A friend of mine actually called Leve3 communications once because we all lost connection storming some big dragon in EQ. Needles to say she had no clue what he was on about.

Originally by: kieron We are attempting to determine the cause of today's network issues. At this time, reports of a major network outtage with long distance re-routes appear to be the cause. I have not received any notification e-mails that would signal a server issue.
For those that are asking for compensation for lost time, CCP is not responsible for connectivity issues between the client and the server. If there is a connectivity issue with your ISP or someone in the route to CCP other than our immediate ISP, that is an issue to take up with your ISP.
then why does eve say that its a database error?

It's ok when the servers do down for a 15+ million character, because he is most likely working on skills that are 7+ days to learn. All us newbies on the other hand are only working on skills that require a couple hours at most.
So who gets screwed in the end? The new players.
so in a time where the players should rally together, and hold hands round a campfire while we sing songs and wait for the electricity to come back on, you think it's time to beat the poor old nag some more with some wine? er...whine. stop it! it aint happening, so stop crying about it.
stupid idea anyway

At some point in time they have to say - so much, but no more. The servers / technology / client / or whatever will only allow so many concurrent connections and no matter what they say, the product is becoming oversold.
CCP should face reality and accept that they are not in a position to keep selling more and more accounts. Thats what is really frustrating. Look after your existing customers first, then get excess facility, then get more customers! Thats the order you do things.
I'm tired of hearing about new records being broken, whilst we all suffer these server problems. Wake up CCP! I dont care about how many more people have signed on, if everyone is paying for a product that is becoming unusable.

Jeez...!
i don't ***ing care if its santaclaws, if i pay for a product i exspect to get it, or some kind of compansation for the lost of time etc... or atleast something!
ishiii, you have obviously not experienced the "real world". Once you have moved out on your own, you will quickly find that you don't always get what you want and the world isn't perfect.
and the one thing you will definately learn is "CHIT HAPPENS !!" get over it. relax and go read a book or take the dog for a walk.
errr - Ace Dionysus - if this was a freebie Counterstrike server then yes, but I beg to differ , I work for a big blue IT company ( the biggest in the world actually ) & I can tell you that if you drop a customer server , whether it is SEIBEL, SAP, exchange, oracle , or EVE whatever - the sh1t hits the fan & the customer gets financial recompens - no question.
This is NOT a "oh well it's only a game" argument.
If there are possible upgrades for performance or the apps, then they should be fully load tested on the test/dev servers beforehand, not on the prod setup.
If the game has a maximum capacity of users that can safely use it, then it should be capped until it can be safely expanded.
I'm a software engineer and a unix techy, so I understand what must be frantically going on in the background - but there is little excuse for dropping a service to paying customers - full stop.

Blaming players for logging back in en masse is just stupid. What would you expect them to do? Form an orderly queue? That's what the proxy is for.
Right now, I see "Database failure resulted in cluster shutdown." Huh? Isn't there any fault tolerance in this system? How about delaying RMR until Easter and just fixing what we have now, which rocks -- when it works.

I don't know the mechanics of any server failure, but with such an outage - who can know what the side effects will be ?

If they need someone to negotiate a hosting contract with decent LOS guarantees, I'm available. And I'm willing to work for ISK and T2 mods!

It would appear that I can connect to the test server , even though it is full . If the test server & prod server are next to each other ( logically & physically ) then this indicates that it is not a network issue.
