That, and someone has to manually cap the server, so it's impossible to NOT be aware of it.

It does not happen often. There is a good deal of spiteful posting in this thread, by pilots who are unable for some reason to deal with the situation without lashing out. CCP's words and actions have shown that they hate this kind of problem at least as much as we do. You will get to witness this shortly, as no doubt there will be an apology and an explanation of the event.
No one can promise there will not be further problems. Eve's unique status means it is an adventure in much more than game design.  Have a look at some of the Dev blogs and news articles on the main site for some idea of the challenges they (and therefore, we) face.

I love a good whine now and then but lets not act like this happens all the time.
I cannot even remember the last time it crashed like this.
PCs etc are not the most stable thigns in the world you may have noticed. My copy of CIV 4 has crashed a couple of times now - ohnoes where is the CIV forum so i can go whine about how my copy is unstable - get sid meir down here to refund me 1 evenings play against the full cost (1p?).
Get over it.

well on the other hand, this is specifically a whinage thread, so let's whine !
I lost the best part of my evening with these server problems, and had a skill set for one more hour - won't be able to connect untill this evening (if...), so that's one more time 24hours of skills lost. Bah it's not the first time and it's usually due to my carelessness anyway, so I don't really care, but it still deserves a small ranting post  done !
But aye, get over it - and to the devs, good luck with these bloody hamsters!

Might want to set that long skill training ASAP...
