCP Pann by saying it makes her sad, because every CCP employee that works the ground level does care, but people who are rolling out these changes are clearly disconnected not only from the EVE Community - but the MMO standards for RMT, the WORLD economy crisis, the very fact that people are starving for the price that they want to charge for a goddamned monocle.
Donate all the PLEXes from any Monocle sales thus far to a charity - and now you'll start to get some realization as to what kind of justice we want.
So, yes, this is a serious blow. They know this is a serious blow. Noone wants to wake up and have 140,000 page view thread with 3000+ posts raging on them. That's a lot of hate ladies and gentlemen.
But frankly, CCP, you deserve it. There's no amount of mis-communication here. Decisions were made on a timeline. Prices were set on a time-line. And wherever that disconnect happened, welcome to re-connect time.
CCP Pann, being here as long as you have been, what I do know is that you've seen other "executive teams" go by, and you have been the mouthpiece for quite a few of them. I'm sure you've seen them repeat the same mistakes over and over as responsibilities change hands, people have to learn the same mistakes over and over. I'm sure you made your decision to wait for the storm to pass with good experience.
But, as is becoming clear, you're not dealing with the typical 'gamer', 'consumer', 'community'. You have something special here for EVE. Knowing your consumer is rule #1 for business. Knowing your product is rule #2. This is one hell of a wake up call.

I share the concerns already voiced by many. More than that, I now see a significant risk to the future of this game and potentially CCP (as I dont believe they have any other source of income at this time).
I've previously indicated that the strength of this game was its community, and that community is now wounded. If this isn't dealt with shortly (it would be nice to see a coherent response from CCP), the community will disengage.
I'll close with the following quote from the SWG/NGE article at Massively: http://massively.joystiq.com/2008/06/26/a-star-wars-galaxies-history-lesson-from-launch-to-the-nge-5/
When the /quit storm began, it began with the most vocal and committed members of the community. In other words, the key influencers.

Ok, so I am still pouring over the mountain of info on the chaos today.
One thing I have heard that I would like someone to confirm for me if they would.
MT was reported to be nothing but vanity items, but I've heard that the MT store is going to sell specialized ammo, ships, and SKILL POINTS.
Is this true? ESPECIALLY concerning Skill points?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can confirm this. |

I'll be honest here.
I enjoyed CQ for what it is. The opportunity to see my character and be more then a face , or a picture.
Most of the complaints coming in about it are from people who don't like change, and hate the fact that they can no longer spin heir ships about.
Making it optional to appease these people would help, but more so for those that are working with multiple clients.
I have a rather up-to-do-date computer and I've monitored my CPU usage when only using two eve clients while docked. Never before have I seen that much of a jump.
For those that use two or three, or more clients at a time, simply disabling everything as a whole would not fix the main issue.
Secondly, the high prices in the NeX Store are rather ridiculous, but its something to be expected. Now what I really find a problem with is what you have to offer for the price. A pair of boots no one will see for effectively $15 US is ridiculous.
What I find that most people are complaining about the Incarna expansion as a whole is it lac of...addition. It doesn't FEEL like much of an expansion. Or perhaps the buildup was far to high. There was far too much hype. We expected so much more. However, this is partially on our heads, as we speculated up until the very last moment.
In the early concept days of CQ, there was concept art about the current CQ being a "Minmitar" variant.
THATS what I'd like to see. Varying CQ's either based on the station, or the player's race.

No, it's not. It's a waste of my time, which I could be spent gathering more feedback and talking with people making sure the player's perspective is being shared with people higher up the ladder, I'm wasting time with extremely childish antics that get no one anywhere.

Hi, everyone
As I see it, the chief complaint is regarding the high cost of goods in the Nobel Market.
Then you are blind, go get us someone else.
You have to admit that some people are vexed about the high cost of the monocle... but not because they would buy one at 3/4 the cost.
I think Pann might have mistyped (as she did with Nobel/Noble) and put that instead of NeX/Microtransaction. That's the chief concern atm, and of course there are the other more immediate ones and of course the longer tail concerns that many of you have mentioned here.
"That's the chief concern atm" No, it is not. And if that's your perception it continues to highlight the real problem(s).
You, and CCP as a whole, can have no credibility until you address this in significant detail: http://eve.beyondreality.se/NeXCQResponse.html "The actual problem is the lie."
There is a lot in that article leading up to, and supporting, that assertion in the summary. It all needs to be addressed.
And not just in this thread (it'll be needle in the haystack lost in this uber-mega-thread) but in a dedicated sticky post.
"the longer tail concerns" To give some benefit of the doubt, perhaps that phase indicates you do get it, but we get back to that lost in the haystack problem again. And due to my perceptions of how CCP understands and responds to feedback, perceptions created by CCP actions over the last couple of years, until I explicitly see that you get it, I'll assume that you don't.

My only issues with Incarna is that, with my computer, in order to dual box I have to turn it off and from doing so my ship hanger is replaced with a static image of a door with half the functionality that the hanger used to have .... are you serious !!!???
It also greatly ****ess me off that they have the audacity to attempt to squeeze more money out of us whilst providing little to 0 new game content or (more importantly) fixes / rebalance of existing content!!
For the love of god please fix the existing broken bug riddled stuff before creating more broken bug riddled crap!!!

We, the podpilots own EvE, not CCP.
If we leave in measurable numbers in a timefgrame that can be linked directly to bad management decisions made against the player community, then the owner and investor board will pull out to save its money ASAP.
So CCP, only dare to make bad decisions if you do not care.

Edited by: Shoko Konjo on 24/06/2011 18:35:50 Okay, why am I posting in this thread.
Often people talk about the "silent majority" that are on their side and I've decided to leave their ranks. I've played EVE Online for several years now (one of my inactive characters is over 7 years old, I.I.R.C.) and have several accounts that are active on and off as the mood strikes me.
I'm not going to claim to be passionate about EVE or an important member of the community, because, frankly, I'm not. Nevertheless, I DO play, and therefore PAY for EVE Online. Also, I am neither going to throw a hissy fit nor make loads of posts with this or any other characters. CCP can check who they are in the unlikely event it interests them (it shouldn't).
In the past few months/weeks I've seen changes which, at first, seemed crazy and against the spirit, if, regrettably, not my experience of EVE over the years. Never mind whether you like the direction EVE is taking, the ineptitude displayed by the way it has been handled is staggering. Frankly, it surpasses anything I have witnessed since joining. In P.R. terms alone it is a joke, and not a very funny one either.
The, often linked, document at the foot of my post expresses most of my feelings far better than I can, and has my full support.
To CCP: The direction EVE is taking is of no interest to me and will rapidly place it amongst the thousands of other games I don't play. If you are fine with that, I am too. This is your business and it is up to you how you run it. Good luck, it seems you need it.
