Hello everyone. The alliance PVP championships will be held for the first time this christmas. This post is aimed at giving you more detailed info about the event, aswell as list the eligible alliances.
Tournament Rules
- Each alliance will select three of their best and brightest PVP pilots to compete on its behalf.
- The tournament format is single elimination.
- Each team will have one battleship pilot, one cruiser pilot and one frigate pilot.
- Pilots will bring their own ships/modules. No reimbursement will be made for lost items.
- Pod-killing another competitor on purpose will result in disqualification.
- Should one or more members of the team not show up for an event, the remaining team members can still compete.
- Matches will be held in a closed arena. Each alliance can select one spectator.
- Contestants should be ready and set up 30 minutes before their match starts. They will then be transferred to the tournament location.
- Each match lasts 10 minutes. If both team still have survivors, the team with the most people alive wins. If both teams have the same ammount of people alive, the ships alive whose modules are cheapest be declared winner. Extra time may be given by referee depending on the situation at hand. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals will get additional time.
- The match area will be a 100 km radius. If a team member goes outside that radius, his team will be disqualified. Teams will start 50 km away from each other.
Fitting Rules/Restrictions
- All ships are allowed, including tech 2 and faction ships.
- Any and all variants of target jammers, sensor dampeners and tracking disruptors are not allowed, this includes drones that might have these effects.
- As stated before, each team will have 3 pilots. The first pilot can select any battleship available in Eve, including empire and pirate faction ships. The second pilot does the same for cruisers and the third for frigates.
- Officer and faction modules are not allowed. Tech 2, however, are allowed.
- If a is player found using disallowed modules, his team will be disqualified.

What if my alliance does not wish to compete? The CEO of that allianceÆs executor corp must send an in-game mail to the character ôLeMondeö stating so.
Why isnÆt my alliance eligible? We chose to let only the 32 largest alliances (as of Dec. 22nd) compete in this tournament. In the future it is well possible that larger tournaments will be held.
What are the prizes? The prizes will be kept secret for now, but we promise not to disappoint.
How can I follow whatÆs going on? The DJÆs of Eve-radio will bring commentary on most (if not all) of the matches.

Edited by: Agent Kenshin on 22/12/2005 19:03:27 I feel i have to agree with Cab on this one. We are known through the EVE universe as the one of the best pvp forces. And yet we are not allowed to compete because you went through the alliance list and took only the biggest members. Weve taken on most of those alliances and came out on top. What is wrong with this.
Edit - Just because were not large enough. I cant even fathom it there are industrial alliances on that list.

Erm, we're not allowed to compete? Instead of picking alliances based on size, try picking them based on their function. Like, The Big Blue and Freelancer Alliance? Thats a slap in the face to small pvp alliances.

Deadspace = faction...
Anwyay, I agree that selecting on size only seems somewhat strange. I can tell you right now that the MC or Exuro Mortis have much more to add to such a trounamemnt then some of contenstants listed that don't even do PvP combat... _______________________________________________

Edited by: Seleene on 22/12/2005 19:15:28 Let me say this as politely as I know how:
SIZE MEANS EXACTLY NOTHING IN EVE.
Just brilliant freakin rules, gentlemen. No Exuro Mortis? No M.C.? Here's a better one - No CVA???
That's not a championship. It's an insult.
Screw it. My money is on Big Blue. Have fun, fellas.
EDIT - Then again, probably for the best. If Zajo got into this and won, too many people would have to deal with getting owned by a female pilots. -

Here's a tip:
Set a deadline. Allow people to request to leave AND JOIN the tournament. Once that's done, then come back here and say "Here are the participating alliances!"
No MC? My God. It's not even a tournament then. Or at least not one worth paying any attention to.

Edited by: Abbey Smallwood on 22/12/2005 19:28:06 How about cancelling the 4 smallest alliance slots, and having a mini-tournament to compete for those? I'm sure the small pvp alliances will be ok with that.
You wasted 4 seconds reading this sig and you'll never get those back. |

How about this:
1.) Announce the rules and have people SIGN UP for it!
2.) Why this battleship, cruiser, frigate nonsense? MAKE IT A CHALLANGE!! MAKE IT FUN!!
Hauler, Noob ship, Mining Barge.
That's the ships people should fly! -

Fixed.
As for the issues of MC, Exuro Mortis and possibly other small, yet powerful PVP alliances; I fully agree with you. Not letting you compete isn't really something we wanted to do, but if you think about it from our perspective, it's really the only way this can be done.
The problems we are facing here are various. Firstly we had to decide on the competition format, and single-elimination is the best since it takes the least ammount of time and work. Other formats would be double elimination or brackets. Both of those would be impossible to complete in the 3 days we intend to do this event. (information posted later).
Thirty two teams seemed like an ammount that we could handle without things getting out of hand.
The next question we had to face is how to pick those 32 alliances? Eve has about 100 alliances and I'm certain each and every one wouldn't mind having a go in this tournament. With only so many slots open, how do we pick who gets to compete and who doesn't?
Size was the only option we can actually go with. Randomly picking them makes no sense at all. Letting people sign up would result in everybody signing up and us having to favour some over others.
I hope you understand my point here, although I ask that you please debate what I am saying and we will do our best to meet your requests (if we can find something that works, we won't hesitate to go ahead with it).

Gotta say I think finding a way for MC, CVA and EM to compete really should be a priority.

Hmmm.... ASK?!
I think you are wrong. I think there are some people/alliances in EVE who will look at this and go, "Meh."
This is the only way it can be done? Okaaaaay.....
And I stand behind my earlier comment - if you're going to do this, there should be an Industrial phase or something. Give people something to really smack talk about. -

WinterBlink, make a comic about it
Originally by: LeMonde What if my alliance does not wish to compete? The CEO of that allianceÆs executor corp must send an in-game mail to the character ôLeMondeö stating so.
I shouldn't be the one to tell you this, and don't take it personally. However, the proper way of doing it is to have everyone who wish to participate mail LeMonde. I think you might find that more than one alliance will miss this event and not send an eve-mail.
---
Perhaps the developer team is not interested in having the core combatants in the game combat each other, but more interested in letting the more... industrial focused alliances have a chance to combat each other in an artificial way so that one of them could possibly have a chance to beat their chests? I should think that the victor will be found from G or from BoB, those being the most combat oriented among the nominated. However, a small squad fight with artificial rules such as these there is no telling. Perhaps even ASCN will bring out their jewels which will prove so much brighter than the avarage?
---
Now. I suspect you, the devs, will see red if anyone wishes to make a point and crash the party.

I've a couple of alternative options:
1. Alliances who don't wish to participate can nominate a replacement alliance.
2. Rather than scale the entrants by size, why not by Sovereignty such as claimed Systems.

If some alliances choose not to enter then we should be allowed to fill the slots and IMO you should have asked for alliances to enter not choose the top 32 alliances. I agree that without a CVA MC HF UK or various others entering it cant be a proper tournament :/
We would be proud to throw our pilots into the fray to make our mark on the eve universe and by restricting the tourney you dont get the best pilots in the tournament. this will detract from the Kudos the winner would get if they havent had the chance to kill the games best :/
