Originally by: sonofollo well the recent problems have been ISP related ive spoken to my ISP (non eve websites were timing out left right and center) apparently there have been routing problems on the big ISPs of late esp in the UK and the US causing global internet timeouts and all sorts of traffic issues - one of the many worms as well as a spike in spam emails clogging up bandwidth
SO yeah its not just CCP not by a long shot
Huh.. This is news to me and its my job to know :).. unless of course your an easynet customer as their stuffs be broken for weeks :)

Whatever the research, buying and installation timeframe was for upgrading the entire server farm to 64bit blades..... halve it,
I'm not complaining it's a technological feat, what CCP are doing, but it doesnt take an expert to see that TQ is deteriorating fast.

oooh err a little disconection and people are up in arms..
yes it is happening every now and then and causing some very minor stress but hell it isnt the end of the world.
let them fix it like they always do and stop hassling the good folk, go do something important.. turn your underwear inside out for example.
and those of you asking for compensation stop being so pathetic this is now world of warcraft

Yeah my Ops guys love to try and blame SQL all the time. 99% of the time its the firmware on the SAN that caused the problem or some dev who had a rogue stored procedure that was locking tables left and right.

It would appear that the connectivity issues this evening are two fold and a combination of network issues outsite of the servers and a database issue as well. It would appear that the network outtage may also tie into the lack of notification mails being received.
We are attempting to resolve the issue with the database and will investigate the cause immediately. We apologize for the lost play time caused by the database issue.

Lets get this into perspective slightly.
Eve has about 80k subscribers right - so over 1 million in revenue every month. This is *WAY* enough to run a resilient service.
Somebody hasn't planned for the increase in traffic/users or they're having development issues. Neither of which is an excuse for binning 18k users at peak UK time. Lets think about traffic shaping/throttling - hello CCP what are you doing?

I'm so predicting another crash with 15k people logging in to see if they're fine or not from whatever they were doing before being thrown out...

Traffic shaping and/or throttling will do what? Create a screwed up game experience for 18k users. I'd rather just get disconnected than having to deal with a traffic shaper telling me "nuh uh, you're gonna be laggy for the rest of the evening because I needs to give everyone their fair share".
Network issues can't be fixed by CCP themselves, if it's got to do with their upstreams. The only thing they can do is yell and threaten with the ebil ebil lawyers. DB server taking a dump, sure, that is something they can fix, and I'm sure they'll get it fixed shortly.
And for everyone who's threatening to take their X amount of accounts, why talk? Just do it, and quitcher*****in.

one thing that will hack people of more than not being able to play is hearing bull about not our fault etc etc, have the balls to admit it.
ie= another contradictive motd to your post...looks like problem solved, comeing back up, what you fixed the internet, of course that wasnt your fault, outstanding!
