I also remember podding Lola back to empire space in some wierd bug near the Drugs Runs (unsure as to whether it counted as a podding or not though as she still appeared in empire in her ship).
To all people *****ing about eve, be glad it ain't beta 4. 1 bug meant u had to relog after every jump at 5 minutes a go, we had one region and skills did squat.

A couple days ago I was remembering with fondness back in beta when me and a couple corpmates would mine gneiss in a 0.4 system in a navitas, imicus and atron.

They didn't add auto-pilot until a ways into beta. In every beta the universe would get bigger (and you'd have to actually EXPLORE the universe to see what was there, since the map didn't work! That was actually really fun! They should have left it that way.) Once the universe got to around 30 systems I remember wondering what the hell they were thinking having 5,000 systems...
So simple was I. Anyone remember the Scrap Heap bug where items kept spawning in it forever and ever?

i remeber sitting in front of the map screen trying to plot my route by the show route option. having an a4 pad with system after system listed just so i could do those 67 jumps as there was no high ways.

"Next we'll have auto fight button, and auto mine buttons, do you want EVERYTHING done for you?"
Oh and it was activated by typing /autopilot on in local, didn't get a big yellow button for another patch or so!

Was in beta and Omega Corp under the name WindSpirit. Still just puttering around as a freelancer waiting for the game to arrive.
Won't be here much longer though. Starting a clan (Age of Judgement) with another in Dragon Empires (British Developer Codemasters). PvP, persistent player market with complex items, Automated mining! Clan controlled cities, Expanded beta soon. Choice to be in PvP or "civilian" mode but if you want to gain or keep a city you must earn your Dragon's favor by PvP activities. Clan gains tax money from all trades in its city to pay for PvP. Skill based characters with most skills gained from quests or killing (not macro friendly).

And yes... I remember people complaining about it too... ha! And to think people are now hoping for autopilot to be improved so that afterburners and mwarps are automatically turned on too.

Got in around the tail end of Beta 4 as well, but not exactly sure when that was. I seem to suffer from the same memory lapse that has befallen many of the other participants of EVE's Alpha / Beta phases.
The only fun bit I recalled about Beta was rushing to the IRC channel whenever a node crashed. And watching everyone replying 'BOOM' on the test channel.
One other thing, I tried looking for some old corp mates from the old Starfire Industries but I think Starfire's now a non-English speaking corp. I tried looking for others who might have used their old names but to no avail. If any of the players from the old Starfire are still around, please EVE-mail "Krafe". Rela's just a character name I used during beta and thought that it would be familar to them.

I got an invite to Beta 7 two weeks before launch. Didn't have time to take part very much because things went mad at work.
Didn't take part in Armagedon 'cause I figured there wouldn't be alot of point in playing retail if there was nothing new to experience.

I miss my bugged Probe from beta.
That baby had over 5000 cargo and could fly 3700 m/s stock!
It was great to have Indy cargo space while using multiple lasers and a couple of basic mining drones to get the ore I needed.

Last 2 weeks of Beta. Probe spacecraft in Egbinger mining the good old crok....watched RUS effectively camp the outside stations waiting for 31st Brigade members to poke their heads out during a beta war. Was one of the few BS's procurred by RUS at the time if my EVE-newbie mind at the time can recall.

That got ramped up to about 500 or so in the time between end of June and end of July, before a month's hiatus leading up to the Beta release at the end of August.
Alphas before 5 or 6 (don't remember the number from then) were open to Icelanders only - CCP had put an ad in a Rejkyavik (however that's spelled!) paper, I think, which attracted computer science students and gamers from over there, that would actually go to CCP HQ and test on-site.
Beta was when mass-mail-shots started, and that was right after 2002's ECTS, in the last couple days of August 2002.
The difference in the names comes from the fact that with Beta, the server hardware was what would come to be the actual Tranquility server cluster - I think until then it was running off servers in Iceland. I might mean Medusa -> Gemini instead of Alpha -> Beta, here - it wasn't clear.

