Originally by: sonofollo before each patch there are changes made to all sorts of things - CCP fiddles and prods at TQ running hotfixes and optimisations - these issues go 2 weeks before a big patch and 2 weeks after - given its 1 month out of every 6 (and then u get outside network factors like some twit at a major ISP rerouting traffic donw the wrong line or pulling the wrong plug esp nera xmas) then the whole internet goes kaput toa a dgree and this also affects eve.
As stated they are looking itno it aim for around 0200 for reboot everyone that needs bed goto bed the rest of us well we add lots of forum ideas
yup. noone would complain, just its not very nice to loose training time, when you usually try not to miss. -=-

Originally by: kieron I'm attempting to ascertain the reason for the change to the MotD. As of right now, I have not received any notification of server issues. Will continue to provide information as it becomes available.
Would seem to be miscommunication. The internet outage in a major British backbone router has been around for >24h.
The server may be in staggered login mode - several alliancemates are able to login. ---------------------------- T2 Destroyers: a proposal Requested Changes: An alphabet's worth |

Well, either the server's down (in which case how are people seeing countdowns or actually (allegedly) being online?) or it's a routing or firewall problem in Iceland Telecom or CCP's Internal LAN

It's not hard to design an application that handles errors.
And for god's sake why the hell did a db failure cascade the entire cluster. Thats the whole point of clusters. To stop node failures munting the availablity.
Proper testing and less fly by the seat of the pants coding is the answer. You can clearly see this is crap because the messages on the login box arent appearing in time.
Someones going. Crap its been 30 mins since we promised our 18k users the servers would be up. Maybe we should give them an excuse to keep them happy.
I would be happy knowing the servers were coming up at 1am instead of someone saying they'll be up at 11:30pm, oh no somethings broken... They'll be up at 12am... oh no something else has fallen over 1am... etc etc
Simple stuff.

For those who do work in IT related fields surely you must understand it's not merely a case of 'hire more staff' or 'buy more servers!'.
Somehow I get the impression you work in IT, and may I suggest not more staff or servers, better staff and servers instead?
Ok, so in addition to the frankly scary uber RAMSAN box and the new 64bit hardware they are already trailing.. what else should they be doing exactly???
I can't comment on the efficiency of CCP's staff, but I can imagine it's not a case of drafting new people in over night. The code base for Eve must be massive - and bringing someone new onto the coding team means traning, superivison etc. etc. which can only take away from the productivity of the programmers (initially anyway).

Coming back up when, almost sleep time, this second evening, if RMR wants too patch. they must not have this sort of problems. And I think personally all major patches always gave a week problem after they where deplyed. So just for once do it right. Postpone And give us a real patch not want with bugs. And get tranquility online. because. these problem keep coming over over and over again as the flow of people starts coming especially with this trail pack which allow people too play every 2 weeks free over and over again. First we see kwik then we see kwek and after that comes kwak.
How do you think we players feel that have a paying account. ***********************************************