I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

And I came like a month late but it was still completely empty when I first came on. I thought someone gave me the wrong server adress to play a trick on me while they were partying somewhere else, everyone was mean to me then
Oh, and there were also those two phases, like Ruby and emerald, though I think they were still medusa. I thought it would be part of a real constellation in the end.

I was on beta since stage 4 until the end. I just stopped playing after beta and waited for the fixes. Started playing and paying about month ago. Changes has happened and I belive things will get better

End of 5 here. Was mad about the transition break back then :). I had only a few days in 5 as far as i remember.
Edit: and sarkos, the time directly after the autopilot arriving was my most boring time in eve. I was so used to fly myself that i couldnt stand watching the autopilot doing the work at first

I played during the last couple of months of beta. I did not start playing again until just a few weeks ago. I bought the game for 19.99$, and am getting the first month for free. I might pay for another month and see how it goes.
I'm still trying to build a basic skill set together.
I've already blown my money on serveral different ship types. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do. I haven't joined a player corp yet.
I got one rifter blown to hell, bought a replacement.
I've also got a probe, a slasher, a breacher and a hoarder. All that in just a few weeks of play.
I'm not sure where I'm headed.

wo0t still here...beta was fun...i remeber when getting my first kestrel was a big deal/then the butterflies from getting me raven with max missle skills...now ive lost it , dont care and am corp mining to get all me mates in a bship..imnsho cruisers are the most fun to be had for fighting sploring :P
i remeber dr strange..is he still around he gave me my first big loan (thanks m8!!!!!!)i jsut wish i could get larei to play more...he was me muscle..and xenoptrix..with whom i had atorrid love affair rpg style......

Whoa, I have been here since Alpha 6 (Aug 2002), which was Medusa. I knew about Emerald, but I had no Idea there were seven phases even before that.
Hellmar, if you are planning on 5 Tech phases and Castor is Tech 2. That would make Shiva(3), Kali(4), Scorpio(5). So what is Capricorn, Hmmm?

Last 2.5 months of beta, whatever stage that was... played EVE nonstop about 18 hours a day during beta.. found and reported tons of bugs, like a good little tester..
I got a little frustrated/bored about 3 months into release and took a breather for a few months.. but now I'm back, for now at least.
Anyone remember the automine idea that people were pushing around the time autopilot came out? The idea was that since you could stay current on skills while not at the PC, why couldn't you stay current on cash too.. and basically have a robot pilot your ship and mine in protected space while you were away... some pple just can't have it easy enough.. haha.
I sure do miss some of the bugs I reported though.. oh well. Couple of my favorite bugs/exploits that are now history (Both of which I did "exploit" AND did report):
1) Remember when you could cancel warp just by doubleclicking? And at that time, NPC pirates would just drop target and ignore you as soon as "Warp Activated" appeared? And so you could enter warp, have them disengage and then doubleclick to cancel warp and get a free mining pass for that belt, being totally ignored by the NPCs? I miss that.. hehe.
2) Remember when you could get inside one ship, an industrial for instance, and open the cargo, then exit that ship and get in another ship floating in space, like a cruiser, but still leave the first cargo window open? And you could then warp to a belt, and the cargo window for the first ship would still stay open? And you could mine and transfer ore into that first ship's cargo from anywhere in the system? I really miss that bug too.. haha! Really worked great for extended excursions into systems with good ore/pirates but no stations... park the indy about 2000 km from the exit gate and go to town :)
3) Not really a bug, but remember when you could cancel a warp while you were at high speeds just by doubleclicking? So you could enter warp to get away from a PK, then exit warp somewhere in transit without having to drop out at the planet/gate/whatever? I miss that too... and I really think they should bring that one back.. :)
4) Do I even have to say anything other than Surgical Strike? rofl.

:P about 4 months before it went LIVE :D
best mem was after a patch they did a spell mistake with a , so a gun had 25X Damage mode insted of 2,5x :P.
Where doing insane damage :P like 15k a shot or something like that :P

Yeah I played a bit a few weeks before release.
Still a neat game. Took a long break from it for a while, but now I've been back for a few months, and it's a lot of fun.
